Applies Nightmarish Reins buff to you, and makes your mount look like a Warforged Nightmare. It does not give you the mount.
This item is obtainable from store for $30 US.
Please note that summoning this item requires you to have Warforged Nightmare, but it's not required for the person who wants to use the item to get the buff.

This will be a lovely party item in the flightless WoD.
EDIT: I don't understand all the down votes, this will be great for roaming Outland in WoD with party members while flying mounts are disabled until 6.1.

The Nightmarish Hitching Post is send to players who have purchased the Warforged Nightmare from the Blizzard Store ($30). It will allow party members to transform their mounts into a Warforged Nightmare for 20 minutes.

The mail reads:

"<name>,

There were leftover materials from your warforged nightmare. Please enjoy the hitching post crafted from the remnants.

Matching mechanical horse now for sale in-game, and this item comes with that purchase. Mount and hitching post together cost 30 USdollars.

When your group members click on the post, their mounts transform into mechanical horse.

Transformation lasts twenty minutes.

As a monk, Nightmarish Hitching Post can be used while using Zen Flight without dismounting you, as well as putting a hitching post in the sky. I'm sure this will be hotfixed real soon, but for now could be for some fun and/or confused looks. For that matter, since there is no cast time to use the hitching post, anyone can put it in the sky but it will dismount you. HOWEVER: If the post is in the sky, high enough (3 seconds worth off the ground), you can click it in the air. It will dismount you, but you will continue to cast and thus mount up, successfully.

~~The hitching post is put in front of your character so if you key bind it, and are quick enough at clicking, you can mount up in the air.~~ Nope. Says "Can't do that while moving." And if you are in Zen Flight mode, be sure to not move or you will interrupt the cast.

Can be used in Zen Flight form. (But don't move during casting)
Can be clicked on while falling if you were mounted, and will complete the 3 second cast even if you hit the ground.
Cannot use while moving. (Apparently falling is not yet considered moving.)
Cannot use when in combat.
Cannot use in shapeshift forms
Reclicking the hitching post does not refresh the time on the Nightmarish Reins buff.
Will break stealth.
Nightmarish Hitching Post will be mailed to all characters. (Including those level 1 bank alts)

So this is a weird item, especially right now. If you're mounted in some way, you can click on it, fall, but still complete the cast. But if you just fell off a cliff or out of a plane, the great hitching post in the sky won't save you.

In druid flight form, the hitching post can be cast, but flight form druids are unable to click on the hitching post with the error "You are in shapeshift form"

The post is not visible to anyone that isn't in your party. Likewise, if someone else sets down a post, you cannot see it unless you are grouped with them.

Additionally, the buff you receive (Nightmarish Reins) does not decay while offline.

Important to note that it does NOT "make your mount look like Warforged Nightmare. It makes your mount become one for the duration of the buff. Therefore, your Sandstone Drake, Azure Water Strider, etc. do not retain their passenger, water-walking, etc abilities.

It is also important to know that it only works for party members who have Apprentice Riding skill. Level 1-19 do not get to use this.

All of your low level alts do receive the Nightmarish Hitching Post in the mail, and they can place it on the ground. They can not however click on the post to mount.

Try using the Oddly-Shaped Horn while under the influence of the buff
Instant mount and it doesn't even use a charge

While you have the buff from this crossing into a different zone will cause the buff the refresh itself. I've only seen this happen in Northrend and currently have not tested it on any other continent.

If you are like me and have a character that only has cloud serpent riding and not Wisdom of the Four Winds using the pitch and transforming your mount will make any cloud serpent you are flying not function in Pandaria as they will be treated as a normal mount instead. You will need to remove the buff in order to fly in Pandaria on your cloud serpent again

So it does take up an item slot in your bag inventory then? That is my concern.

Actually you can keep that buff for days. If it runs out, stay mounted and go into a battleground. As soon as you get back to your normal server, the buff reappears completely refreshed. Can't say if it works for instances. And make sure to not log out for being afk. That definitely doesn't refresh it.

I noticed today that when I eather entered a battleground or left a finished one the buff would refresh to 20 minutes, pretty nice way to keep it for longer than 20 minutes :P
