Saw it only once during my leveling (on beta), in Biel'aran Ridge (Vashj'ir) mount Reigns of Poseidus dropped off of it on 1st attempt. It has 55780 hp and is easily killable.

Beil'aran Ridge, 119g and change. Had no idea there had been a mount attached in Beta, but the gold was a pleasant surprise--a blue level item of appropriate level probably wouldn't auction for that much!

Fresh 85 shadow priest. Any ranged class, or melee class with healing, should be able to solo it at 80 handily.

Just picked this mob off myself, 122g52s89c dropped off it and nothing else for my warlock while doing a spot of herbing in the area.

Really would have been great if there was a potential mount chance to it, definitely one of the quirkier models to have if it was available.

I happened across this rare spawn by chance when traveling through Vashj'ir on my Hunter. He dropped about 98 gold. I had heard he used to drop a mount on the beta, but it seemed Blizzard decided to not implement it.

Now I find out they're putting it back in the game! I'm really disappointed. I wish the mount had been in to begin with so I could've gotten it the first time I killed him.

Currently with the release of 4.1 , there is a 100% chance that the mount will drop. The mount is BoE which is something we haven't seen them do before. Expect this to fetch a really high bid if you decide to sell it. The mount gives +280% speed in Vash'jir and 108% in water elsewhere (same as turtle).

TLPD, Aeonaxx, getting the lucky camel figurine in Uldum, all incredibly rare. Now we have a BOE mount drop, I'd be surprised if the respawn mechanics of this NPC remain the same. Just a speculation but it's reasonable if respawn timer becomes much much longer after 4.1.

I don't know what to say. I logged off at a spawn point before the patch, came home from work and waited for the servers to get up and camped. Raid was canceled so I literally spent the entire day underwater while doing the occasional ZG/ZA and taking breaks for making food and stretching etc. I have contact with a couple of friends and guys on the Alliance side and no one has seen a thing. I've camped and gotten both TLPD and Aeonaxx so I'm a pretty patient guy.

It's very possible that Poseidus' spawnrate is bugged, at least in the U.S. There are hotfixes almost every day so I wouldn't be shocked if we see "Certain rare spawns have not been spawning. That has been fixed. Enjoy your hunting" or some response like that. Then the mass camping (Especially those who never even camped till then) will begin. I hope I'm wrong but something seems very wrong here with no one reporting any kills.

More likely it has a 24+ hour timer before it can spawn, much like Doomwalker or Doom Lord Kazzak. And keep in mind, since the patch went live the servers have been reset at least once each day.

Go to wow armory and type in Blauvelt's Family Crest or any other world 85 boe epic drop, the list of dropees contains 5 world bosses + now Poseidus, I sense a spawn timer on par with the world rares, going to be a long camp if so ;-)) Might be wrong but seems a bit odd that he's listed there with the world rares.

It's a site that surveys auction house listings every hour or so across a hundred or so servers, both Horde and Alliance sides.

As of this posting, the Reins have not been sighted in any auction house in the past week or so.

Decided to open a ticket after not seing any sign of Poseidus or anyone report killing it lately and talked to a GM today.

He said that server restarts MAY afect the spawn timer of rare mobs but he couldnt give me anymore information cuz they consider it internal info. Hes going to open a report about it and ask quality department to run some tests.

This might be the reason of the ridiculous long spawn timer.

The person who said the reins linked might have been me... I just realized today that I've been doing reins linking wrong. Apparently, now you have to actually link yourself the item to see if it's cached... last time I tried reins linking (which was during WotLK), the only thing that mattered was whether or not you got the "Retrieving information..." message.

When I tried linking the Reins of Poseidus, it did display mount information, which led me to think it "linked". But when I tried inserting it in a chat line, the link did not show up properly, "Reins of Poseidus" was just written in plain text.

When was this changed ?... Anyway, I guess that's off-topic so it's going to get rated down, but if the person you were thinking about was me I just wanted to apologize.

The linking works on a week by week basis so I doubt that. Also, the mount only dropped during beta and never made it to live.

Whoever is just logging in to down rate everyone needs to stop, there's a lot of good information and theories being discussed here that are being hidden and/or deleted. Regardless of who's right, all the compiled information will help piece together this puzzle when we finally do start seeing him.

If you have a legitimate concern regarding the info posted or have your own ideas, then by all means post them. Maybe you've thought of something someone else hasn't.

Because Poseidus doesn't have a loot table. He only dropped gold. We've also confirmed that the seahorse he was supposed to drop in Beta is the quest reward you get early in the zone. You can link the spell/mount and it will say that you already know it.

As far as the linking goes, that largely depended on if Blizzard cleared the server cache, which isn't always done every week. When you link an item in game, if it isn't cached in your client side cache, it requests the information from the server. If the server hasn't seen the item, it won't return any information, meaning that that item has not dropped since the last full reset. Hope that helps

I got 35 hours into camping all 5 nodes before I decided to wait until Blizzard stops resetting the servers daily. With the assumption that he is working correctly, that's really the last remaining thing in common between the millions of players across the world and why no one has seen him. Call it my own hunch, but as long as Blizzard continues resetting the servers each day for hot fixes, I don't think you're going to see this guy.

the funny thing is someone posted a screenie of a GM convo right after patch that clearly stated his rarity has been improved and he is working as usual but poster got flamed and post got purged. Proof is in the pudding is it not?

Apparently some spawns on EU servers - I don't have a list of what servers but two people were bragging on the EU wow forums and had screenshots.

Not everyone has wowhead client so even if wowhead client shows no current loots it doesn't mean it hasn't been looted. I got the new raptor from ZG a good day before the first one showed up on here, now seven people in my guild has one yet that is not reflected on loot table on wowhead as all of those people do not have the addon either. There is no way for anyone other then Blizzard to know what has spawned where.

Reins of Poseidus is linkable via the script on EU-Zirkel des Cenarius, so the rare mob is definitely there.

This is getting to be quite frustrating :( Are there still no Poseidus sightings or reins on the AH since the release of 4.1? I have been camping this spawn since the servers went live, I have even tried scouring every inch of Vash'jir just in case there is a new spawn point and still, nada. I put in a ticket and received a GM reply yesterday telling me that Poseidus is working as intended and is just a very rare spawn. I wish somebody at least knew something. This has to be the worst rare spawn timer that I have seen implemented in WoW.

Maybe theres an unimpressing placeholder-mob (like bloodseeker at Aeonaxx). No one normally takes care of him.
No one ever kills him = no respawn = no Poseidus

If that is true were searching for a unique mob(with unique ID) that lingers around at one of poseidus spawnpoints.

Patch Notes for Patch 4.1.0 (when loot was improved)

Poseidus has a lengthy spawn timer similar to the rare world bosses. See patch note:

Loot from the creatures Garr, Julak-Doom, Mobus, Akma'Hat, Xariona, and Poseidus has been adjusted to be commensurate to their rarity and invested effort.

I'm not saying if you kill a world boss Poseidus will spawn, what I'm saying is his timer is just as long now and most likely if you kill a world boss it improves the chances of Poseidus spawning. RNG is still RNG

I wrote this right after patch and got flamed because most thought Blizz had broken this NPC since before the patch Poseidus spawned daily. I still believe his spawn timer is the same as the lengthy timers of the other rares listed in the patch note. Garr, Julak-Doom, Mobus, Akma'Hat & Xariona do not guarantee a weekly spawn, instead it is random which one does spawn, some weeks you can get the same mob spawning. I strongly believe Poseidus has joined these mob spawners and now shares the same type of long spawn timer. I have GM mails confirming he is working as intended and one that cryptically hinted that his spawn is incredible lengthy that's why his loot has improved.

Now I know some of you think that the only reason why Poseidus was added in the above patch note is because his loot was upgraded and that's it, but I think if that was the case then there would have been a separate comment about his loot, instead Blizz has listed him here with the other super rares which to me at least is a sign that something about him is the same as these mobs, since he is not a world boss that would lend me to believe that it's his spawner that has changed.

With regards to placeholders, and this is speculative, I think every time one of the five (Garr, Julak-Doom, Mobus, Akma'Hat & Xariona) are killed it improves the chance of Poseidus spawning next. Of course it's going to be a while before we know this but in the case of both Aeonaxx and TLPD those placeholders were spawning on day one and I've yet to see any other unique mob in the area.

Aeonaxx for example is extremely rare too BUT he was killed several times in the first days after cata-release. But this one was not...something must be different here.
I do not believe in any relation between Poseidus and the worldbosses like Xariona. Why he should ? Hes extremely rare and im convinced this is because another reason. I think it has to work in a similar way as at TL and Aeonaxx, but no one knows....

It's possible it was given its own Bloodseeker or Vyragosa placeholder mob in 4.1. and we don't know about it.

What we already know or can guess:

1) The spawn timer pre 4.1 was a standard 6-24 respawn timer. He was killed several times a day sometimes and only dropped gold.

