Moshu the Arcane located at (28.8,22.6) inside of a cave gives the quest Through the Portal, which opens a portal between Shado-Pan Garrison and the island of Shan'ze Dao. This just to save some flight time, but does also offer a tiny bit of extra rep (250 before bonuses) for Shado-Pan. You must be Friendly before you can get the quest.

In regards to Bonyfoot's comment - You do NOT need to kill the pixies in order to achieve completion for this quest. The Shan'ze Serpentbinders within the area drops them as well and, consequently, drops significantly more than the pixies.

Darkwoods Charmer and Shan'ze mobs past the barricade and up the path both drop the questitems
Ancient Arcane Powder
You need to have unlocked Shadow-Pan dailys before you can pick up the quest (revered with golden lotus)
Upon completion, you get 275 Shado Pan rep and have the portal between Moshu the Arcane and Shado-pan Garrison open for use.

The dust for this quest is probably a reference to the old Arcane Dust reagent used to be needed for Arcane Brilliance and Ritual of Refreshment (the icon is even the same).

If you have this quest, don't turn in the Shado-Pan dailies, you will lose your companion and the mobs are much harder to kill.

I would like to point out that you can kill Shan'ze Illusionist. These are elites, but they drop ~60 dusts each kill. I found this to be a quick and fast way to get 1000. The area around 35,9 worked well for me.

While doing this quest, dont make the mistake i did - i thought i was smart pulling large groups of Darkwood Charmer's and Pixie's which will give you around 17-36 pr. group kill, instead go and kill the Shan'ze Serpentbinder and Onyx Stormclaw they drop from 55-100. pr kill and die even faster, this will help you finish the quest alot faster then i did..

This quest is started in a cave (28.9, 22.6) on the Shan'ze Dao island in the north-west of Townlong Steppes. Simply talk to Moshu the Arcane to start it like any other normal quest. To collect the Ancient Arcane Powder for this quest it is best to kill the Shan'ze Serpentbinders as they drop quite a lot of it, but you can also kill the Darkwoods Charmer. Note that the Darkwoods Pixies do NOT drop this item.
The Serpentbinders drop approximately 80 powder while the Chermers drop about 20, so this quest is not as daunting as it first seems :P The Serpents themselves do NOT drop powder.
Despite being elites, the Illusionists drop the same amount as the Serpentbinders.
After handing in the quest, a portal will be made that links Shan'ze Dao to the Shado-Pan Garrison. This is a two way portal.
You also get 250 (275 with Mr. Popularity guild perk Rank 2) reputation with the Shado-Pan upon completion.
Do NOT delete excess stacks of the Powder as it will delete ALL of your Powder and will abandon the quest completely.

Many people like to kill Serpentbinders for this quest, but personally I love killing the Shan'ze Illusionist mobs. They give Black Prince Rep, and are very easy kills for anyone with AoE.

They Split into 5 different mobs standing at the corners of the main Illusionist, but when you AoE they all share HP. You do an easy 110K+ DPS (I've hit up to 145K DPS on them) and slay them in seconds.

They drop 50-100 Ancient Powders to boot for this quest, usually dropping 80-ish. Fun mobs to kill and good Black Prince rep.

If you are doing this quest because you are on the island for the Shado-Pan, id reccomend picking this quest up first, as killing Shan'ze Serpentbinder gives the most dust, and are needed for the Shado-Pan daily The Mogu Menace (Mogu Menace) so you're killing 2 birds with 1 stone :)

We've finally figured out why the portal is not working. We need more arcane powder!

It would take us months to get a shipment sent out to us, but luckily, the mogu on this island carry plenty for their own spells.

They tend to use some older stuff, so we're going to need a lot of it.
