Its kinda of a touchy subject for me, its very offensive. I respect my class and im proud of beeing a hunter. The people outside cant understand that, because they think that a player who plays hunter class is "Bad", and, certainly, they are waaaay too wrong. There is some people that is really bad playing it, but lets face it, that doesnt happen with every hunter in WoW.

Me myself having a hunter as there main Character. For questing beast Mastery is easy to do and exotic pets taming is a big plus.If you dual spec i find survival and Marksmanship both good. Though the damage Marks does is better but Survival makes you a harder to kill target. Hunter is a good class for PvP at higher levels also.

Ive actually found a bug that requires relogging. Lets say you are on your mount doing a quest or you portal into a battleground, next thing you know "Hey, my pet is summoned but there is no pet command bar!" this a easy to fix bug, simply logout or use the command "/console reloadui". This should resolve the problem. Happy Hunting!

Hunters: the best class to play if you're ever in the mood for the most disgustingly unbalanced and unfair pvp at low levels. Seriously. Make a hunter, give him boas, get him to level 10 and get your pet. Start to queue for WSG. At the lowest possible level for the 10-19 bracket (10) you can be top damage in the BG. My records were usually about 25 kills and 2 deaths at level 10 also. By level 12 ish you can be the undisputed best player in the bg usually (except if there's another similar, higher level hunter). By level 15 you are a god. 16-19...... LOL......... you get the picture. I literally level a hunter to 10 and do pure BGs in 10-19 and 20-29, then delete him , and do it again. Blizzard has no intentions of balancing low level pvp and never will. (post on the forums and many people will laugh at you and reinforce this). So if you're ever in the mood......... my god.........

Unless they change the ability to tame
The Beast
come cata live, this is not true. He can still be tamed currently in 4.0.1, and is a Level ? (Boss). He's the _only_ boss that can be tamed in the game, but he's still a boss and can be tamed, so this comment is not true.
His tooltip even retains the "Level ? (Boss)" and skull on his portrait after he's tamed.
Don't downrate something 100% factual posted to clarify misinformation from somebody else.
His tooltip no longer retains the boss tag as of 4.0.3

In Cataclysm, throw weapon is not available for hunters any more. Any one notice that?
I have to commit that throw weapon is not useful for hunters. However it's a pity for RP hunter players, especially Troll. Troll hunter using a javelin is so cool just like a headhunter. Now I need to reroll a troll warrior (or rogue) to cosplay headhunter.
I really wish Blizzard can give throw weapon to hunter back.

Ok, I've been reading the recent PTR notes and found this:
Pets now have 70% of the master's armor, rather than a different value based on which type of pet they are.
Are they trying to nerf BM hunters or why do Tenacity pets need to have lower armor than the Hunter? Pets are already fragile enough when soloing dungeons, why make them even worse?

Hunters... in the world of PvE, they are by far one of the best classes, since they have pets tanking for them and doing damage, which is how they can easily top the Recount chart in instances and raids as long as the other members of their group aren't like 4 or 5 levels above them.
PvP is a completely different story. Pets aren't nearly as helpful because most players know and exploit the hunter's one weakness, they can do almost literally nothing if there target is within 5 yards of them. I guess they were so OP in PvE that Blizzard decided it would only be fair to other players if they were extremely UP in PvP. :(
Still Hunter is a fun class to play, not to mention that they are one of the easier classes to level. Plus, you can make a Hunter of any race you want as long as you don't want to be a Gnome.

