Wowhead's Patch 7.1 Launch Guide: Return to Karazhan
Return to Karazhan, Suramar Campaign, New Pets and More
Return to Karazhan the week of October 25th in Patch 7.1! This new content patch will include Mythic Karazhan, the new Suramar Quest campaign, new Raiding with Leashes and Falcosaur pet content, quality-of-life changes for the player UI, PvP, and leveling abilities, a Blood of Sargeras trader, and more. Return to Karazhan is a dungeon available on Mythic difficulty and has 9 bosses.
Old and new Karazhan will be accessible at the same time. Return to Karazhan has a mix of familiar faces and new bosses, including three new Opera Encounters.
Some familiar parts of Karazhan return with a twist--the dancers in the banquet hall float in the air, the Mana Devourer trash is now a difficult boss since you're shrunk down to its size, the chess event is topsy-turvy. Some parts of Karazhan are even upside-down.
Karazhan has a new round of Violet Seals, starting with
Violet Seal of the Archmage
and ending with
Violet Seal of the Grand Magus
. This is a throwback to the
Violet Signet
from original Karazhan quests.
As you progress through the dungeon, you witness small cutscenes from Medivh's past--including the final interaction with his father, Aran, and Lothar and Llane watching over Medivh in a coma.
Karazhan features eight bosses with challenging trash, including a rotating Opera Event...and Nightbane as an additional secret boss. Learn how to progress through the instance with our

Players must get attuned to Karazhan before they can run it. The questline starts from Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran:
Edict of the God-King
: Defeat God-King Skovald in Halls of Valor on Mythic difficulty.
Unwanted Evidence
: Bring the
Fel Crystal Fragment
to Archmage Khadgar in Dalaran.
Uncovering Orders
: Recover the Fragment of Spite from Blackrook Hold (Mythic), the Fragment of Power from Violet Hold (Mythic), and the Fragment of Torment from Vault of the Wardens (Mythic).

Violet Hold
Loot from the first four bosses starts off at ilvl 855; loot from the last four bosses starts off at ilvl 860. Loot from the ninth boss starts at ilvl 875. All loot has a chance to proc a higher ilvl, up to a max of ilvl 895. If an item appears up to 10 ilvls above the base, it will be marked as Warforged in the tooltip. If an item procs +15 or higher, it wll be marked as Titanforged.
There are no weapon drops from Legion bosses as well; but relics drop instead which can be socketed into a weapon for an ilvl gain and specific trait boost. The item level boost provided by the relic scales up:
ilvl 855 relic provides a +45 ilvl boost to your artifact
ilvl 860 relic provides a +46 ilvl boost to your artifact
ilvl 875 relic provides a +51 ilvl boost to your artifact

New Quests in 7.1 include the Suramar Campaign, World Quests, and the Illidan Questline

The
Suramar story
continues in Patch 7.1 with a nine-week quest series culminating in the
Insurrection
achievement, which in turn is needed for the
Arcanist's Manasaber
mount.
Starting the Suramar campaign requires completion of the
Arcan'dor, Gift of the Ancient Magi
questline, which starts with
A Change of Seasons
. This questline is available at 20000/21000 Revered with the Nightfallen.
Arcanist's Manasaber
is a mount that is rewarded for completing
Insurrection
. An additional step may be needed,
<Hidden> Insurrection - Capper
, which will be obtainable when the Nighthold raid is open.
The
Lockdown
quest chain, concluding with
Visitor in Shal'Aran
is up for players for Week 1. The full quest campaign, including videos of each segment, is detailed in the

Several other improvements are coming to Suramar in 7.1: Arcway and Court of Stars Attunement is account-wide, and Ancient Mana nodes now
work like profession nodes
, meaning they are shared tap! They are also
blue on the minimap
to avoid confusion with herb, mining, and fishing nodes.
There are new World Quests related to Helya and the Helarjar. These can spawn all over the Broken Isles after completing
Helya's Conquest
and will award reputation with the faction specific to that zone, as well as the Valarjar. Examples:

Helarjar Landing: Grey Shoals
There are a number of World Quests added to Suramar, including
Lifelines
,
Cut the Cattitude
, and
Safe Keeping
. These grant 250 reputation, making them a step up from the existing Suramar quests which award less reputation.

For alts, you do not need to hit Friendly with the five factions to unlock World Quests; you simply need to be level 110.

Alcaz Island, home of the famed

, is receiving a revamp in Patch 7.1.

