~~I have looked on the Wowhead guides and to get this item ( Crashin' Thrashin' Flyer Controller ) which is contained in Winter Veil Gift!~~

i believe you can loot it from the gifts on 25th december, just like Crashin' Thrashin' controllers from previous years report

You get Crashin' Thrashin' Flyer Controller by opening the presents under the Ironforge(Aliiance) Orgrimmar(Horde) Christmas tree!

To get the achievement all I did is spam 1 and I randomly got the achievement!
You could always ask friends to help you get it! - Just fly behind them and press 1 which will shoot!
Reasons for losing control and coming out of the flight are:

Another player has shot down your flyer.
Your flyer goes too far away from your character.

There are 2 action buttons that go with the flyer.

By pressing 1 which will fire rockets (Is the way to get the achievement)
By pressing 2 which will use the afterburner which will increase the speed of the flyer.

To control the flyer, you can go up and down by holding and releasing the space bar or by using your mouse.

When you stop controlling the flyer, you are stunned. There are three reasons for that:

Another player has shot down your flyer.
Your flyer goes too far away from your character.
The timer expires or you stop using it on your own accord.

Please keep the second thing in mind since it can confuse you. Otherwise you might think you're constantly getting shot down. It does take a few shots before a flyer is shot down.

Annoyingly, if you hit Esc to close your bags as I always do after activating a temporary just-received item, it will also cancel the plane and make you wait another 30s.

/mountspecial will destroy your Flyer early, though the cool down will not be reset. /dismount and /script VehicleExit(); do not work.

The flyers move forward automatically (and you can't stop the forward movement) so it might be a little annoying getting another player's flyer in front of you.

If you have another player cooperating with you and you are Horde, I found a spot you can fly the flyer which stops the forward flight and makes this achievement trivially easy. The spot is right next to the present where you get the flyer, to the right of the entrance to Garrosh's room (aka the entrance to the room where the dark shaman bosses spawn in the SoO). You can get stuck where the flyer is in the red circle and just sit there. You can have a friend do the same and it should be able to fire on your flyer to get the achievement. It should take a few hits but this method should allow 2 people to complete the achievement in minimal time.

keep in mind this thing fires backwards. took me a few minutes before i realized i had to be in front of the enemy before firing

To clear up some misconceptions being posted here:

1. The flyer is a reward found in one of the presents under the Christmas tree in Orgrimmar for Horde and Ironforge for Alliance.

2. There are 2 action buttons that go with the flyer. One is to fire rockets and the other is to use the afterburner to increase speed. You can also make the flyer go up and down by holding and releasing the space bar or using your mouse.

3. The flyer normally flies forward, but you can fly it into a solid object to stop it's forward motion until you move off that object.

4. The flyer fires rockets both forward and backwards. When on the ground or flying upwards, it fires forward, when in the air or flying downwards, it fires rearward. This can be handy when you have someone on your tail.

5. You have to stay within a certain range of your character while flying or you will disengage. If that happens, simply click on the button again. Every time you disengage it adds 2 seconds to the timer before you are allowed to activate the button again.

6. It is pretty easy to get The Danger Zone achievement by just flying around, staying in range of your character, and spamming the rocket fire button.

The Danger Zone (this achievement).
