I got 2 the first day. When u first get in the water in vaj and there are 100s of skinnable corpses. I havent seen one since then. I am 85 now and have skinned at least 1k mobs including regs and a couple of heroics. There is a problem with the drop rate if I see 2 in one day and none for next 7.

i think they went overboard with the nerf too, skinned 472 stone bats last night in deepholme, everyone dropped trsh, 16 dropped bloated stomachs, 21 greens to DE but not a single pristine hide. In fact i havent had a single pristine hide off anything in the last 3 days.

on my server (silvermoon eu) the price of pristine hides has gone from 42g last week, to almost 700g this week, so the nerf has hit the prices hard :)

Yes the drop rate does seem to be terrible for these. Leveling from 81-85 I have skined about 2500mobs and have gotten only 9 of these in total. And for 10 heavy savage leather (50 savage leather) you can buy them in Twilight Highlands. Seems to acually even out this way. One thing I think they need to correct is lowering the Skinning level on Heroic bosses from 530 down to 525 where it should be. And they should increase the chance to get more the 1x Savage leather per lvl 85+ mob. I have skinned a lot of heroic trash and never had more then 1x Savage leather drop where in Wotlk they "could" drop serveral and did quite often.

Just FYI to any skinners running randoms and happen to skin one off a mob by chance. If there are 4 other people in your group that do not know what a Pristine Hide is you may need to explain... Fast!

I was actually booted from a Grim Batol pug that thought I ninja'd a blue item when it dropped off a dragon I skinned. In case anyone is wondering why you can't roll on them, it is not considered a blue drop by the group loot. This also goes for Arctic Furs in Wrath of the Lich King.

I have skinned over 1k corpses and have never received this hide.

You are able to trade in 10 Heavy Savage Leather (50 savage leather to make the heavy savage) to Threm Blackscalp in Twilight Highlands for horde(Hide & Leather Trader), or Misty Merriweather in Twilight Highlands for Alliance (Hide & Leather Trader).

I have heard, however, others are getting some of their Pristine Hide from lvl 85 elite skinnables (not confirmed).

Truly this hide is really hard to get from skinning, as was the Arctic Fur in WOTLK.
But i remember that the first week when WOTLK came out i got about 10 Arctic Furs, but after that i think Blizz nerfed the drop rate.
In Cata i skinned 2 Pristine hides in about 2 hours in the 1st day.
The first was from a Hyjal Stag in the 4th kill, and the second was from Nemesis, during the quest Finish Nemesis, along with 3 Savage Leathers as well.
But after those, and a load of kills, not a single Pristine Hide so far...:(

P.S.: In my server (Steamwheedle Cartel EU, RP), the AH prices were about 95-100g at the 1st week, but recently they have raised to about 480g each. :O

The drop rate is totally screwed. I haven't even seen one on my main. Not only did I skin like a m**f** the release day but also have farmed quite a bit to lvl my LW. I have skinning on an alt aswell which I got to 85 the other day and he only got one Pristine hide.

Were is this nurf you're talking about? The drop rate has been really low this whole time for me.

After about 20 stacks of leather from the crocs next to Baradin Hold, ive found 2 so far. It seems that the drop rate is very low. Only need 1 more to craft the new epic chest piece :)

I have been farming to level my Leatherworking for the past 2 days, and I have had the most fortunate drop rate from the mobs in the Obsidian Forest in the Twilight Highlands. I do not know if this is just the RNG or not, but each of the 4 Pristine Hides have been from Obsidian Viletongues.

I just skinned a total of about 200 mobs. 0 hides. I usually skin the dragonkins in TWH for blackened scales and the extra gold from dragon flank. I've manage to get one single pristine hide during my lvling from 80-85 skinning varius types of beasts. Seems pretty unreasonble to me:< you'd think blizzard want to give you that extra thrill from farming. now you just got to trade them for other materials instead. boo.

Theese can be expensive on AH (on my server they go for 450-650g atm) but if you have Leatherworking you can get them easily by buying Savage Leather and converting into Heavy Savage Leather via Leatherworking and then convert thoose into Pristine Hide via Misty Merriweather (For alliance) or Threm Blackscalp (For horde)

5x Savage Leather = 1x Heavy Savage Leather

10x Heavy Savage Leather = 1x Pristine Hide

which means that 50x Savage Leather = 1x Pristine Hide

Since Savage Leather goes for 6g each on my server that means I can get a Pristine Hide for 300g (50*6=300) and if I want resell them for 600g+ if I sell them at the right time which is the double price! :)

Edit: On some servers you can even buy Savage Leather Scraps and start from there. Not profitable on my server tho.

It is clear that Blizz cut the skinning rate on these way down (I've only gotten 2 out of a few thousand skins since they changed it; before that I got over 25). However, perhaps it is a reaction to the auction house prices for the various things we skinners do get (something they had no way of precisely predicting when they first released Cataclysm). We get the following from the drops and skins:

gold and vendor trash
greens and a few blues that can be auctioned
savage leather and blackened dragonscale that can be auctioned and crafted
and once in a while a rare pristine hide

Since each pristine hide is worth 50 savage leather (and currently brings in hundreds of gold in the auction houses), that might have been viewed as an excessive benefit for skinners in comparison to other crafts. Also, too many pristine hides depresses the AH prices for savage leather. From a purely economics viewpoint, it probably all evens out in the long run in terms of the net gold that we make.

