Freeze - is a ranged Frost Nova with 25sec cooldown.
Waterbolt - similar to frostbolt but with 2.5 sec cast time and does 500-550 damage, can crit for mid 800's at level 60.

I am not sure if this pet will scale with +damage gear on, but will scale with levels. Also the pets stats are a percentage of the summoners stats which will vary.

I'm feeling a little lackluster with this talent. I think it does a fair job DPSing and I love the ranged nova ability, but 45 seconds with a 3 minute cooldown seems a bit short to me. Perhaps allow it to scale with our +damage or just up the summoned time a bit.

The bugged bar isn't very fun either, thank god for crtl + # shortcuts.

The cooldown on the Water Elemental starts once you summon him, so when he despawns after 45 seconds you can summon him again in 2 minutes 15 seconds :D

If you use this spell like a trinket, it is a thing of beauty. For instance...

Let's pretend you have 5/5 ignite and 5/5 shatter (which you obviously should have if you can summon the WE). If you stand back, use the ranged nova with a flamestrike in tow, the results can be spectacular in both pvp and pve.

This little toy can really shine in WSG. While he won't kill anything, he certainly can help you chase down anything with his nifty nova. Or, help you escape by staggering his nova with yours.

In rediculously dps intensive fights (i.e. patchwerk), this spell's 253 mana cost is a steal for the dps it can pump out in 45 seconds.

This spell only costs me 199 mana. This is likely because of mana reducing talents like Elemental Precision and Frost Channeling. Also, the pet does scale with gear, but I'm not sure if it's just the health and mana or the damage too.

I've seen lots of fellow mages in PvP summoning a water elemental and then having it simply stand there while they die. To help solve this problem I reccommend using a macro. I will give you 2 macros to help.

The first i would use when u have an enemy targeted. Then what the macro will do is summon your water elemental, set him to aggressive and attack your enemy. NOTE: you must press the macro 3 times for all of these abilities to occur, but it makes things a whole lot easier by putting it in one button. Simply copy and paste the following test into your macro.

1) /cast Summon Water Elemental
/petaggressive
/petattack

The second macro that makes using your water elemental a lot easier is a macro for his frost nova. You simply press the macro and set the frost nova down where you want it.

2) /click PetActionButton5

It does not benenfit from either Ice Shards or Frost Channeling (i've been pelting a mob with 1k frostbolts (3/8 NW, Sub enchant on gloves, and frost channeling).

And it's absolutely ACE in keeping a warrior in combat while you run around yourself.

The water elemental DOES benefit from spell damage, tests have roven it, but its not alot. The Water elemental does not benefit from any talents, frost channeling may reduce the cost since its a frost spell. but other than that shatter, frostbite etc dont aid the WE.

This pet does do great Dps. But if you are in PvP and your water elemental just disapeared after it's 45 minutes. You use Cold Snap. It restarts the cooldown of all your frost spells. So you can summon the Water Elemental twice :).

This talent allows you to summon a water elemental to fight for you for 45 seconds. This is a useful talent when it comes to fighting raid bosses and not pulling aggro. The water elemental's damage does not contribute to your threat so this is a good pet to use if you want to be of some use in the beginning of a fight. This water elemental also has its' own frost nova which can be placed anywhere within the yard radius. To have the Water Elemental you will need at least a total of 41 talent points in frost.

I like to summon these in pvp, just before I ice block. People will keep on attacking me while blocked as my WE nukes them. Great fun. People tend to ignore the WE, but it'll do great damage while up. Also, the ranged nova is great to stop flag carriers or other runners.

This is unconfirmed, but I've noticed that in arenas, this bad boy keeps waterbolting enemies even after I'm dead. I don't know if this happens anywhere else, but I've seen it happen multiple times in the arena.

