Plugger drops the elusive Barman Shanker. IF you're a rogue, he's not too difficult to solo. Arm yourself with some shadow prot pots, stealth into the bar, buy some Beer and use it to lure the patrons near him back to where the Thorium Brotherhood NPC is. Once the NPCs are clear, if the bar isn't KOS, pickpocket plugger. Once you can attack him, wait till he pats to the side of the platform nearest the TB NPC and go to town.

Mind numbing poisons help.

To elaborate:

Grab some greater shadow prot pots and head down. Really regardless of gear (I did this at 58 in half greens) you should be able to take him down only chugging a single pot. If you're nervous, bring some major health pots, chug the shadow when you zone into the instance, so the cooldown is up for the regular pot.

Anyway, he is IMMUNE to mind numbing poison AND kick, as well as stuns and all that goodness. If you really want to poison it up, just put up an instant poison on your MH, anything else is really overkill (or useless.)

Buy four DI ales and go near the Thorium Brotherhood NPC and throw one in the corner, where his small crevace meets the rest of the bar. Do it again, then throw the remaining two ales a little further down, closer to the table, being careful not to be too close to plugger. Once all four cronies are down, the bar should still be neutral, plugger too.

As long as you're on the inside side of the table you shouldn't get other aggro, so no real need to wait for him to path. The focus of this fight is straight up DPS - open with a garrote and mash your SS/evis button, don't waste energy on kicks since they don't work. If you take heavy melee damage, you can time it well - he will only melee multiple times in a row once he lands a spell, so wait until you're done resisting shadowbolts and immolates and go to town with your evasions and GSes. Collect loots, reset instance, rinse and repeat.

It's nice to note, too, that even though his dagger doesn't like to drop all to often, the chestpiece isn't all that bad for a rogue.

If you have a level 60 rogue to help you kill plugger, this can be done as early as level 49.

I am level 49 with 5/5 MOD and Nightscape Boots (increase stealth level) and can stealth all the way to Plugger.

Mind you this is not an easy task and does require you to use two vanishes and 1 sprint.

Have the 60 rogue open the doors and unlock the gear. Your first chokepoint will be when you start down the short hall that has 4 dwarfs standing at the beginning and a roaming Fire elemental. Either you or the 60 distract the two dwarfs on the left, making them face the right, and slip by, being sure to hug the wall. You will be able to stand between the first 4 dwarfs and the next set of mobs that also has a Fire elemental in it. Wait for the fire elemental pat. If the 60 rogue did not use distract have him use distract on the Fire Elemental pat to slip past. If this goes sour just run further ahead and vanish. This will increase your stealth enough to slip past everything and stand on the stairs leading down to the right in the next room. The room you should be facing now is the one with the gnomes and Golems. If you want to play it really safe just wait for your vanish to finish it's cooldown, once it is ready watch the pats of the gnomes and stealth through the center straight ahead. Stop right before entering the next room and make a right, being sure to hug the wall. The next and last part you are coming upon has 4 fire elementals. You will not be able to slip past these without a sprint and vanish so make sure both of those are not on cooldown. Now just start stealthing through, as soon as you are unstealthed sprint. Once you reach the room with all the neutral people just vanish. You are now in the room with Plugger. Congrats and good luck with our Barman Shanker. Follow the previous instructions on killing Plugger posted by the previous guys. They work.

Pickpocketing Plugger will cause him and the rest of the room to become aggroable. Killing him will cause the rest of the room to become aggroable also.

Quick question, soloed Plugger 3 times already but all times he has only dropped a random green. Is there a reason why this is, or just a run of bad luck?

To the Warriors (and other classes) who want to farm this guy for the Engineering schematic; simply use an offensive ability/spell against him and he will become hostile.

Warriors can Charge, accidentally hitting '1' is how I found out!

Good luck, dropped on the first kill for me.
Possibly some potential money to be made by farming this schematic.

