This pet is a rare spawn of the cobbleshell pet, and you can force the spawn by killing the cobbleshell battle pets as well as the critters.

When capturing, don't use any ability that lowers him to 1HP, or it will kill itself.

Coords all together for easy copy/paste.
Shares a spawn with Cobbleshells, so kill them to try and get it to spawn.

I found this pet at /way 43.45 75.54
I used this macro which lists all the rarer pets in the zone.
/target deepridger
/target ebonwing
/target lithen
/target scarlapod
/script SetRaidTarget("target", 8);

Find an area with lots of Cobbleshells, (the water at the southern tip of the map is perfect.) If you confine yourself to a smallish area, it's more likely you'll get the rare to spawn in while you're around to find it.

Spam a macro for:

/tar Cobbleshell
/tar Scarlapod

Kill all critter Cobbleshells you run across and kill (or battle if you like) the battlepet Cobbleshells.

Took about half an hour of running around among the water pools before the Scarlapod spawned in.

To ensure it doesn't kill itself while capturing, you can forfeit the battle and try again until it doesn't have the Crystal Overload ability.

/tar Scarlapod
/stopmacro
/tar Cobbleshell
/use Shuriken Toss

Replace Shuriken Toss with your instant damaging ranged ability.

Also, can be used for other rare battle pets.

Ebonwing Moth, Deepridger , Scarlapod and Lithengale are all catchable rare pets found in Zaralek Cavern

When entering the areas of where the rares spawn you can kill pets that share the same position to make them spawn faster. Good hunting and good luck :)

Got it after a total of 130 kills of Critters (115) / Pet version (15) of Cobbleshell

I ran repeatedly between /way 61.18 53.98 and /way 58.30 61.40 killing every Cobbleshell critter and battle pet I came across (using a targeting macro). Three hours later, a Scarlapod spawned. Was it fun? Nope, but at least it's over now.

Make sure to read the other comments here. Scarlapods do damage themselves, if they have a specific ability (Crystal Overload). Thankfully, mine didn't, so I Grumpy'd it down to 1 health and quickly captured.

Scarlapod

This NPC can be found in Zaralek Cavern (47).

Pet Battle: Zaralek Cavern

Because their dens tend to be close to drogbar settlements, these snails are both faster and stronger than those on the surface.
