You seem to be forgetting that we will likely have 6 months - 1 year in this patch. Nerfs will come, huge ilvl bumps, double legendaries, and class tuning. This boss will fall, but the sponsored guilds will be hard-pressed to earn any kills without double legendaries.
This boss is good for ultra high end guilds with reliable cores of amazing players, but it will be terrible for mythic guilds who aren't like that. This fight is like Star Augur which was not fun to prog on for average M guilds and not fun to reclear because you could instantly wipe 7 minutes in because of 1 player making a mistake. You could make every boss like M Halondrus and it'd be the best and most difficult raid ever, but the vast majority of M guilds wouldn't clear the raid because if you're not ultra high-end, you're always waiting for the last few players to "do it right". Most guilds would just get tired of hundreds of wipes per boss, and either the best players would app to higher guilds or the worst players would quit. Obviously the WFR guilds don't have this problem because they are all great and subsidized. I've raided in the 250-500 world M range for most of my WoW playing career and this is always how it went. At times we lost top players because prog wasn't fast enough and we got good apps from lower guilds who were sick of their guilds' prog. The top guilds already have almost everyone with 4pc and playing optimally and they're still struggling this much. How will the average M raider do? Give the average M raider 4pc and double legendary and they probably won't pump as hard as these guys.
This whole raid tier is just over the top and will be unfun if they don't make serious changes. Most CE guilds are just heroic guilds right now sitting there farming heroic & normal until they can get everyone 2 & 4-pieces just to do Mythic. Then you get a boss like Halondrus which is just absolutely insane. So he'll be the biggest wall just before you have to do Anduin.I'm just hoping that by the time most CE guilds get to this boss he'll be massively toned down or the gear gains we get over the next couple of months will make that much of a difference.
imagine how cake this raid will be with double leggos unlocked
After so many years, I am really enjoying the world first race ... Awesome job blizzard
I wish more people had this mindset
Is this a new type of timegating?
I've always been under the mindset that when clearing the current difficulty, you need gear from that difficultly. So gear from Normal mode should be enough to get you started in Heroic, but not clear heroic. Heroic gear should be good enough to start Mythic, but not clear it. The progress of killing earlier bosses of the difficulty to get gear to then progress to the next boss and if you don't have the gear, you wait for the reset and try again the following week with more gear from the bosses you kill again and then just rinse and repeat. But then that would probably kill any sort of World First Race since it would take weeks or months to fully clear a raid.
The issue with this boss being this difficult is two fold. One, even with double lego, the average CE guild is not going to have as high of raid wide DPS as these two without double lego, you can talk about missing power for these top guilds, but the fact is the skill gap more than makes up for it. Two, these wipes are not something that gear would prevent, they are tuned currently as instant raid wipes regardless of gear, the current numbers would wipe a raid in 100% maxed gear for the tier as well, meaning it's purely a mechanics thing. If the best guilds in the world need this many attempts to beat these mechanics, again this will be a nightmare for the average CE guild. This is, honestly, just really poor boss design that will have to be nerfed many times over to be doable for the average CE guild. Pass/fail mechanics are unfun enough, but when they occur hundreds (maybe a thousand or more) times over the course of a fight, it's just mentally exhausting and makes for a toxic team environment because when you are wiping is it always directly someone's fault since no single mistake is recoverable when every single mistake is an instant raid wipe. There is a line that gets crossed with designs like this that take it from difficult to just outright unfun, and it seems like the last few tiers Blizzars has had a growing number of boss fights that cross that line.
