Here's our confirmation that enchants can now be sold on the AH. Inscription/Enchanters will make a killing early on before prices settle.

So Just to be clear, an inscriptionist can make this item... then give it to an enchanter who can then enchant it. You don't have to be both enchanter and inscriptionist. Correct?

Some comments while testing on the PTR:

While it's not explicitly stated I couldn't cast any TBC enchants on it, so there's probably a level 60 requirement on the vellums.
After casting an enchant on it, the vellum turns into a non-unique scroll that takes up one inventory slot (not stackable).
The vellums have no sell price, so it can't be accidentally vendored.

This means that you can (at last) enchant other characters on the same account as your enchanter, which has only been possible by BoE items or finding another enchanter before. Yay!

This also means that we can now find enchants on AH - making it a crafting proffesion instead of a "5g fee" proffesion. It has been hard, if not impossible to gain gold on other than disenchanting with the enchanting proffesion before. I really really REALLY like this feature!

This also means you will have to provide mats yourself, which will either take time farming, or spending money on AH, but since the prices will jump and fall for mats on AH, u'll have to adjust your price all the time + someone will alway put the same enchant on AH for 1g less on AH, i still rather enjoy them coming to me when i happen to go to city for some min and advertise my craft on trade channel and get 20-30g/enchant fee (atleast our realm). :)

I agree, this is huge for the enchanting proff. Almost as big as when they made it possible to organize your enchants instead of hunting through a list of all of them. No more burning mats just to get a couple levels when you couldn't sell the enchant to anybody. YEA!

This also means that, if you see yourself using the enchant again on yourself when you get better gear, you can make a bunch of them now while they skill you up and save them for later. I would have liked to have done this with some of the spirit enchants in TBC. But better late than never :)

Im able to put weapon vellums in my enchanting bag, but not armor vellums. How does that make sense.....

If you let an enchanter enchant the vellum through the 'not trade' you will not get a scroll of that enchant instead you will get the enchant on the weapon/armor vellum(I believe this is a bug). This will make it useless, so trade the vellum to the enchanter as well!.

could you confirm if we can raise enchanting skill using enchant on armor vellum? I try 3 times with a "yellow" enchant and my enchanting skill don't raise...

Confirmed. Enchanting a vellum will make you skillup like you were enchanting a piece of equipment.

As you probably already know, "yellow" skills don't guarantee a skillup.

I find that as of this writing, selling enchants on the AH is very difficult pre-60, unless the enchant is twink-related. People who are leveling often simply do not buy enchants because their gear is replaced so quickly, and because the late introduction of this feature has done little to break the "find an enchanter in person" mindset. Most people wont look on the AH, they'll ask in trade. Even at very low prices for the enchants, low level non-twink enchants rarely sell. It's a shame, because it'd be nice to make money off leveling enchanting, rather than keeping it the insane money sink that it's always been.

Your mileage may vary, but this is my personal experience. Happy enchanting. :)

Edit: Why is this being downrated?I believe my opinion is valid and presented in a constructive manner. I even state that your experience may be different. Selling enchants on the AH is very relevant to this item type as it is the only way to do it, and I'm simply posting this here so people will be cautious about what enchants they're going to try to sell with the vellum, because the vellum itself can be quite an expensive investment depending on your server's economy and you may not even be able to make back the cost for many enchants. Since when is being a consumer advocate a bad thing? :P

So, say I am a scribe and would like to see if it would be cost-effective making these for my enchanter alt or should I simply buy them off an enchanting vendor. Is crafting ever worth it?

Short answer - only if you can get starter herbs for less than 34s 45c per stack. Calculations below.

Q: How cheap does a herb need to be to make crafting a vellum worthwhile?

Base data:
1 Vellum bought for 10s (7s if exalted)
1 Light Parchment bought for 15c (11c if exalted)
5 herbs mill to avg. 2.5 Alabaster Pigments (avg. 2 herbs per pigment)

Base calculations:
o 1 Enchanting Vellum (EV) = 0.5 Moonglow Ink (MI) + 1 Light Parchment (LP)
o 0.5MI = 1 AP = 2 Herbs

So:
1 EV = 2 Herbs + 1 LP
1 EV - 1 LP = 2 Herbs
(1 EV - 1 LP) / 2 = 1 Herb

If you're exalted: (7s - 11c) / 2 = 3s 44c
If not: (10s - 15c) / 2 = 4s 92c

Noob question: Do you need the enchanting skill on the character who is going to use this to enchant their gear? Like can I store my enchants on this, drop enchanting and pick up another profession, and later use the vellums to enchant my gear?

Here's a useful script to use if you're mass producing particular enchantments onto vellum and wish see the whole process done with one press of a button.

Update!