In this post, I will be giving a brief overview of each spec that a hunter can choose. I will also be including a basic look at the type of rotation you will encounter using each tree. The rotations come mainly from
Warcraft Hunter's Union
,
ElitistJerks
, the
Hunter forums
, or from personal knowledge.
Class-wide abbreviations are as follows:
사냥꾼의 징표
– HM
– SrS
– AS
고정 사격
– SS
– CoS
마무리 사격
– KS
Marksmanship:
Besides a few exceptions, such as
, all of the Marksmanship talents go towards increasing your ranged damage even further. They focus mostly on using powerful, instant cast shots that do all their damage at once, such as
(AiS). Although their focus isn't on DoTs, they do use two:
as all hunters do, plus
신중한 조준
which procs off of their array of already powerful shots. With their tree specific
, they can either get out of a sticky jam, or dish out a second
to down that boss that much quicker. At higher levels, they will get a proc off of
which will basically make a free explosion of damage. Most of their total damage however comes from
고정 사격
and their final talent ability,
키메라 사격
.
Rotation:
The rotation for marksmanship is a semi-priority based system, where you do have a sort of ‘rotation’, however, it will change from time to time and you will need to be able to adapt your play style. The main factors in the rotation are
키메라 사격
(CS) and
(ISS). ISS is a must-have buff (15% haste) that will reapply itself when you consecutively fire off two SS in a row. So, during your rotation, you will need to keep in mind to always fire them off in 2s. CS is on a 10 second CD (9 glyphed), and it refreshes SrS. It is in your best interest to shoot this immediately once off cooldown. AS is only used for when you would cap out on focus with your two mandatory steadies while waiting for CS to finish cooling down. At introductory levels of haste, your rotation should be something like this: HM>SrS>CS>SSx2>ArS>SSx2>ArS>CS>SSx2… Whenever you receive an
proc or KS becomes available, just replace an AS with it so long as doing so won’t make you cap out on focus.
Beast Mastery:
Basically what it sounds like. Instead of boosting their own damage to high levels, they choose to increase their pet’s damage and survivability so that together they do an acceptable amount. If you are this talent tree, expect for around 45% of your total damage to come from your pet. This tree is usually preferred to use while leveling because with the right type of pet (typically a turtle or beetle), you have your own mini tank that does whatever you tell it to. It is also almost always required for extreme soloing (when you try to down raid or heroic bosses alone). Their main damage dealer is
살상 명령
(KC) coupled with their tree specific
야수의 격노
. Their adequately named final talent,
특이한 야수
, lets them tame exotic pets and their pets get more talent points.
Rotation:
It follows a more erratic rotation/priority system (in my opinion), and as such I have not played this spec as extensively as the other two. If my words aren’t enough to explain it well, I feel no offense to you looking elsewhere. The most basic priority for this spec is HM>SrS>KC>KS>AS>CoS. Only use AS if you would have enough focus for KC when it comes off CD. Since KC is on a 6 second CD, your rotation really goes in 6 second increments. During these 6 seconds, you should be able to pull off a 1 KC, 1 AS and 2 CoS. There are 3 longer Cooldowns that this tree has to offer:
열정
,
and
야수의 격노
. Fervor is pretty simple; it instantly gives 50 focus to you and your pet. The way Focus Fire behaves is that every time your pet does a basic attack (every 3 seconds) your pet gains a stack of
광기
, which stacks to 5. When you cast Focus Fire, you consume all the Frenzy stacks your pet has, and gives us 3% haste bonus for each stack consumed (max of 15% haste boost). It lasts 20 seconds, has a 15 second CD, and it takes 15 seconds for Frenzy to stack to full. So ideally, you have a constant 15% haste boost. Bestial Wrath is your hard hitting CD. It increases the damage your pet does by 20%, your damage by 10% and reduces the focus cost of all abilities by 50%. So during it, never use CoS because you won’t need the focus. You should be able to do 2 KC and 6-7 AS by the end of the duration.
Survival:
Survival hunters can be summed up with two words: DoTs and traps. That is how they function. They get talents to increase the effectiveness of their traps, namely
, and most of their main shots are in fact DoTs. These guys are very useful in raids and high level dungeons because on top of an improved
, they also get
비룡 쐐기
as a backup or secondary crowd control method. Like I said, these guys are about DoTs. Their two main abilities,
(ES) and their final talent,
(BA), are in fact both DoTs, and work together in unison thanks to
and
. Also, the class universal
gets even stronger thanks to
맹독 쐐기
,
독물학
, and their mastery ability,
. Plus, thanks to
독사 쐐기
, they also have the highest AoE damage of all the trees.
Rotation:
The survival rotation is a pure priority system that you will need to constantly make judgement calls on what to do next. It’s kinda hard to explain clearly, and really just needs practice to really comprehend and to make these judgement calls. The priority for this spec is as follows: HM>SrS>ES>KS>BA>AS>CoS. However, it’s slightly more complicated than it sounds, but not much. If you don’t have enough focus for ES right once it comes off CD, that’s bad, very bad. So every 6 seconds, you will need to have enough focus for ES, which is a fair amount. BA isn’t essential to shoot right once it’s available, but do it asap (while not losing any ES of course). This is all much easier now that we have more focus thanks to the t13 2-piece bonus. AS will only ever be used if you will have enough focus for ES right when it comes off CD, such as when you are about to focus cap. CoS is your filler for when ES and BA are on CD and you don’t have enough focus for a justified AS. When
procs off of your BA (or traps), things change dramatically. What the proc does is that it resets the CD on ES instantly, and makes your next two ES’s to be free and cause no CD. So basically, if ES is on CD and it procs, you can instantly fire off two free ES with no CD and then a third right after which behaves normally. The main problem here is that under most conditions, the DoTs that ES actually applies will not have enough time and they will be clipped short. As an example, let’s say that each tic does 5k damage. If you let each DoT do its full duration, you’ll get 45k damage off of the three shots (3x3x5k). But if you fire all three off in quick succession, the DoTs will overlap and you’ll wind up with I think 40k damage (one tic was lost). So what I do, is ES>ES>AS/CoS>ES. I put the AS in between the first two ES if I am about to cap on focus.