, long the terror of classic-era players after

, has returned revealing what he's been up to after all those years: a mechanical army!
To get to Alcaz Island, fly to northeastern Dustwallow Marsh in Kalimdor. Once you reach the island, you will be dismounted. Should you fight your way through this challenging island, there are a few rewards in store:
Big Red Raygun
for defeating the new-and-improved Dr. Weavil.
Machine Fluid
drops from the mobs on the isle and turns your Hunter pets or battle pets oily.
Drudge Fluid
drops from the mobs on the isle and turns your Hunter pets or battle pets drudge-colored.
Handful of Gizmos
is a new crafting reagent that will interact with mechanical pets in some form.
Hunters have access to a new series of pet looks to tame. For more detailed information, check out the

There are three mechanical spiders to tame,
Golden Arachnodrone
,
Copper Arachnodrone
,
Silver Arachnodrone
There is a green mechanical wolf,
Model GU-4RD-3R
, guarding the stairs to Dr. Weavil.
These pets are mechanical tames, so you can only tame them as a Gnome or Goblin by default, or via
Mecha-Bond Imprint Matrix

Talon's Vengeance
is a new PvP-themed faction coming sometime in Patch 7.1.
Muffinus has dropped some tweets
about this faction, but it remains shrouded in mystery on the PTR.
What we know about this elusive faction is:
Finishing the introductory sequence (
Talon's Vengeance Intro Complete
) will reward
Ivory Talon
. This PvP item has a similar effect to the
Censer of Eternal Agony
from Mists of Pandaria.
The description is: Heal 100% of maximum health and become an avenger of Aviana. While transformed, you are hostile to all players, and killing players grants Marks of Prey. Can only be used in falcosaur and PvP World Quest areas, and flags the user for PvP. (15 Min Cooldown)

). While completing the World Quest, kill a Matriarch, find the spawned orphaned hatchling, and feed it a specific type of food. Once you level the pet to 25, a new series of quests is in store, even taking you into dungeons and raids with your pet (such as
Teamwork Lesson: Xavius
)!

In Patch 7.1, the leveling ability flow has changed once again. Players have fewer abilities at very low levels, with important ones unlocked at level 20, 40, and 50. There is always something new to look forward to!
Using Rogues as an example, in Patch 7.1 you will start off with
Sinister Strike
as your combo-point generator at Level 1. If you stick with the Assassination spec, you will replace that ability with
Mutilate
at level 40.
As part of introducing important abilities at levels 20, 40, and 50, some abilities have reshuffled their levels:
Some examples using well-known abilities:
Nightblade
is now available at 20, down from 46,
Voidform
is now available at 20 up from 10,
Evocation
is now available at 20 down from 40.
Some abilities acquired at low levels take on additional complexity at higher levels with new Ability Ranks:
For example,
Fire Blast
is an instant-cast ability acquired at level 3. Rank 2, acquired at level 14, makes Fire Blast always crit. Rank 3, acquired at level 48, gives Fire Blast 2 charges. The end result with all three Ranks is unchanged from how the ability works on live servers, but for a player leveling, the benefits are spread out.

A number of UI improvements are coming in Patch 7.1. Notable ones include:
Players can hide belt at transmogrification NPCs.
Dungeon Journal has a new option to filter loot by slot.
Gear that is an ilvl upgrade has an arrow in your inventory.
Ancient Mana is blue, not yellow, on the minimap. The cursor is a gathering hand, not a cogwheel. It is also a shared tap!
The flight path map now shows what Loremaster quests in your quest log are in each zone. (In 7.0 the map only showed World Quests.)

The Action Camera has made its return in Patch 7.1! You will have to enable it every time you log on. This is so that people do not accidentally enable it by default and then experience motion sickness.
To enable the Action Camera, type: /console ActionCam

by northwest Azsuna is a free-for-all PvP area where you can also loot and turn in
Timeworn Artifact
for Honor. You can even turn into a Murloc with special abilities via
Gurglrgmrgl!

Bareback Brawl
in northern Stormheim requires you to kill players or subdue nearby animals; mounting these animals grants you a special action button.
Darkbrul Arena
in central Highmountain requires you to kill multiple
Stonefist Brawler
. Getting to this cave is a bit of a challenge--check the comments for info!
In 7.1 players do not have to choose between Prestige and grinding out Honor Talents again; the talents will remain as they prestige up and gain cosmetic rewards.
Artifact Power rewards have been increased in the patch.
The Honor reward for your first Skirmish, 2v2 Arena, 3v3 Arena, and Rated Battleground is twice that of subsequent victories.
Every Battleground or Rated Battleground victory will reward a piece of gear.
Each bracket of rated PvP (2v2, 3v3, Rated Battlegrounds) has a weekly quest that rewards items based on your best rating from the previous week.
An improved interface now shows how much Honor is rewarded for various activities in game.
