Huge Upgrade System Changes in Midnight - Datamined Crest Changes

Posted 2025/10/14 at 9:56 AM by Squishei

This is datamined information on the Midnight Alpha and is subject to change.Upgrade System Changes in Midnight

The Champion track (and tracks below) have been reduced to 6 ranks (was 8).
Each track only requires their respective crest in order to upgrade, even past 4/6.
Crests costs to upgrade now scale from 10 Crests (for 2/6 upgrade) to 50 Crests for the final upgrade.

Reduced Champion TrackCrest ChangesUnknowns

We don't know what the crest economy is like. It's entirely possible that the amount of crests per week could increase, decrease or even be uncapped.

Does Crest Saving even still exist? Does getting a Myth 1/6 piece save you the crests on a Hero 5/6 piece?

How much does crafting cost?

This sounds terrible

Here for the angry overreactions and misinformed hot takes on a datamined and probably incomplete implementation.

So if hero gear doesn't use myth crests at all, we now either have to cap "gilded" every week just to get crests we can actually use, or run pointless baby keys just to get the crests we use?

Also this scaling cost nonsense is terrible. No thanks.

Yey more gating , thats what we want , gated gear , gated raids , who knows whats next :D

Comment by Lillian

We are gonna be close to ilvl 300 in the first season after the squish? Holy

Comment by Kabookiejoe

Ah yes, because having to grind gilded for heroic gear was good design...

and once ur capped on gilded u always got the next set of crest...

The post above you beat you to it.

Whether this winds up being good or bad depends entirely on how the crest economy and weekly crest caps work. My default guess would be that since the average per-level cost is becoming 30 rather than 15 in this system we just see caps and crests gained from everything double.

Comment by doodman87

I don't like the whole crest system, getting 90 crest every week for like the first 2 month of a patch is getting more and more painful (and you gotta grind again with turbo boost, the worst event ever.

"uh you gotta grind AGAIN this season to be strong, this is new content! (crest limit removed but for some reason, you don't get more crest)"

the removal of valorstone is good, no idea why they existed in the first place.

they shoud remove crest or double all crest source because unlike gear it doesn't feel rewarding to farm a currency.

Comment by Denlys

Unless they set the cap limit much higher or uncap it totally, its gonna be a torture

Comment by Elazul01

Hm, so crests now overlap at the end of one track and the beginning of another. This'll make for some interesting gearing upgrade decisions

Comment by Acel

Why do I feel like you would then cry that there isn't enough content to do?

Comment by AlakeiThancan

This honestly sounds so much more cumbersome and complicated than the system in place.

That's how it currently is and not at all what the article said...

Comment by pghcrew

Seems promising but they should just remove overlaps amongst tiers completely. This is just a different, moderately better version of our current issue.

Yes the Crests but how the upgrades work and how many you need is completly diffrent. It depends on how many we can get per week and how many dungeons/raids we have to run for it.

Comment by d3zmond

Im gonna refrain from crying too much as this is still early alpha, but the current system live is almost perfect. If it gets ruined because of the people who cant do two world quests to get valorstones for upgrades, I'm gonna be saad.

Comment by qaccy

It would be a classic Blizzard move to take a good change like removing valorstones and make it suck by making crests worse, but we won't really know for sure without knowing how crests will be acquired in Midnight.