This is just for the Hunters out there doing Rated BGs:
If you end up in EoTS, and your team doesn't require your aid (Yet).
You'd like to stay up the rock and use Eagle Eye to report how the bases are going.
This way I managed to actually win an EoTS with a newbie group in EoTS.
It's just a simple trick which ALOT of hunters do not know of. (Atleast, I think so ;) )
BTW, I just <3 hunters and all the tools we have. Alot of people are crying about the 5 yd deadzone, but we have ALOT of tools to negate that. Scatter Shot, Ice/Freezing Trap, (If survival) Snake Trap + Root, Spider's Web, Rhino's knockback (Not sure if thats for BM only or not.) Bird of Preys disarm (when a rogue stunlocks you, or a warrior charges + pops CDs on you)
Alot of people just forget that we have all these tools. :)

I'm 85 with a resilience of friggin' 1225? wtf is THAT gonna' do against ANYone. idk i give up 3 + yrs on here and i am still a pathetic noob. i use all my traps constantly yet any melee can just jold me there and burn me down before i can even use disengage. meh, i'll never get it lol

Heres what to do in various situations...
NOTE: when you pop deterrence/disengage combo pop your rapid fire AND MAKE SURE TO READINESS RIGHT AFTER. giving you 2 defensive cooldowns instead of 1.
Ganked by a rogue: Trinket right away and deterrence the moment after, disengage scatter shot and begin kiting, if you're good at this its an easy victory unless the rogue is in 2200 gear and you aren't...
Ganked by other Melee Class: Don't trinket, spam deterrence until useable and do same as above, if its a warrior if you strafe and jump while shooting you can most of the time dodge their charges (get far enough away that they aren't in your hitbox when they reach you)
DKs: DO NOT LET THEM TOUCH YOU, their death strike heals em a ton, if they are smart they'll heal by hitting your pet, if they're doing this put your pet on passive, kite as above and when they death grip deterrence and disengage. keep widow venom on him.
Ranged Dps: Gotta out dps them, when they pop their CDs, pop your deterrence, if its on CD I suggest disengaging out of their range and running a bit or LoSing until their CDs run out, pop your CDs AFTER they pop theirs.
Other Hunters: Use a bird or scorpid to disarm, they are SO vulnarable vs. Disarms its not even funny
1 vs 2 (heal/dps): Silence/Ice Trap/Scatter shot healer do above to the dps widow venom on Dps
1 Healer: Silence Casts Scatter on Casts widow venom kept on him tranq hots and throw dps whenever you get freetimez from CCs =)
Suggested PvP Enchants:
220 SP pen (70 Cloak 3 50 gems)
Rest Fit in Socket:
Yellow Sockets: Orange +20 agility +20 Haste/Crit
Red: +40 Agility
Blue: Green +20 Agility +20 Resilience (if under 3200 or so resil total, otherwise do w/e +20 agility/+20 w/e you needz)
Weapon, if you are hardcore PvP, I suggest a Weapon Chain making disarms 4 seconds down from 10, this is a HUGE game changer in many situations.
I DO NOT recommend gemming resil because it just isn't needed.. with full vicious/even bloodthirsty you have more then enough and as a ranged dps your goal is not to let them touch you..
also, make sure that you are targetting the peeps with lower health first, they can still deal decent amounts of damage and mayaswell be dead then doing #$%^ to you...
Pets:
Scorpid/Bird 10 second Disarm Use vs. MDps and Hunters (quick pet changes are always good if useable)
Spider 4 second immobility
Cat +549 agility (at 85) ONLY USE RIGHT BEFORE ARENAS, USE HIS ROAR AT 5 SECONDS AND QUICKLY CHANGE TO BIRD/SCORPID OR SPIDER, I SUGGEST CHANGING PETS MID GAME IF YOU SEE FITTING.
Gear: Full bloodthirsty first, with buying vicious start with bow, then polearm, then move to the 5 pieces (unless you have engi helm, then 4) then move to trinkets and then last fill in non set items..
if you have any more questions feel free to respond to this, Hope this helped =).