This water elemental helps alot. I just turned into lvl 50 and got this and when i fight monsters you just use the water elemental to take all the dmg. That result that you can take harder monsters. I killed a special 52 elite by my self and the water elemental took the dmg so i could make it. The 52 was arround a quest i azhara and fire mage don't have a chance against it becous the 52 elite hits to hard and kill them. SO my point is: Use it for taking damage!

he hits for 600 damage, every 2.5 seconds. That's 18 hits of 600 or about 11k damage. He crits, he benefits from winter's chill. So he's a 12-14k damage DoT that costs less than a frostbolt. I'll take it anyday.

Not to mention his threat doesn't affect yours.

-Excellent, excellent talent. I can't bring myself to spec frost without it.

-It's worth mentioning that (like any pet) the elemental's abilities are independent of your own, so you can cast Freeze with it right before you finish casting a frostbolt, then follow up with an ice lance. In essence this creates the dreaded frostbolt-icelance shatter combo without giving your opponent time to trinket/blink/dispel/BoF/etc. out of being frozen.

-If you do the above thing, make sure you use freeze before the frostbolt finishes casting, because the instant the bolt leaves your hands, things like shatter are factored in.

-The downside to the elemental in arenas is that smart players can avoid most or all of the damage from it by using line-of-sight tactics with pillars. This is more of an issue in 2v2 than anywhere else.

-The cooldown on this doesn't "feel" like a 3 minute cooldown, due to the fact that it starts when the elemental appears and not when it dies. This is in contrast to the combustion cooldown, which is also 3 minutes but "feels" longer because it doesn't start until the buff is used up.

-The elemental exists for 45 seconds, and the cooldown on its freeze is 25; this means that you can get 2 of them off, as long as you use it in the first 20 seconds. Keep an eye on the elemental's mana because it will run out if it's attacking the whole time, and it's almost always better to get another freeze off than another water bolt. I usually pull it back when it's around 300 mana until I use my 2nd freeze.

-It's great for finishing people off who are almost dead if you're also almost dead; ice block and watch them run around while your elemental kills them.

As a sidenote, if you use swstats and several frostmages are in raid, all gets the damagebonus from all waterelementals since there is no way for the add-on to tell them apart.

This spell is an absolute must for frost mages.

Freeze - God-sent spell to deal with melee classes and casters who like to jump around like headless chickens spamming instant cast spells

Yes, warlocks can banish this guy unfortunately.

The thing I love about him is he continues to attack when ur in iceblock. Most retards tend to get so annoyed at not being able to hit you that they turn on the water elemental. Simply cancel the iceblock aura and start pounding away again. If he dies, cold snap, summon ele again, ice block again, and repeat.

I dont think anyone has mentioned the shatter combo, a fantastic move that i think all frost mages should know how to utilize. How it works is this; You summon the Water Elemental and begin casting frostbolt. Right before frostbolt casts off, use the freeze ability of the WE on your enemy and then ice lance instantly. The deal with this is that both the frost bolt and the ice lance get the crit chance against the frozen target and the shatter bonus. With Ice Lance's triple damage bonus against frozen targets, its like using PoM and casting another frostbolt. If both of these crit, you are in for some great damage. A well-geared mage can get a good 5000 damage if both abilities crit. So the order is Summon WE+Cast frostbolt+Freeze target right before bolt casts+ice lance. Rinse...repeat...PROFIT!!!!

Using the Freeze ability does not stop the elemental's cast, so tell it to attack and wind up a Frostbolt at the same time, then use Freeze just before the Frostbolt leaves your hands. The Waterbolt, Frostbolt, and Ice Lance all land at the same time for great burst.

tell me if im wrong but this is what i beleive
un-talented its 45 sec duriation 3 min=180 sec cooldown and since the cooldown starts when the elemental apears theres a 135 sec cooldown
imp WE 60 sec= 1 min duriation 120 sec cooldown
cold as ice WE 1 min duriation 20% less cooldown makes it a 96 sec cooldown
glyph of WE reduces the cooldown by 30 sec so thats a 66/1min 6 sec cooldown?

Something no-one seems to have commented on.

