Hi there, would someone in cata beta reply to this if they know the answer...

Looking at the new tooltip for this spell they use the new curse-->bane nomenclature. It also doesn't mention the four person summon, death, etc. thing. It also doesn't mention a need to enslave it after some period...

Is this just a temporary pet you can call out now (like treants or non-improved water elemental for druids and mages) in ADDITION to your regular pet?

The most recent post said the spell is redesigned, I'm just wondering the full extend of the redesign.

Both the doomguard and infernal make it seem thats a possiblity now...? Maybe? :)

A Doom Guard would make a perfect pet for all time ise even though it may have some micro managment problems regardless of the fact that the Doom Guard needs new spells and ablilites.

Incidentally, if a warrior is sacrificed it counts as taking damage, not just health removal - you get a ~~nearly~~ full rage bar out of the deal.

Gone are the days of having a random party member killed to summon a Doomguard, ah.. I'll miss those. The good news is now we can just summon the demon without a group/proc. :)

as of the new patch this pet seems to have a lot of HP. as a level 80 naked warlock it had 25k hp. i only saw one attack which is "doom bolt" (couldnt find the link to that skill on this site, found some other doom bolts but they didnt seem to match). it was a 2 second cast spell that was just like a shadow bolt, and it hit for 800 damage (while im naked).
with pvp gear on (6000gs) the doomguard had 50k hp! the damage of its doom bolt still seemed to be quite low though. around 2.3k per bolt. crits were 150% not 200%.

it should also be noted that i was demo and had demonic pact and i also had fel armor on.

as of right now the infernal seems a much better option. it deals more damage, has just a little less HP. it has aoe and it comes with a stun (only thing is that the summoning its not an instant cast)

i remember i got this guy like 2 weeks before the pre-cata patch....he was so OP he pwned 5 guys at the same time in bg....now he´s MUCH less powerfull....in other words...completely nerfed spell....better tu summon infernal instead

I'm not certain this needs to be mentioned, but to clarify because it hasn't been mentioned here and there was a statement about it above:
When I Summon Doomguard, my pet does NOT despawn. I have both of them out beating up the mob. And, since the Doomguard will automatically attack whatever mob has "Bane of Doom" cast upon it, and Bane of Doom has a chance to summon an Imp tossing fire at said mob, I can, and have repeatedly, had three demons under my limited control at the same time.

Now, if only I could also wrangle a stray demon using Enslave without despawning my pet.

That is because he is considered a Guardian, you can have both a 'Pet' like our demons and a Guardian as Doomguard or Infernal up at the same time.

Doomguard damage is quite insane since 4.2 hit. My warlock is currently averaged 353 ilvl and his doomguard doom bolts crits up to 42k with usual 5man buffs :|

In my opinion doomgaurds were more useful back in Wrath.. I remember almost killing somone every time right before saurfang when i would summon him. I miss all the spells he had like his warstomp and his 50% movement debuff, both were perfect for the bloodbeasts. But that was just about the only time you could use him. While i havent gotten the chance to actually test him out since 4.2 I have always preferred the infernal to him because his little baby doom bolts do next to no damage (before 4.2) while the infernal comes with an aoe stun and huge aoe dmg just for summoning him, and then he hits harder than the doomgaurd and has an AOE immolation aura. I really have missed his movement debuff as well as his warstomp though, but i guess demonolgy warlocks dont need more ways to stop people from moving the direction they want to ;). Lets all hope he becomes more useful now that they gave him some kind of a buff in 4.2

It's important to realise that the Doomguard 'snapshots' your stats at the time you summon him. Since he makes such a large contribution to your overall damage, you want to summon him with as many of the trinket/enchantment/etc buffs up as possible. For this reason, trinkets like Soul Casket are surprisingly good. However, he is not affected by metamorphosis, demon soul or time-warp.

The doomguard is practically the only thing that makes demo locks somewhat competitive in dps due to the fact that it gets huge buffs from pots, trinkets, and lightweave embroidery. But after the duration of the doomguard wears off, you'll see your dps drop down dramatically. This is pretty noticeable on bosses like ragnaros.

Still pretty hilarious to use moonwell challice, wait for dmc volcano to proc, lightweave embroidery to proc, and use a volcanic potion. You should be pulling 30-40k+ dps depending on well geared you are.

As mentioned above this cooldown does veery high damage for Demo warlocks. When summoned it takes snapshot from mastery and SP so one should use it when having all possible procs up.

This includes:
Summon Moonwell

Volcano
Volcanic Power
Power Torrent

When done so this will do closer to 1.5 million damage in BiS gear.

According to a blue post, T13 2-piece bonus is going to increase the duration of Doomguard and Infernal by 15 seconds (45 to demonology), and decrease its cooldown by 4 minutes. Either they made a typo, or it will be highly overpowered for demonology and nearly useless for other specs.

Doomguard has a known bug that works well against them in pvp. The doomguard is quick to lose attention, aggro, and will stop attacking after the 1st target is dead, no mater how many are attacking the warlock. For hunters, just misdirect 1 time, and the doomguard is useless. The Summon Infernal is NOT bugged, and if you see one, should kill the warlock immediately to bring it down.

