On another note, compared to mage's evocation which is 8 seconds, Divine Plea is only 6 seconds for 10% less mana. When time is a factor in arena or pve, that helps a bit. The cooldown is also 3 minutes shorter than evocation, at 5 minutes.

Given that Divine Shield lasts for 12 seconds, it should be possible to hit DS, use a bandage for 6 seconds, then pop Divine Plea to regain both some health and mana during your bubble. (Bandage first because it's not affected by GCD, but you'll have to time your Divine Plea pretty accurately in order to ensure you get the full 6 seconds' worth).

Using this without divine shield is extremely risky, because it channels and its 25% mana every 3 seconds for 6 seconds, any damage you take will make you lose out on a lot of mana!

This spell is similar to https://www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/item=34430 (Glimmering Naaru Silver) And just like how much complain Naaru silver has received, i believe this spell will be hardly useful at all as well, although i might be wrong due to combat regeneration system work on Paladin (I am a tree druid)

The majority of complains on this trinket, which i believe is similar to this spell, comes from the fact that you have to channel, aka not healing for 6secs, and there really isn't an encounter in raid where you can stop healing for that long unless your tank outgear the instance, most of late game encounters are like, once you stop healing, the tank die, and healing tank is the main job of a paladin in most of raids, due to their strength in healing is powerful single target healing.

This spell honestly need some change IMHO, but after all, i am a druid and what i said here might be wrong...Who knows

this spell is a nice addition for holy pallys its great for raids,soloing, and pvp not so much for 5 man instances since more then likely you will be the only healer and stopping heals for 6 secs can kill your tank although it would be a good idea to say that ur going to use it so the tank can pop there panic button (war shield wall, pally divine protection, druid frenzy rejuv) that can give u enough time to pop this and get back to healing before the tank dies

It is also noteworthy, that the buff is currently not a magic effect. That means it will not be able to be spell stolen, purged, cleansed etc. in its current form.

Build 9014 recently nerfed this spell by reducing all outgoing heals by 100% and increasing the duration of the spell by 5 seconds (so you regen less mana per second). Seems a bit harsh, I wonder if the healing reduction will stick?

Well it's still got a 1 min cooldown, so it's incredibly buff in that regard, but removing the option to heal for 15 seconds is pretty rough. Might as well have it be channeled again. Maybe we're supposed to cast Judgement of Wisdom and go melee while this is going.

I think that Bliz should add a talent somewhere high up in the Holy Tree to help out holy pallies' healing with this spell:

Talent: Divine Bargaining
Reduces healing penalty of your Divine Plea spell by 10% / 20%.

This would probably be T8 or T9, and could replace highly unused talents like Blessed Life or Purifying Power

I dont really see this being useful for "between pulls" as many people here keep saying. Gaining back 1/4th your mana bar over 15 seconds isn't that great compared to just sitting down and drink.

I see this skill being extremely useful for mid-fight when you're OOM. This keeps pallies in the fight, especially Protadins who recently had their mana management nerfed back to where it was pre-3.0 :(

ya so being a ret pally while lvling i will be using this every minnute because it doesn't take a full minute to run outta mana unless im aoeing or something or all out dpsing for those solo group quests lol

This improves leveling, grinding and general Paladin mechanical progress.

Great for all three tree's and great for both PvP & PvE.

My only single greatest complaint would be that it is an expansion to late!

20% less healing done for 15 seconds is a very good tradeoff for 25% of your total mana every minute. I'm a holy paladin and I use this ability whenver I get below 70% (given the situation doesn't call for an 'oh sh!t' situation that requires all the heals i can give).

In any case, if it's an 'oh sh!t' situation we can still use Divine illumination, avenging wrath etc to conserve mana.

i find the 20% reduction not a major issue even when the tank is taking a fair ammount of damage i can keep healing through it with this on and Divine Illumination i can refill my mana bar, giving me a longer time healing before i have to use a pot by which time this spell is close to its CD finish

on some heros i run i also use this between a fight so i have less downtime this is a great plus when a warrior is tanking as they can keep their rage bar over 50% letting them get aggro faster

BoSanc is a godsend.

