I am grinding up my Troll Rogue (aptly named Kaij) right now and I have to say that a Combat build focusing on Swords and Blade Flurry is absolutely remarkable. Combat Rogues can normally take on 3 even-leveled NPCs at a time (Sap A, Blind B, stunlock C to death, stunlock B to death, stunlock A to death).

With the addition of Blade Flurry, Kaij is now taking on 4-5 even-leveled NPCs at a time, every two minutes, without any problems. The trick is, even though Blade Flurry says it hits an additional opponent, to make sure you focus on ONE NPC at a time. Get your five combo points (each attack - including Sinister Strike! - will hit another NPC as well) and unleash an Eviscerate. If your rogue is anything like mine (approx. 20% crit chance) you will drop both NPCs at once in 8-12 seconds. This leaves just enough time to drop two of the remaining NPCs to 50-60% health AND you'll still have another one Sapped! Easily one of the most powerful Rogue talents out there.

Even without swords, this is an extremely useful talent. When leveling your rogue, I advise you to specialize in combat until you get this talent, and your preferred weapon specialization.

The combination of the two will create very nice and useful boost to your combat (white) damage. Having a white damage boost makes leveling easier, for it is not dependant on your abilities, and as far as the leveling rogue is concerned, the only thing you will need to do is get 5 combination points, and let loose your Slice and Dice combined with Blade Flurry, and literally watch the enemies hit the floor!

Moreover, troll rogues can benefit especially well with this talent.

The rogue can build combo points up, unleash a Slice n' Dice finishing move that will increase their melee attack speed. Then, they can activate Blade Flurry to further increase the attack speed. Finally, the troll rogue can even activate their Berserk racial talent, increasing the attack speed EVEN MORE. From what I can tell, the effects stack on one another, making my rogue's attacks a blazing stream of damage.

The damage is increased even MORE when I activate the 31-point--talent Adrenaline rush.

Apply some instant poisons to both blades, and you certainly have a force to be reckoned with.

It should be noted that the blade flurry ability cannot crit the second target. In the event of a crit on the main target, blade flurry deals the crit damage, but is not a crit itself.

This ability also works with backstab, and applies the damage without requiring that you be behind the second target.

The way I use Blade Flurry works like this:

I see two mobs, cheap shot one of them, pop Blade Flurry and use the two points I got from the cheap shot to pop a slice n' dice and just see the white damage flow over my screen.

This, if you ask me, the best way to use Blade Flurry since you will have a high attack speed which really deals ALOT of damage.

I believe BF only effects up to 3 targets (one being the actual target, and the other two surrounding opponents). Also, it seems the attacks on the 3rd target are weaker.

I've tried several times to stack 3-4 opponents on top of each other and use BF, the 4th target wasn't damaged and the 3rd had minimal damage.

Im sure BF used to attack more than just 1 extra mob pre BC but not anymore...... I guess they felt it needed nerfed a bit and so now it only attacks 1 extra target close by. :( What u described with the BF only attacking some mobs a little and some mobs alot is down to u and the mobs moving slightly, when this hapens the BF targeting can swap between the mobs so it looked like u were damaging some more than others.
Not as powerfull as it used to be but still an awesome weapon when used right with SnD and AR.

Say if I use Blade Flurry, and crit Sinister Strike on a Bear Druid for 400, and theres another rogue on me.. will my Blade flurry hit the rogue for only 400? or will it do the normal crit on rogue for 1k??

Be aware that if you use blade flurry while stealthed, it will unstealth you.

I'm a combat rogue and i think that BF is very useful when solo-ing, because you'll be very often in contact with at least 2 mobs at once.. cool thing to do is quickly get 5 cp on one target and then eviscerate, 'cause u'll also eviscerate the other mob.

Also useful against shamans: if totems are close, u'll destroy them

Outstanding ability in PvE, effectively doubles your damage output and allows you to survive accidental adds while soloing.

In dungeons and raids, be careful as the extreme damage output could grab aggro away from the tank.

Somewhat useless in PvP, after all if you're outnumbered by PCs, you're gonna die anyway. Might help if two lower levels are trying to team up and gank you.