2) Now that he drop's a mount, Blizzard obviously changed his spawn timer so people won't get a TPLD or Aeonaxx like mount a potential several times a day. The fact that no one has seen him pretty much confirms this.

3) Since the mount is confirmed to be BoE by GM's, some people will camp over and over and over to sell for gold.

4) So far has NOT spawned is the US servers.

I gave up camping for now. I've spent almost the entire day underwater on the day of the patch like so many others and got nothing. I've camped and gotten both TLPD and the Aeonaxx mount because of the mechanics were known. For all we know there could be a level 20 Seashell mob we have to kill to trigger a potential Poseidus spawn.

Until then, I'm back to digging in the sand for a dumb camel statue that won't break into dust.

Much like a lot of you, I have had both zones camped since the patch and seen nothing of our friend Poseidus. I have, however, been regularly killing other rares and elites in both zones in the hope that it somehow triggers a spawn. Until now I have had no such luck but thought that I might share my activity with you in the hope that it adds some value to arguments above.

With a view to tracking down this unique NPC that we are theorising around I have also been scouring the sea bed in search of a suitable mob. Aside from the other rares/elites I did find one such npc that, AFAIK, is unique: the Sea Snake that kicks around near Burgy...

Been killing this whenever it is up, along with Burgy, Shok, Lady La-La, Captain and still nothing though. Since the patch I have killed all the rares and elites approximately 6 times each. I wish I'd had the foresight to record times but on reflection I'm not sure that their respective spawn times were following any sort of pattern; at least not a pattern that has materialised after 5-6 days. Kill times were seemingly random for individual mobs but at least one every 24 hours. It's entirely possible I missed a spawn of burgy as a guildy has the hat but I have otherwise been pretty lonely down here all week in both zones.

Reins are not linking in chat. The Venture Co. Alliance.

Maybe that mob was implemented with 4.1 too. I also searched above the surface, for a gull or another bird spawning on that place ^^, but found nothing. Next step im gonna search with my hunter and use "track hidden" at all spawnpoints. We'll "see"....^^

1. STOP TRUSTING LINKING! This has been proved to not working on the best PSD/TLPD out there! And no, we did not do it the wrong way.

2. It probably hasn't spawned for some reason or another(something to do with shut downs or his respawn timer is long - but maybe he didn't make it to live, just like the new cooking dailies?
Blizzard make mistakes(a lot of them), so even if this would be yet another one, they probably wont mention it when they fix it.

People saying it got killed on a certain realm: is it hard to provide a screenshot of the player on the mount? Or atleast give us the name of the player that killed it?

And no; there's no way you can "defend" linking. It's bull!@#$. Period.

Yes - maybe the reins wont link, then you kill x rare that drops x mount, and then the link starts working. But after a while the linking may stop working again!
There have also been people camping all spawn points of e.i PSD when the link all of a sudden starts working - even though these people have used ways to stay logged in while sleeping(so if someone else got the rare they would still have cached it in NPCScan).
Yes, someone that got it earlier when they didnt "mass-camp" and didnt learn it, maybe logged right at that moment so it started linking. And either way there's the scenario of the link stop working after he's been killed(without any server restart).

Trust it if you want, but I would advice you not to.

He seemed to be showing up on EU servers, so I had a fly-by every now and then with my parked alt. I killed Shok'Sharak this morning, and just now did a casual fly-by. I saw Burgy, dead, and lost pretty much all hope, so the adrenaline rush, when npcscan found him in the Glimmerfeep Gorge, was comparable to a TLPD/Aeonaxx sighting.

Time: 4:30pm
Date: 03.05.2011
Spot: 44.50, Glimmerdeep Gorge, Shimmering Expanse

Last known kills: Shok'Sharak same day at 10.24am (my kill). Burgy was dead at 4:30 already when I targetted him just before I found Poseidus. Ghostcrawler was tamed later that evening at 10:14pm.

Targettable from the air, although he was very deep down. Npcscan found him.

Got it around the same time as the poster above but on Kul Tiras (EU).
Dropped some gold, a epic shield Blockade's Lost Shield and a normal JC design.

Camped it the first two days after patch but gave up when I read on here that it might be on that very rare spawn timer. Kept my miner and herbalist in the area so Ive been gathering an hour or two every night while keeping an eye out for that horsie.

Bit sad that its slower than the normal sea horse though. Its just 270% in Vashj'ir compared to 370%. In other areas its 100% so I hope my engineer can make some kind of turbo boost water jet system to get it moving. =)

Obviously EU servers are getting some action with this NPC and the US is not (at least i've seen nothing here on wowhead or anywhere else).

Posting that you know someone killed him on your server without any proof means absolutely nothing and isn't helping anyone. If you know of a kill on a US server, please: post a SS of the NPC (dead or alive), someone on the mount, or the reins for sale on the AH. Be sure that the time and date on your mini-map are visible in the SS so we can confirm they are from a live server and not PTR.

Time, date, name of your server are all mandatory facts you should include in your posts, character name and coords are really optional (we know where he spawns its random between 5 locations) and please include when your server was last reset/down for maintenance! Server downtime might not have anything to do with why we haven't seen Poseidus on US servers but it's a reasonable explanation why we haven't so we might as well pursue the possibility until it can be dis-proven.

Alright to pull all this info together, here's where we stand:

*US Servers have not seen Poseidus spawn on live realms yet. US servers have not had a 72 hr period w/o a server restart yet.

*EU servers began seeing Poseidus spawns a little over 72 hours after their last server restart.

*Respawn timer following first kill is still unknown.

*Each kill Poseidus has dropped BoE and a random BoE 359 Epic + gold/misc item.

*Kills have been reported at all five of his normal spawn points.

*Poseidus still has 55k HP and is soloable by anyone 80+ .

Reported kills are as follows:
09:20am- Abyssal Depths
11:00am- Abyssal Depths
03:22pm - Abyssal Depths
09:20am- Shimmering Expanse
03:41pm- Shimmering Expanse
07:10pm - Biel'aran Ridge
01:09pm- Abyssal Depths

Ok, here is the thing about linking and linked items:

Linking only actually works if you do it in a normal chat or whisper. Real ID does not work. It links EVERYTHING!

Now, if I'm on say...Perenolde, and I'm farming the mount, I keep checking for the link to work, but it doesn't. Ok, I think it's safe. Then say someone on Proudmoore, or any realm that's the same battlegroup, gets the mount. Everyone on that realm will see it, because if one guy has it, the system will communicate with every player around them, caching or making this item linkable. It jumps and jumps till it's cached.

Now, if one of those ppl join a random heroic or a BG, it will be cached to everyone who was in that group.

Then you bring it back home, and it becomes linkable at home.

I know this because, when I was farming Aeonaxx, the mount wasn't linkable all week. Then, I was offline Friday for 30 minutes, wasn't linkable prior to that. I come back on, and it was linkable. I was bummed. However, I got the kill the next day.

Many people do the randoms & whatnot, so it's possible someone got it cached and it spread to me.

So, linking is not 100% reliable. There isn't really a way to prove it's spawned or been killed w/o seeing the corpse.

And there's no way to prove it to us on here, w/o an SS w/ ToD, location, & possible spawn time.

I wish I posted this on the first page, but hopefully it will be seen.

When posting about this mount, we need to keep it clean. Give use information we can use.

If he spawned in one of the 5 known locations or possibly another one we don't know about. Time of spawning, when the last reset was.

That is all useful information.

Now, as from what I've seen, people who post "oh I just posted it on the AH for 250k", your post WILL be downrated! The majority of the people who use this website and information, want this mount for their collection. We don't come here to make gold, farmers don't need it, because w/ as many rares as we kill and as much stuff we loot, we have plenty. We want this mount for the prize that it is.

So, if you have any useful information about this mount, post it on this page or on the page regarding the mount itself (some people post there too). However, refrain from posting ANYTHING about you making profit off of it or posting it on the AH, because it will make others mad, and you will be downrated. Not saying I'm one of those people, but many people with accounts on Wowhead tend to have a trigger-happy downrating finger!

I don't usually post on rare mounts until I have some solid evidence. However, I've been farming Poseidus since patch hit, 12+ hours a day.

I'm on Perenolde-US.

Vashj'ir is a unique zone in that, it's broken into 3 parts, but it's still considered one zone.

Lady La La is in Kelp'thar Forest, Poseidus, Burgy, & 2 useless Horde/Ally rare are in Shimmering Expanse, and Poseidus, Ghostcrawler, Shok'sharak & Mobus are in Abyssal Depths.

I'm very certain that rare world bosses only share a spawn cycle with one another. They don't act like or with the other rares.

Hunter rares are new to Cata, at least the ones that are made just for hunters and don't drop any blues or useful items. So, I can't say for sure if Ghostcrawler is on his own timer, or if he shares a global cycle with the other hunter rares. It's too soon to tell.

I don't know what's up with the Ally/Horde captains, but they're there for whatever reason I guess.