When I was playing my mage during BC, before I switched to my tankadin main, I loved usin this spell. Still do. One thing I did notice during it's use: The elemental is immune to frost-based damage and effects. Would have to test if this is still the case in WotLK, but I don't see why it wouldn't be. This is more significant than it seems... the elemental can take anything, for example, Sapphiron, throws out and can just keep DPSing.

The glyph and "cold as ice" talent ruin alot.

If it had a 3 minute cd it would be great. It could be summoned at the beginning of the battle, as would an enhancement shamans spirit wolves, and bloodlust would be popped at the same time, making all of them benefit from bloodlust.

Then, after 3 minutes spirit wolves and water elemental would be popped again, and another shaman would cast bloodlust, making them all benefit again

Since summons lose the sated debuff when they dissapear.

Too bad now the water elemental won't benefit from bloodlust in raids.

Makes it so that when you have water elemental active it will make him cast waterbolt when you cast frostbolt, instead of waiting till you finish a cast to start it. Nothing fancy just to make it easier for you to manage.

In 3.3 this spell will gain the glyph Glyph of Eternal Water. This will make this an INFINITE PET (much like a lock's demons or a DK's ghoul) BUT it will lose the ability to cast freeze.

Having a permanent pet, but having to sacrifice it's only spell.

The only scenario I can see this would have to be for a bit more DPS in a raid. But Frost is the least accepted raiding spec.

The reason Blizzard is going to enable mages to glyph their Elemental to make it permanent, is to try to make PvE Frost mages a more viable spec.

Sure, it will make levelling faster/easier from level 50 (when you get the spell). But the main reason is as stated above, for Endgame frost mage raiding.

I think it's an excellent idea, finally you'll see more frost mages (superior kiters, AOE damage dealers) in raids :)

Take a look at Deep Freeze. They're making it deal massive damage to bosses who are immune to stun effects to further boost Frost mage PvE damage

EDIT: Added a few italics to clear up my points. A frost mage's dps output is still not as good as a fire or arcane spec, but it has certainly improved.

I thought I would just add a very useful macro for using your Water Elemental:

/cast Summon Water Elemental; Freeze

What this basically does is, if you have no water elemental out, it will summon a water elemental. If you do have a water elemental out, it will bring up the Freeze targeting allowing you to do two simple commands with only one button. So pressing the button twice will summon your pet, then allow you to freeze straight away with another press of the button. Another nice feature of this (for me anyway) is that it will display Freeze's cooldown while the Water Elemental is active, and the cooldown on your Water Elemental while it isn't.

Hope that helps some budding frost mages out there!

The new Water Elemental for 4.0.1 and onward is now a permanent summon, usable at level 10. Its abilities seem limited, but in actuality it has its frostbolt (its only form of damaging attack) and a freeze effect. The freeze effect is good for exoduses and PvP. Mages are already one of the most powerful classes as far as damage dealing goes, and adding a water elemental to the mage ups their effective dps dependent on the spellpower of the mage. It's not meant as a tank pet (although it sometimes will draw enough threat to tank for you), but it will definitely make leveling a little easier for the only caster class with no form of self-healing.

I had my Water Elemental attack Magister Keldonus in Dragonblight, and the shade of of Telestra in the background said:

"Grand Magus Telestra says: Deal with this interruption, Keldonus. After you are through, bring me the head of the one they call Water Elemental. I will decorate my chambers with her skull."

So, apparently our "blue buddies" are actually "blue gals".
I got the idea to try this from the comments section for the shaman's Earth Elemental Totem, who also found out their Greater Earth Elemental is female.

So yeah, I renamed my pet prior to 4.0.3. I logged after 4.0.3 was deployed on EU and my pet had it's default name, now I get the error "You can't rename your pet" Any ideas?

Edit: I talked to a GM, and he said that this is intended. Pets can no longer be renamed and the ones renamed have been resetted. They are just Water Elementals now.

I'm not sure if it's intended or not but the tooltip for the Orc's racial Command. Does not mention mages. Doesn't seem fair if orcs are not granting that benefit, mages are as much a pet class as death knights.