Blizzard made some changes to spell names in patch 6.0.2. The original script from this post has been modified from its previous version to now call individual spell ID's rather than a spell's name itself since enchantments have lost their prefix (e.g., Enchant Bracers, Enchant Boots, Enchant Gloves, etc.) causing there to be numerous spells with the same name. For example, there are now five Agility enchantments, and although they're categorized differently, there was no way for the original script to differentiate between them and would select the first one found named 'Agility'. So!

Here's the new script:

/use Enchanting Vellum

Just copy and paste the above code into an empty macro and replace 159235 (Mark of the Thunderlord) with whatever spell ID of the enchantment you wish to produce in bulk. This can be duplicated as many times as you see fit, or you have empty macro slots for.

This script will only work if:

You have the correct spell ID of the desired enchantment typed into the script.
You have the Enchanting profession.
You have the correct trade skill level for the desired enchantment.
You have the desired enchantment learned already.
You have both Enchanting Vellum and the proper enchanting materials present in your bags (or reagent bank) for the desired enchantment.

You'll know if you failed to meet one or more of these requirements if only your Trade Skill window appears, yet nothing else happens. Please ensure you have met these requirements before you come here to comment and/or down-vote!

Having trouble finding a spell ID for your enchantment? You can find it in the spell's Wowhead url (http://www.wowhead.com/spell=159235), or you can create an additional macro to help you find it in-game:

/run local link = GetTradeSkillItemLink(GetTradeSkillSelectionIndex()) print(link:match("\124H(%w+:%d+)") or "Select an enchant and hit the macro again.")

You can paste this into your macro, open your Trade skill window, select an enchantment from the list (highlight it by clicking on it), and press your macro'd button to return the spell ID of the highlighted enchant directly into your chat box.

It will look something like "enchant:159235." You can take this and type it directly into the aforementioned script. Be sure to label them properly so you can remember what they're for!

Or

An alternative to doing all of the above is to create a macro:

/click TradeSkillCreateButton
/use Enchanting Vellum

Paste the above into it your macro'd button, open your Trade Skill window, select an enchantment from the list (highlight it by clicking on it), and start pressing away. You can do this instead for enchantments that are used less often. It also works well for leveling enchanting too. It still requires that you have the proper materials in your bags or reagent bank to work properly, but it is much simpler.

So you may ask, "Why go through all the trouble when I can use an addon?" Well, they are handy and make everything above more or less pointless; however, they are bulky and confusing to setup and use (for some), so this is an acceptable alternative in lieu of that option. ~~I've used this macro since WotLK and still use it to this day.~~ I can say these scripts ~~still~~ work as of patch 5.2.0 6.0.2. I'll edit again if there are any changes that need to be made in the future.

The macro I like to use for mass enchanting onto vellums is:

/click TradeSkillCreateButton
/use Enchanting Vellum

You click the enchant you want in the tradeskill window, have the materials and vellum in your bags, and hit the macro. Very simple, never needs to be changed.

As of patch 6.0.2 the game UI sees these as "reagents". As such, if you hit your bank and bank of your reagents, it will bank these also. Trouble here is it appears that you cannot then use the vellums without having them in your inventory unlike the other materials.

This, at least, was the case with TradeSkillMaster addon.

The level 3 Garrison Inn keeper <Deedree> (alliance) and Provisioner Halfa sells vellums, along with Tome of the clear mind and Crytsal vials, if you need them.
I would also assume the horde inn keeper also sells them
Not too sure about lower tier garrisons but i would assume so.

Here's a macro to buy them in max stacks with 1 button click.
#showtooltip Enchanting Vellum
/run for i=2,GetMerchantNumItems() do local l=GetMerchantItemLink(i) if l then if l:find(38682) then BuyMerchantItem(i, 200)end end end
You can use this to buy any item from vendors at max stack, just change "l:find(38682)" with database number for the item and "for i=2" to match position in merchant buy window. Also if an item stacks to less then 200 you have to change the "(i, 200)".

On the launch of the dracthyr half of the prepatch, you can no longer enchant these with shadowlands enchants because the vellum is too low level (just a bug) so their auctions went from like 2g to 1500g

It is currently a known bug during the Dragonflight pre-patch that attempting to put a Shadowlands enchant on Enchanting Vellum results in the error "Target is too low level."

From the Blizzard support page:

I cannot enchant a Shadowlands Enchanting Vellum, it says the target is too low level.

We have received multiple reports of this issue and can confirm it is not working as intended. Currently, we do not have a workaround or resolution that can be provided. We apologize for any inconvenience while our developers work as quickly as possible to resolve the issue.

BIG NOTE TO ENCHANTERS: If you ever have a DF (or maybe older?) recipe that will not allow you to enchant it on an Enchanting Vellum, check the spell's tooltip/recipe to see what item it affects.

Example: If the recipe is for a weapon enchant, REMOVE YOUR EQUIPPED WEAPON. Then try to enchant the Enchanting Vellum.

After success then don't forget to re-equip as some people may accidentally disenchant or sell their "junk gear" in their bags and POOF goes your needed gear!
