EDIT: So almost immediately after the patch came out I quit for 9 months, and now this post is very outdated. Wowhead has a guide (viewable here) that far outclasses my comment. If you are looking for relevant information regarding the legendary questline, you will find it there.

If you did the 5.0 questline with Wrathion, prepare to see something familiar.

First, Wrathion asks you to talk to him... Upstairs. Presumably after yammering on about the fate of Azeroth blah blah, he directs you to the first real meat of the questline: killing things!
Here, you have to reach Exalted with The Black (artist currently known as) Prince for I Need A Champion (tenuous Footloose jokes optional) by killing hostile mobs on the Isle of Thunder.
Alongside this quest, you get Secrets of the First Empire wherein you have to collect Secrets of the Empire in the Throne of Thunder.
Are we good? Good. Now comes the next part, which depends on how the 5.2 content is gated. Eventually, an area called the Lightning Forge will be unlocked for a quest called The Lightning Forge. Wrathion tells you to meet him at this area and suggests being ready for a fight, so my guess is stuff goes down (this isn't available just yet!) and you have to fight and kill some guys. You've handled the last 14 raid tiers, I'm sure this is no threat.

The rest... isn't really mapped out yet. The quests have been datamined and are in Wowhead, but it's just guesswork as to what goes where. There is a quest to kill guys and collect Titan Runestones for the quest Echoes of the Titans, which reminds me of another legendary quest altogether. (They use the same icon!)

Additionally, you have to kill the Thunder King (call him Bill) for Heart of the Thunder King. That part is speculation, but perhaps you can see why I think that. Spirit of the Storm Lord and A Reckoning aren't developed yet, so who knows where they go?

The Crown of Heaven is the last quest, which rewards a ~~helm enchant~~ legendary META GEM which benefits your class less than any other class, and you should probably ask Blizzard for some buffs. Again, I could be wrong, but then I'd be out a shoe and up a meal.

The long and short of this is that you should probably start farming Trillium (or Ghost Iron for the transmute) now, because when the patch hits? Oh boy.

These are not dropped by the boss. They are just like the sigils in that they are given when you kill the boss immediately. This is confirmed after killing Magaera and the chest comes out so not everyone can loot at once. I did not loot it, and received it.

And yes, these do drop in LFR.

Are these limited to 1 drop per boss per week like the Shadow Pan Assault rep is (I.E. Shadow-Pan Assault rep only awards once per boss no matter the mode)?

E.G. If I kill Jin'rokh the breaker on LFR, then I can't get a Secret from him on normal/heroic?

Since I've only done one week, I don't have enough data to come to a reasonable conclusion myself, but my entire 25man raid that did LFR on Tuesday last week did not get any secrets from the first 3 bosses on Normal Mode.

Clarifications on this droprate from Daxxarri:

Everyone has a personal chance to receive a 帝國秘史 drop on Normal/Heroic; the quest loot functions the same way that the Raid Finder version of the Legendary quest did prior to 5.2.

We wanted to have a single shared chance per boss per week because we'd prefer to avoid making raiders who are killing bosses on non-Raid Finder runs to feel obligated to do Raid Finder specifically for Legendary quest drops. If those players want to do it for Valor or off-spec gear, that’s great, but doing Raid Finder shouldn’t be necessary for optimal Legendary acquisition.

I have a question on these..hopefully someone might know the answer. I have ran Throne Of Thunder on the 2 parts of LFR now live. My 1st week...I got 2 of them,,,2nd week,,I got 1. I just ran both parts of the Lfr this week and didn't get none. Is it possible to run the Lfr again and get or more? Even though I have ran Lfr & looted the bosses already? After reading these comments it seems that I have simply abysmal luck. A total of 16 boss kills since release (not counting duplicates) have netted me 1 Secret. If I keep obtaining secrets at this rate it'll take me 260 boss kills to obtain all 20, assuming I'd be able to completely clear ToT each week (which I can't) it'd take me 22 weeks to complete this first step.

