This might explain the disappearance of Blessing of Salvation, which was instead replaced with Hand of Salvation, which currently has the same comments as the original Blessing of Salvation.

30% of total stamina (which could probably be as high as 2200 at level 80) is an insane amount of spell damage for a prot pally, and as a result would probably negate the purpose of Salvation anyway, at least in 5-man content.

God knows I don't get the healing portion of this (because protadins always carry around a healing set, amirite), but free spell damage is always made of win.

I'm currently playing my protadin in that awkward stage between being well-geared for regular 70 instances and just barely undergeared for heroics, and spell damage is my major weakness, while pure sex for the well-geared protadin, for the one still gearing-up, this looks like it'll fill a common hole in one's stats.

Like all other prot pallies I have no idea why the healing portion of this spell is here :p but its also on the ret and of course holy trees so go figure.
As for this spell yes it will allow a more tanking orientated weapon, protection paladins will end up using identical gear to warrior tanks due to our new ability Hammer of the Righteous
Now to generate maximum threat from that spell we obviously need higher damage weapons, our current 40-60 base damage caster weapons just wont cut it and given the nerf to Righteous Fury preventing consecrate pulling as much threat stacking a spell damage weapon anyway will not be a better option.

I am just taking a stab in the dark here, but the healing component might be helpful when soloing. As a prot pally you are going to have a boatload of health to deal with, but if (yea i know, if) you got a holy light crit on yourself it would be 30% more potent, then you can go back to pulling 10 more mobs to consecrate away. Or in a PVP situation where melee opponents don't bother touching you because you have twice the health and armor of everyone else you might get lucky with some crit flash of light on a friendly rogue or something.

Instead if the 30% crit amount from our heal's, this should add crit amount from healers' heals :( thou 30% of that seems overpowerd.

The bonus to crit heals presumably is designed to work along with the crit boost to FoL from Sacred Shield. It will give a prot spec'd pally more healing viability either to off-heal under unusual circumstances or presumably in pvp.

I'm a OT in my guild's 25man raids usually & as most bosses only require one tank (unless adds are involved) I quite often end up having to don my healing set (which I always carry with me on raids, even if it sits in my bank the rest of the time)...

Because of that the spellpower from this talent while being heavenly for tanking also serves the purpose of increasing my 'back-up healer role'... The crit heal bonus even more so.

True I might not heal regularly on 5mans or raid trash, but it's useful at times... And even you paladins who don't heal, wee know your taking the talent anyway but think of the crit heal bonus when AoE grinding (bubble & heal of course).

Anyone know if the +30% critical heals affects LoH crit heals as well? I mean, you'd think it would, but only with 3.1 will Sheath of Light HoT effect affect LoH, so this might not, as far as I know.

I believe LoH benefits from this talent too. That would be the best explanation as to how Prot pallies can get 40-60k crits with LoH.

Will this make Consecration stronger? (Consecrates the land beneath the Paladin, doing )

Isn't it an immediate 20% (per talent point) increase to Consecrate? My Consecrate is currently a third of threat. 20% to 30% is 9% more threat per TP, not to mention self healing. Scales with buffs? A must have...

Avenger shield, Consecration, Seal of Light (formerly Vengeance) at least in Wrath, all have spell dmg coefficients equal or slightly lower than the AP coefficient. Depending on the coefficient, the spell dmg from STR through this talent (60% of STR) increases the dps/tps of these abilities up to 60%.
Thus, spell dmg bonus in this talent is an AGGRO talent in Wrath and may be still in Cata.

1 STR= 2 AP
1 STR throug this passive ability = 0.6 SPH

Assuming Avenger shield still has .07 AP and 0.07 SPH coefficient,
Av DMG = B + (0.07 AP + 0.07 SPH)

Wihtout this passive ability , 100 STR increases the dmg by
Av DMG = 0.07 * AP = 0.07 *200=14
With the SPH increase from this ability, 100 STR increases the dmg by

Av DMG = 0.07 * AP + 0.07 SPH= 0.07 *200 + 0.07 *60=14+4.2=18.2

So 100 STR with the ability means 4.2 more than original 14 dmg.
4.2/14=30% increase in STR's effect on Avenger 's shield.
Before patch 4.0 , in other words in Wrath, this effect of SPH of 60% STR used to be in a top tier Touched by the Light talent with 3 ranks.

This effect was about increasing threat as a tank, and many informed prot paladins took this talent for tanking, despite Wrath-only aware people thinking it's just for heals. In wrath, as you know Blizz normalized all the tanking gear and only give STR and not SPH on prot paladin tanking gear. In BC, the tanking gear had been SPH only. However, in Wrath, Blizz kept the SPH coefficients that BC prot paladins geared for. The tank armor has changed to have STR, and the formulas were changed to carry AP coefficients. However, the SPH coefficients have existed throughout Wrath! I presume, in patch 4.0 and Cata, Blizz is keeping the formulas with SPH coefficients, because they kept the Touched of light 60% STR=SPH effect, by moving it to a built-in, passive ability for prot paladins instead of a talent that one can opt in. Note that the spells with SPH coefficients I'm referring to is Avenger's Shield, Seal of Truth (formerly Vengeance)/judgement, consecration, but shield of righteous, hammer of righteous were not based on SPH at least in Wrath.
I will wait for wowhead and wowwiki to confirm that they kept formulas with SPH..
Assuming it is confirmed, I still appreciate this as a built in threat prot ability.

Ok, I found some formulas on the updated or new abilities for patch 4.0/Cata.
These are the abilities that were based partly on SPH in Wrath and thus helped by Touched by the light in Wrath.
Seal of truth/judgement is based purely on AP, e.g., ((0.013 * holy power.025 * AP) * 5 * 100 / 100) and once stacked 5 times, deals 16% weapon dmg.

Here are the abilities that were never based on SPH in Wrath.
Shield of righteous in patch 4.0 and Cata reads to deal dmg based on AP , e.g., "120% AP" at 3 holy charges.
Hammer of righteous reads range of numbers and has no known formula.

Alright, the Seal of truth being purely AP is depressing me that prot paladins lost the treat from this SPH /STR effect for the tanking seal. However, the new passive Vengeance ability that dmg taken up to10% of max health can be given as AP, is now allowing 10% HP or 1 STA = 10 HP ==> 10% of 10 HP = 1 HP converted to 1 AP. Thus, 1 STA = 1 AP after building up in boss fight. This is in the whole numbers of the of the straight STR conversion to AP 1 STR = 2 AP.

I suppose this is not so bad. This Touched by the light talent giving SPH, should increase the instant self-healing of Word of Glory, which is increased by 60% current Cata talent Guarded by the light.

The +6% spell hit appears to not work in 4.0.1 (like so many other things...). I'm missing with avenger's shield on mobs 1-2 levels above me (@ level 74) and under the spell info on the character screen it's not showing anything beyond the hit on my gear. www.wowhead.com/mop-classic/spell=53503 DOES about to be operational, however.