It was my impression that the Water Elemental would acquire at least some of my own spell damage. However, at level 10 my Frost Bolts are hitting for about 115 and my Water Elemental pet is hitting for 4 damage. Yep I said 4. wtf is up with this crap. I mean 4 damage is NOTHING!

I sure hope this gets better as I level. I assumed that it would at least hit for 20 at level 10.

The way you have it, your tooltip will always display "Summon Water Elemental", even when your water elemental is active. Just using "#showtooltip" it will change depending on whether or not you have an active water elemental.

Something worth noting, this pet is quite darn loud and has a very limited soundloop. If you're sensitive to annoying sounds then it might get old really quick.

Especially bad in confined spaces like the auctionhouse where you have to stand next to it (also due to other mages) unless you use the new feature of sending it away to annoy someone else.

So yeah, I would love to see a option to "mute pets" Blizzard, because I'm really gritting my teeth whenever I hear this sound in game. It looks pretty cool and the animation is ok, but that passive "blub blub blub blub blub blub blub" sound is like having a fork jabbed in your eardrum every 3 seconds.

I have noticed no one is commenting on this lately. However, I am in full heirlooms and my water elemental is hitting for 3 damage at level 12. Yes I said 3. What is going on here. Is this a pet or a distraction of some sorts so that I can cast from a different direction. This makes me want to just DELETE my character now. Does this get better?

To all of your clamouring for a all-in-one macro, just use seperate ones. It's not that difficult to summon a water ele, esp. considering how often they die, even in PvP.

One thing I do recommend is adding "/petattack" into a commonly used spell (maybe Frostbolt, Ice Lance, or whatever you open with) if you're a PvP'er, as the assist stance is crap. If you have issues targeting w/ the Freeze spell, add the !Freeze portion, it'll help anyone that's button mashing the Freeze spell and having issues w/ it going on/off (the targeting reticule).

Macros:

/cast Ice Lance
/petattack

/cast Frostbolt
/petattack

/cast !Freeze

EDIT: For those wondering about Command, I believe it affects Water Elemental's, as it's supposed to effect any permanent pet. I.E. Unholy Dk, Warlock, Hunter, Frost mage.

HOW TO GET RID OF THE ANNOYING GURGLING/BUBBLING SOUND FROM YOUR PET ELEMENTAL

After much investigating, I found how to get rid of the annoying gurgling/bubbling sound of my Water Elemental pet.

Goto the directory: World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\
Create a new Folder, name it: Creature
Create another new Folder inside the last and name it: WaterElemental
You should end up with the following path: World of Warcraft\Data\Sound\Creature\WaterElemental
Create a zero-sized (empty/mute) file: WaterElementalLoop.wav
Add the file into the folder called "WaterElemental"

...and the noise goes away forever. Ahhhhh, blessed silence :)

If you don't know how to create a .wav file, here is how you do it:

Open the application Sound Recorder. (Go to Start/All Programs/Accessories/Entertainment/Sound recorder).
Make sure your microphone is turned off/muted.
Click Record button (red dot), leave for a sec and then press stop.
From File, use the Save As option, and save the file with the name "WaterElementalLoop" somewhere you'll find it - make sure you name the file exactly as written.
Now copy or cut the file into the directory as above.

I hope this helps some Mages out there.

Something I've noticed is that the size of your elemental will grow as you level up. The size of a level 30 is smaller than that of a level 90 water elemental. Not sure if other minions (like a Warlock's) work this way too.

I found something cool today, when killing Kael'Thas for the mount.

Prehistory:
At the end of WotLK, it was possible to rename your Water Elemental, because with a new glyph it counted as a pet, or something like that. There is a comment here by Furydeath, you can read it for proof.
So I renamed it to "Popsicle". Some time later, this "bug" was removed, and all water elems were reverted back to standard name, "Water Elemental".

