Unless one is planning on doing a lot of tanking, this talent is not really good. There is probably better talents tos pend points in than this.

Remember that this improves your armor BEFORE changing into bear. 100% -> +400% = 500% armor
110% -> +400% = 550% armor.

If you plan to tank in PvE, this is a must.

One thing to keep in mind is that Druid gear in general and PvP gear in perticular have more armor (meaning that item points have been spent on increasing the armor value). Furthermore, warriors and paladins have to spend 5 talent points for the 10% armor increase.

All in all this is very good value for money. However, if you are a tanking druid and hit the armor cap (35880) then consider placing your talent points elsewhere.

I'm not sure how good this talent will be with the supposed changes that are being done with bear armor. The changes I am referring to are:

Removing armor from staves, and making armor bonuses on equipment apply after the 370% bonus goes into effect. These changes will significantly reduce the amount of armor a bear can have, forcing them to instead rely on talents like this and this for damage mitigation. I don't know how truthful that is, but if it pans out, I think you'd be better off bolstering your stam and agi ratings and putting the talent points somewhere that'll let you make more threat than trying to push your armor to the cap; what I mean, is if our mitigation is going to come mainly from dodging and talented mitigation now instead of flat armor bonuses, I feel like this talent is obsolete, especially in fights that require you to shift into kitty to help dps.

But, survival of the fittest is also getting a huge buff that has a lot to do with armor in this next patch. Our armor from the staff change should see little difference unless you already have all the best armor trinks and weapons.

You actually brought up something I've been wondering about...

With SotF and this talent, you'll be getting 76% more armor from equipment for 6 talent points...does that add up enough to warrant the extra 3 talent points for 10% of that armor? Has anyone checked to see what their armor would be with and without this talent, all other things considered equal?

This is a useful talent for pre-WotLK bear tanks for sure, and also useful for some end game tanks who are not yet near their armor cap.

Thick hide in cataclysm will now be that little bit better. The two talents of armour being put into the same talent for starters, and it now says 'increases armor while in bear form by an additional 33%'. This 33% has been changed from armor from items to just flat armor. So it would go:
1*1.43*1.2(non-cata, 6 talent points)=1.7160=x
1*1.1*1.33*1.2(cata, 3 points)=1.7556=y
y/x=0.977
You're gaining an additional 0.977% armor than before cataclysm.

Does anyone know if you need all 3 points into thick hide to get the daze immunity? Or would it just be 1 point into it. Or does it work like 2% reduction per talent point, 3 points into the talent is complete daze immunity. Just annoyed by that mechanic now that we have been immune all these years :)

So, if I understand correctly, all the bonuses apply in any form, except the additional armor in bear form, right?

I'm not saying it would be viable to tank as a kitty or anything, but it's pretty cool for PvP that you get those reductions in any form.
