This is an interesting trinket, because though it is not obvious at first, it does start an as yet incomplete questline involving the green dragon Eranikus.

Whenever you "use" the trinket, as well as casting the above mentioned poison cloud, you also get rather irrate whispers from Eranikus himself. Pay attention to your chat logs. The messages will pop up there. After he gripes at you for a few times (you might have to use the item several times), he'll mention a friend he has in the Swamp of Sorrows named Itharius.

When you take the trinket to him, he'll give you a new quest, but you'll have to give him the chained essence.

However, not too far after that, when you get to the next questgiver Itharius points you to, the quest dead ends. You lose the trinket, get some gold and exp, and no clue or additional quests to continue the chain.

Tickets sent to the GMs have gotten responses that the quest is working as intended, so it's been commonly accepted that the questline is unfinished. Whether or not it will be completed, though, remains to be seen, as the dragon Eranikus is able to be summoned, fought, and cleansed in the AQ scepter questline, which has nothing to do with this trinket.

This trinket rocks for PvP. Turning it in for an incomplete quest line? Screw that! Wear it and use it. Much more worthwhile than getting nothing.

Another use for this in BGs to farm honor kills is to just run into a huge mob and punch this thing. Admittedly its kinda cheap, but it does the job.

It also helps a little if you have no other AOEs and you think that a rogue might be sneaking up behind you. The trouble with that is that you won't find out until the poison cloud decloaks them, and you could easily have been stunlocked by then. Rogues are lucky the only DOT that nukes has a fairly long castbar.

I got this for my prot pally and I must say this is a MUST HAVE for AoE grinding in the 50's.

Using this at sorrow hill it lets me take down a pack of 12+ mobs in half the time and because its only mobs within range instead of a set number(like most items) you can use it on however many you have pulled.

I can imagine using this till low to mid 60's as 450 damage past that isn't worth it.

I still use this as a 70 rogue, I just run in a middle of a pack from the opposing faction while they're fighting and use it :)
Then hopefully if no one notices me I just run out and hide behind a tree throwing a weapon once every 5 secs or so to make sure i stay in combat.

I discovered something awesome for enhancement shamans.. This trinket gets the bonus naturedamage from Stormstrike, but the ticks DO NOT take Stormstrike off! Instead of 50 nature damage, it ticks for 60 nature damage each tick and Stormstrike will remain till the end. Don't hesitate getting this for your shaman, its awesome! :)

So, apparently in Wrath, the remaining Dragon Flights band together to stop crazy ol' Malygos' crusade against mortal magic users. Eranikus' old friend Itharius moves to Northrend, but whether or not this quest will continue is still up in the air. I doubt Blizzard will have Itharius in two places at once, but there's a lot of potential to be had here...

It would be pretty awesome if players could ally themselves with a dragonflight before even hitting 60. As an altaholic, it's kind of irritating seeing more and more epic content shift toward the endgame.

The Chained Essence of Eranikus needs a "Missing Diplomat"-like overhaul.

As for having 2 NPC's in one place isn't too uncommon. i.e Itharius. There is Chromie in the Ruins of Andoral and in the Temple in Dragonblight at the same time.

Hang onto this, you need it if you ever (for completionist purposes or whatever, since there's not a great reward) want to do The Essence of Eranikus. I submitted a petition to a GM to try to get mine back (I vendored it when I was desperate for bag space and thought it was worthless) and their e-mail reply told my they were sorry they "couldn't verify my loss," and couldn't give it back.

Eranikus, Tyrant of the Dream, is wholly consumed by the Light of Elune. Tranquility sets over in the Moonglade.

Perhaps this quest chain continues as a seasonal event.

lol - it sure does.

i have been leveling new tunes for fun and, taking advantage of the cross-realm LFD tool, i have been doing instances and dungeons that i never really bothered to do before b/c i was steamrolling my way to 60, 70, 80... but i have to say that i'm sorry i never fully explored the dungeon systems before - they really are great fun especially pre bc endgame stuff - and certainly a WAY more fun way to level an alt... maybe questing is still faster but instaQ for heals and tank make it close enough that it's worth doing as many dungeons as you can.

besides - you can only kill bellygrub so many times, you know?

anyway tl;dr - i love this trinket in all it's bunny glory.

It's actually better than the new one (伊蘭尼庫斯之影精華) by one whole point of haste! ~~Plus with this old one you get all of Eranikus' ramblings about not using his soul as a trinket! The new one doesn't talk to you.~~ The new one now talks to you too.

Shame this one is no longer available, but for those that already had it, grats on an awesome trinket!

Just a note, if you have the old one still, you can have both the old and new one. It's a nice haste bonus for just about any class, and gives you two uses for the AoE.

