Seems to largely be a training/skill up recipe at this point. Of course the server economies are a bit funny this close to the release, with people paying anything for a skill up, but on Silvermoon EU and Maggie EU, the cost of the saronite bars alone (64g) is far higher than the value of the one titanium (30g) bar you'll make.

Be sure to check the price of titanium compared to saronite on your server before you do this, I think doing one transmute probably cost me about 40g gold. As in 8 saronite and 2 cobolt cost more than 1 titanium

The first time I used this at skill lvl 395 I recieved no discovery. I then used it again at 405, since that is the required level for the other transmutes, and I did recieve a new transmute (discovery). This is not a huge sample, but it might be that you need to be 405 or higher in order to learn the new transmutes.

EDIT: It is still a chance to learn a new discovery, but having the required level might be required in order to get that specific discovery.

There is currently a glitch where you can proc more discoveries just making other potions (I'm potion specced so I only make potions, may work with elixirs too) immediately after doing your daily transmute. I discovered 3 additional transmutes yesterday and 4 today. This works even if you didn't discover anything on your initial transmute. Have fun!

While this is certainly true the major reason to do this particular xmute is for the discoveries. Maybe if you're lucky you can get someone to buy xmute. On my server I spent 65g for mats and sold the bar for 75g and learned xmute eternal shadow to eternal life so I can't complain.

Just like the text of the tooltip states, there is a chance to discover a transmute.

I see no reason for the average alchemist to make this transmutation. There is a much cheaper and more efficient way of obtaining Titanium. Get mining and start farming in Icecrown and other high level areas in Northrend.
However if you keep doing this transmutation and eventually discover one of the beneficial ones like Transmute: Eternal Earth to Air. You don't lose the transmute CD to anything else, but it is a very slim gain to do it every 4 days.

I mostly see this as an opportunity for recipe collectors like myself. I have done this one 4 times now and I have discovered 1 transmutation.

EDIT(update for statistics): I have done it 7 times now and still only 1 discovery. I guess I'm just unlucky :)

I was lucky enough for my Titanium transmute to be ready today, so I tried what others have suggested. Between the Titanium transmute and a full stack of 20 elixirs (Mighty Strength), I got 7 new discoveries. Get this one before they fix it!

The fastest and cheapest way I've found to get materials for this transmute plays off other people's greed. ;) I tell them I'll provide the crystallized life (I'm an herbalist) if they give me the metal, and I'll pay them 10-20g if I get a discovery in the process.

Works pretty well!

Anyone know if the new Alchemist stones (Indestructible, Mercurial, Mighty) can be used in place of the Philosopher's stone for the transmutation tool? Or do you need to go back and make the original green one?

Stated many times above that the cooldown will be reduced with patch 3.0.8. Currently that patch is still on the PTR and according to Zarhym (Blizzard poster):

I'm unable to provide a release date for the next minor content patch including these optimizations, but I'd wager it's imminent.

So we will have to wait.

Did 5 transmutes myself and no discovery yet unfortunately.

6th transmute finally learned something...Earth to Air. Been doing earth to air since and every transmute I learned another transmute.

20hours cooldown in new patch.
Had discovery on first try after patch (Eternal Life to Fire) but did not get skillup (yellow recipe/429 skill ).
But I suppose it could have just been bad luck.

Edit: 2nd Transmute gave 2x Bars (Transmute master) & Eternal Water to Fire
No skillup either.

3rd Transmute: Discovered Eternal Air to Water

I have done 4 transmutes now, and have had 4 discoveries. Don´t know if I´ve only been extremely lucky or if the discovery rate has been increased.

As a transmutation master
I just got 40 Saronite Bar from Ah for 90gold, and I transmute them to 1 titanium bar each day.
And i just AH the titanium bar, and the avg price of it is 24gold.

By doing this:
- I can level my alchemy skills
- Dicovering something new
- Get an extra titanium bar (still havn't get any luck from this yet)

You could get more money by helping other people transmute, but if you are lazy like me and don't like to look for a buyer from trade chat, i would say this is a better way.

Did Blizzard every confirmed that different transmutations have different proc rate in transmute mastery?