In my many many hours, no, days, of farming Poseidus, the only rare who takes longer to spawn, is Burgy. He has one spawn area, but he's not up as much as La La or Shok are. Both Shok and La La drop useful loot. A spirit/haste trinket from La La and 346 pally heal boots. Burgy however, drops a fun item. A hat that gives you a buff and makes you look like him.

The reins of poseidus would be considered a fun item as well. Seeing that Burgy is up only every 8 hours maybe more, and the others are on smaller CDs, I believe that Burgy could possibly be the Vyragosa to Poseidus.

This is all speculative now, but keep an eye on your Burgy sightings compared to your Poseidus sightings. There's a good chance Burgy could be the (I want to say "Sith Lord we've been looking for", lol), the rare we've been trying to find that has a Vyra-TLPD relationship with Poseidus.

Killed it at 04:12:21 at Abyssal Depths - Underlight Canyon at the confirmed spawn location.
Last reset was a couple of days ago. (From what I know. I haven't been online 24/7)

I tried to farm Aeonaxx for weeks, nothing but 1 bloodseeker showed up.

Decided to try my luck out in vashj'ir. Turned out pretty damn great!

I spend around 2 hours camping in vashj'ir before I got bored and decided to put on a movie. The second I put it on the darn seahorse spawn.
God, I seriously got a heartattack, but it was so worth it!

So , since i posted my kill on May 3rd. There have been LOTS of kill reported in the EU. This may be because in EU there were less server RR`s and stuff i suppose.
Im gonna keep updating my posts when the 2nd kill will happen on my server. Atm there is maintainance.
We can safely asume that server RRs is directly affecting this guys spawn i guses since there was NO KILL IN THE US which is extremly weird.
PS: Since this mount is BoE reins linking will be almost impossible since a lot of people will be selling it at the AH or just keeping it in the bags to try to find an apportunity to sell it. :/ , so keep in mind this.

When was the last restart in US servers, can anyone specify? It's obviously related to Poseidus, I don't believe Burgi is the case here otherwise it wouldn't be dropping in EU only.

Well I dont know if this helpes ( I know the linking is not trustworthy) but I'm on a EU server and before last reset (today at 11h am) the Reins werent linkable and today at 23.25h server time the reins are linkable. So if they are working properly that means Poseidus have already spawned and was killed 12h after server reset. I will try to know I f some one git it and If I have some more information I will share it here with you.
OFC I will keep on canping for it. So cross your fingers for me.

I would like to tell you something about linking reins.
Reins could be linkable all time, while item is at Auction House or in someone bag, and well it rather works properly.
Someone Killed Poseidus at Darksorrow EU around 18;30 ( Tuesday 3th of May) - and reins at this moment were linkable ( i have checked earlier around 18;15 and they weren't)

I remembered something recently.

This book, The Schools of Arcane Magic - Mastery was DIRECTLY effected by restarts, maintenance, and crashes. Each time the realms went down for whatever reason, the timer would reset on the spawns of each book. A soon as realms came up, either the needed books, or the duds, would be there. EVERY restart. That's how I farmed this on my characters. I'd just be on after a restart had finished.

So, restarts do directly effect spawn timers, and I am very certain that the US has not seen Poseidus since 4.1 and EU has, because of restarts. That's the only explanation.

Every time I bring this up to a GM, they act like they don't know anything, which they probably don't, and they don't seem to care about finding out what they can.

And yes, there will be restarts...AGAIN...for the US realm, on the morning of May 6th. So yeah, it seems like I'm wasting time in Shimmering Expanse & Abyssal Depths waiting for this guy to spawn, but he's my last world drop rare, and I'm not giving up.

So any US posters, please post asap if there is a kill & and actual mount on your realm. Time & date please. EU realms, it will help to strengthen this theory of restarts effecting spawn timers, because for some reason you guys have less restarts than US.

Maybe blizzard wants us to know that it is 72h spawn time? Because it wouldn't matter because only few people will get to kill this rare mob. 72h=2 spawns a week if there wont be a reset within 72h from the last maintenance/restart. But how many people do you think gets Aeonaxx/TLPD each week on each server? I know they are both rare but 2 or more times would sound legit. Because actually its a random timer for them, so they could spawn once a week or 3 times a week.

So far its been 1 week and 3 days since patch 4.1 got released and so far there have only been 1 spawn on each server on the EU(compared how many reported kills last tuesday on EU) because we were lucky having the servers up for more than 72h since last restart.

But maybe Poseidus was/is bugged and has a wrong timer. Only time will tell.

Crossing my fingers for one 'soon', happy hunting guys. :)

Ok some fun facts to know:

Seascape makes him crazy fast. When you first see him he darts around and when he flees he is quick... be ready for that because if he flees far his health gets reset and he becomes untagged. Often enough you will have a small crowd watching you and if someone else notices this they could easily swoop down and tag instead of you. Having said this he has never been able to cast this when I was on my lvl85s but on my lvl82 & lvl83 (all different toons, not that greedy lol) I wasn't strong enough and he did dart away.
Don't forget you can fly over the water and NPCscan picks him up. If you have max flying this will save precious seconds.
Abyssal Depths, Abyssal Depths, Abyssal Depths.
Spawners.... please don't bank on theories if you want him, camp him from the moment weekly maintenance is over. Yes right at the very start there was the "won't spawn within 70hrs after weekly" rule but this is no longer the case. Spawners vary on every single realm, the theories do give you a 'ball park' time but on some realms those timers do not apply at all. The mechanics behind spawner timers is it's a chain reaction, not all rares are up at the same time, so when one rare dies it creates the chance for another to spawn. So it all depends on the activity of rare killing/taming on your realm. If you belong to a high population realm you will see more frequent spawns (that are closer to the spawn timers speculated) compared to dead realms where there is the chance a rare might only spawn once for that week. I've personally killed this guy on a Wednesday, a Thursday, a Friday & a Sunday.... I've seen his dead corpse on Thursdays, Fridays, following Mondays & following Tuesdays as well. Never seen him spawn or his corpse on a Saturday... but this doesn't mean he doesn't spawn on Saturdays. So I'll say it again, you want him, camp him from the start.

Some ideas on where to use Reins of Poseidus
So you have your mount but you no longer visit Vashj'ir... so where are some places you can use this mount?

Clam meat farming.
Think of using it on your next cooking/fishing daily, like: Rock Lobster , Feeling Crabby? , Happy as a Clam Digger etc. (forgive me Hordies, I've only ever been lucky getting him on Alliance toons, if all was right in the world I would have gotten him on my main but alas no. There are no doubt quests where you can use him but I've never had the chance of trying it out.)
In Darkmoon Island you will see people running on water trying to get to Shipwrecked Debris pools... it's classier using the reins.
If you're a poser there is a spot in the main fountains of SW where you mount up and you're sitting on the fountain on your shiny mount. Just keep clicking till you get it.
In Tol Barad Peninsula why run around on land, or walk on water, when trying to fish or reach certain areas, take your seahorse out for a spin in the canals, it's far more pleasant.
I've personally circled the coastline of every continent just to make the mount worth while, it was fun because there are some sections I've never seen before... and sharks (͡๏̯͡๏)
EDIT for WoD: If you have this set to favorites along with the other seahorse and your turtle mounts you have a open aquarium, it's pretty fun.

I wish the mount allows underwater breathing but since it doesn't just equip something with underwater breathing like Mastercraft Kalu'ak Fishing Pole and you're good to go.

Well, since it's a BoE mount I think it should be quite rare.
And this might be a way to force that there is only one spawn per week.
Just wait until there are no server restarts and you can start camping at the day it is supposed to spawn. Even way easier to predict then time-lost / aeonaxx. The problem is, that there are a lot of restarts atm and people think they have to camp there all the time to get it. This is just wrong.

The only reason that "works" is because NO US SERVER has seen him. So DUH it's not linkable. There's 233 posts before you that cover the exact same thing.

Had we seen poseidus kills already, checking to see if a BOE item is linkable is stupid and pointless. All it takes is for someone to have the mount in their bags for a few days and suddenly the linking method will never work. Stop using it, it provides zero useful information, just like your post.

Poseidus tracking data is now available through a Google spreadsheet. All kills and sightings reported through Wowhead on the official forum thread will be recorded by the community on this spreadsheet.

I had people camped at each spot. I covered Abyss Depths & the Temple Ruins. I offered a Vial of the Sands or 20,000g to whoever found it for me. The others would get the BoE & something else, like 10,000g, just for helping. If I found it, then they'd get the runner up prizes.

If someone had to go, I would swim back and forth between the 2 closest spots, which were Glimmerdeep & the Gardens. Temple Ruins & the Ridge were covered at the time.

I dual box so I had my alt at the Abyss Depths spawn point.

This macro is VERY IMPORTANT, because IF you are camping a spot against another player, you need to have a target macro that has an instant cast & tagging ability in it. Hitting the NPCScan button slows you down.

