Cory Stockton (WoW's Lead Content Designer) stated on twitter that this will indeed be one of the new mounts awarded by the new factions in 5.1. There are new mounts coming for both Horde and alliance in the form of Grand Armored Gryphon Grand Armored Wyvern, there are also datamined models without armor for both of these that are rewarded from the new quests in 5.1 that take place in Krasarang Wilds.

With the new faction hubs in Krasarang Wilds, there's a possibility this may be a reward of some kind from the alliance one.
Probably for earning exalted reputation or something like this.

Gryphon mounts are going to be listed and some small tips see below:

Added in The Burning Crusade:

These mounts doesn't need Reputation to learn/get them, you can just go to the vendor and get them for some gold.

Snowy Gryphon - Costs 50g on the vendor.
Ebon Gryphon - Costs 50g on the vendor.
Golden Gryphon - Costs 50g on the vendor.
Swift Purple Gryphon - Costs 100g on the vendor.
Swift Green Gryphon - Costs 100g on the vendor.
Swift Red Gryphon - Costs 100g on the vendor.
Swift Blue Gryphon - Costs 100g on the vendor.

Added in Wrath of the Lich King:

Armored Snowy Gryphon - Costs 2,000g

Added in Cataclysm:

You get this mount through Scroll of Ressurection, Post here and give a player a Scroll of Ressurection to get this mount.

The Horde Version of the Grand Armored Gryphon mount is the Grand Armored Wyvern.

The Horde Version of the Grand Gryphon is the Grand Wyvern.

They are available through the new Operation Shieldwall/Dominance Offensive factions, the Grand mounts from completing achievements and the Grand Armored mounts from purchasing at exalted reputation for 1800g, 1600 with the guild perk.

All in all, this seems to be the new Molten Front Offensive, but factionized.

In practice, it costs 1600g due to only being purchasable at exalted, at which you gain a 20% discount
Hence, *sunglasses on* it's a 1.6 grand armored gryphon

Although this is an Alliance-only mount, once you learn it, you get the Horde version (Grand Armored Wyvern) on your opposite faction alts as well. So, no need to grind more rep to get it.

This is also true for Grand Gryphon and Grand Wyvern.

Two things you should know! You get the normal Grand Gryphon from competing the last quest chain at Exalted and the price for the Armored one at Exaulted is 1,800g with guild perk Just an FYI

Grand Armored Gryphon can be seen as an Ultimate reward for serving the alliance during your service to Opperation Shieldwall, Like it was given by King Varian Wrynn himself. This is to be expected after all you as the player went through.

The Previous version can also be obtained, and by finishing the final Quest in the Shield wall story line, The Silence wherein Anduin is critically injured, you receive the Grand Gryphon as a reward. Which is appropriate as it can be seen as given by Anduin, being the younger lesser form. Upon completion most players reach exalted and can then get Grand Armored Gryphon, which is appropriate as you are now viewed in high regard by the King.

Grand Armored Gryphon and Grand Gryphon are also gryphon's in their own class, totally unique when compared to the rest. They are reskinned and Have an almost Cartoonish look to them, the only ones so far. Also their Wingspan Is far greater then that of normal Gryphon's. This is a definite must have mount!

Grand Armored Gryphon can be Purchased from Agent Malley under the following conditions:

- You must be exalted with Opperation: Shieldwall.
- You must Have 2000 Gold, or 1800 gold with .

And while the Shieldwall saga now ends....the war is far from finished. If you followed the story you would have noticed Jaina's rage. And so next we will move on to serve the Kirin'tor in the battle against the Sunreavers on the isle of Thunder,
And get our hands on the Dire Horn, and Dinosaur mounts...

I really love the new skin. The extended wings really make a difference. Easily the best mount in game (imho). Looking forward to more reskins in the future.

You can purchase this mount, Grand Armored Gryphon, from Agent Malley for 1,800 gold once you reach exalted with the Operation: Shieldwall. It can be used as a ground mount or a flying mount. It is available to Alliance characters only. The Horde version is Grand Armored Wyvern. Interestingly, if you get this mount on one of your Alliance characters you will automatically have the Horde version available to any Horde characters on the same account.

I know I might get downvoted, and even massively downvoted. I'm ready.
And I know some work has been put into this. And I love the shape of it.

But this gryphon is made of cardboard. His texture is cardboard or papercraft, and the color lacks the depth of the model it's based on.

I finished the Landfall campaign and have max rep with Operation: Shieldwall on my alliance mop remix character. Flew out to attempt to find this mount, and Agent Malley isn't there and seems to be replaced by generic remix vendors. So flying out to buy this mount will be another thing to add to your post remix chore list.