But today, when Capernian did Conflagration on my elemental, DBM showed exactly this: "Conflagration on Popsicle". So, deep down the code, these renames are still in-effect. It's so heart-warming to know, that even after 2.5 years of changes and redesign, its name is still there with me, even though I can't see it manually :)

The one thing stopping me from playing Frost... Frostbolt heals the water elemental.

Now on the surface that doesn't sound like a problem, except that if you have no target, or spam tab and hit the spell, its possible that the half a second where you have no target (in between tabbing to a new target) you'll start casting on nothing and it will go to the elemental.

Now I don't think I have any add ons that are modifying anything here, and no macros. But right now, thats unplayable for me.

I was trying to find a list of all the minions and guardians available to players through spells, talents and glpyhs (not from items) and ended up creating one.
Hope this is useful for others as well.

Death Knight:
Ghoul - Available at level 55.
Geist - Minor glyph that changes the appearance of the Ghoul to that of a Geist.
Skeleton - Minor glyph that changes the appearance of the Ghoul to that of a Skeleton.
Undead Monstrosity - Available at level 70. Transforms the Ghoul into an Undead Monstrosity.
Gargoyle - Available at level 74.
Legion of Ghouls - Available at level 80.
Various undead - Minor glyph that changes the appearances of the Ghouls of the Army of the Dead into various undead minions.

Druid:
Treants - Available at level 60. Four different versions: Balance, Feral, Gaurdian and Restoration.

Mage:

Just thought I'd post a bit of helpful information on this guy since there isn't much posted on Alla

I just got this guy 2 lvls ago(I'm 52 now) so I've had just a lil bit of time to get used to him...and he does take some getting used to...he's an akward thing to control...but once you get the hang of it he's very powerful

First off, his auto attack is Waterbolt(2.5 second cast; 279 to 351 Frost Damage). It may seem low, but his damage is also modified by your gear as well(+Spell/Frost Dmg and +Spell Crit Rate). His Waterbolts don't add a chill effect, but they do get the Crit Hit bonus from Winter's Chill if you have it(although they don't add the effect).

The next ability he has is simply clutch: Freeze, a ranged Frost Nova attack on a seperate timer from your own(25 second recast timer). Freeze also stops and restarts the Elemental's Waterbolt casting, so you don't need to worry about waiting in between his casts...or for his Waterbolts to break his own Novas. Although a bit akward to get used to, especially if you kite your targets like I do, but it is essentially the same thing as your Blizzard's targeting system.

You can control your pet while doing your seperate spells which is very nice. You can start casting Frostbolt, and halfway through the cast, hit your Elemental's Freeze before yours goes off to get the 50% Crit Bonus from Shatter(assuming every Frostie has this fully upgraded^^).

This is especially helpful in instances where you normally never get to benefit from Shatter on your Frostbolts due to other people's damage breaking your Frost Nova effects(unless you solo/kite a few links..fun stuff^^).

There are also a few nice little things you can do w/ macros to make controlling your Elemental easier so you can strain your mind a little less trying to control your pet and your spells at the same time(you'll see what I'm talking about in a sec).

1) Freeze macro that activates your Elemental's Freeze w/o having to use the pet window:

/click PetActionButton5
/click PetActionButton4

(Change the numbers to whatever you have each of his abilities set as; in my case, 5 is the pet attack button, and 4 is the Freeze button. This will have your Elemental Attack the target and bring up the curser for Freeze(I throw it in for times I summon him and instantly use Freeze. Just one less button to press to make him attack.)

2) Frostbolt macro that has your Elemental attack whatever you are attacking.

/cast Frostbolt(Rank 9)
/click PetActionButton5

(If you like to have your Elemental attack different targets then you are attacking, I would either suggest to have this as well as a normal Frostbolt macro or not even using this. I personally don't like to have him attack whatever I am attacking to take down monsters more quickly since I kite. But again, it's all preference. Although I really like this function in conjunction w/ the next macro.)

3) Frost Nova/Polymorph macro that makes your Elemental either follow or stay.