I had a macro made as such:

for my mage, I had fire blast and then a living bomb macro.

Found it on my main. He spawns on the North East edge of his little area at the temple ruins. I couldn't find him until I used my mini map. He blends in with the ocean. He swims towards the orange circle area at the Temple (orange circle being the NPCScan Overlay color), and then pats around there. He didn't get that chance because I had to snag him, but I've seen him there before, in the past.

I Face pulled him because my seal wore off and I didn't find him, he found me. I went out of the way and did all that work to ensure the tag, and I didn't need it. Oddly enough, a gnome lock swam by minutes before the spawn. After I freaked out in chat, my friends made it to see the mount and the corpse.

Can people provide some insight as far as WHERE they are in relation to the seafloor? I believe I recollect some people saying you could fly OVER the water and still detect Poseidus, though it seems hard to fathom being able to detect him over a spawn point like the Abyssal Depths unless he spawned much closer to the surface than I am imagining. Maybe talk about your computer specs if you claim to be able to witness him from above the water surface?

Flying is unfortunately only a good idea if you really have no competition. On most realms there are several ppl camping each spawn so in the time you'd need to get down, they already tagged him.

I finally got him. You can never be sure but the advise I received while researching this pony seemed to work. I waited 72 hours to camp him. After 72 hours from the last patch or reset there seems to be a normal timer that spawns him between 0-10 hours. I got him after 9.5 hours.

Could be coincidence however others have found him the same way.

Your chances are good as there does not seem to be very many people camping this pony on my server due to the fact that it is soooo rare and out of the way. Also, you only need to fly over the water to detect it. Saves a lot of time.

Armory's activity feed cannot be used to track Poseidus kills, unfortunately. Since 4.1, all world drop BoEs acquired state their source as Poseidus, since it is the only mob actually tagged as dropping those items on the Armory.

Hi All,

First post ever. Thanks for all the great comments over the years.

I just wanted to say that my approach has been to just fly over the zone a few times a day hitting the npcoverlay designated spots. Unless you are on a high population server, it isnt likely every spawn location will be monitored 24/7.

I used this approach on TLPD, and got him in roughly a months time.

I've only looked for Poseidus for a few weeks, and I got him this evening. He was chilling in the Abyssal Depths.

I'll admit, I do not have Aeonaxx yet, but hopefully i will soon :D

Camping just sucks the soul out of you. Other rare spawns could be up nearby blocking the spawn chance of Poseidus.

Anyways that is my 2 cents.

First it depends on how many money grubbing people you have on your server who are looking for this mount just for monetary purposes. Second it's ALOT tougher because both Aeonaxx and TLPD have multiple spawn points but then pat around certain paths after spawning...whereas Poseidus has five spawn points and will just stay at one of those points and not pat around. Third no one is sure and is still speculation if it shares any spawn timers as other rare world spawns.

- All i can say about this NPC is that so far I have noticed that it does NOT have a pattern at all. That's the tricky thing about this one.. my friends realm had a spawn on Friday, where as my realm possibly still didn't have a spawn..

- Some realms just spawn him sooner then others, and then the following week it might be reversed.
I'm still camping him, I started on Wednesday, neither the Alliance or Horde have one in the Auction House (from this week). Linking wont help due to that Auction House thing ;) ... someone caught it the week before and it's still cached :/. I'll be swimming here in Vash'jir for as long as it takes lol...

- One of the main issues is when people don't post their kills or etc. They could just kill it, mount it, and campers would still think that it hasn't spawned due to the 3 minute despawn timer. We all know Blizzard possibly did this on purpose so he can't be camped as easily... but either way IT IS POSSIBLE TO SPAWN AT ANY TIME. So don't give up hope if it doesn't spawn :).

- Make yourself a macro: for example, my warrior is using:

/Target Poseidus
/Cast Heroic Throw

- Using range macros increases the chance of you hitting and tagging the Rare first. Especially with all of the Mages running around lately :).

- Competition is everywhere, even if it seems like no one is online, there are possible 6 other people on the opposite faction waiting for the spawn. (BoE mount = Gold, there will allways be competition sadly, unless Blizzard makes it BoP..)

- Hopefully someone will recognize a pattern or a technique with this Rare mob, until then all we can do is Camp until he spawns ..

Me again! Okay, so I got the information from my guildie. He found Poseidus on May 28th, between 5-6pm realm time, at the Biel'Aran Ridge spawn point, on the server Balnazzar-US. I haven't heard of him spawning since. Then again, it could be people, like my guildie, that have gotten him that don't share with others.

My guildie's toon is Herbsy-Balnazzar-US, but he plays the toon constantly. The data has since been logged away on Armory..

Btw this mount barely increases swim speed as i just found out, u swim at 67% speed just urself, u swim at 108% with the seahorse, and 135% with druid water form having the 50% extra speed glyph.... in vash'jir however the mount goes 270%.. hope this helps as well

Poseidus's spawn time seems to range from 72-120 hours and is subject to server restarts, meaning his spawn resets after a maintenance or the weekly restart on Tuesday at 5:00 am.

The weekly maintenance usually ends at 11:00 am server time, meaning he won't spawn till at least Friday at 11:00 am server time and at the latest 11:00 am Saturday.

He will only spawn 1-2 times in an ENTIRE WEEK, so be prepared to never have your wish of getting one fulfilled. If there is a maintenance at some other point besides Tuesday in the week, he may only spawn 0-1 times in that week.

Don't waste your time trying to farm him on Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday, because he will NEVER spawn on these days as long as there is a server maintenance on Tuesday. If he is killed on Friday, he will not spawn on Sunday at all, but may spawn on Monday/ Tuesday morning if killed just before 5:00 am Saturday morning. If he is killed past 5:00 am Saturday morning, he will not spawn again until Friday.

So, if you are hoping to kill Poseidus, get his precious loot, and waste as little of your time as possible, pay attention. Only camp his spawning points on Friday at 11:00 am to Sunday at 11:00 am, if you do not find him at some point during those 48 hours, he was found and killed by someone else. If you wish to take a swing at your luck, camp his spawning points from 11:00 am Monday morning to 5:00 am Tuesday morning. There is no guarantee that he will spawn on Monday or Tuesday, and there is only a small chance he will spawn on Monday or Tuesday if he was killed in between 11:00 am Friday to 5:00 am Saturday.

Good luck farming guys and remember that he usually doesn't take 120 hours to spawn, and will most likely spawn after about 96-110 hours as is what the majority of the reports show.

If you think it would be a waste of time farming him, remember that he has been sold in prices ranging from 30k gold to 100k gold, with 100k gold being more common. If you happen to find one being sold for a small amount like 30k, BUY IT AND SELL IT FOR MORE!

In addition to the 270% swimming speed mount that can be used anywhere, he also has a chance to drop one of these three enchants: Formula: Enchant Bracer - Major Strength, Formula: Enchant Bracer - Agility, Formula: Enchant Bracer - Mighty Intellect. He may also drop a 359 BoE world drop as well.

The only downside would probably be that he is hostile. This means that if you are camping his spawn and happen to be AFK... you may be killed by the easiest of the rare mobs. If you don't become a sociopath or fall into deep depression after this, then maybe you can get over your humiliation and continue trying!

Oh yes, and I should mention that you CAN NOT SKIN HIM, so I'm just throwing that out there if you wanted a chance at some skin... even though it really doesn't matter since you most likely won't be trying to farm him for some savage leather.

Also, his corpse despawns after a short three minutes. Consider it useless information if you wish.

In conclusion, killing this rare takes hard work and luck, but the payoff is like nothing ever seen. We are talking tens of thousands to over a hundred thousand gold here.

THIS IS THE BEST RARE ADD EVAR! TAKE ALL THE LOOT!

So from what I've been reading, after wednesday maintenance that ends at 11:00 Paris time on EU servers, it's useless to look for him before Saturday (72 hours later) at 11:00? Or is it possible for him to spawn before? Has this been confirmed? Also does anyone know the range of npc scan? Can it track Poseidus from the middle of Shimmering Deeps?

I recently killed Posiedus, and have to say I'm a little disappointed with this mount.
Outside Vashj'ir both the sea turtle and the subdued seahorse move at 108%.
In Vashj'ir the sea turtle and the subdued seahorse move at 270% and the abyssal seahorse you get from the quest moves at 371%.
Considering the rarity I guess I was hoping I'd be able to replace two mounts with one, but unfortunately that's not the case.

Put in a GM ticket to see if possibly he was aggro'd by whale shark or something, and that's why he was so hard to catch up. His reply makes it seem like he despawns. Perhaps he's only up for 5-10m at a time?

Generally we as Game Masters can't offer any direct advice concerning rare spawns due to their limited and unique nature. However, the reason that there's confusion on the spawn is that there are multiple random factors involved with the spawning of Poseidus including location and duration.

I don't think that Poseidus aggros elites in the area, or at least I have not personally heard of this being the case. But if you're looking for more specific information you may want to keep watching over the fansites, if you haven't already. Places like WoWHead and WoWPedia generally have discussion over the rarespawns.

