Finally. It is only fitting, that you will get a mount for this long and exhaustive questline. Even though its fun.
My guess is, that you have to complete the whole Nightfallen questline and get exalted with the faction to get the mount.

Edit 2: You get a quest to receive this after you complete the quest Lord of the Shadow Council which requires you to kill gul'dan in Night Hold.

1) i hope this is not a flying mount (as much as it'd be cool to fly on it, it'd be (a) redundant with the store mount, which i dont believe blizz wants to undermine that income, and (b) it wouldn't fit the theme imo if it were a flying mount)...

2) i hope you don't need the rep to actually use the mount, as it would be quite annoying to have to do the rep grind with every toon just to make it accessible to them (maybe exalted to aquire the first time around, but only honored to use.. so you'd still have to put in some effort but not a full rep grind worth)

This mount is absolutely beautiful!

Only thing that bothers me is the characters legs clipping through the 'saddle.' I guess that is what it is called?

Still going to be getting this as soon as it is released in 7.1.

How to get the mount...

Complete Insurrection questline
In the end you get the optional quest Lord of the Shadow Council (involves killing Gul'dan in the Nighthold)
Kill Guldan, turn in the Lord of the Shadow Council quest to Khadgar in the raid itself.
He will immediately give u The Eye of Aman'thul quest. Click on him to port to Dalaran (do not hearth out) to complete the quest.
Pick up the Fate of the Nightborne quest from Oculeth in Shal'aran. He will provide u with a portal to the Nighthold. Little bit of roleplay before u can speak to him to complete the quest.

My congratulations to everyone who got the mount, and thanks for posting the details on how to go about it. Got mine on normal.. 15th Feb. Best of luck everyone :)

Kinda don't like that this implies that even after all we've done, Suramar will still be hostile to us without the disguise. Really hope it turns out to be like Blade's Edge, where most (if not all) of the ogres become neutral to you after you do the quests to become their king/queen.

I know we haven't gotten to this point yet so maybe something happens that would PREVENT us from being welcome or the Duskwatch just doesn't get the memo, but I'd really enjoy being able to walk around Suramar as my character without the disguise.

Also, I really hope this won't have the Warlords problem of areas not being cleaned up after the big event. I think Karabor still has burning orc corpses in the streets.

DO NOT LEAVE after killing Guldan without talking to Khadgar. The quest that you need, Fate of the Nightborne, is given by Khadgar IN THE ROOM WHERE YOU KILL GULDAN. If you leave and try to go back, Khadgar will be back in the front of the instance when you return without the quest, and no portals will allow you to go back to the last platform, so there is no way to see if he's even up there to retrieve the quest. I screwed up and hearthed out bcz my guildies said that the quest was in Suramar and we had to talk to Oculeth....which is where you complete the quest, not where you pick it up. Just talk to Khadgar and he will send you through a rabbit-hole cinematic back to Dalaran.

Fate of the Nighborne was given by Oculeth after I had left the instance in order to help teleport the Eye to Dalaran with Khadgar.

There are addons like GoGoMount or Livestock which allow setting preferred mount for a zone.

This is useful for Arcanist's Manasaber since it is not just a mount but a disguise.

It would be nice if this mount gave us an unbreakable, undetectable Masquerade, one that the NPCs can not see through. Just imagine, no more, "Who goes there?", "What are you hiding?", "Something's not quite right!" while questing in Suramar City.

Just completed this on normal and ported out by mistake went back an hour after the raid with a friend and completed quest Khadgar there and went through scenario thing and completed quest got mount - confirmed.!

Can confirm as others have stated the method for getting the quest for this mount. Stay in the group and turn in the lead in quest to the last pillar to Khadgar. Teleport out with him to complete the pillars of creation achievement. Then go to Suramar. Pick up quest from Oculeth. At this point I had to drop out of the raid group. When he first sent me in there was no one there but Khadgar at the place I killed Gul'Dan. Left LFR raid group and re-teleported in with Oculeth and completed quest to get my mount. So this can be done on any raid difficulty.

Just finished this for myself due the rumor that the mount goes away when the 7.2 raid is available (so a few weeks or month after 7.2 goes live). That is unconfirmed but I didn't want to test it. I was able to finish the whole insurrection line, then did LFR Ghuldan, and was able to get the mount.

If you are geared and have some time to spare, it should really only take a few hours. Not nearly as hard as Suramar when you first start at 110. Keep in mind, there are two quests which will require extra time. One is for you to do 10 world quests, and another that requires you to complete 5 class order hall missions. Because of these, the quest line took a little longer, but if planned well, shouldn't slow you too much. Make sure not to do all the world quests in the area and make sure not to send all your troops on missions before you get started. This will speed you up.

I can confirm, LFR is completely fine. As long as you have the final "kill ghuldan" quest before you go. You will be able to finish.

