For most player they don't really dive into AP grind. They do their 3 island a weak, few emissary and that's all. They all ended up 50 by now.

But there is still some goal to reach in order to be competitive especially when you are doing mythic progression.

Being 55 at least for the Azshara progression is mandatory and it will probably not take us more than 3 weeks to reach her, so we have 6 weeks to reach this level, meaning we have to do 1 level a week, with AK coming in (we hope) it will be 85k ap per week. It is easily doable without having to dive in a Island farm, but it needs you to actually do all your world quest, at least.

If now we want to take a crucial advantage during progression, we'd might want to reach 55 at week 5 (or 4) and there you are, brainless AP grinding doing Island expedition multiple hours a day.

Comment by tarnin

I looks like they are time gating the necklace really. They don't want maxed out necks and essences in the first month. Look at the huge decrease to 50 and just about every emissary quest giving az power. They pretty much handed you a level 50 neck on a platter. Now they are slowing it down again. I'll bet money that they decrease the amount needed as time goes by.

Comment by speedrain098

So if I'm not 50 yet I will get f****d when the patch hits? Right? Is there any way to power farm from 46 to 50 to avoid the 35K ap spike that will hit me when the patch goes live?

Comment by Haldhur

Because this game needs even more grind, right? I'm really tired of AP grind since Legion where it was first introduced. And they keep making that grind worse and worse going forward...
20 additional artifact levels and only 11 AK levels means you will never get your neck capped unless you grind AP very hardcore.

Not even grinding very hardcore. I made about 120-140k azerite/week before hitting lvl 50 in middle march, and now i will need 2'5 years to hit lvl 70. They will add more AK levels.

There is no difference for the first 50 levels. The 35k spike is from lvl 50->51 so there is no need for you to power farm.

Comment by Panthea

Btw i'm curious about the 85k needed from the actual 50k at launch for level 50 neck. Where did wowhead get this info because currently the amount needed at level 50 on ptr is like 25k

The PTR is a few weeks ahead so has AK applied to it already.

120-140k AP/week and not grinding very hardcore sounds impossible. But we might have different versions of hardcore. Would you care to break it down for me?

Septermber 10 - Here I come!

Comment by Zentris1

It's actually not necessary to grind it at all .

since the beginning of this xpack ppl ask for your neck level if you do anything not LFR/several months after everyones geared.

That's not the right idea we should be having "if you dont like the major system, don't do it" wish there was a middle ground for everyone, and redoing artifact levels and AP grinding was not it. We have been doing this crap for over 3 years now including Legion. It's time to change the curriculum. Now if that means a different form of grind, fine. AP is just not fun, nor rewarding. I hope the neck in 8.2 proves me wrong, but it's just a necklace so it's only gonna carry so much "fun" into the game.

Comment by abris1995

It's actually not necessary to grind it at all .

Comment by Maulis425

Seems like a change to just push the cap higher and higher - I'll continue to do what I've done since Legion, not worry about it and just play the game. When I hit another level I'll do what I do now "Oh, ok, that's nice".

Comment by schmilblick

Still don't understand why since Legion they think it's mandatory to have an artifact grind. It doesn't feel like a game, it feels like a job, something you do because it's a requirement for the rest.

I don't know, everytime I think about this I think back on Wotlk, where gear was the only grind necessary, and it was enough to keep us untertained. The other forms of grind, like the argent turnament, weren't mandatory, they were only there for fun and cosmetic rewards.

Because they want people to stay subbed, so instead of creating good content to keep people playing, they focus on gating boring and worthless content.

Comment by Fixi

Good post, I will do what I did in 8.0 and 8.1 and not grind AP until the multiplier is very high. I don't find value in early grinding, and thankfully there are other things to do.

Comment by slowbi

If you feel like grinding AP is a job then you're either a mythic raider racing for world first or, to put it simply, you're addicted.

Comment by Sarthorius

I still don't understand why there are still people that Grind AP that hard in the game, specially on beginning of patches. With little effort I managed to get almost all my 14 toons to 40-50 AP right now (the first 12 I leveled up in the beginning of the expansion, were at 45+ for a very long time now), by pretty much only doing some Emissaries (avoiding the AP, WR ones), incursions, Warfront of other quick but not so grindy stuff, so I had time to play my main.

If these increase is to discourage AP grind, then DO NOT GRIND, at least not hard (clear all AP WQ, emissaries), do at least one-time stuff like AP from IE per week, some emissaries, etc. You'll already be very busy doing other 8.2 stuff, earning AP from most content already.

Gated stuff? Probably, but it isn't inteded for us to get AP 70 within, let's say, 2-4 months into the patch. Hell, just check Method's Mythic kill and you'll see that most guildies didn't had max AP back then. Things like that aren't mandatory, and sooner or later everyone might get it anyway. Just don't put that into the BfA-Complaining list of stuff ok? Geez.

Comment by Zyrkun

Doing like 4 wqs a day and the island cap every week feels like a job? Your job seems quite easy to me.

Ya, sure, that's all you have to do if you want to hit in a couple weeks before the next patch release, people in raiding guilds are expected to be there months before or they don't have a spot in their or any guild. Keep your idiotic statements to yourself.

Comment by neoslayyer

If haven't maxed out by now then you're not putting much effort to complain about the game.

They are called alts. Why do they have to raise the amount to get lvl 50 when the patch drops to such an INSANE amount? This is saf. Never seem such a load of........

Unreal!

Comment by cassetto

Because at some point something slipped in their head and forgot that players who loves the game will log in and play because they enjoy it. Now they think is mandatory to develop systems targeted to make players feel like they have to log in if they want to keep a certain amount of progress. Might have something to do with shifting the metric from sub numbers to some fancy evaluation of /played.

Or from all the people who complained about 'content drought' in the past, so now there's something to keep them occupied. *shrug*

I mean, it's pretty clear that players DON'T log in just for love of the game. I do. Maybe you do too. But there's a whole bunch who just seem to sub long enough to clear the latest raid or pvp milestone or whatever, then unsub and complain about lack of content.

So, now we have a system that takes longer to 'finish'.

I'm quoting this so much. And it DOES feel like a job. It also feels a waste of time when you quest or do Island Expeditions after you capped. This system is so bad that as you said people are burning out.

Let me also add that for someone like me, who played vanilla, unsubbed on BC launch and came back for BfA, completing Legion, Wod and older expansions I missed really feels like a daily home work of world quests. I literally get home from work around 6pm, play to midnight and all I do is world quests, check my mission tables, my naval mission tables.

It really feels an artificial way for keep people playing on a daily basis, but it's failing HARD.