Here is a question for you rogues out there.

I was just fighting two Gnolls in Ferelas. Well I crit one with Eviscerate for 634 damage while blade flurry was activated. My blade flurry hit the second Gnoll for 709!!!

I am a little confused about this. I thought that Blade Flurry simply duplicated the damage you produced without adding any kind of bonus. Now after reading the comments I here I suppose it's possible one Gnoll had less armor than the other. One was a Trapper and the other a Brute. The brute being a warrior and trapper a hunter type. The BF hit for 709 was on the hunter type while the eviscerate was on the brute.

Well anyway I guess I answered my own question but I still think it was neat.

By the way I am a 43 rouge in average gear and those were my two highest hits yet on this toon. Was pretty awesome to have two hits in a row that big. =] I have leveled a warrior, hunter, and shaman to max level before and I love all three but this rogue has been a blast so far. Just started the toon a few weeks ago, my shaman will stay my main forever but this rogue is a lot of fun.

edit: I also wanted to comment on the first post. Did slice and dice used to give a greater increase in attack speed per combo point? Otherwise I don't really see the point in doing a 5 point slice and dice. Even without the improved talent a two point S&D is more than enough. I have 3 pts in imp S&D and I usually devote 1 combo point to S&D per fight. If its a tougher mob I might have to do it again to extend it but usually the mob dies before it runs out.

because I read this in osiris' guide: "Once you gain some confidence you should utilize blade flurry and adrenaline rush. Gather up two mobs (three if you think you can handle it) and kill them at the same time. This is a great time to use evasion as well. Throw in evasion and you can handle 4, even 5 if you're good."

Having a white damage boost makes leveling easier, for it is not dependant on your abilities

That is just wrong. While levelling your white damage will be low, since you will most of the time be wielding a weak weapon, whereas most who have reached the level cap wield strong ones. Increasing white damage is not the best way to improve levelling speed. While levelling you rely on the base damage of your abilities, when you hit the level cap you want abilities that scale.

Blade Flurry is still a truly amazing talent, and one of the few ways rogues effectively can take down several mobs at a time. With a cooldown of just two minutes, it can be used almost every fight.

Don't use this when grouped unless you are fighting just one mob, or the tank have asked you to, as it will make you skyrocket on the threat list of both your target, and the second mob. Keep your tank happy!

Check out our new glyphs. Two in particular are very interesting for this talent: Glyph of Blade Flurry reduces the enegry requirement to 0 and Glyph of Preparation will refresh Blade Flurry along with Dismantle. I bet we start seeing some 0/21/50 PvP rogues abusing this. Two free Blade Flurries back to back, makes me smile just thinking about it :-)

a 3-combo point Slice and Dice is all that is required to keep your SnD up for the duration of Blade Flurry.

Actually 1 point Improved S&D is 14.5 secs. If you are getting BF, I don't see why you won't also pick up Improved S&D. So whichever one you pop first will expire first.

Dont forget you can take on even more depending on your gear im a lvl 70 fully epiced rogue dont have WOTLK yet. But i will soon anyway i can take out 8 lvl 69-71 mobs at one time i dont use any items just raw power it all depends on your gear skill and spec.

Hi to all rogues out there, i ve been playing rogue since 60lvl but only recently started raiding seriously. Here goes my question: could possibly someone answer whats the exact range of Blade Flurry? I ve tried to check for myself but the mechanism just says its a self effect(like a buff). To make myself more clear, i m having a hard time to understand what's the max distance i can have from a mob(creature) to hit it (as a 2nd target) with Blade Flurry. Please pardon me for my englsih (as its not my mother language) and thank you for ur time reading this. Looking forward to a response.

Attack speed taken off AND a -20% energy regen added. All in all, I think it is a buff, however I think it should instead be toggleable. It should read;

Blade Flurry
While active, reduces energy regeneration by 20%, but causes all of your strikes to deal duplicate damage on a nearby enemy target. Lasts until cancelled.

