The tier set bonus for Balance Druid is a bit of a weird one. In 11.0.5 we gained Sunseeker Mushroom. This has typically been the go-to version of mushrooms due to the lack of a GCD press for us. They aren't a huge portion of damage contribution, nor is it something you actively play around, so making it our Tier Set is a bit questionable. It will continue to be largely a tier set in which you ignore the effects of and instead it contributes damage passively. As for strength of the tier bonus, it doesn't seem especially strong on Single Target. Wild Mushrooms are a predominantly AOE effect, so expect it to be more of a M+ style tier bonus instead of a raid style tier bonus. It also works a lot better when targets are stacked compared to them being spread out as the +20% damage modifier on Starfall is a big deal. You can also get more procs of your mushroom with Whirling Stars Celestial Alignment. This should help you with your burst AOE damage a bit more as Mushrooms can deal a sizable amount of AOE damage while also getting your Waning Twilight online immediately from your cooldowns.

I'm not in love with the role-based tier bonuses in general. I don't especially think that Wild Mushroom is a great choice for Balance Druid's tier set, and it feels like this is occurring because they need something to fit the theme of the "Jackpot!" The role-based tier bonuses require the 4-set to do a lot of heavy lifting, which for Balance Druid it is not currently. Some of the best Moonkin tier sets of all time have been converted into talents, but this just reducing the possibilty of cool and unique tier effects seems like a step in the wrong direction. The 4-set has pretty solid synergy with the 2-set, but it's never anything you really play around. That is the larger concern moving forward with the role-based bonuses with Blizzard's ability to create something that synergizes well with your individual spec kit.

I suspect Balance Druid will continue to be one of the better M+ specs while having limited representation in Raid. How you feel about the tier set probably depends on what kind of content you prefer doing. Some of the best tier sets for Moonkin have involved some procs that interact with our kit. This is unfortunately something that is completely passive, and most feedback has been critiquing the blandness of the set itself.

Feral Druid War Within Season 2 Tier Set First Impression

Blizzard have released the tier sets for the 11.1 patch, they're taking a new approach by making tier sets globally less interesting. All tiersets will now have a 2pc that is mostly role specific. All melee DPS will share a 2pc bonus with minimal adjustment for the spec and a role-specific keyword, "Winning Streak!". The 4pc will interact with that 2pc. I think it's a novel choice to make tier sets more boring, but in case it's not readily apparent, I think it's a bad one. The highlight of tier sets was changing your spec across different tiers. Not all 2pc bonuses were exciting but there have been some highlights in the past (Ammirdrassil notably) and how it interacted with your 4pc to build a complete package.

Oh boy, the last time I hated a tier set this much, it was also a .1 patch. It's weird that it happened twice. The tier set sucks in a couple of different ways, and it's not going to be particularly easy to fix.

To begin with, most people's concerns are tuning. We don't yet know how significant the physical damage will be, but unless it's SIGNIFICANT, then this will suck numerically. Looking at my logs from the last tier on a single target, this would be approximately a .5% dps increase. Generally, you expect a 4pc bonus to be AT LEAST about 10x this value; for the physical damage to make up for this, it would have to hit about 1m for each cast of Apex Predator (which would be about 50% the damage of each bite in this log), that seems a tad unlikely to me.

However, Tuning isn't much of a concern for now; I'm sure if it's actively bad (which it looks like it is), then it will be buffed. However, it has other problems, first regarding talent and hero talent choice and second in gameplay (or the lack thereof).

Currently, Feral's premier hero talent choice is narrowly Druid of the Claw; this hasn't been the case for much of the tier where we played Wildstalker; these two hero talents play pretty different talents, and at least personally, I've enjoyed the shift across the tier, change is nice sometimes. These two hero talents are so close that they are indistinguishable, and because they have different gameplay, people are playing both of them; you can play either to the highest level, which is shown in logs. I'm sure I don't need to explain how rare it is for there to be legitimate personal preference in terms of gameplay choices in talents; I don't believe it's happened more than half a dozen times in my memory. This tier set kills it, firstly because we lose our existing tier set which props up Druid of the Claw and secondly because this tier set enforces Apex Predator's Craving, a talent which is actively negative for Druid of the Claw. Tier sets where you're locked into a talent aren't unique, on of my favourite sets ever (Amirdrassil) locked you into a talent, however in the new world of hero talents it's a bit different. Maybe blizzard will ultimately decide that it's fine to enforce Wildstalker in raid for a tier but I think it would be a damn shame to kill the unique situation we're currently in.

Gameplay is important to me unsurprisingly, this tierset doesn't have any gameplay. The 2pc and the 4pc would work at odds with each other but the 2pc kind of works against Feral's gameplay fullstop. Feral despite it's resource reduction this expansion still casts a ton of bites, and frankly you're not going to avoid casting them to maintain it. The 4pc does work against this however by bumping up the number of bites you WILL be casting by forcing you into Apex. There's not a lot really to say about this, though; it's just very dull; you'll ignore both parts, and play your rotation as expected. There's no point in tracking this unless it snapshots (if it snapshots, I change my mind. It's kind of cool). The only good thing I can say about it gameplay wise is it's not the Abberus set that actively made your gameplay worse.