I just talked with a gm today about poseidus and he said that the npc is alive until it is killed and then the spawn timer starts over and that server maintenance/restarts shouldn't affect spawn timers. personally id rather have him be affected by server restarts with his rather large spawn timer cause that way you would only have to look for him on certain hours of one day in a week. so i hope the gm lied or didn't know what he was talking about lol

Hi guys,

I am really confused as I've noticed on several rare spawn comment threads that people are posting spawn times, kill times, without citing source, making huge claims such as lack of kills "worldwide" between so and so dates, speaking as if they're really confident in the data and no one challenges them.

The lack of citation or challenge seem to indicate that it must be available somewhere obvious on wowhead, but perhaps I'm blind and majorly overlooking things, I simply cannot find where are such data located.

If someone can direct me to where spawn/kill time/date data are located, I would love to be able to make my own analysis and judgement on when to camp for things.

Unfortunately there is one minor error in this post and that is the part about the server restarts dictating when Poseidus will spawn. This is complete rumor and is believed by a large number of people but simply camping between the specified times on Friday and Saturday will not be enough in some cases.

I have been one of the crazy few to hunt this rare spawn on multiple occasions (killing him upwards of 10 times on our server Demon Soul :-/ I need a life, yes) but this amount of killing and information gathering has led me to discern a few cold hard facts. Server restarts do not affect Poseidus' spawn timer. I will explain why...one of the main reasons is because I have asked quite a number of GM's on the topic after say reporting bugs/botters and what have you, and all have mentioned that server restarts do not in fact dictate when a rare spawn like Poseidus (it could for other rare mobs I'm just saying this one for sure) will appear. This is actually kept track of by the servers internal clock which does not get reset during maintenance/restarts and that is the only thing that will dictate when Poseidus will spawn next. Now I know a lot of GM conversations should be taken with a grain of salt, especially because there are those out there that don't actually know what they are talking about, but because I have heard this a few times I started basing my searching around this.

Sure enough the window of 72-120 hours is pretty accurate, but again this will always be after the last time someone killed Poseidus and not when the last server restart was. I have managed to kill this rare npc on almost everyday of the week by following this strategy, and that includes a Wednesday which was right after a down period of server maintenance on the Tuesday before it. Just remember, don't give up, this mob is frusterating because his body despawns within two minutes of looting so finding him dead is difficult in of itself. Also I'm sure this will get downvoted =( because there are people out there who will tell me I am just flat out wrong, but I hope this information was useful to somebody as it is always helpful to have the most accurate of information as possible on wowhead, even if it is contradicting a small piece of information in an otherwise excellent post by Dragoonman.

I'm using my 85 paladin/BS/ to mine the area and to acquire the recipe for my mage.

If you are going to farm this rare. Please make sure you have NPC Scan. And NPC Scan overall. These help so you dont have to keep spamming a macro. Also it takes time. Best time to do it is after reset. For US its tues. For EU its Wed. If you are using NPC scan and overall make sure you never go into combat. It will stop NPC scan until you are out of combat. Good Luck farming and it might take a bit so be patient. :)

Also make sure you are on a char that can easily kill. You dont wanna lose to someone else. Also There are 5 spawn points. 1 in abyssal depths. The other 4 in shimmering Expanse. Make sure you look them up because you want to know where to go. NPC overall shows you locations on map and the radius of NPC Scan. Thank you.

You can get both of these macros from Curse.com. They help you find all kinds of rare NPC's and even the very rare ones if you wanted to farm them. They are different add-ons so one does not come with the other but they are compatible.

Steps to putting add-onn to WOW. 1st download. Then go to downloads on your computer. Then Drag to Interface in World Of Warcraft tab. ( World of Warcraft will be in the Application section on your computer ). Then drag into add-on folder and there you have it!

i've been reading almost ALL the comments here, and i still need some information if possible.

When he spawns, does he travel around? or is he just hanging out at the same spawn point?

Does anyone know if he despawn after a while if not killed?

Have anyone seen or killed him at Ruins of Thelserai Temple?
Any screenshots? Havent seen any post that confirms that he ever been seen or killed there.

IF you have any facts about this please tell. Dont say anything if you dont know its 99% true.

so far i've been camping him for 15 hours. Gonna try the "friday - sunday" theory. bought tons of redbull, so i wont down myself ;) Hope to find him this night. cause what i've been reading, lots of foks has found him on friday night 0100 - 0700.

Well, this guy is just ridiculous to farm...

6 Months ago, I logged in on sunday morning, 9am. There he was... killed him, learned the mount.

Now I'm bored because of a clear 25hc content, I started to farm this guy for my friends.

Since 7 weeks I farm him with 5 accounts (from my friends) at all 5 spawn points. Every day a week, all around the clock, from 8 am to 1 am. I saw him spawn twice. Thuesday at 11:05am and Monday 4:24pm.

So that means, if he spawn two times a ID, there is a 86% chance that he will spawn between 1am and 8am...?

My server had a rolling restart that ended at 10am, I was on by 10:30 and found Burgy at 10:48. Still no Seahorse though. I'm going to keep looking until about 12:30 or so.

Killed Burgy/La-La about 4 days ago. Still no Poseidus, so I'm not sure if Burgy shares a spawn with him. There was the usual Lock down on Tuesday (US Server) and a rolling restart Wednesday, so I'm all thrown off with the timer now. Saw Mobus today (alliance killed him) and killed off the Captain. Been waiting a week now. Just want my little sea pony!

Any suggestions would help muchly!

Burgy's spawn rate seems to be on the mark. Every 3 days he's back up. Still no sign of Poseidus, so I'm unsure if its true about the spawns being shared ( like Vyra and the TLPD )

Confirmed kill on US-Echo Isles on the 13th of May, 2012
Killed it at 06:45:46 (PST) at Biel'aran Ridge at the confirmed spawn location.

I had killed a little over 12 hours earlier if it's any correlation.

Dropped the mount, 425 JC recipe and Pauldrons of Edward the Odd

Also, I flew above the water between all spawn points prior to finding him using NPCscan. I suggest you all do the same. Only took 2 days and it was my first time camping a rare.

He'll become obsolete, outdated and out-styled when MoP is out in stores, with players only in the cata zones to quest and get to lvl 85 instead of searching for and camping this rare mount-dropping seahorse. And when the time finally arrives, when Poseidus thinks that it's safe to spawn, I'll be ready for it, and Reins of Poseidus will finally be mine!

Killed Poseidus in the Underlight Canyon at 00:23 server time on the 16th of June, swimming not far from the ground. The direction he was heading was North from the maps point of view, a bit on the right side (44,68) in the canyon and was really blending into the surroundings. I had to look twice before I realised what/who it was.

He dropped cloth gloves, JC design and the mount itself, all BoE.

A lot of people have speculated about when Poseidus will spawn, and generally people are correct. We are being told to camp him from 11am Saturday to 11am Sunday. Which is fine. However Poseidus is most commonly spotted between the 96 - 110 hours mark. This means if you want to get him faster and have a limited amount of time. You should camp him between these times:

Sunday 11am to Monday 1am

THIS IS FOR EU SERVERS because our realm restarts are at 5am Wednesday and finish at 11am.

I should also mention that he has spawened at four different points in four weeks straight. Don't know if this means he rotates, but it worked out here.

Hey all, I was chatting to a GM this morning and managed to get a screenshot of what he / She had to say.
He / She told me that the maintenance / server restarts DO NOT (Yes.. DO NOT) effect the spawn of Poseidus, therefore meaning he can spawn on ANY day.

I've always been going by the: 72 - 120 Hour spawn after restarts / maintenance and poseidus kill and read many other 'facts' that people have told me about, for example: sharing spawn timers with world bosses, etc. So I recently decided to ticket a GM asking (and hoping) if he / she could give me any information on poseidus, and this is what he / she said, and i quote: "Server restarts and maintenance have no effect on the spawn timers, so it could spawn on any day :P"

After seeing all the comments on here about Poseidus not being affected by server restarts, I decided to test the theory for myself. I camped Poseidus last weekend and eventually killed him at 1:45AM PST on Sunday morning. I wrote the time down so I would know to come back a bit before that on Wednesday morning to test this theory, since people say the 72 hours starts when it dies, and not when the server is restarted.

I came out here on Wednesday at 1:20AM PST and started my camp. According to all the information that I have seen and that has been recorded at notsorare.com, Poseidus is a guaranteed spawn within 48 hours after the 72 hour cooldown period expires. I have been out here for over 48 hours now since the 72 hour period expired, and have seen no Poseidus. I have characters sitting at each of the 5 spawn points with constant coverage and nothing has spawned. This leads me to believe that anyone claiming an off-day kill is lying.

Not only does my research support this, but also everyone claiming that they have killed it on an off-day has failed to provide evidence of these kills. Do not waste your time out there during the week, go out there on the weekends and search, there are no off-day spawns.