Now I have a miner toon and I am alchemist on my main. Getting 8 Saronite Bars is easy when doing dailies in Icecrown, so I transmute Titanium every cooldown, leveling my alchemy in this way. In 20 days, I didn't get a single proc as of yet, whereas when xmuting Arcane Bars sometimes, on average of every 4th bar comes with an extra. I know the rules of probability and RNG but 0 out of 20 is a bit fishy for the said 25% proc rate (stated somewhere)

After 3.0.8 the proc rate seems to be much higher, I learned 3-4 transmutes before failing any, although the more you learn, the more you'll fail before discovering all twelve.

This does share a cooldown with all other Eternal transmutes.

Any Alchemist's Stone can be used in place of the Philosopher's Stone

There are 12 possible transmutes to learn, two for each Eternal.

I recieved 7 discoveries from this transmute over the last couple weeks, but most are pretty worthless. I would venture a guess that the discovery chance has been increased, at least for transmutes. Still, "DISCOVERY! You have learned to transmute Eternal Air into Eternal Earth!" Hoo-frickin'-ray for me... I've also gotten x2 procs about 4 out of 10 times, which isn't earth-shattering, but still makes me happy when I see my Xmute mastery wasn't a completely idiotic choice.

I was just asking around on trade about a primal transmute, and a guy told me he learned transmute *primal* mana to fire while transmuting titanium. I didn't think you could learn Burning Crusade transmutes (primals) from doing a WotLK transmute (only eternals, is what I'd have guessed). Has anyone here seen this happen firsthand? I think maybe the guy is remembering incorrectly, or something.

IMO, this transmute is pretty worthless now, especially with the epic gem transmutes now. Either this should be on a separate CD, no CD at all, or possibly make a "few" titanium ores (perhaps 2 or 4?) out of 8 saronite.

Confirmed, as of Patch 3.3.0 Transmute Titanium doesn't have a CD anymore for my lv 450 Alch, haven't tested it on lower level alch's in our guild yet who just started doing this transmute and getting the discoveries.

I just xmuted around 30 bars and had no discoveries! Do I have extremely bad luck, or is likely that they removed the chance to discover xmutes since the CD has been removed? The tooltip still says you have the chance.

As of 3.3.0:

Does not have a cooldown
Does not proc discoveries
Does proc transmutation mastery extras (x2 - x5)
Does provide skillups all the way to 440

I've transmuted over 400 titanium bars on my freshly minted alchemist over the last week or so and have not learned a single discovery this way, so the proc chance is very, very low if not zero. By contrast, every single epic gem transmute has proc'd an elemental transmute discovery. Not that they're useful anymore.

I had just learned how to Transmute: Titanium and had not ever had a discovery. I did 94 in-a-row and didn't get a single discovery. After I trained Transmute: Dreadstone, I got a discovery and have gotten two more each time I've done a transmute.

I've Transmutation Mastery and just created 150 Transmute: Titanium with following outcome:

2x Titanium Bar procs: 18
3x Titanium Bar procs: 1
4x Titanium Bar procs: 2
No discoveries

Conclusion: The tooltip saying: 'You have a chance to discover other transmutations when succesful", is misleading and not true.

Good news.

As of patch 3.3.2 it is possible to learn recipes by transmuting titanium.

But the chance of proc seems to be very, very low: I've had it only once after creating over 100 titanium bars. And the recipe was from TBC.

Since they removed the CD on this baby, it's a godsend to level Alchemy on.

Buy all the saronite ore/bars you can get yer hands on (I pay ~60-80s per ore)
If you don't have Mining, have an alt or friend smelt them to bars
8 bars = 1 titanium bar. They are ~20g a pop right now, sometimes more, sometimes less.

I levelled Alchemy from 395 to 440 and made thousands of gold in the process.

Oh, by the way... not a single discovery. And I'm transmuting a couple dozens of these a DAY.

But right now... stock up on them, don't sell them. When 3.3.3. hits and the CD on Titansteel is removed, I predict that the price of Titanium (and the eternals required) will skyrocket.

I just did 100 of these and got all 12 discoveries, but it took awhile. Got the last one when I did my 88th transmute so I guess that puts it at about a 13-14% chance.

I just love this.

Farming saronite ore is easy in Northrend. However it takes alot of luck to find titanium veins among saronite deposits...

I don't prospect saronite anymore on my JC+BS main rather find titanium ore I can and prospect it and what titanium bars I need for titansteel I transmute from saronite.