If you want to take this guy out in a group i reccomend clearing out the entire bar.
Attacking NPC's in the bar will olny agro a few NPC's close by and nobody else. Using this method you can steadly and safely (Although sometimes slowly) work your way to plugger.

Take note that as soon as you engage Plugger the ENTIRE bar becomes hostile.

I do recomend not just clearing the top of the bar because If you wipe later on (A distint possiblily considering the room before EMP) you'll need to clear them to get back anyway.

Most groups prefer to just skip this guy anyhow but if not I recomend a full bar clear.

If you have the Shadowforge Key, a 70 can sneak through to the East Garrison, unlock the doors, (watch for pats, if you're quick you won't have to kill a thing) cross the hall to the West Garrison, kill the Fireguard pat, the 4xAnvilrage pack (pray you don't get 4 Marshals), and the Fireguard/2xAnvilrage pack (rogues can probably skip all this), sneak your way through the Manufactory, kill the 4 Fireguards guarding the bar door, walk up to the barkeep, blow him away (the only immediate aggro should be the 4 guys chilling right by him, everyone else in the bar should stay put and turn red), loot up.

As for your getaway, throw on a Parachute Cloak (or Slowfall), take a leap of faith off the upper level of the bar (with a little care and luck you can fly right past every angry mob), backtrack to the hallway between the Garrisons, Parachute/Slowfall out the window onto the Dark Iron Highway, (sure, you could just backtrack the entire path you took getting in but where's the fun in that?) book it to the front door, you're done. Reset instance if need be. Or just remove your gear and Leeroy yourself to death and ghost back.

If you're not an engineer and/or mage, your getaway is either (a) Hearthstone or (b) hilarious.

That's as quickly as I found I could trim it down (as a 70 SL/SL lock). Other classes may have other tricks up their sleeve. I was hunting for the XL Cables recipe, dropped on my 5th run. Happy hunting!

well, as a 69 gnome prot warrior I only had to kill the pack of 4 just after the tunnel you open with shadowforge lock. I actually hit the instance limit trying to farm the cables recipe...60g probably isn't an unreasonable price since this is a serious pain(but screw those guys selling it for that.)

As of 2.3 Plugger is immune to any type of stun (cheap shot or kidney shot) or interruption (kick).

How do I get in this bar to kill him? The doors locked, and the only way to get the key is to pickpocket him, but hes inside..

and im not a rogue, so is there any way I can kill him? I want the schematic.

ok if you are lookin for the schem and dont have keys... make large seaforium charges.. it will unlock the doors and switch to open that opens the door for you... i did that and snuck by most of the mobs and then killed him easily as a 70 mm hunter... dropped schematic on my first and only run... good luck to you all!

As of patch 2.4.3, this NPC now sells level 55, 60, and 65 food, water, and booze. The selections are unique to BRD and reflect the themes of the instance: Pickled Egg, Rock-Salted Pretzel, Blackrock Spring Water, Blackrock Mineral Water, Blackrock Fortified Water, Plugger's Blackrock Ale, and the Sulfuron Slammer.

I just served him his last beer last night in a group and there are a couple things that I would like to add.

First off pulling the NPCs around him with beer is a great strategy, it makes this fight go so much smoother, and when you've got a five-man team working this part Spazzring himself is no real huge challenge.

Where most groups find the tricky point is surviving the onslaught of the remaining bar, and I've got a couple tips for this one.

If someone in the group has the quest to kill Ribbly (not sure if you can only kill him with the quest or not, if someone could confirm or deny that would be great), then I'd strongly recommend doing Hurley first, Ribbly second, and then moving upstairs to get Spazzring. The only reason that I suggest doing this is because after killing Ribbly a small patrol of elite dwarves followed by one fire elemental will spawn at the exit doorway. On the way up the stairs you can kill these guys while the bar is still "neutral", and the nice thing about this fight (and also something to watch for) is the fact that this spawn group will pull the small group of dwarves who were also neutral and drinking next to the door

THIS DOES NOT TURN THE ENTIRE BAR HOWEVER

That's an important note to me only because after you kill Spazz if you're planning on continuing on in the dungeon getting through the exit can be a bit of a pain because ou end up getting swarmed by that little elite group, the door guards, plus the remaining patrons of the bar (doesn't always happen with proper pulls, but it's a possibility and do you really want to risk a wipe at that point in the dungeon?)