The dropchance of these is totally rng.

On my hunter i have a total of 52 boss kills lfr+normal+heroic and i got 17 while a priest with the same amount of kills only got 4.

Meanwhile my monk that has only killed lfr bosses+2 normal got 4.

As noted, you only have a chance at one of these the first time you kill a boss that week on any difficulty. I've made sure to cover every boss on LFR if I didn't down it on normal. So far I've killed 3+6+6+9+9+9 bosses (have to do 3rd wing of LFR this week yet) giving me 42 boss kills. I have 12 secrets, for a personal drop rate of some 28.6%. Comparing myself to similar guildies I seem to be a little ahead on luck, best guess is an actual drop rate around 20-25%. On an average full clear week, you'd expect 2-4.

For what it's worth, I got my 20th after my 65th total boss kill (combining both LFR and regular bosses), which works out to about a 30% drop rate. Would be interesting for others to post their results (you can look at your Armory profile to count the total number of kills) and maybe we can formulate some kind of rough drop rate.

issue that i have with this quest is if you were late to get 20 before nalak stage opened you will always be behind on everything. for example you might still be on secrets while someone already has their gem and is collecting runestones , by the time 5.3 comes some of the people will already complete runestones and the heart of the thunder king and will be on 600ilvl cloak quest , while you will most likely still be somewhere around the midle of the runestone quest. basically depending on how your luck was on the first quest you're gonna get meta gem / 600ilvl cloak perhaps even 3 weeks after some people. it's just not fair.

For any who are wondering, it is okay to delete any extras that you have after completing the quest. I had one extra 帝國秘史 in my bags after completing the quest, so I opened a ticket and a GM told me it was safe to delete. Good luck on your march to 20, the reward is well worth it!

2 lockouts LFR, WITH mogu runes on character = NO DROP.
2 other LFR lockouts, WITHOUT mogu runes = 6 DROPS.

Drop rate has possibly increased in 5.3 along with the other buffs to the quest chain. I ran the full 12 LFR bosses and received 6 which may just be luck as this is the first day of 5.3 content. Unfortunately not lucky enough as I needed 7, but can I really complain? EDIT - After further inspection, RNG was on my side, sorry guys!

On my shaman I got 4 from my first week and then another 4 the second week and on my last week I got one off every single boss. Is it a 100% now or am I just lucky? I got them relatively fast on my mage (3 weeks) so I probably am just lucky. Anyone experiencing the same?

For those who want to keep one for what ever reason, de-stacking these work (turning in the Quest with 12 in one stack and 1 in a separate stack.) Turning this in with all 13+ in the same stack will remove the whole stack. (Confirmed by 2 guild mates.)

I did this quest on two separate characters simultaneously and entirely in LFR. I am always interested in drop rates outside of people saying, "I dropped for me the first time!" So I made an effort to record how many secrets I received per week.

Character 1:

Week 1 - 3/12 (3 Secrets total)
Week 2 - 7/12 (10 Secrets total)
Week 3 - 4/12 (14 Secrets total)
Week 4 - 6/10 (20 Secrets total)

Character 2:

Week 1 - 3/9 (3 Secrets total)
Week 2 - 7/12 (10 Secrets total)
Week 3 - 3/12 (13 Secrets total)
Week 4 - 4/12 (17 Secrets total)
Week 5 - 3/10 (20 Secrets total)

At first I thought that the drop rate would be about equal, 3 then 7 then 3 and then 7; to be done in about 4 weeks. Character 2 didn't fare so well and spent almost an entire LFR lockout on the last 3 secrets. Needless to say, character 1 is ahead on the Titan Runestone quest by now. >.<

I found out that this quest is Loot Over Time, so if you kill 2 bosses every day, you get more chance of loot and lei shen is 100% drop.