3% mitigation and 2% mana per avoid (dodge parry or block).

:\ gotta be a fool to not use it.

Actually, Kings may be better depending on the content you're fighting. (Prot Warrior point of view.)

The 10% to all stats -- especially Stamina -- vastly outweighs the 3% damage reduction on damage-intensive content that you don't significantly outgear. In other words, if this is the first time your guild does Patchwerk and you're all wearing quest blues, Kings > Sanc.

However, the Rage/RP/Mana returns on Sanc are quite simply terrific when your gear gets significantly better than the content, at which point you can sacrifice the extra HPs/avoidance/mitigation offered by Kings for Sanc's 3% damage reduction and Rage/RP/Mana returns. In this scenario you sacrifice survivability for threat.

With the amount of overhealing paladins are doing, the 20% reduction is really minor in comparison to the huge gains. Fully raid buffed with the Nobles Deck procced I have around 30k mana, thus resulting in about 7500 mana returned every 1 to 1.5 minutes.

I'll test it out tonight. From reading on the forums no one seems to notice the difference, the reason for which is probably two-fold.
1. Paladin heals almost always overheal anyways
2. Paladins (myself, anyways) have avenging wrath on the same macro as Divine Plea to make up for some of the -healing effect every 3 minutes

I think you will find that Holy Paladins will still hit it on every cooldown, because 25% of 25,000 mana every 60 seconds is too insane to pass up, but what may happen is they will cancel it prematurely as soon as significant healing is needed.

IMO Blizzard failed to force this spell into a "decision making" realm. You want Holy Paladins to think before using it? Make it double your casting time of all healing spells instead. 4.0s Holy Light casts? Okay, maybe I won't use it during enrage or when the raid takes AoE damage.

Edit: (2-14-09) After a few Naxxramas runs I've determined there's not much difference with the healing now being at 50%. I still never ran out of mana, but I did find myself using Flash of Light more than I usually do, but also my gear is not stellar, and I don't have any T7 yet. :( I've been thinking of tweaking my Holy Light macro so that if Divine Plea is up, it'll cancel it first. I figure, if the situation calls for healing that Flash of Light + Beacon of Light alone can't provide, then I should probably not mess around with a half-ass Holy Light.

In response to Dilly250515: I meant increase the casting time *instead of* reducing healing done. As it stands, 50% of heals that normally overheal 50% is just enough to top up my tank. The casting time thing would mean we would have to maybe time when we use it, instead of just when it's off cooldown, also if we do need to pop a few heals during it's duration, we only lose heal/second and not heal/second AND heal/mana. If you think about it, half heals or double casting speed are nearly the same thing. It's a trade-off between reaction time and efficiency. I find it challenging and fun to try to time the heals when I know damage is incoming, so they get healed the instant they get damaged. :)

However, we are going to increase the healing penalty on Divine Plea from 20% to 50%. Divine Plea was originally intended to help Protection and Retribution paladins stay full on mana. It should be a decision for Holy paladins, not something that is automatically used every cooldown."

What bugs me is despite saying this, they are nerfing illumination next patch again. Obviously they just wanted an excuse to nerf dp at the time.

Ive noticed this whilst tanking on my paladin that the buff seems to refresh it's self i have the glyph of divine plea but it has no mentioning of refreshment of the buff? is this a bugg? can anyone confirm this , thanks

Tier 10 set has a 4-item bonus on tanking set, which increases your dodge chance by 12% for 10 seconds each time you use Divine Plea.
I'm wondering if it will work with Guarded by the Light talent. If so - it will be an almost 100% uptime 12% dodge bonus.

Although I'm pretty sure I read this was proved to not be the case.. which is a shame because the other tanking 4 piece set bonuses are a lot better than the Paladins 4 piece bonus, although that's a whole different discussion!

For a prot paladin,

In a raid setting, once you obtain 4 peices of Tier 10 and you have the Glyph as well as the Talent, this ability gives you a 100% uptime 12% dodge, 3% damage reduction and constant mana regeneration.