One thing i hate about being a hunter is the boring time you get after hitting level 48. From there you have as a hunter all the nice spells and there is no changing at all. the mm is full with 2 spells leftover like Distracting Shot and Rapid Fire.
Not the most favorite spells i have on my inventory. and the most of the rest it's hunter spells are kinda bored too (with a few acceptions like Snake trap, Mastery, Cobrashot,Aspect of the fox, camouflage and offcourse trying to find and tame a spirit beast.) i had have a really hard time leveling from 48 too 80 where amost nothing drastic happens on my spellbook and on my hunter.

Eyes of the Beast was one of the few reasons for me to play a hunter. That and the fact that you could blow people out of existence with a gun. I had much fun using Eyes of the Beast on my Snow leopard, named Snowy, and sneeking up on people in BG's and attacking them. Snowy, of course, would amost always die (Unluss it was a noob wearing terible armor) But i would just rez him and try again! And near the end of the BG, Snowy would be very unhappy, so id commit suicide and he would be back to average happyness. But too bad those days are gone. :(

Pro tips for huntards (made by hunters, for hunters):
-You have a TON of interrupts. Use every one of them.
-Silencing Shot (MM)
-Scatter Shot (maybe use a stopattack macro)
-Trap Launcher + Freezing Trap
-Feign Death (if they're targeting you)
-Deterrence (Surv makes this a spell reflect)
-Scare Beast (Against druids or pets)
-Stand near a corner or rock that you can quickly duck behind for LoS purposes.
-You CAN still cast things while using Deterrence. Use Kill Command for DPS or traps to save yourself.
-Any speed boost is a massive advantage for any hunter. It can increase your DPS (because your at range more) and it increases your survival (because your not getting hit).
-Use slows. Concussive Shot and Wing Clip do NOT share cooldowns. Use Concussive Shot on one person at a range and Wing Clip on a person up close.
-If you ever see a bubble pop (assuming it's not 100% immunity) use Tranquilizing Shot.
-Your Aspects share a short GCD with each other, but not with the rest of your abilities. Cast Aspect of the Wild if you see an Entangling Roots coming or Fox when you need to start moving.
-Don't give people the chance to hit you. I said it before, but I'll say it again. Speed is your friend and slows are the enemy of your enemy.
-Naming your PVP pet the same as your character can help you a lot if the person you are fighting doesn't catch the mix up. You FD and your pet grabs target. If they don't pay attention to who they're targetting, they won't hurt you at all. By the time they figure it out, it could be the end of them.
-Chimera Shot heals you. If you're a MM, this is probably the most important ability on your bar.
-Widow Venom decreases healing that the target receives. Almost every class has at least a little bit of healing now and even if they don't, they might have bandages. Keep this up at all times.
-Wing Clip does not share a GCD with Deterrence or Disengage. Use them together if possible (perhaps a macro?).

Here are a few things about Hunter that you need to know:
A Fairly large wall of text incoming:
1) There is no right or wrong spec to play, it's whatever you feel most comfortable with and doing.
2) There is no right or wrong pet to have, what makes the difference is their Pet-Special Ability
3) Hunter is not easy to play, especially as Marksman because you have to manage your "Aimed Shot Proc Stacks" to keep the Steady Shot Haste Proc up.
4) Hunters NEED agility, haste, and crit as their main abilities, similar to a rogues stat build.
5) Agility provides increased crit damage, haste increases focus regen (and casting speed), crit increases the chance of a crit strike and it's damage.
6) Your pet WILL share your base attributes/stats so if you are soloing with a tank pet, have a stam stack with a lot of armor,
7) Pets tend to have more HP than you at lower levels if you spec into Greater Stamina ect. This will change at approx level 40-60.
8) Bear in mind that pets again share your base attributes but to a reduced level, so do not stack a bunch of stamina to expect your pet to have more HP than you or a tank, the odds are -- it wont happen.
9) As of Cata, Pet's cannot gain player controlled buffs (Kings, Might, Scrolls, ect)
10) You cannot change a pets spec, or give them a "Hybrid Spec", they have only one tree which is what they were tamed as,
11) A Pet is a Hunters Friend, however -- a Beast Mastery hunter (as stated above) relies mostly on their pet, but a Beast Mastery hunter can get away with some great PVP because of Silithids being an improved Spider for BM Hunters.
12) As of Cata, Pets who were tamed as "Elites" no longer gain an advantage over normal pets. Rumors are around that boss pets get a slight advantage though, (Do not hold this against me as I am NOT sure of this.)
Good luck and happy hunting! :)
EDIT: As the announcement of the new X-Pac: Mists of Pandaria, (10) is no longer true, you can change your pet's spec, however: They cannot be a Hybrid unfortunately. So Turtles can be Ferocity etc.