I got 6 of them this week, doing 1 wing a day. (or they increased drop chance rate)

Yes, the drop chance is shared between regular and LFR boss...i.e. if you kill the boss in regular mode, you cannot get a secret off the same boss in LFR.

However, if you extend a lockout from a previous week, the bosses you killed in that previous week's lockout will not exclude the drop for secrets in LFR off those same bosses.

I have a question that some may deem as dumb... You never know till you ask, I guess...

I have not been able to get into the Reg or Heroic runs. Due to my time that I have to play, I am stuck in LFR... If 1 of these secrets drop off of lets say Tortos... Then the other 2 bosses do not drop one... Can I rerun that LFR and hope that one drops off the other bosses that did not drop previously?

I have a question. I cleared LFR throne of thunder last night. I am about to get my quest legendary quest chain to a point where i can start collecting Secrets of the Empire. Since the quest is now active can i go through LFR again and have a chance for these to drop? I was told that this is possible since that instance may recongiize the run for the quest as a fresh run. I know loot wont drop but i am just wondering if i can receive Secrets of the Empire.

Secrets of the Empire, along with Titan Runestones, will be able to drop from the first 8 bosses of the Siege of Orgrimmar for those that are currently on the quest when the patch goes live. For those wondering, it's from Immerseus up to and including the General Nazgrim.

I planned my black prince quests out, and here is my experience.

I was on my 3rd week of Test of Valor, did all the other raids and dungeons, except ToT for my valor points, but I was still a bit short on valor points to complete the quest.
I read that Lei Shen has a 100% chance of dropping the Secrets of the Empire, so I went to do Pinnacle of Storms part of ToT to gather the last of my valors.

After that was completed, I went and did the the battlegrounds quests etc, up until Secrets of the Empire.

Went in last wing of ToT again, nothing dropped, not even Lei Shen.

I guess if you're planning out your black prince quests like me, do not kill any bosses in ToT on the week that you think you will receive the Secrets of the Empire quest to maximize your chances.

Just to inform you guys. No you cannot collect these items by defeating a boss you had already done that week, if done before picking up the quest. I have tried this and hasn't worked on lfr ToT 4th leg.

Bit of a pain for me, so please if you are nearing this quest for the week try to save your lfr ToT runs for after doing the previous quest.

I really felt I would be done this week with the amount of bosses I killed and previous drop rates.

Week 1 : 7 shards looted from 12 lfr tot bosses killed (patch 5.3)
Week 2 : 7 shards looted from 12 lfr tor bosses killed (patch 5.3)
Week 3 : only 2 shards looted from 15 bosses! (Patch 5.4) 12 lfr tot bosses and 3 normal siege of org bosses killed. And one of them was guaranteed lei shen!

How disappointing. They must have nerfed the drop rate post 5.4

Update: got one more from sha of pride. So 3 total from 16 bosses.

Update 2 : I got another from general nazgrim. But got up to siegecrafter blackfuse. That makes 4 from 22 bosses. 12 tot bosses and 10 normal siege of org bosses killed.

It drops from the SoO's bosses, and either I'm lucky, or the droprate is significantly higher than on ToT's bosses. I got 8 of them killing 24 ToT bosses (1 for each part), and I got 6 out of 8 SoO bosses...

I guess Blizzard decided to speed up the quests for people who haven't achieved it yet.

Edit : only drops from the 8 first SoO's bosses.

I dont know if this is a confirmation or just bad luck but here goes...

I got this quest today. I had already completed the ToT based LFR runs. I just completed them for a second time in hopes they would have some ot the secrets drop. Not a single secret dropped for these. It appears that these secrets are tied to wether or not you have looted the boss for the week already or not. so you cannot just farm them by repeating LFR runs.

The drop rate seems to be the same post-5.4, with the addition that they also drop from the first two wings in SoO which is another 8 chances at looting it per week.