Lets not forget 3% damage from Blessing of Sanctuary, 3% from Shield of the Templar, and lets not forget yet another 6% from Improved Righteous Fury.

12% Chance to dodge and 12% damage reduction, before any stats or ratings come into play. This is a HUGE amount for any end-game content.

Perhaps overpowered? Definitely. You will only realize this if you have any other 80 tanks. You cannot gain these kind of stats from any amount of gems or enchants, diminishing returns have huge effect around 31% dodge, and 12% damage reduction would require a massive amount of armor to reproduce.

Previously, Tankadins were able to use this in conjunction to sustain their mana pool. I do believe certain things such as weapon swings caused this buff to reset. As of 4.0, I think this talent has been removed. Now, after the 15 sec, this buff is simply gone. Not really sure if this ability is any good anymore. Especially now that Judgements grant tanks 30% mana pool.

Just my thought on the matter. Maybe someone can find the talent that sustains this buff.

Given how otherwise "useless" this spell has become in 4.0.1+, I'd much rather see it being redesigned to act similarly to the Druid's Innervate spell. Given the fears of Holy Paladins having "too high" mana regen, a solution could be to remake Divine Plea to only work to cast on OTHER players, and have the mana gained (like Innervate), be based on a percentage of the casting Paladins maximum mana pool. In other words, virtually useless to be cast on others by Retri/Prot Paladins.

Holy Paladins are supposed to occasionally be using their Judgement to generate extra mana, much like other healer specs have been redesigned to occasionally cast a "damage" spell, for mana regen (and extra damage).

Major nerf on the Divine plea here. They should have removed the healing penalty, now it's just plain useless during combat. The mana you gain doesn't outweigh the extra mana you waste on 50% heals.

This spell is great for things like the phases on Magmaw when his head is impaled. That's a mana regen period. It's also a good idea to spam Judgment of Insight during this period.
Next patch (4.0.6) will reduce the (de)buff length time to 9s and increase the total mana gained to 12%, which is very nice and will make this better for smaller allowed for periods of regen. When glyphed fpr 6 more %, this'll be a little like the new Innervate in mana regen, but with a shorter CD and with a healing debuff.
Also... At the moment, if you use Auctioneer, be careful. My Auctioneer broke and doesn't let me dispel DP mid-combat :(

Dragon Soul provides many great opportunities for liberal use of plea (at least in normals to my knowledge):
Morchok: black blood phase.
Zonozz: after burn phase.
Yorsajh: when the adds are traveling.
Hagara: during the start of the lightning phase/ any time during ice phase/ when she is stunned (may be dangerous due to focused assault soon after).
Ultraxion: better used earlier than later, especially if using in concert w/ blue buff. Use right before hour of twilight cast for damage-free plea uptime even through special button spam (same goes for potion of concentration channeling).
Warmaster: pop it and hope your raid loves you enough to not stand in shiny charge lines. If it must be used in phase 2 try to fit it in after the drake is dead, before he takes too much damage, and well before he is set to roar.
Spine: during tendon dps downtime. Watch out for those fiery grips, however.
Madness: at the start of each platform.

A tip for Holy/Ret dual spec pallies -- if you go from holy to ret, don't switch to your ret gear right away. First cast Divine Plea while still in holy gear (ret spec), and then go to Ret gear. You'll get your mana back faster if you're in a rush to pull more mobs/quest more.

Note that you should never combine this with other cooldowns, as you lose out on a lot of the potential of those abilities. It may be tempting to try to "smooth out" your healing, but it's an overall loss of healing done, which in the end is a waste of mana (as you'll have to use more expensive spells to compensate). If there aren't any good "quiet" times during a fight, you can use abilities like Hand of Sacrifice and Divine Protection to buy yourself some time.

An example:
Let's say your heals normally heal for 10 000. Divine Plea reduces that by 50% while Avenging Wrath increases it by 20%.
If you use Avenging Wrath on its own, you get 2000 more healing per spell.
If you use Avenging Wrath with Divine Plea, you get 10000*0.5*0.2 = 1000 more healing per spell.