I had the 伊瑟拉巨龍軍團的誓言石 in my bank still, so I decided to see if I could still take 伊蘭尼庫斯精華. I was able to accept it, but when I then abandoned it, the Oathstone disappeared. I guess I'm done! At least I still have the 被禁錮的伊蘭尼庫斯精華, and some 哈剌戰鬥徽章 to look like the former in my bank.

According to the modelviewer, Eranikus' soul is transformed into a rabbit to fit inside the trinket. That trully is eternal torture. I feel bad for keeping him trapped inside the trinket, sitting in my bank for 3 expansions now :(

The quest to turn in the trinket is bugged and you end up just losing the trinket! Read up on the quest before you continue!

when you see that global message that means
the REAL Eranikus has been summoned...

The real Eranikus spawns in MOONGLADE
and he is a hardcore boss used in part
of the AQ quest.

I LOVE this trinket! on my 60 pally if its cooled down, i use it on what ever comes twardes me. its murdered vancleef, left hoards of Scarlet crusaders, and really stunk up the place in dire maul. untill the quest is fixed, im NEVER getting rid of it unless the reward is better

It is really useful in PvP, mostly in AV, I use divine shield, run into a group of hordes use the trinket and consecration to make them back off. Then I just change trinket and use it again when cooldown is 0.

Use this in AB while defending the flag. PWNAGE!

It makes all innocent players turn into those disgusting ghouls in Scholomance. You know those, the ones that make priests yell: "GET THE !@#$ out of the fart!" And then the rogue dies and yells "HEAL?" and then the priest yells: "GET OUT OF THE GAS YOU #$%^ing N00B" and then the tank yells: "that's it, I'm out. I'm going back to stratholme"

Think what that might be like in PvP...

OMG this is the best trinket ever, from my name u can prolly tell i'm a druid, but what i do is go to AV, stealth as close to the alli group as i can, then when sum1 finally sees me i come out of stealth in cat form and use dash so i'm going at over 160% speed since i'm feral, and use this trinket on all the healers in the back. after that i usually get pwned, but is hella funny cuz the healers in back don't know if they should heal themselves or the tanks, and the tanks up front are wondering wtf happened to their heals. A LOT of HK's usually follow on my screen. :)

After I read all the comments regarding this item I decided to do a little test. I use the item while been beside another player (not in combat) and see if the poison will affects everybody surrounding me (including myself). The poison didn't affect both of us. Instead, I get hurted by a different source. I say that because when I get attacked with spells and poison and I do not get hurt, the messague resist appears over my picture, but this time when I didn't get hurt the messague dodge appear. I honestly think that the damage deal on the speller is from a different nature, probably Erranikus trying to escape?

I just got this doing a "pity" run through the Sunken Temple, and I love it, how fun is it when your tanking instances or raids in the Dark Portal, one click on the Mr. Angry Pants (Eranikus) and you poison everyone around you.
I have this as a trinket full time, the cooldown bites, but it always comes in handy when ya want that extra AoE!

Personnaly, I still carry it around and use it in some situations. Typical MO: I lay an explosive trap. Fire off a volley at the mobs on my warrior. When the mobs activate the explosive trap, I hit the trinket then Feign Death. As long as FD isn't resisted that does some pretty substantial damage. I also hear it works well when against rogues as it un-stealths them. Bwahahaha!

Yes. Take the trinket to an elf in a cave in the far SW corner of the Swamp of Sorrows (below the lake shaped like a footprint). I don't know what happens after that.

So I, and apparently many others as what I gather from thot/allah, vendored this item, before I knew that there was a quest chain which has you hand this in along with an oathstone of ysera. trouble is, once you vendor it, you can't complete what sounds like an otherwise pretty interesting quest chain. even worse still, is that the quest chain is in fact incomplete. so I would suggest not vendoring this just yet, and don't hand it in, as once you hand it in you are out a pretty neat trinket, and for nothing since the quest doesn't go anywhere yet.

Does this work after you die? What about after you move away from a target?

I'm thinking about using this for Kamikaze runs in PvP. Lesser invis potion -> Explosive trap -> Activate this trinket. That's about 600 points of damage per target hit. If I manage to do this in a cluster of 8 players, that's 4800 damage. It seems worthwhile when my mana is dry. It's not as good as a mage with instant arcane explosion, but still pretty good.

I guess I'll just have to try it.

For those who sold this trinket, you would never ever be able to complete The Essence of Eranikus. I opened a ticket and talked to a GM:

"So, despite the loss, are you telling me there is not a single way, never ever, to complete the quest The Essence of Eranikus (ID 3374)? From all the hundreds or even thousands of quest all around the whole game, 15 years of history, that one quest 3374 is impossible for me to complete? Never ever ever? Is this really how you've designed it? Everything else could be abandoned, retaken, refarmed and so on, except this one?

Please confirm for me there is absolutely no way to complete this quest."
