At current, it does not seem to require Engineering skill to use.
Though i sour at the thought of non-engineers benefiting from this, it does stand to reason since it would otherwise require specific profession combinations to use. If only blizz could add some occasional random side effect for using these and let everyone feel what its like to be an engineer. It might even make farming enjoyable!

Engineering in MoP looks really, really fun.

I mean, explosives, tearing the fabric of the universe to shreds, tinkering, etc, are fun, but now we have mobile forges, increased mining, automatic summoners (ahhhhh).

Do Not Equip!

These are amazing for altaholics. Get one pair, mail it betweet alts. Price should be fairly cheap a month after launch, but will pay dividends if you grind the two spirits of harmony on day 1.

I was questing with a friend who was mining (I was herbing). During a break, he gave me a bunch of materials so I could skill up. I made the goggles for him. He was finding something like three times the normal number of nodes. It was also really late at night, so let's factor that in. However, it was a significant change in nodes. I suspect other players cannot see those nodes, thus reducing competition.

We checked the auction house and this looks like a real money maker for engineers. So, engineers, fret not. Make them and make lots of gold.

Does this actually work if it's never been equipped? the effect is on equip, even though it says it'll work while in your bag... can anyone verify that this will work when it's never been equipped, just held in inventory?

I just spent 600g to test these out with herbalism. Within an hour I decided that I will never again farm herbs or ore without this item in my bag. It made a wonderful difference in the amount I was able to farm in a specific time frame when competing with other farmers - which is when I seemed to see more "hidden" nodes compared to farming when no one was around & saw very few.

Here are a few clarifications for anyone who may be skeptical about creating, buying or selling this fun little bauble.

Nodes do show up on your mini map when tracking is enabled.
As many have mentioned, you do not have to equip this item to utilize it's special benefit.
The "hidden" nodes do not have special spawn points of their own. They can be found anywhere & everywhere that any regular node appears. In terms of location there is no difference between hidden & visible nodes.
The visual difference is obvious, but should not have any affect on your ability to locate them. The "hidden" ones are just wrapped in a little cloud of mist while the regular ones are not. (screenshot submitted in the event you'd like to see the cloud wrapped herb ahead of time).
Using Gatherer/Gathermate2 will still help guide you to all the usual spawn locations.
No need to deviate from your typical farming habits to benefit from this. You don't need to do anything special other than put it in your bag. It's pretty much business as usual, you'll just have a bit of extra business.