This would allow rogues a little more versatility in AoE situations. Do note that the -20% energy regen basically nullifies Combat's Vitality. 100% + 25% = 125% * .8 = 100%

All in all, though, I am happy to see the change in Cata, if it remains!

EDIT: On a side note, this skill is AWESOME when coupled with Killing Spree. Use this macro;

Even though we are losing the +20% Attack speed, Adrenaline Rush will give that to us. So in a Boss Fight, we will have the +20% Attack speed at almost the same rate as we had with Blade Flurry (I say almost because of the cooldown difference of 1 minute). Not quite sure how it will affect our DPS, we'll just have to wait and see.

I still agree with ArashikageClan though, it does sound odd that the combat specialization main ability is a "level-up only" tool. And since the only glyph announced at the moment was this one, we'll just have to wait for some change (if it ever happens). If not, at least we know we still have the +20% Attack speed :)

To respond to the comment by Archangel, you can create a macro to "toggle" it, almost. Obviously, after it falls off, you can't put it back up unless it comes off cooldown. But you can remove the buff easily, a macro for that would be this:

/cast Blade Flurry

How it works:
Click once to activate Blade Flurry, and click again to cancel. Quite simple, really. I use the same concept for Enrage while tanking to give me rage, then avoid the increased physical damage taken when mobs are on me.

I'm sure others have noticed, but there is a range on Blade Flurry that seems to be based on how far you'd normally need to be from an enemy..
I'd be curious for someone who has the addons and time (both of which I don't have) to figure out the range(s) necessary for Blade Flurry to hit.

Edit: Something I've been taking note of, over time. The range on Blade Flurry seems to be normal melee ranged, based around yourself - not your initial target. So if you're fighting that big enemy with a huge target area who brought small target area friends with him? You'll have to adjust accordingly. ;P

One major thing to note, is that Blade Flurry does not work with poisons or bleeds. Meaning that it will not apply poisons or bleeds to all mobs with the Blade Flurry effect. Just wanted to clarify the confusion.

Energy regen rate, with no talents/improvements/etc, is10 energy per second.

Vitality increases it by 20%. That means 12 energy per second. It would take 8 1/3 seconds for your energy bar to go from 0 to 100.

With Blade Flurry, that is decreased by 20%. That means ~9.6 energy per second. It would take ~10.5 seconds for your energy bar to refill completely.

If Blade Flurry is glyphed, that means it's only a 15% decrease. The result would be 10.625 energy per second, just a little over normal energy regen rate and about 9.5 seconds for your energy bar to refill.
Glyph of changed with the Pandaria expansion, now increases poison application rate.

Edit: Updated for Pandaria changes and again for 5.2 changes.

Just to make it clear once and for all :

1. Blade flurry is now toggle ability.
2. It does not break stealth when you activate it.
3. Dealing damage to the main target while using blade flurry will duplicate your damage (100%) to the target next to it but it will not transfer DoTs (garrote, rupture, poisons) nor instant poison damage.

Just to clarify some confusion on "how to succesfully apply blade flurry" with some ascii graphics.
Predefinitions:
1-Melee range:Melee range is maximum range that you can land melee abilities,in this case.According to wowwiki ,melee range in World of Warcraft is 5 yards maximum.
2-Circular Melee area:According to me,circular melee area is a circular area (obviously :)) which is centered at player and has radius of 5 yards.
3-C1 and C2 are creatures
4- (-> -Let's assume this is player and looks to right.(direction is shown with '>' character ).
5- Minus sign (-) represents 1 yard distance in graphics.

Blade Flurry copies melee damage(no poison no bleed) from your target creature to another creature in circular melee area.Blade flurry has no direction penalty.It's possible to damage a target behind you with BF on.Here are some examples for this mechanic;

Case 1-Let's assume there are creatures which are 2 and 5 yards away from you and both are in front of you.You damage 2 yard target,BF copies is to 5 yard target.Or you damage 5 yard target and BF copies it to 2 yard target.