4) Hunters NEED agility, haste, and crit as their main abilities, similar to a rogues stat build.
The "need" for Haste varies wildly, depends on if you're close to the next "haste plateau" or not. (Each plateau will allow you to include another shot in your rotation between your signature shots, depending on your spec.) So stacking Haste may not be a DPS gain for you, unless you're trying to get over that next plateau. Of course, it will still increase your Focus regeneration, but again, that may not be the most meaningful gain for you.
It's generally agreed that you shouldn't stack haste unless you're close to getting over that next plateau.
And of course you should be hit-capped before worrying about haste. And Crit will also be a priority over haste.

I have several Hunters. Different races and different specializations and different pets. I am still learning and adjusting my action bars for more effective battle. So far No pet has left me but have had one refuse to attack right away. I then learned that you MUST maintain your pet. I click on "mend pet" nearly every time just after I tell it to attack, and just before "I" attack, and nearly every time it has kept its full health when the monster is defeated unless it is an elite or several levels higher than us. In those cases I try to keep an eye on its health and "mend pet" regularly. When the pet (ex. Turtle) growls at me when returning to my side I like to "feed pet". Hard to tell with bears as they do that anyway. That seems to satisfy them for a while.
It took me a while to realise the full potential of my pet and have learned that if done right it is a far superior weapon to anything else you equip. Maybey even the equvilent of two players of that level.
I have completed "deadmines" solo with a lvl 32 BM hunter with no deaths on my part if that means anything. At times battling 4 opponents at once of equal or greater health than me. I even made a few potentially fatal mistakes. It was my second Dungeon ever.
I have recently decided to have at least 1 pet of each class (ferocity, cunning, tank) to use in specific situations.

I am wondering after reading many of the posts,... do I want to beat my foe to death or blow their heads off while
my pet eats the guts and livers? I am level 85 and just now starting to do PVP because the guild I am in never did
anything else. I have a Hole Puncher Gun and Jade Fang Spider that does good damage but in reading all this
I went and got some good one handed blades and upgraded them and then I read I need a 2 handed weapon
and beat the life out of them.
I have started shooting them and running in and beating them and then back to shooting.

I've only levelled one, but keeping in mind they can farm higher level mobs (even before some quests become available): Ashenvale, Stonetalon Mountains, Desolace (oasis as hub, not so much the port), Southern Barrens, Feralas, skip to Felwood (great for herbalism), Winterspring, an optional hike to Un'Goro Crater, Blasted Lands, Hellfire, Nagrand (scenic), etc.
Badlands is fun the first time, it has a humorous quest chain. I've actually gone through Silithus and the Burning Steppes in 2011, pretty retro. STV, plaguelands, Hinterlands, Wetlands... most ____lands are a bit tedious.
Besides BG's and dungeons, of course.

Would be cool if they introduced the concept of 1h DW and 2h range weapons to spice things up.
Guns = Both 1h and 2h
Xbows = Both 1h and 2h
Bows = Just 2h
DWing 1h range weapons has the benefit of faster SS/CS, twice as many shots and firing two ability shots eg. Arcane Shot (similiar to Threat of Thassarian for DKs except for all hunter specs) at the cost of one, but overall pure damage (not damage output, which is on par with 2h) being lower.
2h range weapons has higher, spikier damage and higher natural Focus regen at the cost of slower SS/CS.
Could help diversify the specs without changing the specs themselves.

