The simpler solution would have been to use the upgrade tracks from this version - and then just use a unified currency like Valor. Sure you COULD just farm valor in low keys - but that wasn't really the issue that needed to be solved. The issue that needed to be solved was farming ITEMS in low level keys and then upgrading them to max. So you keep the upgrade tracks - and go with 1 currency - its clean, its simple, it solves all the problems.Second solution to the current problem some people are facing - once you are capped on a higher level crest, the content you do should reward the lower version instead of nothing. Having to go do 11-15 keys to upgrade items you are pulling out of 16's that you are chain running feels bad.
This system is horrible.1: if you upgraded a piece and just got a higher “benchmark” piece, your flight stones were wasted with no refund. Discount or not, your time was wasted and consumed.2: RIP to wanting to have geared alts.3: We don’t need more than 5 types of upgrade currency. We are wasting our time playing an ilevel game vs playing the content we actually want to.
Here we go again, give people explanation longer than 2 sentences and they lose their minds and turn into idiots. New upgrade system is a massive w and upgrade over valor in every way (especially in the way that you can't farm bis gear from mindless content anymore). Hopefully it stays in future patches as well.
It would be nice if this article pointed out where you can get better than Adventurer tier gear from open world content. Pretty sure the weekly Niffen quest gives you a Veteran piece and I think the new world boss drops Veteran or even Champion.
Yeah no, valor was much better. And here’s why.Say you get your bis weapon from a +6 cause you’re helping your friend. Sweet, you can upgrade it to the max you can with valor (aside from vault). Now? You have to farm +16s to get your weapon or trinket or whatever you need, because you can’t upgrade tracks. This system is even more limiting. The only oversight they had is not being able to upgrade tracks. If you’re doing the work at higher levels, you should be able to upgrade to those levels
Valor may have allowed you to buy 2400 rating from untimed 18s, and then upgrade anything to 415, but for people actually playing the game, this new system is great. The upgrading of raid items is amazing - finally being able to have BiS trinks at a decent ilvl...Anyway, the items from 2 9s go up to 437... the items from 17s go to 441 - you'll survive, and stop whining.Edit: items from 2s don't go to 437. Items from 8s vault do though, or timed 9s, failed 11s. Do those instead lazy.
I miss the valor system... I dont know why they tried to reinvent the wheel and made something annoying and super complicated.
Much better system than Valor. My only complaint is that whelpling and drake fragments/crests were basically immediately useless. Wish you could trade 10 of a crest for 1 of the next level or something along those lines.
This gearing system is probably the best I've ever experienced, and I really hope it continues forward. It's nice being able to have deterministic upgrades no matter what you do, and being able to get decent gear in world content. My only criticism, and it's minor, is that I can see a time where my main has absolutely no use for Whelpling or Drake crests, and it would be nice if I could at that point trade completed Crests to alts to help them gear up, similar to how a lot of reputation in Dragonflight becomes BoA tokens when at max rep.I know why they want people to play alts and earn the gear but I think once a character has no use for Crests it's not that big a deal to let them funnel any extra they get over to speed the process up.