All in all I give this tierset reveal a 3/10, a shared 2pc is incredibly dull in general, you can't be creative and innovative and give each class the love and attention it deserves when you also have to have a thematic link for every other spec in their role and you can tell that with how the tierset has come out. It's boring, it's uncreative, it makes Feral's choices worse, but at least it doesn't look like it will make me hate playing the spec (shout out Abberus).

Guardian Druid War Within Season 2 Tier Set First Impression

The tier set bonus for Guardian in Season 2 of The War Within is interesting and has some cool potential. As with all of the Season 2 tier sets Blizzard has chosen to give us role based shared 2-set bonuses. For this reason there really isn't too much to say about the 2-set as it lacks any real depth and is purely a random Survival Instincts proc that will be inconsequential 90% of the time, alongside a 15% damage buff for 8 seconds.

Overview & Gameplay

Currently it is impossible to quantify how much value the 4-set bonus will add as we are unaware of what "druid spells" it will choose to cast. It could be a simple copy paste of the Convoke the Spirits spell list, which would be quite negligible for Guardian, as it does not have Maul included and will heavily prioritize things like Ironfur that deal little to no damage.
I would say this tier set is interesting because it has the potential to be one of the best tier sets in the game or one of worst purely based on what spells could be chosen. It's possible we opt to go Cat Form and spend our 10 gcds in there to get the most out of tier set. We will have to wait for future PTR testing to truly get a good grip on what this tier set does exactly.

Feedback

I really enjoy tier sets that add some flavor and fun to the rotation and this 4-set definitely has the opportunity to be quite cool. However, having to cast 10 spells to gain the full value of the 4-set currently could be an issue if procs are so common that you are unable to spend your 10 stacks before another proc comes and munches remaining stacks. This could be resolved by it stacking up past 10.

I think the role based 2-set is a pretty boring way to put in significantly less work on tier sets overall and I don't think the 4-sets gained any of that extra time. The current tank 2-set may even lean into silly things like standing in as much damaging abilities as you can to gain the most Luck of the Draw! procs as possible.

Speaking of the 2-set, it would be much stronger if we were able to actively save or proc the Survival Instincts when we desired. A random proc is rarely useful but something we can choose to proc is quite powerful and would help fill CD gaps immensely, which is something that Guardian tends to struggle with.

Overall, it's a potentially interesting tier set for sure, but too vague for us to know much about currently. Hopefully the spell list has some strong options like Pulverize, Full Moon,Barkskin and Starfall and intelligent targeting so we don't end up with 10 Rejuvenations on pets.

Two-piece bonus: Insurance!

In this upcoming tier, all healers get an identical 2pc bonus with one key difference: the strength of the HoT is different based on your spec. Restoration gets one of the weaker HoTs which our 4pc bonus is supposed to make up for. We'll revisit this in a second.

Two-piece in Numbers

With decent gear, each Insurance! HoT heals for about 900k over 15 seconds. If they drop low and proc the second part of the ability it'll heal them for 400k (about 5-6% health). The proc rate scales with haste which is extremely good for naturally high-haste specs like ours - particularly when we include our 4pc below!
From the random 2pc procs alone, you'll get 70-90k HPS with high variance since effects like these are very prone to overhealing. If the targets often drop low early and proc the second part of the effect then you'll get less overall HPS. You might save a life or two but the heal isn't very high.

Four-piece bonus: Free HoTs!

The Resto 4pc bonus can be a little confusing and I think it's easier if you look at it as two distinct bonuses:

Lifebloom's "Bloom" has a 30% chance to apply Insurance! for 10 seconds. Works with Photosynthesis, works if you refresh Lifebloom on its target with less than 4.5s left. Not a very strong bonus overall.
Separately, all Insurance! HoTs (including those from our 2pc) leave a Rejuvenation, Regrowth or Wild Growth when they either expire naturally, or when the target drops below 40%.

The latter is the real set bonus and where most of its power comes from. Think of the Lifebloom portion as a nice addition rather than a primary driver of tier set strength. The Lifebloom portion will be a little better in Mythic+ where you have two Lifeblooms available.

The value of the 4pc will depend a little bit on whether there's a priority or not to which HoT is added. It specifies "missing", but when multiple HoTs are missing a Rejuvenation prioritization would increase the value of the set quite a lot. It's going to be awkward to funnel these HoTs into any kind of ramp but generating 6-8 free HoTs a minute is still fairly decent. It also adds a relationship between haste and free casts (via 2pc), not that we needed extra motivation.

Role-Based Tier Sets!?

I'm not in love with shifting tier sets to be role-based rather than spec-based but as a one-tier experiment it should do ok. There's a risk that these might end up feeling quite generic since the 2pcs are identical and the 4pcs are so passive that they aren't introducing a lot of new gameplay which is an expectation of tier sets at this point. There's a real excitement when tier sets are unveiled since they often introduce completely new ways to play but I didn't get the same feeling from these.

First they change mastery bonus to decrease it's effectiveness with more hots on target.
Then, they add free hots to apply with 4-set so it will decrease mastery effectiveness.

Why even bother with 4 set then? It just seemed too forced. I get where he's coming from because after a certain point, everything takes a thousand bites.