You're right, the items that the other world bosses drops can be labelled as dropping from Poseidus in the wow database. Poseidus is still affected by restarts, and won't spawn until 72 hours have passed. A lot of people on here are trying to mislead people, but Exystredofar made the effort of camping permanently since a restart and nothing spawned.

So I think I may've found a better way to scan for Possy :D

Instead of floating around on your seahorse, or even worse, having to do the tedious quest line to get the mount to begin with, if you got high and went to Hyjal(Pun majorly intended)

I realized that when you sit in the waters edge and summon a flying mount that cannot swim(Dragons for example), you will spawn at the LOWEST possible level close to the water without despawning your mount, and also making you PERFECTLY horizontal, which means that as long as you dont screw with the spacebar or X key and down use your mouse to move? Then you can pretty much Speedboat around in one big circle and wait for your NPCscan to ping, OR spam your key with your mouse while flying, if you so want.

My only concern is this: It hasnt been tested, havn't found Possy yet. Can anyone back me up in saying that he's probably never so deep that NPCscan is out of range?

Found him at the Underlight Canyon spawn point. He dropped Reins of Poseidus, Morrie's Waywalker Wrap, Design: Flashing Carnelian and 101 gold, 99 copper.

I wasn't even looking for him. I was just swimming around farming herbs and BAM, my NPC Scan alarm went off. I looked up and there he was. Didn't even know I'd get a mount out of it. I just blew nearly all of my gold crafting Vial of the Sands, so I listed the mount on the AH for 35,000 gold; it sold in less than an hour! So I'm thinking I should have made 35,000 gold the opening bid with no buyout and just let the collectors have a bidding war. Next time I'll know better, IF I'm ever lucky enough to come across Poseidus again.

After having him spawn 4 times at Quel'dormir gardens while camping there, I am fairly sure Poseidus spawns in the top right quarter of his patrol circle. If you look at the circle like a clock, his spawn spot seems to be around "12 minutes". He seems to be patrolling at a speed of (approximately) 8.33 degree per second around his circle, and can go both clockwise and counter-clockwise. Source : a video I took to figure out his speed, and the time tags of npc_scan, my video and screenshots. For science !
My findings are fairly consistent with Quel'dormir, but I'm not sure about other spawn points. Underlight doesn't seem to be the same (either top right or top left). Or maybe it's all random.

I've killed him 8 times, and so far all my kills have been within 72-120 hours of a reset/kill. Then again, I've never camped outside these hours, so bit of a self-fulfilling prophecy here.

...also, I've got to say, running multiple Starter Edition accounts and bringing them to Vashj'ir with a 2-person mount helps quite a bit. Surprised I'm not seeing more people doing this, since multiboxing is legal as far as I know. Somebody tell me if it isn't, so that I may, er, edit my post.

I was questing in the area when my NPCscan went off. I found this guy near the city of naga. SIRA'KESS FRONT.

At the time I had no idea how valuable the mount was or that it was tradeable. < Keep that in mind.

On my server he sold for 70k, sadly I didn't get to sell him because I used him as soon as I looted the reins. I had no idea he was so hard to get.

When I found him he was located at the Glimmerdeep Depths location so it seems that NPC Scan is right in showing the extra spots, that being one of them.

That said, the spot where Southeast spot that Wowhead lists here is where I camped and my scanner went off from that location. Was VERY hard to pinpoint where he was though, during the rush of the moment, so make sure that if he's not where you're camping if you get the scan to go off check the other spots people. ;]

This is maybe the mount i'm most proud of . Got it a year and a half ago after long camping. This is much rarer and harder to get than tlpd / aeonaxx and since cross realm zones, it has become even more challegening to acquire this awesome mount. I rarely see this on ah anymore.

The other pattern, or what seems like a pattern, is with regards to rolling restarts. On these days our server tends to restart very early. July 10th and 17th it experienced a restart near the beginning of the day. Both Fridays after that I killed Poseidus. The 13th was at 8:58am and the 20th was at 8:36am. Two is certainly not definitive proof that this is a pattern, but it is a start. All three other spawns I have been privy to have been on Saturday. Also not proof of anything, but at least tracked evidence. (UPDATE July 28) pattern broken.

Several servers were restarted on Saturday, Sept. 7 in the morning. All 5 spawn points in our CRZ were camped all weekend. We had no Poseidus by 120 hour mark. It seems as long as any realm in a CRZ is restarted, it affects spawn.

I learned when to camp from past player experience. You may not have read this already so I will comment on the following: Poseidus spawns 72 hours, or more, after each server restart (which takes place on Tuesdays) or kill. If you get a kill on a Friday, on your server, it is possible for a second one that week on Monday (72+ hours from the kill) Do not listen to anyone who tells you Poseidus is not connected to restarts. They will just help you into three days of wasted time.

If you don't already have it, get NPCScan AND NPCScan Overlay. The overlay is very important as it shows you the spawn points on your map. You can find it by going to a download site called Curse.com. Some of you think this is obvious, I'm sure, but I can't tell you how many people I have met who have never heard of it. It is a little complicated to use (and to clear the cache) so you will have to read about it a little. It is WELL WORTH THE EFFORT as it will save you a tremendous amount of time in searching for Poseidus and other NPCs (Non-Player Characters) It will tell you when you are near Poseidus, without you having to be close enough to see him. It sets off a sound alarm and makes your screen glow red. It also puts a logo at the bottom of your screen of the NPC it has detected. Some you have to be directly over or under, others will set off your scanner from really far away. Poseidus must be right under or over your location. You can turn the volume up to full, turn down the game's volumes (even all the way) such as Sound, Music, Ambience. DO NOT turn down Master Volume though. This will mute your alarm.

I hope this info is useful. I feel I have the most well documented info available in the threads. I will continue to track our kills and update this info.

Here is a list of probabilities based on the hour you are hunting, if a kill has yet to be made. This chart is based on a recent 11am restart on Tuesday. But the numbers are good. The percentage is the odds you will see a spawn during that hour. Of course, there are 5 spawn points so you must divide this number by 5 (x 0.2) to get an accurate estimate for single camp sites. The first number is the time of day based on Tuesday 11am restart. The second number is the hour starting at 72 hours after restart. The last number is the chance Poseidus will spawn during that hour. This is based on the theory (mostly proven) that Poseidus spawns between 72 and 120 hours after server restarts. So, there is a 48 hour window. Hour 1 = 1/48 2% rounded simply to err on side of caution. Hour 25 48 hours - 24 hours = 24 hours remaining. 1/24 = 4.1%.

One last comment on spawns. In my experience Poseidus sleeps at night as I have only ever seen and heard of waking hour spawns. This may also have to do with players being present in the zone, however, so that may affect 3am spawns (for example) This is neither confirmed or proven either way, in my extensive experience.

At last found this.

First of all: cross realm zones make it a pain to get this, and as such, I went to a realm without cross realm zones, I want people who want this stuff to do some effort, so won't say which realm this is, but I had 2 different dks on 2 different low pop non-crz realms.

Last week I woke up at around 14.45 on sunday, checked the spawn points, detected him at the south east spot in shimmering expanse, but he was already dead, if I had woke up 5 mins earlier I'd have got him, literally.

Also I play on eu servers, which means that according to the theory (which I completely believe) that he doesn't spawn before 72 hours after a server restart, and then he definitely spawns in a 48 hours window, he will normally always spawn between 11 a.m. (if the servers come back up on wednesday at 11 a.m.) on saturday and 11 a.m. on monday.

However, due to rolling restarts ending at 5.30 a.m. thursday, the window for this week was sunday-tuesday 5.30 a.m. - 5.30 a.m..

I started camping, flying between all spawn points on BOTH the realms I was searching for this, I used to stay on realm A for like 15 mins checking all spawn points except ruins of thelserai temple. Reason? I only had one competitor for this, who decided to camp there, as such, if the rare had spawned there, I'd have NEVER made in time to tag it faster, so just decided to fly between the other spawn points.

And every 20 mins I logged on realm B, in which since I created a dk, I NEVER saw a horde in vashj'ir, and horde is the dominant side, and checked all spawn points in around 4 mins, then came back to realm A.

Unfortunately, at 19.30 I had a raid to attend to, so I asked a friend of mine to check for me, as he also had a character on realm A, and neither him nor the other camper found anything, I had a pause at 21.30, so went to check on realm B, nothing, I was away 1 hour and 30 so if the realm had had any sort of activity, it could've been killed, but I just didn't want to lose hope.

At 23.00 the raid ended, so I took over camping on 2 realms, and after a few constant checks on both, at around 00.05 I got an npc scan alert on realm B at ruins of thelserai temple, thinking about the previous week I feared it would be dead once again, but I came back and this time it was alive, and once again not a single horde (dominant side) on shimmering expanse apart from me, great realm for rare farming!

So it dropped the reins, a plate chest 359 BOE, 76 gold and a JC design like always.

