Even after the fear nerfs, psychic scream is still a valuable escape tool. While it can only really be counted on for a few seconds of breathing space, often times those few seconds are enough to save the proverbial day.

This spell is so much more than an escape tool. While it is that as well, using this spell to directly cc one target while solo target grinding is pretty good as well. You will not get interupted and it costs way less than a PW:S. This requires some space, but even in rather tight situations Mind Flay should let you keep the mob in reasonable range.

I don't see why priests should have a new rank of Psychic Scream. Sure rogues and some other classes might have had their cc amped up a bit but it still lasts the same in PvP circumstances (10 secs with diminishes). I also don't see why some people even consider this a cc spell in PvE circumstances. It only lasts for 8 secs and has a pretty long cooldown. At best its an "oh crap" spell to get mobs off of you so you can heal, sort of like the druids Cyclone. My point is this isn't a cc spell its an oh crap spell thats most useful in PvP.

I always get at least 2 extra mobs on me every time I use this at whatever level. And it seems to break as soon as it draws aggro, perhaps bolstered by the sight of its companions.

Psychic Scream is also usable as an interrupt in PvP. If you see a mage low on mana and you know he'll probably use evocation soon, you can stick to him until he uses it and then fear-interrupt it. This can make or break a game if somebody is trying to get off a big heal and you interrupt it when the cast time is at ~0.5 sec.

Also note: if you fear somebody close to a cliff he will not run over it and die from fall damage, instead he will change direction when he gets to the edge :(

Has anyone reflected upon WHY a priest learns such an ability in the first place? Why would a priest be able to lay out a psychic scream that makes enemies flee in horror? It doesn't make much sense in my book.

In WoD this is a talent picked at level 60. No longer baseline. Psyfiend is gone too, replaced by it.

fear rank 1 is better for soloing than power word: shield. a lot of people use the shield while soloing, but the mana cost is too high. instead, you could use psychic scream rank 1 combined with mind flay, swp, and mind blast to solo. its a lot more mana efficient.

I had gotten this on my priest not too long ago (shadow priest alt, 0-60 in 7 day plan), and I never used it. Now after a few levels and playing around with it, i found out how much better it is to use than SW:P. Also works amazing for dueling rogues who try and sneak up on you, just run at em and cast

This spell helps me a lot in battlegrounds. If a rouge sneeks up to you, you can just scare him away or if u have the flag, easy defense.

I see how undead priests scare people and make them run around... but how do human priests? I can't imagine they make the same scary face of the living dead... I might see the feesability of a dwarf priest scaring the *!@# out of someone, I mean comon, who wouldn't take off running when your ambushed by a waist high, big nosed, freak.

ok, in psyc. scream the actually scream isnt what makes them run away, nor is it the apearance of the priest (though i do admit that i would be more scared of a dwarf), what it is would be a noise created by the priest that is imbued with magic to cuase enemies to beleive they have no chance to win and therefor must flee in order to survive, the different ranks are how much mastery the priest has over other creatures minds and how many of them he can affect at one time.