I have so many mixed feelings towards 5.0 coming. There are a lot of long awaited changes, such as the minimum range but downsides towards Hunters that are collectors, who will loose (like many other classes) their stat buff weapon slot.
Speaking play-style wise. It is a little hard to imagine how exactly the new 'talent tree' will affect what spec's you choose to specialize in. Which, that is the exact point of it. It is a given flexibility and uniqueness that has been asked for some time. Still, it will all depend on the player. As far as I see, the skills and talents that are currently in each specialization will stay the same within your spellbook, but the talent tree no longer boost or adds buffs to those tree specific skills. Instead its been replaced with...bonus skills collected from each old tree. All of which just helps to 'customize' your characters needs depending if your pvp'ing or raiding. Now, a majority of these bonus talents seem to help bolster pvp situations, self survival or a type of crowd control. Very few tier skills seem to really move towards helping output any type of dps, and those that do, cost of a hefty amount of focus. How this will mix in with the type of rotation developed it could cause some issues but it seems that we'll be relying mostly on the skills already designated from our spellbooks. Though, from what I've seen and read they intend to make it so that every class is within the same damage range and output, supposedly. So, why remove the stat stick? As of right now, I don't know how that will exactly balance out.
Now, I've heard that hunter pets are going to allow us to customize their own usefulness. While most pets that have the updated buffs will keep them, a cat, wolf or even bird can be trained with skills to tank efficiently. There will no longer be tenacity, ferocity or cunning specific pets, but talents trained instead to grant those positions.
Now, a heated debate, Hunters losing Melee weapons. From a stat buff point of view, Blizz has said that it will make a minimal change to the stat outcome gained by Hunters from the loss of this slot. Other classes as well, will be loosing their relics and ranged slots. Now, they say this is a fair trade but its hard to agree entirely when most other classes ranged or relic slots are minimal stat boots that do not get the advantage of enchantments, while a melee weapon for hunters does. Pole-arms and Staffs are a good source of at least 400+ agil and 600+ stam along with a favored enchantment of 130+ agil. That's a significant amount of loss. While they argue that other classes will be loosing their ranged slots, losing wands or relics isn't a big a bite as much for rouges, warriors and hunters losing that slot. I can only assume that bows and guns would be buffed to compensate and balance these changes. Though, as far as this change actually goes, it barely seems necessary in the long run. It is understandable that over the years it's been the running joke of 'what weapons can hunters NOT use.' From the masses of people complaining that hunters taking 1H axes, fists and daggers from shamans and rogues to pole-arms and staffs from druids, to Warriors and Rogues taking Bows from Hunters. Now over time, a lot of these issues have been fixed. Rogues are now reliant on thrown weapons for their aoe to work and warriors have since from BC no longer need agil and strength guns and bows have been created to fill those slots. Its a change that has been a long time coming to hunters and finally arrived. It has been said that we'll regain the old quiver graphic that will sit on our backs. Questions asked if we could at least still transmog such melee items for vanity sake, was a flat out NO.
It is nothing that people can't get used too but sorely looked down upon those that are collectors. Myself included, being able to use so many weapons why not collect the fascinating ones? RP'ers are not a LARGE community on WoW anymore but they are going to feel this hurt more than anyone. Ever since the recent change of transmog, most people have been scattering to re-collect old sets or weapons they used to favor for their look. Pole-arms and Staffs being the current BiS for hunters, makes it not entirely capable to transmog into all those daggers, fists and axes but it has not stopped Hunters from collecting now and in the past. But the fact remains that they HAVE spent months and even years collecting these items, just to show them off and now to vendor away all their hard work and memories. No longer being able to wield my legendary, Thunderfury, that has taken years to finally acquire, I'm sure Rogues or Warriors are going to sorely miss their bow from Sunwell just as much. Legendarys aside, dungeon and quest weapons are just as valuable. From my Quel'Dalar, Argent Avenger, Zulian Slicer for that added skinning bonus, Greed and Pride, to Fits of the Deity the only in-game version that Zul'jin wielded. It will be hard to let any of them go, only to let them rot in my bank for collection sake.
There is plenty being changed in the coming Expansion. I guess, this is just my point of view and I've plenty to still read up on. I've tried to look at the actual reality of the changes when it comes to raids and pvp to the vanity aspect for collectors. This just sums up all the information I've come across and my voice in the matter. If this is true, the hunter class as we know it is gone. Now, this sounds dramatic, but I dont’ mean it like that. It just means the gameplay will be fundamentally different. Especially in PvP, the class will be radically different. With the loss of minimum range it can be similar to mages wearing plate and a lot of mechanics of old and possibly new will be simplified if "stacking" needs to be done.

Quick overview on some useful pets for various common situations--
For leveling, a tenacity pet is typically preferred because of its survivability and AoE ability in the tenacity talent tree (thunderstomp). Bears are easily accessible and have an AoE debuff that makes soloing groups of mobs much easier pre-thunderstomp, as long as you single target what your pet is hitting. Turtles and beetles are also good picks for tenacity questing pets.
That said, a hunter in heirlooms doesn't really need the survivability, as they typically destroy mobs at level within seconds. For them, a cunning pet might be best if only for the mobility pet talent, which ensures that the pet is always immediately on the mob you send it after. Spiders are a great pick as they can also web mobs, giving you plenty of time to pew pew it into the ground. Birds can disarm, which has more value in PvP than PvE but can still come in handy.
For instances, ferocity pets are almost always preferred, the cat and wolf ones gives excellent buffs to your whole group. The cat buff does not stack with strength of earth totem or horn of winter or battle cry, if you have one of these in the party use wolf instead. The wolf buff does not stack with other similar effects like honor among thieves, so use cat if you have one of those already. In the case you have both of these buffs in your group, you might do better with a serpent or ravager pet to give the debuff to your target instead.
For PvP, cunning pets are typically considered ideal. The spider's web ability and the bird's disarm are both excellent picks. An exception to this is the cat or spirit beast, whose ability to stealth can be situationally superior. Spirit beast is an exotic pet only usable by BM hunters, but also comes with a healing skill that can absolutely save your butt in PvP.
Keep in mind, these are just suggestions, you ought to pick the pet you like best. If, for example, you can't stand that ambient stretch and growling noise a cat makes, don't go with a cat, even if it's mechanically ideal in your situation.
edit: PS, the race:pet table currently links Worgens to wolves. Worgens in fact get dogs, which are not the same as wolves.