(->--(C1)---(C2) BF can copy damage from from C1 to C2 or from C2 to C1

Case 2-Let's assume there are creatures which are 5 and 6 yards away from you and both are in front of you.Obviously you can't damage target 6 yards away from you because of melee range.But you can damage 5 yards away from you ,BF can not copy your damage 6 yards target since that target is 6 yards away from you.So,distance between targets are irrelevant,only your distance to targets matter.

(->-----(C1)-(C2) BF doesnt work here,one target is not in your melee range.

Case 3-Let's assume there are two creatures,one is 2 yards away,in front of you and another one is 5 yards away,behind you.You damage 2 yard target,BF copies your damage to the target which is 5 yards behind you.

(C2)-----(->--(C1) If you damage C1 ,BF copies your melee damage to C2.

For example in warmaster fight,if melee adds are 8 yards away from each other and your tanks slacks to stack them exactly at same point,just position yourself betweencreatures equally and enjoy Blade flurry.

I do not even mention creatures to your right or to your left since,BF can work for creatures for behind so obviously will work creatures at side of you too.

Blade Flurry now deals 75% less damage.

Ouch man, that hurts :(, i think someone forgot to tell blizz that rogues are already almost the least played class at 90 (Monks are slightly behind but gaining fast).

EDIT: Update!

Blade Flurry now hits four targets instead of two.

Will that turn it around? We shall see!

Ghostcrawler, on 5.2 PTR Class and Set Bonus Issues

We are still iterating on Blade Flurry. We feel like the implementation of Blade Flurry on live forces rogues to go Combat on any cleave fights, while leaving Combat too far behind on any single target fights. It's fine if the rogue specs have niches, but the niches shouldn't be so rigid that you don't feel like you have any choice in spec. Blade Flurry will be how Combat does 2-5 target AoE damage. In the next PTR build, it deals 40% of normal damage to up to 4 additional targets, for a 20% energy regen reduction.

I love combining this with Killing Spree when attacking 2 mobs. Basically kills them both within a few seconds, and is great when you need to kill X amount of mob!

For patch 5.2, blade flurry is changing dramatically. According to the latest patch notes as of today (Wednesday before the patch release), " now strikes up to 4 additional nearby targets for 40% of normal damage." With this and crimson tempest, rogues will be more balanced with other classes' AOE damage.

As per the patch notes for 5.4:

"Killing Spree targeting has been changed. If Blade Flurry is not active, Killing Spree will now hit the Rogue's target 7 times or pick the closest eligible target if none had been selected. Killing Spree will continue to work as it has while Blade Flurry is active." (emphasis my own).

This will be helpful in encounters where multiple targets are in close proximity but you only want to do damage to one of them (i.e. the trash before Lei Shen where one has a shield and one does not).

The nice thing about blade fury is that it has a 2 min timer which isn't that bad.

This skill hits 2 closely-grouped targets for the at the same time for the same dmg.

Most of the time this skill is not more usefull than slice/dice. However when you find yourself double-teamed - fear not! When combined with evasion or evasion + adrenaline rush you can easly fight your way out of a what would otherwise be a death from adds.

Slice/Dice does seem to stack with this visually in the icon effects but I can't say if you actually _attack_ faster or not.

I would have to say this really on has PvE usage. I can't image being duo'ed in PvP very often and living to talk about it.

when you hit 2 mobs make sure you are hitting the one with lowest lvl or the spellcaster if there are any beacause they have the least armor reduction and the other mob takes the same dmg plus you cant use kick or gauge to stop spells at the second mob.

and yes this ability works togather with slice and dice

I'm two talent points away from getting this.

I just recently unlearned my talents around 34 or so and I'm combat specing until 55+. I was getting some good damage from ambush and stuff but after that point, it was a long haul to kill just one mob member; let alone multiple.

Now, I cheap shot the spell casters and lay waste them them, then take out (typically) two others that were aggroed.

In Altrec, I was killing ogres and miscalculated a pat. So just as I'm about done killing a lvl 36 (I was 36 at the time), the 37 pat sees me and starts attacking. I don't think I used a healing potion, might have but I took him out just as easy and my weapons at the moment suck. I have a sword that is more for lvl 20s and the claw of the shadowmancer (the dagger doesn't necessarily suck for my lvl but I'm doing sword speccing so I'm looking to be done with it soon). I was getting good crits before I unlearned talents off ambush just under 500 at one point, but doing it combat specced I'm getting the same damage over time and constantly.