These Hides must be pretty damn rare. i've leveled my Skinning to 525 and have done ALOT of Skinning in Cata. Been farming stacks of Savage and also Blackened Dragonscales for Armor i'm going to have a LW craft for me. And have made a fortune from stacks i've sold at the AH. Anyways, i haven't received a SINGLE Pristine Hide - NOT ONE! i was starting to think it must only drop in Cata dungeons or something...

Agreed on the drop rate, din't get 1 during leveling on 2 chars, and even now while crafting i never seen one from hc's or mob's, always have to buy them witch makes heavy leather still very expensive thing.

I've been skinning (Riverbed Crocolisk)Riverbed Crocolisk for Savage Leather and Crocolisk Tails to AH and I get a Pristine Hide about every other trip down. They also respawn quite fast so its easy to just go up and down the Northwest river stretch by Ramkahen.

You really only need 7 pristine hides to make the only epic gear that is used for any one class spec plus the leg armor, other than that just keep a few in storage for any new gear that can be crafted or spend ur time crafting some gear some to sell... well good luck skinning this.

I have had two skinners active since cata went live; I've probably skinned close to 30 stacks of savage leather per week, mostly the crocs and spiders in Tol Barad and drakes & dragonkin in Twilight Highlands (level 84-85 mobs). Based on this, I've probably skinned well over 5000 mobs.

My personal experience is that the skin rate of the pristine hide is abysmally low - I've seen two drop, both on day one of live, and never one skinned since; if someone asked me, I'd say that you don't get them at all from skinning and only from turning in heavy savage hides at the hide trader.

I keep skinning General Umbriss in heroic Grim Batol but he refuses to give up more than one or two savage leather.

My problem is this. First there are 2 places listed with "decent drop rates" that require you to avoid quests. Naga in Hyjal disappear after you finish the first half of them, shredders are green after you complete northern flank. So if you don't know you can skin that particular Mechanical (which has never been skinable prior to this) you screw yourself off the start. second I have bought some of the patterns from the Hide and skin guy in Twilight Highlands but still have 35 to go at this point. If you do the math, you already know that is 350 Heavy Savage Leather. Seems to me this method is highly unbalanced. Ok, so people were making a killing selling them in AH why not make them SB instead of so rare that you can kill everything in sight for weeks and not see a single one. My skinning has been 525 since about 2 weeks after the release of cataclysm. Considering she hit 80 2 days after the release, not too bad. And I have yet to see a single hide from anything I have skinned. I don't care that the drop rate on the items listed is so very low. I do, however, care that to get them I have to roll another toon up and get their skinning high enough, then avoid certain quests all together to maintain the ability to skin what I need for them. No LW should be put in a position where they have to choose between getting patterns or getting hides and that is precisely where I am.

I have actually gotten far more than just 2 heavy savage leather from heroic trash mobs. Sometimes 2, and sometimes one and a blackened dragonscale in grim batol.
However i got just 1 pristine hide along my skinning training... ALL OF IT... one.
for bosses you just need "GATHERER" enchant on a pair of gloves, pop them on and voila! 530 skill in skinning (or mining, or herbalism).

I'm surprised no one mentioned Shark Tank out in Tol Barad. I farm Tank on the reg and get like one per week, not a high drop rate, but just so ya know, if you kill it, and skin it, you have a chance of getting one.

Just an update on what else in Tol Barad you can get a pristine hide from if you skin it. I was farming the spiders in the middle of the penninsule for savage leather to finish my grind in leatherworking, and one of the spiders i skinned, produced one. So i'm startin to think that there are no animals that want drop it, just some more then other. Also the spider, if you farm, the big ones give 2 sheets of savage leather about 50% of the time.

At the cata launch... like the first week, I got like 10 or 15 of these... right after kinda of three weeks before, the drop rate has been lowered because it has droping very easily, but after this last patch it's kinda impossible... none droped in twenty days farming elites and common beasts. It's true that is not very hard to farm some leathers and buy one, but that it's not ideal too... because every beast drops leather so the price of everything this hide do is lowering. I think it stoped to drop at all.

edit: In the cata launch, the 'savage leather' almost didnt drop and scraps are droping alot, but that isnt bad I did alot of leather... other thing unbalanced is that stomach thing, drops volatiles... droped ALOT of them at the start... several. And scales too. Now the only thing I do see droping is savage leather.

I have yet to get one of these after skinning well over 1,000 savage leather... I took a break right before Cata launched, so I came back after the drop rate was nerfed. Would've liked to have been here while they were so easy to obtain lol.

EDIT: Finally got one off of the Stone Drakes in Deepholm while farming Blackened Dragon Scales and Dragon flanks :)

Skinned all mobs that were skinnable questing from 80-85 and never once got one of these. I skinned ALOT I have no count but I'm sure it was in the 1000s. Very bad drop rate but the good news is I didn't have to buy them from the ah since I also LW and can use Heavy Savage Leather as Currency to get these.