So ended up with 18 hours and 30 of camping, but I already had a bit of checks in the past, not sure if this spawn at 0.05 is anything new, but will just put a screenshot as proof in a few mins.

227th mount, was boring farming, but certainly satisfying getting it; recently I also got the camel figurine in 3 attempts (although took me over 12 hours to find each of them) on realm A, I already had time-lost from back in cata before CRZ on my average pop realm, so my last goal of this kind of mounts will be aeonaxx, which I will try once again on realm A and B.

Found Poseidus very shortly (roughly 2-3 hours) after following some of the guides here and a little bit of planning in advance. The mount dropped of course, along with another epic item and a design for a gem.

The epic item which is the Blockade's Lost Shield dropped aswell. Now I noticed that the item isn't listed over what items Poseidus drops, so I'd like to make sure that it's added to the list just for future reference.

FYI for people hunting him, he can definitely spawn after midnight. I have seen/killed him 11 times in the past 5 months, and two of those times were at 00:41 and 01:47. Otherwise, earliest I've seen is 07:11, although I didn't check in the early morning very often.

And no, he was not up for very long because I had made a round ~20 minutes prior in both cases.

Just to confirm some other information that's been stated before:
- He can spawn at any of the 5 points, no apparent pattern.
- NPCScan can target him even if you are at the sky's ceiling, so don't be afraid to fly. Make sure to delete your Cache/WDB folder after you see him if you want it to find him again.
- I've seen him at all times between 72 hours and 132 hours after server restart.

I've hunting this guys for months and nothing, he dont spawn in my server (Ragnaros), and the NPC Scan addon tell me that he havent been killed, maybe he is not avaible in my server, even if i try to hunting him after a "server reset" he dont appear... im sad... QQ

absolutely hate the fact his mount is BoE, all it does is bring people that camp him to sell it(and do it on this mount, just to make me hate 'em more), and bots... right now in my server there are 2 bots running around the spawn points, and all i can do is kill em and hope he spawns where i'm camping...

Logged on to an alt I had parked at the Abyssal spawn point and Poseidus was right there! NPCScan alert went off a couple of seconds later. First kill for me (also first time actually seeing it ever).

Just killed Poseidus at 11:24 GMT on Server Bronzebeard @ Ruins of Vashj'ir / Quel'Dormir Gardens.

I had NPC_Scan and it NEVER went off - I see now it was cached so make sure you clear your cache! The only reason I got the kill was because I used a target macro. /target Poseidus. He appeared as my target and I nearly shat my pants. I frantically swam around looking for it and found it low down. Would have been easier if I put a skull on his head but I was panicking and didn't want anyone else to see him lol.

His body despawns very quickly, less than 30 secs after looting.

I camped nearly all weekend.
Fri: 15:00 - 24:00
Sat: 07:00 - 24:00
Sun: 09:00 - 11:24.

I stayed at the Glimmerdeep Gorge spawn point but every 15 mins or so I would circle around checking the other 4 spawn points. Good job I did as I found Poseidus. With CRZ there were alot of people searching for Poseidus.

NPC scan and other rare-finder addons will now only automatically alarm for vignette rares only (these are rares that show as a star on your mini map). They no longer automatically alarm when you are near a rare or when one spawns from any expansion earlier than Mists of Pandaria. This includes Poseidus, Time-Lost Proto Drake and Aeonaxx. It will only alarm if you target or mouse-over a non-vignette rare.

It is best to create a target macro for any rare NPC that you are camping because using a rare finder addon alone is no longer reliable.

If you are hoping to sit AFK at a spawn point and wait to hear an alarm, you are wasting your time.

Note: As of patch 7.0, vignette rares now appear as a star on your mini map.

Looted this on Saturday 2020 time on EU servers
This is about 85 hours after server maintenance on Wednesday.
Spawned while afking and had nametags on, heard the NPC scan because he passed in front of me, killed it with 2 shots at lvl 90. Camped since Friday night while checking spawns. His corpse despawned instantly after 10 secs.

I didn't even know about this rare. But one day, I was leveling up my hunter and I came across him. I enjoy killing rares. I didn't know he dropped a mount. It really helps when you aren't in Vashj'ir. Easy to kill and stuff. I found him in the Shimmering Expanse. This was back in Cata so I do not remember exactly where I found him.

A few years ago I started camping him and I was really lucky, because I got him within 48 hours. I sold him for 70k gold. Biggest regret of my wow-life, I should have just learned him myself. :(

The map seems to be showing only one pin but Poseidus is known to have at least 5 possible spawn locations (unless this has changed since Cataclysm). Wowhead use to have multpile pins detailing all spawn locations and as far as I can tell Poseidus still spawns in one of multiple locations so don't just check that one.

I can tell you how i found my poseidus. First you install this addon http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/crossrealmassist. And then create WoW2, WoW3, WoW4 and WoW5 accounts. Then make a level 1 on each account and ask for a friend to fly you to vasj'ir. Since you now have 5 accounts, you can have one level 1 at 4 spawn points, and have your main at Abyssal Depths. Also have one of your alts (atleast above level 85) in the middle of those 4 spawn points at Shimmering Expanse. When you have 4 level 1 chars at all the 4 spawn points in Shimmering Expanse and your main at Abyssal Depths and also one of your alts at the middle of those 4 spawn points you can start your camping. So if the poseidus spawns on one of your level 1's you can fast log in to your alt and kill poseidus. You also need this addon http://www.curse.com/addons/wow/npcscan.

I've camped Poseidus occasionally since he was first added, due to the lack of rares that are like this and my everlasting need to see an important rare spawn. These past 4 weekends I thought I'd camp (I do have a life, I just have a lot of work to do in the background, I swear!) and so far I've seen or looted him 4 times. 3 of the 4 times this has been on Wildhammer EU server/cross realm area. Before any rage, I have given away, for free, around 6 reins of poseidus out of the 8 kills I've made, I'm not being greedy :P I just enjoy the camp and the kill.

The spawn locations I've seen over the past few weeks have been:

Week 1 - 25/10: Glimmerdeep 5:30pm Sunday (server time) - my kill

Week 2 - 1/11: Biel'aran Ridge 10:36pm Sunday (server time) - my kill

Week 3 - 07/11: Ruins of Vashj'ir 8:34pm Saturday (server time) - @ Pozzo Dell'eternita realm, my kill

Week 4 -15/11: Glimmerdeep 8:30pm Sunday (server time) - Taken by a rogue that stacked on me for an hour. Very disappointing spamming your abilities only to not get the tag by nano seconds. Tis the way the cookie crumbles. Congratulations to him though.

I'd like to add, this most recent sighting, Poseidus did not spawn were he usually does. I noticed he spawned much lower and to the side of the spawn point, something which I have never seen at Glimmerdeep. I've only ever seen him spawn just under the sharks before but this time he was down by the Sea anemones on the south east wall (towards Nespirah). I'm unsure if this means the precise spawn location (not the spawn points themselves) have changed at all but for the time being I am only relaying what I have seen.

I hope this helps in providing some sort of information about spawns within 6.2. I have never seen it at Abyssal so I will probably make that my aim to camp next weekend. If you are going to camp this, be sure to make yourself a target and attack macro. Getting that tag can be difficult at times, especially with an abundance of other campers that have no regard for how long you have been there prior. Spam the hell out of it and don't rely on NPCscan. As previously mentioned it will not sound without a mouse-over or target (I've found sometimes, even with cache cleared it still doesn't do those long awaited horns). And make sure you do some research on how high up he spawns. I've seen a lot of people camping either too low or too high. If you get a kill and are selling the reins, please for the love of god, make sure you check the price on your realm. You often see people posting accidentally too low and regretting it. The average currently seems to be around 400k gold though it does vary. Just don't sell him for next to nothing.

I should also point out botting. I've seen many a botter over the past few weeks running cycles, it does more harm than good to this game. If you see someone you know is not playing fairly (not just your regular campers or multiboxers), do not leave it unnoticed. It ruins the game for players that are 100% committed. Sometimes they stop and the person behind the computer will ask you a question over Poseidus. I prefer not to answer when I know someone is cheating. Knowledge is power and all that jazz.

One last point to make, as a hunter make good use of eagle eye. Yanno that skill that everyone says is 100% useless, well it turns out the real percentage of uselessness is only 99% (woot woot) :) It comes in very handy for checking locations that are within sight. Glimmerdeep can be seen from ruins of vashj'ir (and vice versa). Both Glimmerdeep and Biel'aran Ridge can be seen from Thelserai Temple and so on.

You have all the weapons you need, now fight.

I haven't seen any comments as of lately on his spawn rate if it's changed. It looks as though he only spawns in the shimmering expanse in one place now. Has anyone tried camping him since? If so, is he still on the same schedules?

Thought I'd share my experience sitting Poseidus. I started around Feb this year and when I could I'd pretty much devote my weekend to this rare seahorse. I've spent hundreds of hours under da sea and I've killed it twice and been up for it's kill many times.

