Pure-Air Sail Extensions is an optional reagent for crafted gear that gives +10% mounted ground speed and +run/unmounted speed stat.
The mounted speed effect only works in outdoor Shadowlands zones. It does not affect flying speed.
This mounted speed effect stacks with more pieces of gear that have this enhancement.
You can get a max of 310% mount speed with 12 pieces. Temporary 510% with Silver Shardhide Whistle (fun detected).
Alchemists can put this on a trinket slot for 13 pieces.
The effect does not stack with the guild perk Mount Up. If you have Mount Up, equipping one piece of gear with this enhance does not increase mounted speed. Equipping a second piece will then give +10% mount speed, etc.
It's wonky with druid forms.
You can craft this onto any blue Shadowlands crafted gear. Every ilevel gets +10% mounted speed. The +run/unmounted speed stat varies by ilevel.
To craft this reagent itself, engineers need Schematic: Pure-Air Sail Extensions which drops from Tahkwitz and Garudeon.
Blacksmiths, tailors, leatherworkers, jewelcrafters, and alchemists need to complete the quest starting from this random drop in Zereth Mortis to unlock the ability to craft this onto gear. High drop rate from mobs in Catalyst Gardens (the very south point of the zone).

This is broken in many interesting and complicated ways, from stacking to guild perks to druid forms. But the important thing is; it works in dungeons! You can craft this into an item level 262 piece for 70 speed and actually get some use out of it until you eventually have to replace that piece. It's hard to say exactly how many ilvls speed is worth but I feel it's probably the most underrated stat in the game so take it while you can!

the effect from this item no longer stacking with flying speed makes this item absolutely useless and another fun thing blizzard added to the game ruined for no reason.

I dont want to write this, because Blizz hating fun isnt something new and maybe they read this, but to clarify: The running speed itself works everywhere, not just in Shadowlands, meaning you can use this to create a speed run set for old content.

As of 11/18/2022, the speed increase on gear is 58 for non-jewelry pieces. It used to be 62. It's subtle, but it feels like a No Fun Allowed kinda nerf.

I highly doubt anyone is breaking current content with speed gear, since you're limited mostly to ilvl 233 pieces (265-272 is what drops from LFR), for reference. Anyway, figured I'd give a heads-up in case anyone else was curious. I think it's still fun, but I wish the numbers weren't reduced.

I can not get this to drop for me at all. About 50 kills between the two bosses. I have 100 engineering and all of the quests done in ZM. Do you need to be exalted for it to drop? Stuff like this is why I leave the game over and over. I don't understand why a crafting recipe needs to be a massive farm to get.
