Well, the black ones dont suck, and the shoulders are great for hunters up till beaststalker, but they're only marginally better than other drops. On my server (skullcrusher) I cant give these away... literally... I am in a mid sized guild and have surplus scales. in 3 months of having all 3 patterns only a single person has accepted a piece. I'd suspect lots of hunters would make and wear these if the components for making them werent absurd. I'm not going to farm black dragonscales for 5-10 hrs just for a 3g profit... which is about all anyone's getting atm at the AH. I'll continue sulking about the hunter shafting on dragonscale for another month or so... but if something doesnt change by then I'm retraining.

For those of you who have finished the specialisation how benficial is attack power vs agility for ranged attack. I'd love to hear some opinions as I am at lvl 45 and have begun farming scales to finish quest but the fact that all the other dragon gear is for Shamans and that i will be buying Monkey mail till 55 or so is it worth the grind to get to making the Black Dragon armour. I like killing dragons most of all so I would like that fire resist. Any info would be gr8ly appreciated.

I think you guys are forgeting the coolest thing about these... they look friggin AWESOME! I get compliments every days about how cool i look in my full black ds set (not the boots yet of course). It's great to hold in the bank for MC runs, and to strut around if in other than that beast/dragonstalker armor blows this set away.

I happen to think this armor is the coolest looking armor there is. it looks so evil and gothic :) grab a peacemaker polearm from baron, throw a fiery enchant on it. get a a fire helm (ya i know it's leather but it's cool) and you look like some evil devil villian it's awesome! :P

How come evryone talks only of ranged attack, as long as I can keep somone at range I can kill them without that extra 0.5% crit chance. as for dodge? I'd rather have 162 attack power than 1% dodge.

Sigh... obviously this set is made for use against Fire Damage Raid Bosses. It has perfect stats for those encounters. For everything else, just use other gear.

I would use tunic/legs/shoulder on my hunter untill MC gear. 144 atp/2% crit/1% hit/25 stamina/31 fr.. That's not too shabby.

This equip is quite good for fighting Ragnaros.

With the classtrinket from Diremaul, the Onyxia amulet and the ring from the Hydraxxis in Azshara after doin' some quests for them in Molten Core you get up to 105 fire resistance unbuffed and not added other fire resistnaces you may get from 2nd ring, or items which don't use the slot this set does.

So... nice hunter ragnaros set (presumed that you have all four items).

For those of you saying this set sucks, think of it this way. Some people, like me, have horrible luck on getting their Earthfury set. Ragnaros' attacks are all fire based. If you don't have enough FR, you're !@#$ed. So this set is great for any hunter or shaman that can't get their teir 1's, and run MC a lot

legs shoulders and chest piece.
they fight specific gear that i only wear in certain high end instance battles where fire resist can save your life.

the rest of the time I wear my DM hunter gear.

I think any hutner that wears any of this full time should definatly rethink their plans.

If you have the money, or the time to collect the Black Dragonscale and the rest of the mats, if you are a skinner of course, then this set is a must for hunters.. Why? MC. You get a lot of fire resist from this set, and it REALLY helps out. Besides that, every peice gives you a nice amount of + attack power, which is very helpful and essential to all hunters.

If you collect the set, you will benefit greatly from it. Go get it!

This set is really a getting-ready-for-MC set for hunters. Yeah - the +attack power is dwarfed by +agility. But then, how many rare armor pieces with 55+ level requirements do you see floating around with +FR stats?

I know for sure that you guys don't care, but I've been looking around for some nice gear for my hunter and I couldn't help thinking about using the complete Gladiator set, these shoulders and the Beaststalker Bindings and Belt together... only instance you're farming is the Ring of Law in BRD but its more than decent gear at lvl 55 if you ask me :)

Anyone who has ever come up against a fire mage knows how hard they hit if you have no resistance gear. Given that the lower lvl PVP armor sets have no resilience on them and no resistances, they do precious little to mitigate magic damage. It's not a bad idea to invest in some decent resistance PVP gear if u have a twink, and as few ppl are still running the 40mans, this is the best FR set you'll probably see till 70.

Truely this is a very good set it has stamina, resist and attack power, which counts for damage with ranged and melee. its mail so hunters can use and its just perfect. to tell the the truth attack power is pretty much agility. the armor also sells very well on the ah cus of stats for mc and cus of just the look

I paid 40g for these today. I was replacing Masterwork Pauldrons of the Falcon (+13agi +14int) and wound up gaining approximately 1 point ranged dps and 2 points melee dps. I lost 13 armor points, 210 mana, .25% off my crit chance and . . . 40g ><. I had planned on getting the whole set eventually but looking at this, it just doesn't seem worth it at all. The agi and int I'd lose by getting this whole set would be enormous. I don't think the set bonus will make up for it either. I'd be giving up 60 more points of agi if I got the rest of the set. Add that to the cost/time of getting the set and it just really sucks alot of the goodness out of that new set bonus for me.

The black dragonscale set has a lot of fire resist. That's useful for Molten Core, Onyxia, Blackrock Depths, and any PvP involving mages or warlocks.

The fire resist is the reason why the rest of the stats are not spectacular. Note that even without counting the resist, the stats are not bad.

i would wear this over beaststalker without doubt now.
First off all, this has more ranged attack power than beaststalker would add:

BS pants: 26 agi= 52RAP(Black dragonscale legs adds 54)
BS mantle: 11 agi= 22RAP (Black ds shoulders add 40)
BS tunic: 21 agi=42 RAP (Black ds BP adds 50)
The boots is the only part where BS wins in therms of RAP: BS boots give 42 and Black DS boots give 28.

Note that AP,unlike agi, doesnt give crit%, but these new set bonuses totally make up for that

not to mention it looks waaaaayy better than beaststalker :D

I noticed when I switch out the BD shoulders with non-fire resist shoulders, the difference in resist is only 2, not 6. Is this a bug or what?

I have Shoulders, Breastplate, and Leggings. Set bonus for 2= +1% chance to hit, set bonus for 3= +2% chance to crit. Anyone know for all 4 pieces? I want to know if I should go work for TB rep.

it's a shame that if you decide to go down the Dragon scale tree as Alliance, that the gear is CRAP! it's all based towards shamans. Such a waste as a hunter and nothing can be made with any sort of usefull stat unless I want attack power... I WANT SOMETHING WITH AGIL THAT CAN BE MAID IN THIS TREE BLIZZARD!

As a Fury warrior going in to BWL( or before ) you might want to obtain these 3 following set items.

Stats from all 3 set items combined, 2 set and 3 set bonus included.