/cast Frost Nova(Rank 1) or /cast Polymorph(Rank 3)
/click PetActionButton3

(I have Follow on button 3. This is so that when you Frost Nova or Polymorph, your Elemental will stop attacking it and follow you(you can use stay, but I like follow to help reposition the Elemental). With this, you don't risk your Elemental's Waterbolt damage breaking your Frost Nova effect before your next Frostbolt goes off, which would otherwise make you lose your Shatter Bonus. As I said, I like using this one w/ the above macro because you don't risk losing your Shatter bonus, and he attacks right as you start casting your Frostbolt so you hardly lose any of the Elemental's pretty nice bonus damage.)

You can mix and match any of those basic and easy to understand macro functions to make your own macros to suit your preferences, because every Mage's playstyle is different and is all about personal preferance in my opinion^^

I know this was all a bit long-winded, but I hope someone found it helpful^^ unless you're an Alliance Mage on Emerald Dream <_< jk

since patch 2.01 I have been a bit dissapointed with a few of the things in the game. PvP epics are much too easy to get now (which makes the game imbalanced towards PvP in my oppinion), and some world spawns have bugged up (Teremus the Devourer being one).

However, this has to be the one thing that saves EVERYTHING for me in the new patch.

first things first, if you plan to get this I must advice you to go full frost (this being before TBC) in talents, since you won't have much use for the measly 10 points left unless you really want clearcasting in Arcane.

Ok then, to start things off this pet is nothing short of Awesome! You get to summon it for around 200 mana points (around the cost of one frostbolt), it's an instant cast, and the pet lasts for a full 45 seconds! This may not sound like much, but considering the spell only has a 3 minute cooldown, AND that frost snap can instantly wipe this cooldown out, you will come to love this thing.

it has only two main attacks as of yet, but that is all you will ever need as a frost specced mage:
1. Waterbolt (hits for around 500-700 depending on your gear, since it gets bonus from spell-damage+ and stats, and it will crit for around 1000, which is the highest my own pet has critted yet) - 3 sec cast
2. an AoE frostnova, that you can decide where to use (there's a little targetting thing, like with blizzard, or engineering bombs, etc.) - instant cast, 25 sec cooldown

The pet has around 2200'ish HP, and enough mana to last it through it's entire duration.

Now with these nifty features at hand, prepare to Own anything and Everything in the game. PvE wise this pet makes life so much easier. you start of by summoning the element, and the you use it's AoE freeze on the monster /monsters you want to kill. Now since they're frozen, you will gain the 50 % chance to crit here, so charge your frostbolt and prepare for the first crit, and set your pet to attack as well for a little extra damage :)
after the initial "shock" of about 2000-3000 damage or so (depending on your gear, and if your pet and you crits or not), the monster will be slowed and you and your pet can continue casting until the monster is close enough for you to use your own frost nova and crit it down. ^_^
if this doesn't kill the monster, simply blink and get some distance, then use your pet's frost-nova'ish attack again, and crit once more- if that isn't enough, then cold-snap and resummon the element with zero cooldown on it's frost nova and crit again- now you can easily see a pattern here, and it is high-critting with a nice little pet to send high DPS (for a pet!) bolts of as well.
Now if you invested talents in Winter's chill as well, a big thumbs up to you since your pet will recieve the crit-chance bonus as well, increasing your damage output even more.

In PvP situations this pet is godlike as well- you can easily get about 4-5 crits in a row with the AoE freezes from you and your pet, and the extra damage KILLS in PvP- 700+ damage from a minion that everyone simply ignores is deadly! :D

for most rogues this thing is a god-sent as well. let's say a rogue sneaks up on you and begins his nice little stun-locking combo. you ice-block and get ready to Frost-nova and blink away. Now normally the rogue will vanish while you charge another bolt and get freed here, but wait! you've just INSTANTLY SUMMONED your water elemental, and if he vanishes you simply use it's own AoE freeze on the area he was in, and he's frozen once more!
set the pet to attack, and begin firing frostbolts, and the rogue will be dead in no time. ~_^