Using this method after you kill Spazz you will only have to deal with the trash mobs and Phalanx, rather than trash mobs, elite dwarves (approx. 7-10), a fire elemental, and Phalanx.

It's nothing overly necessary, but for those of you five-manning this I'd strongly reccomend it.

This comment is correct, I was panicking over the fact that "the entire bar goes aggro on you when you attack" posts since I went there at lvl 58 alone with a priest also lvl 58 so if they all attacked we'd be in trouble, but the fact is they do go red but they don't come at you, just the 4 guys around spazz, if you're going just for the schematics (or another of his drops) get in there, go in the corner, attack him (he doesn't struggle all that much and the other 4 adds aren't too painful if you have some sort of healing) and after you kill them just hearthstone out. If you're going for the entire instance and your team is not too strong you might want to leave this for last to save the pain of fighting 30+ mobs, of course that if your party is good it's a fun fight ^^

As a 55 rogue, I managed to solo Plugger plus 2-3 of the barmates using a major health pot and blowing all of my cooldowns. My group refused to kill him and had taken all of the mugs, so I had to pick up the ones off the table. 3 and he aggros, I vanished and pulled two of the closest bar guys with the mugs, leaving him with 3. Aggroing him sets the entire bar to red, but I figured what the hell and went at him. Managed to loot and get the chest just before I died to one last caster bar patron.

For those who are wondering, if you're not a rogue and can't Pick Pocket him, you can target him and use an offensive ability to start attacking him. I usually right-click things to attack, and since right-clicking on him opens his vendor window, I was confused for a long time about how to kill him. :-/

You can also get him to go hostile if you keep messing with the roast pig on the table. It's called "Grim Guzzler Boar". All you really have to do is activate it, but don't pick it up.

Do this over and over ( I think 6 times should do it) and he will turn hostile.

It also work with the Dark Iron Ale on the table, too.

If you are at least a level 70 mage doing this, you can use Spellsteal to argo Plugger

Edit: You can also right slick on the mugs near Plugger and he will get mad. You have to do this twice.

if you eat the boar thats on the table the first time he warns you , 2nd time he becomes unfriendly and doesn't automaticly aggro until you get near him as level 80 , or if your low then instant aggro im assuming , hope this helps for lower levels farming this place.

The easiest way to get there is to group with someone with the Direbrew Remote from the brewfest boss. When u get there u only have to go to the bar, up the stairs and kill the guy, done in 30 seconds.

I was disguised as a Dark Iron dwarf by the strange ale the brewer gave me, infiltrating... I entered the Grim Guzzler, planning on getting some information by talking to the dwarves. I soon found out that these dwarves rejected anyone sober. With a sigh, I absentmindedly grabbed a drink on the nearby table. The gnome named Plugger mumbled something. At least, it sounded like mumbling. I took another glass after finishing my first. Again, Plugger mumbled something. By now I was drunk, but I was compelled to have a third drink. Plugger yelled, and I snapped to attention. I felt a change in the way everyone looked at me, a shift in the attitude. Suddenly, everyone in the room besides one or two dwarves attacked me. By some incredible stroke of luck, I survived. I immediately fled Blackrock for fear of discovery. ( In afterthought, I was probably already discovered... ) Don't be like me and nearly get yourself killed.

Incase you can't tell from the above, taking ANY combination of 3 items from the tables will make nearly everything in the Grim Guzzler hostile. Beware.