Not sure if this is an intended mechanic, but the CD on this spell (and Infernal) will not reset upon entering a new dungeon or battleground. Also, Sacrifice does the same (Sometimes when stepping through a portal as well). Before the patch, the madness fight was the worst. Sacrifice would fade everytime you switch platforms. Making a huge disadvantage for warlocks with this talent.

Five man Warlock raids just got reaaally scary :P

Really, I can see this as a GREAT addition to any raid during the attack on the boss, especially if there's more than one of them. And if the enslave breaks? pft whatever, curse of shadow and banish are such easy and quick spells, pop em up and count to 30, you're good! run outa mana while blastin away at that boss? hah! just life tap and bandage yourself, banish that sucka till the end of the fight. Or reinslave...

i heard this doomgaurd have 3-4 times the dps then the doomguard from CoD(curse of doom). is this true? if it is it will be like a elite pet but it cost about 1g to summon and kill one of the party member too and also have 60min cooldown.

The last time i used ritual of doom to summon him, was in a simple ST run, and having recently gained this ability, i was happy to try it out... as the run had been going smoothly (being 60 helps)

The group was happy, and so we summoned him just before the prophet fight

I'll put it this way, the run went well until i got the stupid idea of summoning him...

After starting the ritual, of all the members to kill, it decided to kill our 1 and only rezer. Thankfully our priest was SS'ed, and i managed to CoS it and enslave it

priest rez'ed, buffed, and under 20 seconds from enslaving we attacked the boss fully ready

Tank was to MT, my DG was to OT...
The second the MT got into the aggro radius off the boss, my DG broke free and started wailing on me, bashed me down to 40% before i managed to re-enslave it

Sent it onto the other minion to act as an OT again, as was the plan, all while i bandaged up and got healed

Just as my doomguard was about to place his first blow and take aggro, he broke again and started heading back to me, bashed me to an inch of my life, just before i got the banish off

I believe the priest and the rogue were laughing so hard they almost fell off their chairs (ffs, throw me some help!), and we killed the two bosses off while keeping him enslaved

We then destroyed him promptly after.

Lets just say i haven't used that ritual of doom since, and doubt i ever will.

I was wondering if Blizz has any plans on balancing the Doomguard to make it more beneficial to use? As it he's a cool pet but he has extremely limited usefulness, almost to the point where its not worth wasting the time and reagent to summon him.

As is, the only real use for a Doomguard is outdoor pvp raids, and thats only if the enemies you are fighting are mostly 10+ levels lower than you. While he has cool abilties, his usefulness in BGs is limited at best considering he can be enslaved and goes down rather fast to a group of 60s.

Considering you have to sacrifice a party memebers' life and spend 1g to summon him, you would think that he would at least stay enslaved for a garaunteed 10 min or so.

Its would be really nice if they made this pet actually useful considering the trouble you have to go thru to complete the quests and to summon him. (Quests are not hard but running DM and travelling to and from blasted lands takes time, as well as sacrificing a party member, not to mention that once he breaks he b-lines right at you)

hey if Doomguard is mostly for fun, then just go to horde (or alli) starting/low level area and CoD all the low level guards and PVP noobs till u get a Doomguard then let it go on a rampage bu putting it on aggresive and when it breaks ether reenslave it or let it kill you and if you let it kill you just make sure u have a SS so u can rez and then just watch the slaughter.

yarr somehow i clicked my own doom portal once...theres a few odd spots where you're in range but i havent been able to do it again. anyone know how?

and btw...even if the pet IS useless, the doom portal is still real cool looking and you dont need to be in a group to use it, just buy a demonic figurine once, its 90s (or 1g if you somehow managed to not get the rep by lvl 60).

I solo'd every quest to get my Doomgaurd. After finally getting it I went to Stormwind and Started the summon for the Doomgaurd. I asked for help and people magically assumed what they were helping with was the Ritual of Souls to recieve a Healthstone. But as a larger and larger crowd gathered and the summoning happened, panic was EVERYWHERE! for some reason, no one had expected that giant beast. I just /laugh.
So, what i see the only good coming from this spell and more is for Warlock Lottery (Having guildmates help summon, winner is whoever randomly dies, they win the gold) and just to cause destruction on the allience. I would have rolled horde.

You summon the doomguard through the ritual SS yourself as you are the one needing to enslave. Then you walk into a lowbie town and summon an infernal. Once this is acomplished the Doomguard will break free and turn on you. Just let it kill you. Once you die the infernal and doomguard now at full potential as they are no longer under the enslavement will make fun work of whatever town you have left them in. Rez right before they die and move in with your buddies.

kk if you all are so worried about the quest line, and the reagent cost, and the killing of 1 party member. then why in the world would you not simply use the curse.

And since this is a trophy pet, its not supposed to be very reliable.

The only useful thing i could possibly see using this for is going to goldshire and using it to maim innocent noobs....and (risky) grinding.

ok, so to give a comparison my buddy and I, both demo spec'd, had a felgaurd duel an enslaved Doomguard. We both have gear that are fairly matched with each other. In the end they both came down at the same rate. The match ended in a tie more or less because the felgaurd died with the doomgaurd at < 5% health. I think without cripple the felgaurd would have won.