If you start a panda hunter and want to snag a tiger or crane and not lose your turtle. There is a Stable Master, Li the Tamer, outside the eastern door of the Temple of Five Dawns, which will let you stable your turtle. She is not listed under Stable Master's page for some reason. I sent a feedback to Wowhead requesting she be added.
Cheers!
Update: I was also able to tame the light blue Corsac Fox near the training ground and the Guardian just before the Wood of Staves with Level 10 getting Beast Mastery. Exotics are now tameable with only the specialization. I had already completed all but the final decision quest. I stabled to get a slot for the Guardian and followed the most dominant ridge of the turtle shell all the way around from the newly healed wound area to just below the balloon launch. Walked away toward Shin Tzu's head until I got fatigue and died. I rezzed at the Spirit Healer in the Wood right above the Guardian. If you would like to not do it this way, gain level 10 and Beast Mastery prior to the fight with the Guardian.

Hunters may be easy to use, but they're pretty tough to fully master. Without your pet, you become a glorified mage (Range attacks), or you just look like a Noob who wants it easy.

At the moment hunters are - by FAR - the strongest PvP class for anything below level 80.
They can kill any caster before their Intimidation+PetCC+CounterShot combo ends - even BoA geared casters stand absolutely no chance, even with a PvP trinket.
Any melee class, aside from perhaps Rogue, has ZERO chance of out-maneuvering a hunter at below lvl 90.
The amount of both CC, mobility and self defense Hunters gain earlier than any other class on low level is just insane.

My Thoughts on Hunters:
I love the way Hunters play and I highly recommend playing a Hunter. They can be easy to learn, but it takes talent to master a hunter. While Hunters have received much criticism throughout the existance of WoW they are not all bad.
The ability to name and choose what your pet looks like is a very useful advantage for the customization of Hunters and if all goes right WoD will include the passive ability "Lone Wolf" which will allow for Hunters to be running around without their pets. Giving all of us that have asked for a "Ranger" exactly that. This will come with advantages and disadvantages, but I foresee a new era for Hunters; one with even more customization.
My very first toon was a Marksman Hunter during the WotLK days. That toons has since been deleted unfortunately, but I now have two Hunters and it is the only class I have two. I really dislike Shamans to the point that I play two Hunters over having one of each class. I have a Marksman Hunter and a Beast Mastery Hunter.

I would like to share an amazing farming method with my dear hunters...
I found all of this out when farming for Alani's Sky shards, some may already know this as it would come to mind pretty easily when you're busting your butt trying to maximize gathering mobs! So forgive me if someone has already posted about it :)
First you will need to choose a pet
depending upon your situation and specialization
. I'll name a few good types, spirit beasts (require Beast Mastery) for an extra heal, Chimeras and the Jormungar are both unique for their AOE's, they need Beast Mastery as well. Turtles are outstanding tanks for their ability to shield a tremendous amount of damage, I used one because it was hard for me to multitask, so I had a spare shield to pop on my command in case something bad happened, which it did, a lot. If the amount you are mobbing isn't so bad, then it's your choice from that point, last suggestion would be fox as it reduces damage done to it by 10% if I'm not mistaken, and those two don't require being a Beast Master either.
Next you will need to set up a macro, here's how it goes...
/target (pet name here!)
/cast Misdirection
/targetenemy
-the targetenemy thing just kinda helps when you're doing it, it's not recommended.
*You will NEED the
glyph of Misdirection
*You will NEED the talent called "
Barrage
" which means ya have to be 90.
*****
VITAL
*****
When you begin your farming, you want your macro ready at hand, and clickable at all times so very close to your main spells where you can repeatedly tap it. You need mend pet close as well, it only lasts 10 seconds so you need to refresh it as often as possible,
don't let it run out
because it is life and death on your character, and repair bills are nasty ;)
So, finally to the point, say you are facing a pack of 15-20 level 90 mobs, you cast your macro and release your Barrage and face towards any mobs you want to catch in your spray, be cautious of how many you tag, you don't want to wind up like in the battlegrounds when your net flickers and the next thing you see is the entire team of the opposite faction and your corpse. Once barrage has been cast, your misdirection will trigger from your macro and cause you to target an enemy close to you, cast mend pet as quickly as possible, the threat will tug towards you with mend pet, so tap your macro once more as it should be reset by now thanks to the glyph, toss an explosive trap out there and spam multi-shot while keeping that macro clicked upon misdirection reset, and *keep the mend pet up* you don't want your pet to croak, but if it does feign death and start over (trust me it will happen a lot!) It is a little tough to multitask like that, others are amazing at it, I have issues and die here and there still.
Tip for when fighting casters - put your pet on passive and walk around a corner or wall,
line of sight the casters
and then unleash your macro then let the damage fly while keeping mend pet at work. I had to do this quite often with the obnoxious sprites at the golden lotus daily area.
I really hope this helps some of you guys who maybe didn't know about this little trick, it helps farming tremendously especially when going up against terrible drop rates! Happy farming and the best of luck to you :) <3