So far my drops are:

Week 1: 0 from 11 bosses, + Lei Shen 100% drop.
Week 2: 1 from 15 bosses, + Lei Shen 100% drop + Sha of Pride 100% drop.
Week 3: 3 from 19 bosses, + Lei Shen 100% drop + Sha of Pride 100% drop.
Week 4: 5 from 19 bosses, + Lei Shen 100% drop + Sha of Pride 100% drop.
Week 5: 2 from 12 bosses, + Lei Shen 100% drop.

I started farming for secrets the week before 5.4 hit. The first week was a full LFR ToT clear, the second week was LFR ToT + first wing of SoO and the third week was LFR ToT + the first and second wing of SoO.

One thing I've noticed was that so far the last boss of each wing in SoO has given me a secret (Sha of Pride and General Nazgrim). Need more data to confirm if they are also guaranteed to drop one like Lei Shen.

Edit: The Sha of Pride from the first wing of SoO does indeed have a 100% drop rate for Secrets.

Lil question, as i raid with my guild i already did the SoO bosses this week on normal on wednesday, and cleared all on flex, i just received the quest to go get the shards.

If i go too lfr SoO the first 2 wings this week, can i still get shards there or is the lock for one kill per week across all difficulties.

I suppose i cant get them.

then another question does bonus rolling work ? since you can buy the mogu runes of fate on timless isle, you could get double roll on all bosses in tot ?

and is there a diffrent drop rater for say normal tot bosses or hc tot the same bosses ?

Confirmed by a GM right now (Patch 5.4)
You'll have a chance to loot those just 1 time a week from each boss regardeless if you are doing LFR, FLEX, Normal or HC so you can farm those with LFR or in Normal if you're a raider.(##RESPBREAK##)524##DELIM##thaia##DELIM##

I'd like to confirm the 帝國秘史 item drops 100% from:

-Vale of Eternal Sorrows - 傲慢之煞.
-Throne of Thunder - 雷神.

Week 1 - 2x 帝國秘史 Havent been seriously doing this quest till two weeks ago. (10%)
Week 2 - 8x 帝國秘史 That's alot! Maby i've been off this quest for like 2-3 months. (40%)
Week 3 - 4x 帝國秘史 Thought i was goin 20 =( (20%)
Week 4 - 6x 帝國秘史 Finally! (30%)

Just finished the quest had to do follow up quest. Pierced a lance trough Nalak and now got my Legendary Meta Gem! =D

They drop from all bosses in Throne of Thunder and the wings from Siege of Orgrimmar (Vale of Eternal Sorrows and Gate of Retribution).

(Only 1x 帝國秘史 per boss doesn't matter what difficulty.)

Just completed 初代帝國秘史 and thought I would share my results. (5.4.2)

All done on LFR difficulty...

Week 1: 帝國秘史 x5 and FOUR epic drops, across all ToT bosses and the first SIX SoO bosses.
Week 2: 帝國秘史 x5 and SIX epic drops, across all ToT bosses and the first SIX SoO bosses.
Week 3: 帝國秘史 x9 and THREE epic drops, across all ToT bosses and the first SIX SoO bosses.
Week 4: 帝國秘史 x1 and TWO epic drops, across the first TWO wings of ToT.

Which has me set up nicely for as the 泰坦符石s only drop off the last 6 bosses of ToT and the first 8 of SoO.

You can loot these without looting a boss though.. :)

I was locked out of Primordius's battleground for not being there in time.

For those who, like me, don't enjoy raiding and don't necessarily know, you can queue for the following Raids in LFR (full runs--go ahead and re-queue if you get in mid-raid and do whatever bosses you have missed) once each week to get Secrets. (I checked the WOWHEAD stats and am listing number of bosses that they show drop Secrets, next to each. This is not from personal experience.)