Note: if you cast ritual of doom in a city (easiest place to get volunteers) make sure you do it a *long* way from any guards. I cast it in IF and the guards killed it before I was able to finish enslaving it.

Also, since the ritual is guaranteed to kill a random one of the participants (zero durability damage tho), you should make sure you have a priest/shaman/pally/druid rezzer nearby, and if that healer is participating in the ritual also have them soulstoned in case they're the one who dies.

Had my share of fun with this spell during an MC run... Popped Curse of Doom on Shazzrah, and fortunately it procced and killed the boss which was the last element of the fight. Then the DG appeared and people started screaming on Ventrilo, unable to figure out what was suddenly attacking the raid! Hilarious!

What I do is, I go to Crossroads, get 5 people, tell them I'll run them through something, and cast the ritual.
When one of them dies, I banish the thing and yell "Hit the Doomguard for free weapon skills! When I have 10 beating on him, or so, I hellfire myself to death, and watch him slaughter the lowbies, when guards aggro, he 3 shots them. It's great.

Just a thought...

Would the Doomguard be useful in a high level raid boss fight? If you CoS then Enslave to make it last longer... i would think the Doomguards CRIPPLE ability would reduce a bosses effectiveness.

I imagine gathering the group for the fight pre-agro. Summon the Doomguard. Rez the person who was sacraficed (+heal), then engage the boss.

Or to save more time, start the fight and battle rez the person who was sacraficed.

As long as your MT and Healers don't participate in the summoning ritual, wouldnt they be safe?

Another thought...

If in a RAID with multiple locks, summon the Doomguard, cast CoS while other locks cast CoD... THEN Enslave. Send it at the raid boss with the MT. You now have a 1 minute death timer on the Doomguard, but during that 1 minute, the BOSS would be crippled due to the Doomguards help.

What do you think? If CoS persists after enslaving, i would think CoD would also.

The "dude's name in Tainted scar of the blasted lands is "Daio the decrepit", loc 35,59, which is NW of the path into tainted scar.

The 2 preq quests are:
The prison's bindings -go to dire maul in ferals recover 15 satyr blood from the wildspawn in the warpwood quarter.

the prisons' casings: Travel to darkwhisper gorge in winterspring, recover 5 tears of the hederine from the hederine demons.

the enslave doesn't really last that long and it's even shorter the next time you enslave.
Got one of these and used it for 10 seconds, then I had to kill it.

The perfect group to summon one of these in is 2 warlocks(just in case a warlock dies and the doomguard has to be enslaved) 2 preists(just in case a preist dies and needs to be rezed) and a mage to polymorph the doomguard when the enslavement timer is up) icant wait for this ability

The Doomguard is for:
1) High level instances
2) Random acts of violence in low level areas
3) Going to the opposing faction's main town with a raid party of 40 and summoning 8 of them without enslaving for total chaos. (You have to train them in to Orgrimmar or Stormwind for better results,though.)
4) Harrasing random idiots by saying you have to summon someone with 5 people instead of 3.....

So you see, it has many proctical and fun applications in the real world today.

To the lvl 10 that got pwned by the Doomlord: getting killed by the opposite side does not damage gear so the rep that you had to pay for was already there. (or else PvP would be to expensive even for the extreme hardcore players!)

why would you even want this except for pvp maybe, wouldnt it just be better to cast curse of doom on mobs untill you get your doomguard. doesnt seem worth it when curse of doom dont involve killing party member and is trainer bought, and this requires hard quest to do. even if you are in pvp raid, you could just cast curse of doom on guards and still get your doom guard, it only says it cant be casted on players.

I wonder why this is even in the game. Just for showoff I hope cause its totally useless to a group. As a warlock I would never want to sacrifice a group member just to have a doom guard by my side (which I would have to waste lots of shards on to control).

Its like you have a candy store in your little town, but its never open or they dont let you in.

SO I enter WSG waiting for the battle to start. It was my first time in since TBC so I tried the Soul Well and it did summon but no one was able to get a master healthstone so I was like WTH and I did ritual of doom hahaha. I got me doomguard, people were like WTF, NICE! (other warlocks of course), ROFL, LOL, OMFG, and "WTH IS THAT THING" (c'mon buddy... your a level 69 and your asking wth a doomguard is). SO yeah I had my 4 min of glory in the battle grounds. After the hour cooldown was up I tried summoning a doomguard again on another BG and some guy is like "click for healthstone" thinking it was ritual of souls.... NOT!... hahaha got me Doomguard again and this time I camped the alliance grave yard mawhahahaha. It's about time the horde camped some GY. On my server camped grave yards (before TBC BGs sucked on Turalyon since the alliance would camp the GY :( ). Btw we capped the flag twice while me and another lock (64) camped the GY (Doomguard FTW!).

This spell is now available from the quest Suppression from Daio the Decrepit in Classic. Not sure when it was made available, or if it was always available. I thought it was supposed to be added in a later phase, but I just picked it up today in phase 2.