NOTE: this also works if you've had your pet out before you get stunlocked, since your pet will aggro anything that attacks you, and you can simply ice-block while the rogue gets 3-4 bolts on him for 500-700 non-crit damage each, since he's too dumb to waste the element! :P

Well i think this spell is great for PvP and Pve. it gives u a nice feelin when u chase away lower lvls thinkin they can beat u.. i think this spell makes u like your mage more. i got a lvl 52 balance druid with force of nature and i play with a lvl 53 mage. we beat almost evryone in pvp with our nice damage, rooting, freezing, healing faeri fire(for rouges that tries to vanish), and with the 3 treants and the water elemental, no one that tries to flee have ever succeded in gettin away if we dont meet em near goblin bruisers xD. Great for raids in XR (when yur alliance). well i think this spell is very cool and i think it is very good. Frost talent specc is the best, fire is good, arcane sux, an old mage once told me^^. if u want to really enjoy your class i suggest u play frost=)

i once said this spell is worthless, as it used to be summonable, required reagent and lasted until death before...now i LOVE this spell! water elemental helps alot, especially hitting 500-600ish with waterbolts!almost never gets out of mana either (although it does in some situations :P)

improved counter-spell * i really like * however : if you do want to only re-spec once - for example

after leveling a fire PVP build so you can farm HK's at level 69, but want to do some frost raiding for tier 5 or 6

i would be temped to skip arcane almost completely just to experiment with this level 70 build

pretty amazing pet; I only wish Ice Floes talent reduced his cooldown, too.

great for PvP with a macro to summon and cast his FN instantly.

PvE - get a timer mod so you know when he's going to despawn; he always seems to be up when u need him.

if you are going past Ice Block, then going to 41pts to get him is a no-brainer.

OK STORY TIME EVERYBODY
i was a lvl 49
alli shaman and lovin it. I went into WSG and found a nice mage who i continually kept comign across and 1 shotting with my kang the decapitator. then when i hit 50 i got new rank windfury and i absolutely had to test it on sumone and who better than a mage? so usually i 1 shot mages up to about 5 levels higher than me (hell i murdered a lvl 40 priest at 30 in a duel) so i duel a lvl 53 or 54 (cant remember) mage and OH MY FREAKIN GOD DID I TYPE.....WTF? SO FAST. i was frozen due to the 2 frost nova all the way through and only landed bout 1 earthsock on him. hell that water elemental couldve soloed me coz after looking at the combat log that freakin elemental was hitting me 700 which is a big hit when i have only 3k hp. so yeh....water elemental......wow

i can kill up to about 4 enemies at once with this baby using 2 novas good exra dps from him and polly, and yes i know an aoe grinder takes down an average of 10 mobs at a time, i used 2 be 1 but i dont see any fire mages managing ;)

Its about his armor does any player got any idea how much armor a water elemental has? i have a feeling its quiet some

Im finally 70 with my mage now, cant be bothered to level the shammy i talked bout erlier that got mauled because its too much fun owning with this thing. Oh elemental, i love you as much as a 2 foot virtual gnome can love a giant glob of mystical water.
P.S. at 70 this thing has bout 3.2k hp and hits around 700 damage, critting a lil over 1k every 2.5 seconds.

i am a lvl 47 frost mage and i havent got water elemental yet but my frostbolts hit for 1000 dmg as a crit and if u include the elemental's waterbolti will be hitting for about 1.5k damage

that is extremely overpowerred pre-tbc gear

On 70 lvl the Water elemental benefits from your spell damage.On my mage I have 730 spell damage and it hits for an average 700 and crits 1200-1300 so its pretty awesome.

Does the character spell hit rating transfer over to the water elemental? I have over a 200 hit rating and rarely get resisted by bosses in raids, but it seems like the bosses often resist my elemental's ice bolts.

I came here to find out how to HEAL my water elemental. It's in the Spell info.
Casting Frostbolt on your Water Elemental will heal it for 1561. I don't know if the heal amount is lvl dependent, but it beats dismissing (or losing) the pet and then having to summon it again.