Now I've levelled Skinning from 0-525, farming all the leather myself, I'm easily over 1000 Savage Leather skinned in total, plus all the scraps etc.

I have yet to see even one Pristine Hide drop, it's the reason I came here, to see if it dropped at all from mobs, the comments say yes, the "Skinner From" tab says not.

Either way, fact is that the drop rate on this is now TOO FRICKIN LOW.

I'll have to waste another 30 Heavy Savage Leather just to get the Pristine Hide for the epic leather belt I wish to make, on top of the other mats, all in all, that's a ridiculous amount of time making an item.
This used to be fine back in the days, when everything took a lot of time and effort, now, you're just killing off what little use craftables have, when you make them so impossible hard to farm, compared to other methods of getting gear.

Quite frankly, I'll now be better off just buying an ilvl 378 belt that sometimes pops up on the AH, on my low-pop realm, ridiculous.

I got mine today From Darkwood Lurker from Tol Barad Peninsula, just doing my daily quest, and skinning on the way. After 40ish skinned spiders (my kills and the ones from other players that bothered to loot everything) it dropped. Looks droprate is same as any other blue or epic BoE, random world drop and very very low. But still possible. Happy skinning!

Got one from Cinderweb Creeper.
Clocked 1hour constant skinning, got 214 Savage Leather and 13 Lava Ruby.

Lava Ruby sells for 5g each on vendor and Savage Leather sells average of 120g/stack.
Pristine Hide sells average of 550g.

Total profit 1399g/ (about).
+ lucky Pristine Hide bonus.

Cinderweb Creeper is definetly good place to farm Savage Leather in terms of profit/time.

Spiders respawn when you kill enough spiders on small area, no downtime if average geared.

Thanks to the Bountiful Bags perk, I received two Pristine Hides from a single Cinderweb Creeper. The nice thing about the perk is that if it triggers, it is based upon whatever item you received from the node -- meaning that if you skin some Savage Leather and the perk procs, you get more Savage Leather. So if you're lucky enough to skin a Pristine Hide *and* the Bountiful Bags procs, you'll get a bonus one. I was just stunned when this happens, although now at least it makes sense.

I've just reached skinning level 525 on my pala so i went to Tol Barad Peninsula and started skinning at the spider area. I think i've skinned about 20-30 spiders and then suddenly when i skined a Darkwood Lurker there dropped 2 Pristine Hide in one mob. Its the first and only time i've seen it drop but from what i've read in the comments i guess its pretty rare. I just want to add it because Wowhead doesn't say anything about the fact that it can drop from other mobs then Terrorpene.

Today I was grinding savage leather from crocos @ Uldum (west from lost city, at river..there are small islands).
And I got 1 from this. So its possible to get it by skinning even from standard animals (beasts).
I got 140 savage leathers adn 1 pristine hide, so ration isn't bad :-D

On my server (auchindoun EU) price is around 350G so no point in turning savage leather to pristine hide.

They can be skinned from the stone drakes from Deepholm in the pale roost. I was skinning on my shaman on Illidan(with nobody else around luckily) and I was skinning some mobs someone else didn't and I got a pristine hide. Pretty sure it's just a very rare occurrence.

I was harvesting savage leather from the worgs and bucks in Twilight Highlands just north of the Obsidian Forest and had one of these drop. Since then, though, I've collected almost 300 savage leathers and haven't had any more drop. Not sure if it was a fluke or just an extremely rare drop but I'm guessing these work the same way as Arctic Fur does in Northrend; a rare drop from any creature that yields savage leather.

Skinned crocs in TB today. 200 savage leather, no pristine hides. I left TB to go to Org and killed a fox near Horde base and it dropped a pristine hide. It is a random drop.

Skinned enough savage leather to buy recipes for, and make full sets of vicious armor(one reg, one wyrmhide), and 1 blackened dragonscale armor. Have been working on another set of vicious, and got a Pristine drop today.
I had no idea it even dropped.
I'd say all told, I've skinned a minimum of 6k savage leather in the last 5 weeks, including the AH sells. Most has come form Deepholm's Pale Roost basliliks, and Fireland's lava spiders.
This should be set as a minuscule drop rate, w a huge brand across it - 'Not Worth Waiting For'

The people who got more than 1 of these from the same mob will have done so because of the guild perk bountiful bags. I imagine it's possible to actually get 4 from 1 mob.... 1 from the actual skinning and 3 additional from the guild perk proc.

I've seen this happen with things like blackened dragon scales and savage leather and savage leather scraps but never with pristine hides. This isn't suprising though because pristine hides are incredibly rare and then the x3 proc is also very rare. I'm sure it's possible though.

I notice WoWhead has removed the "skinned from" tab, but I can confirm that as of 5.4 this can still be skinned from the spiders in Tol Barad. However, I'm sure I skinned several thousand spiders before I got one.

Edit: In the last three weeks, I've gotten three more pristine hides in Tol Barad. Not sure if they've changed the drop rate, or if I've had an unprecedented run of luck.