Throne of Thunder raids:
Last Stand of the Zandalari (three bosses)
Forgotten Depths (three bosses)
Halls of Flesh-shaping (three bosses)
Pinnacle of Storms (three bosses*)

Siege of Orgrimmar raids:
Vale of Eternal Sorrows (one boss or maybe two*)
Gates of Retribution (three bosses)

* I have read or been told that Lei Shen (Pinnacle of Storms) is a guaranteed Secrets drop, and I see in another comment that someone said that Sha of Pride (Vale of Eternal Sorrows) is as well. I don't see the numbers bearing that out in WOWhead stats, but if it's true, it might be worth it to run at least those two raids, each week.

I could not find this information-- lists of what you actually queue for-- anywhere, so I looked it up and thought maybe someone else would benefit from it. (Just saying that these drop from "Throne of Thunder" and "Siege of Orgrimmar" bosses doesn't mean anything to non-raiders. You can't queue for either of those titles-- just the subtitles beneath them-- in LFR.)

Just as a note for the repeatable bosses (LFR and Flex). If you complete a wing of flex or LFR earlier in the week and then pick up the quest, you CANNOT get a secret from running those bosses again. Tested this with LFR wing 1 of SoO.

There was also clarification on the wow forums recently on the 100% drop rate from Lei-Shen and/or Sha of Pride. Your 100% drop rate only applies to one of them. Yeah. So you are guaranteed 1 per week, not 1 from each boss.

I received this quest late in the week after i had completed wings 1, 2, 3 in Flex. I received a Secrets of the Empire from the Sha of Pride even though i had already downed him. I did not receive another from any other of the 7 first bosses in SoO.

I had quite some luck getting these last week. Actually got ten of them in one week in LFRs. This week, 3 LFRs now, thus far I've gotten 1. Yey!

As a few have said, the droprate has been increased. I got 9 the first week, 9 the second week. If you go into the 3rd week just short, remember the first 6 bosses in ToT DO NOT DROP TITAN RUNESTONES. Do these first, and if you get what you need, you'll still have all 14 bosses that drop the Runestones available to you.

Just got the quest for Secrets... Hadnt run any ToT at all this week... Killed 5 ToT bosses today - Not one Secrets drop.. Am I doing something wrong? Am I supposed to click on the boss' corpse to get one of these Secrets?

Kind of alarmed at going 0 for 5 especially after all of these posts that say the droprate has been increased.

I wonder if the drop rate decreases with the number of alts doing this quest. They dropped pretty regularly on my main, but now on my third alt the drop rate is horrendous. I've gotten 6 in 3 weeks.

Question: I only found out I could run the boss as many times as it took to drop by monday - and by now I have a handful of these. Is there a way to find out what bosses actually dropped the tablets?

You will only receive ONE of these from each boss, each week. It does not matter which difficulty you are on! Since you can do the entire Throne of Thunder run, and the first 2 wings of Siege of Orgrimmar, you have 20 chances each week for a drop of this item. :)

Here's an update on a possible drop. I am currently completing the quest as we speak:
Week 1: 6 secrets of the empire
Week 2: 8 secrets of the empire
Week 3: (Next week) unknown, but only 6 more are needed to finish.

5.4.8 The Secrets of the Empire drops in ToT and SoO too on LFR, Normal, Flex and HC. the drop chance by wowhead is too low i think, because i've got 8 in full ToT and SoO clear.

Random little add on but you can get these without looting boss if you are near for kill. I was locked out of Primordious and got one of these even though i didn't get loot from the boss.

i picked up my secrets quest after i got my 3k valor tuesday and i had already cleared Soo lfr , so can i go back in to soo lfr and get a chance at secrets?

I am not sure whether blizz has increased the drop-rate or is it my sheer luck, I have collected 10 x 帝國秘史 on my first week of the quest 初代帝國秘史 from full ToT clear and SoO first 2 wings. That too without Gaze of the black prince buff.

People have complained that the drop rates listed in the chart above are incorrect.

It should be noted that the chart DOES NOT SAY that these are the drop rates for ELIGIBLE PLAYERS ONLY.

Obviously a lot of players who kill each boss do not have even currently have the quest!
Therefore you should pay more attention to what has been said here in comments rather than in the automatically generated drop table above.

