Unless you're a decor called the Elegant bed or whatever, and then the textures get all out of whack, Pillows on the drapes! Wood on the matress! So broken!
are people this challenged that they need a tutorial about how painting an item with a dye works?
Unfortunately the Dye system is currently one of the weakest points of Player Housing. It starts off good. Suitable herbs from every expansion to make all the pigments. Love it.9 different Pigments. A lot, but sure. Doable. But there's where it goes off the rails. These 9 Pigments then get turned into 62 different Dyes. In other words, if you want to spend an evening building with a well-prepared storage, you need 62 bag/bank spaces full of materials. That's just crazy. And it's unnecessary. You don't even combine different pigments or anything. All greenish Dyes just use 2 green Pigment. You could make a system that just makes due with 9. Or even better, make Dyes stored within the system itself, like how furniture is. If it can store 10 tables, why not 10 cans of copper Dye?I hope they can update the Dye system to be less burdensome on storage space in the near future.Edit: Also on a personal note, the Large Razorwind Gazebo is marked as dyable like the Alliance one is, but this Horde version is unfortunately broken and can't be dyed, which I hope can be fixed as well, given its frequent use in creative outdoor home design.
This is one of the worst parts of Housing, and I'll not be using it until they change how it works. Sure, crafting dyes is cool and all, but it's way overbloated and unpractical. You must have a specific dye EVERY SINGLE TIME you want to change EVERY SINGLE ITEM. If you want to try out how your stuff looks in blue, you need 1 dye of that specific blue per item, and then you need 1 dye of the color you had previously to revert it back. It's insanity, especially since 60+ dyes are saved in your inventory. Just make dyes a collection that you unlock forever by using the specific dye (like Guild Wars 2). Maybe make dyes a bit harder to craft so it's still economically viable, but there's no reason it should be a consumable (especially since it's already quite expensive to acquire just a couple colors).
Is the dye usuable multiple time or only one ?If the item is then put back in inventory, does it keep the dye or it's revert ?
And for an extra info, if you dye something and then remove that decor, the item gets added back in to storage as a (Dyed) alternative appearance. You won't get the dye back, but at least not entirely gone..
Hilarious for Wowhead to use the most broken example of the dye system in the thumbnail. That elven bed, like another commenter mentioned, has had broken textures when dyed since at least the launch of Housing. I was hoping it would get fixed this this latest maintenance as I want to use it in one of my rooms, but no dice yet.
Honestly, I'm a bit disappointed with dyes. Up-close, dyed models look awful. You can see some BIG black seams on the borders separating the dyed parts and the vanilla parts of a model, UNLESS every part of a model's texture is dyed.
This entire system is awful and needs to be overhauled. Just let us unlock or buy the colors a single time and let us freely dye what we want, however many times we want.
Dyes and decor sucks! It should be a one-time buy to collect the decor and color so you can keep using it as many times as you want.I wouldn't mind a higher initial price to avoid having to keep buying this crap multiple times...
This system needs to be fixed and simplified. A lot of dyed items have weird texture once dyed or dyes the wrong part (looking at you secret bookcase that dyes a third of the books the same color as the furniture)There is no need to have two steps when dyeing stuff. Let us create pigment from flower with Alchemist/Inscription and use these pigments directly as dye. This way this only occupy a dozen of item slots in our inventory and we can use directly (i.e. purple dye) as any variations (i.e forsaken, kirin tor, etc)
dyes should be buy once, add to collection, use as many times as u want.
The constant buying of the dye is trash this needs to be fixed asap!
Wish more of the stuff were dyeable--- especially outside things like the tents and wagons.
Dyes are terribly implemented. 62 bag slots on one character. If I want to use it with many characters I need 62 slots free on the warbank. The person who designed that doesn't have any idea of the max bag space we have.
so they are willing to add a colour system for decor but refuse to do it for player armor..
It astounds me that in an article titled "How Player Housing Dyes and Customization Work" that it fails to mention that you convert pigments to dyes at a dying station. The author of the article had 3 things to cover and they could only be bothered to mention 2 of them. Does Wowhead not have editors?
