Titel says "Why GS doesn't work" when it most likely should be "Why it doesn't belong". You're welcome
Wowhead needing to explain to Classic Andies why the idea of it is only really applicable at WOTLK onwards and not before. The wannabe 3 button Elitists in the LFG Tool will get really mad about this.
Gear check from classic-armory
in other news. Water is wet.
Someone mentions their GearScore we all just point and laugh. What good is a 9001 Number Score if you're out-DPSed by the tank?
Gear score is relative to other players of the same spec. A 1100 gs feral is very different from a 1500 gs feral.
At first it was hilarous that with sudden influx of new people in TBC we had a return of gearscore addon so widespreadbut in reality, GS is helpful. My dungeon experience with my friends and guildmates improved a lot when we started placing people using/whispering gs on ignore list, same with guild application. For sure some good clueless people got in, but it's a small priceit's like, without knowing, a lot of people put a literal red flag openly in public, making filtering out potential bad actors much easier. I'm only sorry for literal newbies who got themselves blocked out
"well there's a few exceptions to the rule so we need to just completely disregard the rule"Gear Score was never meant to be a be-all end-all measure of your character's strength. It's just a quick and dirty estimation of your overall gear level. Anyone using it for more than that is stupid, but it's still a useful tool to quickly judge pugs. When there's 10+ people whispering me for an invite to Kara, I don't have the time to slowly and carefully look over their gear.Just because there's three small exceptions to Gear Score doesn't mean it's completely wrong and bad and "LE RED FLAG". TBC still has stats tied to item level, it's just not super consistent and 100% streamlined like WOTLK is. I'll take a player in full Kara gear over a player in full blues any day.
GearScore has been, is, and always will be a useless stat heralded by people who struggle to hold a spot in a guild.
I love the comment “they could just artificially inflate their gear score” with what all the OS raid loot they’ve gotten. Perfect I def want that person who has raided so much they have enough gear to inflate their score. That is what a GS check is for. If I’m tanking and someone sends me 1,500 gs 100% they are getting an invite over the potato who says GS is dumb. I’d rather play with the cocky person who is bragging about their GS. I have 5 tanks and have run literally thousands of dungeons and raids with them. The dude posting their GS is about 80% of the time a better player.
gearscore is bad until wotlk where everybody upgrades almost every slot, almost every tier (flare of the heavens/scale of fates/comet's trail type items are the only exceptions)