Btw... Took me about 4-5 weeks under normal conditions a few months ago.

During the enhanced drop-rate promo weeks, an alt got a total of 16 during
those two weeks; a small statistical sample implying that the promo was
about double drop chance for the non-100% bosses.

These have the potential to drop off of every boss in Throne of Thunder as well as the first EIGHT bosses of Siege.

I was looking for this information the other day and noticed it was not here. So here it is for everyone else.

Okay, so I've done this now 7 times, so I thought I'd share some insight and some collection rates so people can get an idea of what to expect. Unfortunately the purity of my data is altered due to the 黑龍王子的凝視 buff and its lovely increased drop rates. I hope that by providing this information you are at least able to see some contrast between how random unbuffed drops are and how buffed they really can be, even with luck playing such a huge role.

On my first cloak I actually didn't record the drop rates for anything so that information is excluded from this list.

I'd like to confirm that you cannot loot 泰坦符石 from a boss after downing it for 帝國秘史 in the same week, regardless of difficulty. You can, however, loot the Heart of the Thunder King from Lei Shen from him the same week that you loot your last 泰坦符石.

And lastly, unlike the valor required for , you can farm up the 5k Timeless Coins before receiving the quest to do so, and I highly recommend that you do. Once you get your last 泰坦符石 you're really just a hop-skip-and-a-jump from your cloak. Also do not waste valor upgrading the epic cloak; once it becomes legendary it will automatically be at 2/4 upgrades so you will literally be wasting 500 vp. Save your valor and take it from 2/4 to 4/4.

Also:
帝國秘史 Drop in ALL wings in ToT (and Ra-den if you're doing heroic) and the first TWO wings of SoO.
泰坦符石 Drop in the LAST two wings of ToT and the FIRST two wings in SoO.

" Rewriting this to make it clearer with how drops for Wrathion's Legendary drops work in Patch 5.4.

The chance for the item to drop is one attempt per eligible boss, per week across all difficulties.
The chance for the item to drop is the same regardless of difficulty mode.
Lei Shen and Sha of Pride are 100% guaranteed to drop the item that you need.
- Note: If you have already obtained a drop for a different item earlier in the week such as Secrets of the Empire, they will not drop a Titan Runestone if they are defeated again in the same week.

For The Strength of One's Foes where you collect 10xSigil of Power and 10xSigil of Wisdom they can drop from bosses in the following locations:

Mogu'shan Vaults
Heart of Fear
Terrace of Endless Spring
Throne of Thunder
Siege of Orgrimmar (only the first 2 wings)
- Vale of Eternal Sorrows
- Gates of Retribution

For Secrets of the First Empire where you collect 20xSecrets of the Empire, it can drop from bosses in the following locations:

Throne of Thunder
Siege of Orgrimmar (only the first 2 wings)
- Vale of Eternal Sorrows
- Gates of Retribution

For Echoes of the Titans where you collect 12xTitan Runestone. The item can drop from:

Throne of Thunder (only wings 3 and 4)
- Halls of Flesh-Shaping
- Pinnacle of Storms
Siege of Orgrimmar (only the first 2 wings)
- Vale of Eternal Sorrows
- Gates of Retribution"

I've been reading around on drop rates without the Gaze of the Black Prince buff, and most people seem to suggest the drop rate is around 20% for Secrets of the Empire.

Has anyone received any secrets since the Gaze bonus expired August 25, 2014?

With two toons I've done 7 raids, about 17 bosses (some raids were in progress when joined) and have ZERO drops.
Know of someone else with zero drops in 12 bosses.

Read a lot of comments and didn't find this info (even if we are 2 months away from WoD): If you do a mode without the quest and then come back to that mode with the quest You won't receive any Secrets.
For example (just to clarify): You did SoO LFR, Flex and Normal without the quest, you won't receive any Secrets that week after picking the quest and running again the raid.