So as far as I know Poseidus is available to spawn ever 72 hours and that 72 hours begins on a server restart. So typically on my server and most US servers the restart is Tuesday night 10-12pm, meaning come Friday 10-12pm it's go time. However as Joe Bowen's Guide mentions the later it gets after he's available to spawn the more chance he's going to spawn which is why you see a lot of the kills happening in between later Saturday and earlier Sunday. So keep an eye out for an unusual restart because you might have the Poseidus spawn all to yourself.

BOTH TIMES I got Poseidus was by doing laps of it's 4 Spawn Points in Glimmerdeep Gorge when I knew there wasn't many people around so I could afford to go for swims and check. However if there's more than 5 people camping him it's better to pick a spot and hope for the best. The first time I got Poseidus was 5:42am on a Sunday where there was probably 1 or 2 people around. The second time was also on a Sunday at 11:43am where there only a few people around. A few weeks later he spawned right on me at Abyssal Depths but not being zoomed out properly I was too late and watched him die right in front of my eyes ;( a fate I wish nobody has to endure. The last screencap in the album below was of that tragic day at Abyssal, you'll see Poseidus had decided to spawn in quite a weird spot.

So, some tips:

1. Zoom Out
2. Do laps if there's not many people around
3. Bring plenty of stuff to do so you don't start questioning the meaning of life and have a small existential breakdown like I have had on occasions.
4. Believe, if you put in the hours you'll get him eventually.

Killing Poseidus with your own two hands is probably one of the hardest and rarest things to do in wow and I'm glad something like this is in the game. Mount aside, sitting for tens of hours is incredibly boring but the thrill of the hunt is what keeps me coming back. And trust me its worth it when you do eventually get him. GL!

After trying several times to get Poseidus I can say at least one thing for sure: it is absolutely unrelated to server restart and getting it at server restart only means he was supposed to spawn during the maintenance time. I camped it after a weekly maintenance of at least one hour several times on a dead realm and I was alone in the area everytime, it was never spawned. If you try to get this rare, camping it at restart is definitely not a good strategy.

Ive camped nearly every weekend since december 2016 till he spawned with my 5 druids(multiboxer :))

I can 100 % confirm that everyone who is at him and has him in target while he is killed gets the mount. Dont need to do damage, just have him in target was enough.
Was 2 times able to get 4 mounts from one single kill. Sadly often you have no time to wait with the kill untill your twinks are there, because there are too much other people around and its too dangerous to wait for the others.

And he ABSOLUTELY can spawn at night-times too. I have kills at 00:04, 00:58, 01:48, 03:11 and 03:05, ALL in the night.

Biggest Problem is that you never know for sure when last server-reset was. Normaly in EU its on wednesday, but if they did another later in the week its possible that you waste your full weekend :-(.

Is it possible to find out last reset ? "Ask" server somehow ?

Why some people here is saying that if you only target him you can loot him?. This is wrong. Today my group target him and couldnt loot him, 1 of other party killed him but we were targeting him. And we couldnt loot him anyways.

Few points : +NPCscan doesn't go off unless you "mouseover" him.
+Don't expect too see a star on the minimap when he's up neither. So, i doubt flying over the area still works..
+I've seen him 2 times on a sunday (EU), so within 72-120hours respawn theory. Got beaten the first time by realmhopper by a millisecond :s

Stealth change in Patch 7.3.2 - Hotfixes: October 24 - Poseidus now spawns every 4 hours.

Multiple friends of mine (6 multiboxers) confirmed getting a kill on Poseidus every 4 to 7 hours on the same realm. This means that the spawn time for Poseidus could be even shorter than 4 hours due to phasing and multiple spawn locations.

Garr, Mobus, Akmahat, Xariona and Julak-Doom have also been confirmed to have their spawn time reduced to ~4 hours.
Aeonaxx might have been changed as well but I have no confirmation yet. If you happen to find something, please post about it.

Don't forget that you can group up in a party of 5 people and all of you will get the mount through Personal Loot!

Does he still share spawns with Xariona, etc.? I mean Cata bosses from Cata locations. Before 7.3.2 I'm sure he did. Now I manage to catch one of the bosses every 4 hours, but can't find Poseidus.

Get a Red Rider Air Rifle. Pick up 4 friends. Share the wealth. Talk to your peeps in the area. Give the mount to as many as you can. Trust the other faction as well.

Reins of Poseidus is a rare mount dropped by the rare, Poseidus. And it is one of the few mounts that can be traded on the Auction House.

Poseidus was first introduced in the Cataclysm expansion. And soon become an item of desire after his spawn timer was shot hard, making him only spawn 1-2 times a week!
However very recently Blizzard have nerfed this spawn timer, making him spawn lots of times during the week.

This spawn timer is now, 3 - 8 hours! Crazy!
So after he is killed the timer will start again, but only after 3 hours of his death will he have a chance at spawning again!

I can confirm that you can still farm the mount by using a Class Trial character on a low population realm. The trick is to start a custom group on the realm where he has spawned, then log in to a character that are eligible to loot the mount. Use the group finder to join the custom group, then zone in and get your mount. Make sure the character is in the same zone to properly cross over.

Another useful tip is that Poseidus can be targeted while above the sea level, so using a flying mount is a great way to quickly cover all of his spawn points. Just spam your targeting macro every time you pass one.

Since the other comments about this are heavily downvoted for some reason, I want to post this information on a fresh comment to anyone Googling this.

No, you cannot loot this on a trial character. I found it on Ravenholdt (US RP, low pop) yesterday and decided to see what would happen. I killed it, got no mount, and a ticket response from a GM confirmed that it was indeed because I killed it on a trial character. This is intended.

However, I see no reason as to why you couldn't do the realm hopping trick with said trial character, provided you are quick enough.

I am just now reading about this mount, and had absolutely no idea it was so rare during Cataclysm. I received it after killing the rare mob, but didn't think anything about it. This was of course before the merged realms, when rares weren't quite as hard to come by.

Greetings. I want to report some changes of prey from this rare monster . Changes in 8.1 - it is no longer possible to get loot for 5 or more characters. Loot gets only 1 character per faction . If you wait in a group, only one player will still get the loot. The same system is introduced with a rare monster Aeonaxx . I think the mount from this monster will become more expensive. Checked on eu servers and on the us. Everywhere extraction system on 1 character. I decided to experiment with a trial character. I wanted to debunk a theory you could could camp/obtain other rarespawn mounts, Poseidus, Time-Lost Proto Drake, Aeonaxx, Grey Riding Camel, etc etc. (excluding the Frightened Kodo) with a trial character that is still in progress of said Trial. (one which is not unlocked through a character boost purchase.) while in Warmode, i decided to camp/hunt Poseidus, no one was around, and this was an RP Server mind you. So it's not really hurting anyone, as no one was actually there. and Tonight on Venture Co, 5:08 am EST. I found and killed Poseidus on said Trial character, and he did not drop the mount, he only dropped the BoE Epic and random recipe. So, i want to stress, that you will only waste your time and chance at these rare spawn mounts, excluding the Kodo on a trial character. I hope this helps, and i hope you all understand that this was only to debunk a theory and to help prevent such things from happening. Good luck in your hunts, and I hope that you all obtain these rare mounts you are searching for!

I farm Poseidus regularly for gold, and I wanted to share that after seeing him countless times, he is no more likely to spawn in one location over the other. It is entirely random. Good luck on the mount!

Can you guys who have got the pattern post things like, What level, race , faction, skill level, realm, and was it an alt or a main who did all the killing. Just trying to make a more focused hunt :)

Wyrmrest Accord: Got him with my 120 main a little after 9 p.m. server time this evening (Sunday) around the Ruins of Thelserai Temple. He was not in the area a couple of hours earlier.

The spawn rate was massively increased quite some time ago - it has always been a 100% drop rate for mount but the respawn used to be once a week (sometimes not even weekly if there was a reset)) ...then multi tag loot made it a little more common on AH ( not sure if this still gives a mount to everyone in group )...and then they made it spawn every hour or less, which greatly devalued its price & novelty - which sux for those who camped it or spent huge gold purchasing it when it was extremely hard to get

Trail-Accounts:
"Class Trial characters are not eligible to loot rare mounts."
I just found that after i killed poseidus with my trail-account. Poseidus did not drop anything at all for my trail-character.

Killed him today near the night elf city, Quel'Dormir Gardens or whatever it's called (Thurs 7:30am). I could target him from above the surface of the water. So if you are farming for this guy, yes you can fly at low levels above the water and still target him. I'd been looking for him for the last 4 or 5 days and finally happened across him. I didn't trust any oddball macros, just had a very simple "/target pos" macro that i'd tap around his spawn points.

I killed him today but he... kept swimming dead in circles and I couldn't loot him - had to click him 100 times before I finally could loot him - I was getting I'm too far away from him...

About a month ago I had
drop from him, earlier today dropped as well.

So, another farmable source for the two patterns.