Had I still been mainly dagger before, I would have died fighting that ogre.

not sure if this is valid or not but when you activate it could you perhaps be running into 2 alys perhaps and need to kill both of them farily quickly. would cheap shot be targeted to two mobs/players as well? as sweeping strikes and execute seems to work with a warrior why wouldnt this work with ambush or any other rog abil? im suggesting this as to use blade flurry then stealth.

This things owns. Get it!=) My rogue uses this only for the "holy crap, im outnumberd" situations that might happen every once in a while. Altho sometimes i pull 2 just becuse i can take them=) Killing 2 mobs is like a walk in the park with this ability.

just wondering b4 i get this if my group is fighting 2 guys and 1 gets saped, sheeped, or whatever. will it automaticlay damage the saped guy and bring him out or will i be safe to use it?

edit: that is, if you hit the one that is sapped, sheeped, etc. all i can offer is to try to angle yourself away from the stunned mob.

This ability seems to stack with Slice 'N Dice *and* with berserking for my Troll Rogue. The damage potential is enough to bring a sentimental tear to my eye.

this is a gem in the battlegrounds when you get a add running in, hit evasion (if no warrior present) blade flurry / SnD and you away, keep cloth / leather targeted first as the dmg done to the mail wearer will be the same as if he was wearing cloth, lol

Clearing the groups of mobs around a chest in a low level instance is a breeze with this nifty skill. Stealth up, pop a cheap shot - Adreneline rush, use the 2 combo points to do slice- and dice - then use Blade furry. I can clear a few chests in the lower level SM instances, with a lvl 47 Rogue. You want to do this with heavy hitting maces or dagger spec with posions and damage procs. I can't even count the amount of times a fiery goes off in this situation, I couldn't tell you or not if the fiery hits the other target, but they usually die at the same time so who cares.

First thing, I believe blizzard fixed it so that slice and dice takes into account the added mobs armor, so hitting the squishy first wouldn't matter.

Armor set willing I can take on so many things with this talent. The winterspring runners, I've actually killed the adds before the targeted mob went down (happens a lot). I typically pick the armored target first so I can stun them and the clothie add dies before I'm done. The north furbolg camp and the mobs surrounding the winterspring furbolg I can take on with this talent. I typically sap the far left one and pull them all back to the mound while targeting the winterspring furbolg. I haven't successfully taken on the chief furbolg in winterspring yet, he hits hard :\.

This also helps with farming cause if I haven't tagged the add yet, someone can just come along and tag him before I do. But with this, so many times people have tried pulling the mob away only to find they can't loot. I giggle, loot and move on.

Then on boss fights I hit this and S&D; and just drool. Boss fights are the only place I use S&D; by the way, not on regular mobs like I mentioned above, I'd rather save the combo points for a stun or evis to end the fight faster. Which ever mob I'm targeting is the one I want to drop quickly.

From what i can tell

-Poisons hit both while expending one
-One can be in front of you and one behind, so its in a full circle around you
-If you do a full evis on the main mob, it will hit for that much on the second mob
-Can the Secondary hits crit?

This does indeed stack with SnD. This is probably the closest thing a rogue can get to an AoE, but even if it didn't have the ability to hit two opponents, it still stacks with SnD and will give you a LOT of strikes. If you have any trinkets that increase AP, crits, etc and you need to boost your dps at that moment, pope the trinket and blade flurry and watch the numbers fly.

Also, use with AR (Adrenaline Rush) if you're fighting two opponents. You'll get some really nice numbers by spamming Sinister Strike while under the influcence of AR and Blade Flurry.

Furthermore, if you Eviscerate an opponent, the blade flurry will also carry that over to the adjectent opponent!

Blade Flurry = 20%
SnD = 30%
Berserking = 10-30%

combining to create a total of 60% or 80% attack speed increase.