If you are starting a hunter and become a beast master, orc is quite a good race for it! The orc racial "Command" increases your pet's damage by 2%. It's not much, but every little counts!

My hunter was the second character I ever created in WoW and I fell in love with her. She's had her ups and downs with new xpacs and many changes. WoD build, so far, I really don't like. Not having serpent sting feels wrong. I'm trying to keep an open mind but nothing else feels like the "right" opening attack. Currently I'm using the Blink Strikes talent and when I open with Kill Command my pet blinks to the target and one shots it. This seems awesome, but when you are farming it's HORRIBLE. I can't get a shot in before my pet kills it, therefore, I get no loot:(. I tried opening with Cobra Shot but the instant Auto Attack throws me off and also, what a waste considering at the beginning of a pull I already have full focus. Arcane Shot is a focus dump and using up 30 focus to pull a mob is also, not ideal as I cast Kill Command right after and I'm almost out of focus. Also, it's really annoying how Kill Shot stays lit up after you kill the target until you re-target something else. The glowing makes me feel like I should be using it but of course, the next mob is not less than 20% health so it doesn't work:(
I really hope they make a few changes to fix some of this. If Cobra Shot is going to automatically start my auto shot, then using Kill Command should as well. Then at least I'd feel like I had a decent opener AND I could get loot from the target.
Lastly, BLIZZ why did you totally destroy SV? It has always been my fav spec but now it is weak and nothing about it feels right. Explosive shot and Black arrow feel like their cd's are too long and without Kill Shot the rotation feels....unfinished. I'm always waiting for something to come off CD:(

If someone is interested in some easy macro that can go through changing talents and specs ...
the level 30 tier is called "Stopping Power"
the level 90 tier is called "Heavy Artilery"
just put that in your macro line, no matter what you pick it will be replaced. The typos ARE intended, they are written that way by blizzard and will not work for someone with good grammar.
If anyone knows the other tier's main slot please comment, I will try to set my own later on.

I really wish they'd bring back the ability to stable/exchange pets on the fly. I really see no good reason why this was removed and it makes it all the more painful to try and keep your group full of raid/pvp/pve/solo'ing pets without having to run back to a stable every single time.

Just thought I'd add my little guide I made mostly for myself for the Hunter's Pets Buffs and Abilities
I was sick and tired all the time that there isn't somewhere that has them all in one screen so I know which pet could benefit for the missing buffs in the Party/Raid.
So I made this and thought I'll share it with you guys as well.
I hope it helps.

I'm kinda upset that they removed the pet abilities, It's what made pvp fun because you had a specific pet for fighting specific classes(spiders root vs melee, moth silence vs casters), the only thing I like is that they gave moths a rez ability but aside from that they need to bring abilities back.

In the description (where you choose classes) the Gnomes aren't listed as Hunters, but as 7.0.3 Gnomes can be Hunters aswell.
"Available to Races: Blood Elf, Draenei, Dwarf, Goblin, Human, Night Elf, Orc, Pandaren, Tauren, Troll, Undead, Worgen"
With correction it should be: "Available to Races: Blood Elf, Draenei, Dwarf,
Gnome

Hi there, Thank you very much for giving this a read. First of all, I would like to try to start up a community for the Hunter class specifically. A place for new and old hunters a like, to hang out, or share knowledge of the class rotation and gear management to help everybody who might have questions. With that being said i am by no means the most knowledgeable and still have questions from more experienced hunters from time to time. I hope that with this place we can all gather and share information about all things hunter related.
Here is a link to the community. I hope to see all, if not a lot of hunters take interest in this, because as you know Hunters do take their share of ridicule. Hopefully this place will be above that.
