This is the correct NPC ID for the the raid boss version of Garalon which appears inside appears inside the Heart of Fear raid and drops loot.

Garalon (63667) is the version which appears in the Dread Wastes outside of the raid while players are on The Klaxxi daily quest Dark Skies. Bombing that NPC is an objective of Over Their Heads.

Boy I am glad they nerfed this in LFR. There are way too many people that don't care to pay attention to very simple mechanics that make encounters like this a headache for everyone else.

I'm just a dumb LFRaider, so let me post a tip for my kindred spirits out there.

Whatever you do, make sure you are below the stairs when the encounter starts. I was calmly eating at a nice quiet banquet at the top of the stairs when the tank ran in and started it, bringing up a wall that prevented me from participating. Worse yet, you take continual damage outside the wall, and not only can you not deal damage to the boss, but no one can heal you.

So don't make my same dumb mistake.

If your pheromone-kiter dies, somebody has to "pick up" the pheromones from the dead kiter.
Otherwise the stacks from the Peromones and Pungency will kill the raid, because they still stack up even on a dead kiter.

On LFR, it's much easier if just 1 person does the pheremones. They don't stack above 20 so if they're good it's much smoother to not worry about swapping and such.

Interesting thing happened to me today during this fight.

About halfway through, when he was at the open edge of the balcony, I used my lvl 90 talent to summon Xuen the white tiger.

Apparently he said eff that and simply flew away. never came back, never did any damage to the boss, just flew off into the distance.

It is truly staggering how many people, on LFR, run under the boss. I almost think they do it on purpose to troll, because surely people can't be THAT stupid?

See the giant purple circle? See the huge raid-wide damage you and everyone else takes because you ran into it? Don't. Do. That.

Garalon is a one phased encounter and requires 2 tanks, 2-3 healer and 5-6 DD in 10 man mode.

To understand how to approach the boss, an overview of his abilities is needed:

Furious Swipe deals damage to all targets within a large cone in front of him. It has to hit at least 2 targets to prevent him from getting Fury, which will cause him to kill your raid after a few stacks and attacks.
Pheromones is the debuff which indicates the target that is fixated by Garalon. Every 2 seconds it deals 15,000 nature damage to the raid, causes a voidzone called Pheromone Trail to spawn and stacks Pungency which increases the damage Pheromones deals by 10% per stack and expires after 2 minutes without being affected by Pheromones.
Crush causes Garalon to do 150,000 Physical damage to every player in the raid and knocking them down for 2 seconds. If someone is under him, he gets crushed with an additional 800,000 damage.
This ability is triggered by:
1. Someone standing under Garalon (within the 12 yard indicator circle)
2. Pheromones are passed to the next player.
Garalon's Leg are 4 seperate NPCs which have to be killed in order to slow Garalon. By standing close to the leg you get a debuff called Weak Points causing you to deal 100% additional damage to that leg.
With each leg you kill, Garalon is slowed by 15% and looses 3% of his maximum health due to Broken Leg. Therefore the legs are to priority and no damage to them is wasted.
Mend Leg causes one leg to respawn, which has to be killed asap.
He enrages after 7 minutes.

The raid group should be prepared to deal with a high amount of raid damage with a frequency of low-medium-high-low-... Be prepared to use healing cooldowns as Pungency stacks higher.
The damage dealer should kite Garalon to the borders of the fighting area, for minimizing the impact of Pheromone Trail for your group. Those void zones are placed in 2 second intervalls, try to place them overlapping, by just slighly moving out of the void zone every time a new one spawns.
After 40 seconds the pheromones should be given to the next player simply by standing close together and moving on asap. 3-4 damage dealer are required for this task to let the debuff expire. It is recommended to use a cooldown when you are taking the Pheromones debuff, because most likely you will stand a short time in the Pheromone Trail stunned by Crush.
If your raid needs the damage very desperately in order to beat the enrage counter, try to use tanks and healer for this task.

In order to slow down the boss asap and thus making the whole fight easier, Bloodlust should be cast very shortly after the pull, which helps to bring down the four legs and allowing your raid damage to focus on Garalon's Body. With only 1 leg active at a time the single target classes should stay on Garalon, while the classes with cleave/multidot potential continue killing the (respawning) legs.