Took him out at lvl 54 and was always close. The gear is the hardest part for the rogue finding out where not to agro the other mobs. For that i went up the stairs watch for the patrol. Look at the stone that is long and has something that looks like a ) shape i found after about 10 times of agro. After that just keep on trucking. Just follow what <doublediamond410> said. I also pulled the other mobs close to the The Thorium Brotherhood dwarf. It takes a little time but after a few vanishes it will be you and Plugger. Have fun and have health pots. FYI (took me 12 times tell he drop the chest) <unlucky rogue>

The gear is actually very simple.

Stealth past the fire elemental patrol and the two packs of mobs nearest the door. Infront of you is the gear, a pair of mobs to the left and three to the right.

If you are a low level sap the mob furthest right of the left couple.
Stand as far right and back of the gear as possible with it still being usable.
DISTRACT the three mobs infront by the window. You can stand there and use the gear unstealthed where you would normally agro.

TLDR: If you are struggling with agro make better use of distract :)

You no longer need the Shadowforge Key to open the gates to get to the Grim Guzzler. Blizzard deemed the quest to get it as 'obsolete'.

just in case nobody has mentioned it, his reaction up top says he's neutral to allies and hostile to horde, this is untrue. he's neutral to everyone unless you start the bar fight, then he's hostile to everyone.
but note, you CAN start the barfight downstairs, and not aggro the ones upstairs as long as you don't get too close.

Confirmed he still sells the Leatherworking pattern as of 5.2, though you may have to wait a bit for it to appear in his vendor window as it is a limited supply item. I had a 40 minute wait before it appeared for sale. Use your or a friend's Direbrew Remote, and hang out at the bar until it spawns.

As of 5.3 Plugger still sells the leatherworking pattern. I used my Direbrew Remote and it spawned 17 minutes after I arrived. If you don't buy out the Dark Iron Ale Mug it will be on second page of his inventory window.

If you want all the black dragonscale patterns:

Pattern: Black Dragonscale Shoulders Drops by Anvilrage Marshal. On average 7 per run, giving you approxematly 10% droprate per run. Drops for anyone.

Black Dragonscale Leggings Drops by Anvilrage Captain in the very last room of the instance. You can easily get there with the gnomish transport at the entrance but if you are farming for the shoulders at the same time it's faster to just keep on going. Drops for anyone.

Pattern: Black Dragonscale Breastplate Is sold by the gnome, Plugger Spazzring, in the bar. You can't get there by using the transport since it takes you passed the area. It sometimes takes several hours for it to spawn with the vendor, just hang around until it does. To keep going after just buy 6 black rock beers for the guy with the quest. Can be bought by anyone.

Pattern: Black Dragonscale Boots Is sold by the dwarf vendor (Lokhtos Darkbargainer) in the bar. You need to be revered to buy it and since it's bop the leatherworker have to do it themselves. To get revered you do a bunch of questchains in searing gorge that finally opens up a repeatable quest in thorium point where you can turn in dark iron recidue. 100 residue gives 1500 rep (more with perks ofcourse). Anyone can farm the residue for the leatherworker to get the rep up.

When you are done with this you can do a run in Blackwing Lair with a skinner to get a bunch of Black Dragonscale and three each of Fiery Core and Lava Core. After that you do Upper Blackrock Spire until you have 83 scales. At that point you should have enough Rugged leather and hide as well.

To make the cured hide the leatherworker needs a Salt Shaker made by an engineer and Deeprock Salt.

In total you need:
83 Black Dragonscale
70 Rugged Leather
3 Cured Rugged Hide
3 Fiery Core
3 Lava Core
7 Rune Thread

For those of you who don't know, or you've played so long since you've been here you don't remember, Blackrock Depths is located in the bottom of Blackrock Mountain. It's the doorway to the right located next to the NPC you talk to to be transported to the Molten Core.

Once you get into the east garrison and you see the big cog wheel with an anvil on it. click on the thing under it. it will close the gates that are open at the very end of the east garrison (since they are open you cant walk across to the west garrison).

I sat here for an hour trying to find out how to get to plugger and all i had to do was click that thing i passed 15 times.
