Upcoming Changes to Jewelcrafting in Shadowlands Patch 9.2

Jewelcrafting in Shadowlands 9.2 will see the following changes. Not all recipe sources are known at this time.

Progenium Ore - New reagent from Zereth Mortis Mining, which can be Prospected. There are no new gems.
Crafter's Mark IV and Crafter's Mark of the First Ones - new Optional Reagents to set minimum level of crafted gear to 60 and iLevel to 233 and 262 respectively. Similar to the Crafter's Mark of the Chained Isle, the creates an item that is Unique-Equipped, so only one piece with this Optional Reagent may be worn at any one time. Crafter's Mark IV will likely replace the Crafter's Mark of the Chained Isle, since it creates an item 3 levels higher that does not have the Unique-Equipped restriction. You will be able to purchase these recipes from Vilo, the Quartermaster for The Enlightened faction in Zereth Mortis with Friendly and Honored reputation respectively.
Devourer Essence Stone - Optional Reagent - Slaying enemies increases your highest secondary stat for a brief moment, stacking up to 10 times
Aealic Harmonizing Stone - Optional Reagent - Chance to harmonize sound, granting Primary stat when acquired.
Vestige of the Eternal - High-level crafting ingredient

Why is Jewelcrafting Useful in Shadowlands?

With the introduction of an Optional Reagent that can add sockets, there will be more need for high-end Jewels.

If the experience in BfA is any gauge, Rings will be in high demand, particularly early on, as Rings are not easy to get through drops or rewards.

Necklaces return to Shadowlands, as the Heart of Azeroth will no longer work in the land of the dead. Presumably, like Rings, they will also be difficult to acquire early on in the expansion.

With the introduction of gems that increase in power for every Shadowlands Jewel you have socketed, there will be more incentive for people not to ignore empty jewel sockets!

Jewelcrafting is looking interesting with the customization of crafting, especially for creating jewelry with exactly the stats you want. Due to the difficulty in aquiring raid drops with desired stat combos. And depending on if JC legendaries truly will be boe or bop. If the later, it might make Jewelcrafting muchly desired for a main.

Not sure who else may benefit from this information, but crafting the blue rings, and using Crafter's Mark to downshift them for lower level characters has a minimal benefit, 1 point of secondary stat increase, which means that overall the laestrite gear will require fewer gems to craft and upgrade than crafting the blue and reducing them. I ran the numbers thinking that it would be a bit more of the stat and could give an edge to new 50 toons, but unfortunately such is not the case.

All of the jewelry requires 2 of the given ore, so that evens out, and in the case of shifting laestrite up to 55 and blue down, it requires four raw gems to create laestrite and eight raw gems to create blue, so there is already a doubling of gem costs, then the Crafter's Mark costs the same, so WOW did a good job of preventing twink gear boosting. Also if using the Novice Crafter's Mark the blue items lose 4 points of secondary stats total over the base laestrite items.

Additionally; I have just noticed a disagreement between Wowhead data and retail live, in that only the deadly laestrite choker currently requires a single jewel doublet to craft. The other three laestrite chokers require two.

If you're trying to figure out how to learn the Shadowghast Ring and Necklace patterns pay a visit to the Runecarver in Torghast.

This comment on the LW guide pointed out that the Runecarver offers quests to unlock the recipes upon reaching 100 skill in the profession. Talk to it, talk to your trainer, and now you can learn the recipes for 25g a pop.

It is a misconception that the subtractive primary colors are red, blue and yellow. The optimal choice of primaries is actually cyan, magenta and yellow, as widely used by the printing industry.

The most widely used addictive primaries are also red, green and blue, as we of the digital world commonly know.

So this choice of red, blue and yellow for primary gem colors mildly annoys me.

im at skill 100 of jewelcrafting, but i can not learn Shadowghast Necklace and Shadowghast Ring. my professions book entry says it will be teached at skill 100 by Appraiser Au'vesk but he doesn't.

is it a current state of 1st week of SL, or is there some sort of other hidden required wall blocking me off?

I'm new to the profession and I was wondering if my Shadowlands Jewel crafting will level up while I'm in Stormwind. I feel like this is a lame question but just wondering if I need to go back to Bastion before I prospect.

When does prospecting stop raising your Jewelcrafting score? I seem to be stuck around 17-18, and I've been prospecting for awhile.

I may have overlooked this in the guide, but it would be helpful to mention that the stat shown in the jewel tooltips is the max (you get max at level 51+). The actual stat applied scales according to your level. BTW, from what I've seen this also applies to enchants.

You can find out how jewel stats scale by looking at the particular item page here on wowhead.com (there is a slider below the item image). From what little I've seen, if you are level 50 you get a reduced stat (the amount may vary by item, but for the lowest ilvl items it is appears to be +4). When you reach level 51, you get the max stat value.

This was very confusing when I first started enchanting and jewel crafting, since I always start professions as soon as possible (below level 51).

Unless i missed it the guide does not explain which item slots in Shadowlands can actually have a gem socket?
That rule changed from expansion to expansion and imho it should probably be stated for Shadowlands which item slots can have gems.

Do I need to have mining as my 1st or 2nd profession to level jewel crafting ?
The character I wanted to level JC with have Leatherworking as a first profession and I don't want to unlearn it

man, crafting professions are trash this expansion, so much so that I just repicked skinning for gold and engineering for QoL. Had leatherworking for a bit until I added up all that i'd need to craft a 235 item. Feck that, I'll just skin for silly money and buy the single items I need. Guardian AOE skinning + Loot-a-Rang / Jeeves / Gunshoes / Moll-E / PermaGlider / NitroBoosts / Wormhole Generators (actually 4 hearthstones in this expansion) / Gnomish Gravity Well FTW!