Pungency tracking with Weak Auras:

This string can be imported with Weak Auras causing the number of stacks be shown left in the icon and the number of remaining seconds in the right side of the icon.

Changes in heroic:

Pungency lasts 4 minutes. More kiter are required.
At 33% Garalon has to be tanked and will not follow the person who carries Pheromones
Crush is casted periodically.

It should be self explaining how you can adapt the normal mode tactic, that it fits the heroic mode.

"Yes the first person to attack him gets the debuff." This is actually not true. I know, because I am the first kiter for our raid and there have been several times when our over-zealous warrior has charged in and gotten the debuff. Here is how it actually works: after the boss is engaged, it takes him about 2 seconds to cast Pheromones, and it is cast on the player closest to him at that time. Thus, whoever has been designated to be the first kiter, that person should stand very close to Garalon during the pull and everyone else should keep their distance for at least a couple of seconds until the first kiter gets the debuff.

You can trivialize this encounter if you have a resto druid and warlock, have your resto druid cast symbiosis on the warlock so he gains the teleport ability and have your warlock place the teleport just outside of the "wall". This way you won't have the pheromone debuff to manage, making this boss ntohing more than an 'armless Patchwerk (pun intended)

Facing the boss as you get ready to pull, you'll notice some Sha-shadow crap in the back left corner.

Kiters may want to avoid that patch. It doesnt do damage, but seems to confuse pathing on Garalon. Multiple pulls we've seen a kiter hit that back corner, only to watch in horror as Garalon does a 180 and tries to find them on the opposite side of the room. If that happens mid-cleave, bye bye clothies and healers.

Stay slightly inside as you pass that area and it's avoided. You dont really give up much floor space either, not enough to notice anyway.

Cliff notes for LFR

Everyone, including tanks, keep away from 'beneath' boss (center area) because he will do a cray cray AOE damage to the raid. If you do run under and cause the AoE then there will be bad name calling and dummy spats so please just don't run to the center.
2 tanks always in front of boss at all times. There needs to be two to soak his Furious Swipe attack otherwise he gets a stacking speed/damage buff which is nasty. So please 2 tanks in front of boss at all times.
DPS focus on legs the whole time. They do regenerate so if one does regen don't freak thinking you're losing the fight, they just do that, keep DPSing them.
The goop on the floor is pheromone pools, tanks use them, DPS don't. Tanks use them to maintain agro. DPS just avoid them and don't give them another thought.

There are more detailed posts on here that go into detail so please read those if you want to read more on a mechanic. This is just the basics but if everyone follows the basics you'll win the fight tears free!

From the research I have done it seems that the 100% damage buff (weak point) is on specific to that leg and the circle for that leg pertaining to range attackers. You don't get the 100% buff from standing in one legs circle while shooting a different leg is what I've gathered. We were trying to shoot the legs while standing in one zone and noticed damage was low, we were trying to move from leg to leg less but that is the only way to get the damage buff, many guides leave this point out.

Furious Swipe – Garalon performs a Furious Swipe to targets in a large cone in front of him, inflicting 800000 Physical damage. If Garalon fails to hit at least 2 targets with his Furious Swipe, he gains Fury.
- Fury – Fury increases Garalon's damage dealt by 10% and movement speed by 10% for 15 sec. This effect stacks.

- Pheromone Trail – The Pheromone Trail on the ground inflicts 100000 Nature damage to players within 4 yards.

Garalon's Legs

Players attack Garalon's legs separately from his body.

Weak Point – Close proximity to Garalon's leg allows attackers to see weak points, increasing their damage dealt to the leg by 100%.
Broken Leg – Breaking one of Garalon's legs damages Garalon for 3% of his maximum health and reduces Garalon's movement speed by 15%. This effect stacks up to 4 times.
Mend Leg – Garalon periodically mends one of his broken legs, restoring it to full health.

Damaged – In Heroic difficulty, Garalon gains the Damaged effect upon reaching 33% remaining health.
- Pheromones – While Garalon has the Damaged effect, Garalon ignores the fixate effects of Pheromones.
- Melee Attack – While Garalon has the Damaged effect, Garalon uses his normal melee attack and gains a dramatic speed increase.