I finally got flying so couldn't wait to take this out for a spin above Suramar City as I have always thought the place was beautiful, altho a pain in the butt. (also pick up those chests I couldn't find on the roofs) I wanted to ask if they have nerfed the masquerade effect on this mount? Before it used to apply it when you were on it in Suramar City but I noticed it didn't this time. I saw this the other day when I was doing the wq there and got attacked. It just seems to be since the patch, I know have to don the mask.
ETA: What below said, I was a bit slow on the uptake of mechanics. Yes mount in city turns on mask

As of 7.3, questlines from Suramar are no longer reputation gated, so you can now get this item without actually being Exalted with the Nightfallen, however you cannot learn/use the mount until you hit Exalted with them.

Don't lose it from your bags.

For this mount to apply the masquerade buff that transforms you into a Nightborne while in Suramar you actually have to complete the Masquerade questline on that character. Tried using this on a fresh lvl 110 alt, but didn't get the Masquerade buff until the respective questline got completed.

This mount still needs a reputation of Exalted with the Nightfallen. So if you did all of the questchain after 7.3 without hitting exalted you can't ride this awesome mount... Grumble grumble...

It would seem that nightborne players can actually take the portal from the nighthold to shal'aran, speak with Thalyssra, and obtain the mount directly from her, for free, without ever having done the raid.. unsure if this is a bug or not

Funny enough, to all those who made a Nightborne character after pre-purchasing BFA (Standard or Digital Deluxe Editions) will get this mount entirely for free when you go inside Shal'aran (Get up to level 110 first! Boost or no Boost) and speak to Thalyssra about her wares, and see that you get that mount at no cost.

Problem Solved!

So those who make a Nightborne, should not need to kill Gul'dan to get it, because he's already dead! xD

Important Information for anyone that has race-changed to Nightborne BEFORE finishing the required Raid quest: Lord of the Shadow Council and Fate of the Nightborne.

Just go speak to Thalryssa at Shala'ran and she will sell you this mount for free. When you are a Nightborne, you get both these quests automatically completed.

Okay... It might be a bug or something on purpose... But raid and stuff are not necessary to get the mount. Here is what I've done:

- I got Good Sumaritan because I wanted flying.

- I got Insurrection because I wanted to unlock Nightborne.

- Then, with my lvl 30 Nightborne, I HS to Suramar, took the portal to Shal'Aran and there, I talked to First Arcanist Thalyssra. Saw what she had to sell. She had the Arcanist's Manasaber for me free of charge (see picture)

I have not done any raid and especially not Nighthold, I didn't do any Khadgar quest whatsoever.

My other characters can also use this mount (so cool it can fly!).

In patch 8.0 you can still get this mount as a Nightborne character without having to kill Gul'dan, so it's most likely a permanent feature and not a bug

Recap for everyone who might be confused between Arcanist's Manasaber and Nightborne Manasaber:

Yes, you get both mounts after you unlock the Nightborne allied race
Yes, Arcanist's Manasaber is a flying mount, scaling with riding skill
No, you don't need to complete the NIghthold to get the Arcanist's Manasaber
Yes, you can get Arcanist's Manasaber at level 20, as soon as you create your Nightborne toon
Yes, Arcanist's Manasaber is account wide an can be used by any toon

You get the Nightborne Manasaber as a reward for unlocking the Nightborne race.
To get the Arcanist's Manasaber completely free, you have to do the following:

Create a nightborne character and accept the quest from Thalyssra that sends you to Orgrimmar
Use your hearthstone to get back to the Nighthold starting zone where your toon popped
This time take the other portal, that takes you to Shal'aran. Here you will find "another" Thalyssra, marked as an innkeeper
Click and choose the trade option, Arcanist's Manasaber is the first item, free of charge
(this may work without taking the quest to Orgrimmar altogether, hadn't test yet)

IN BFA: Well i finished the quest-line to unlock the Nightborne, after doing so, i created one, and from there went thru the portal back to the Nightborne questing hub in Suramar, talked to Thalyssra, and she sold it "for free", and got it without killing Gul'dan in the Night Hold. Was a bit confused, but whatever, got it :D

As others have said, with the BFA rollout you now can roll a nightborn and get this mount without doing the Gul'dan raid quest. If you already have a nightborn character (or you can make one) take the port from the Orgrimmar Embassy (just outside the embassy) to Nighthold. Talk to Thalryssa if you have not already done so. There are portals right down the platform from her. Take the portal to Shal'aran. Go to Thalryssa in Shal'aran, open up the option to buy/trade goods and it's the first item on the top of her list. No cost

This mount is still obtainable as level 10, you are able to get out of the starting area (where your Hearthstone is set to when creating your character) and simply run to Shal'Aran. As many other has stated, find Thalyssra and first item in the shop should be Arcanist's Manasaber!

To me this is the best mount in the game. It looks great, it's not too big which means it doesn't obstruct your view or get stuck in smaller paths and it flies too! Takes a lot of effort to get it but it's definitely worth it. Fantastic mount.

As of Nov 29, 2020 on fresh Nightborne characters, my husband and I were able to "buy" the mount - after using the recruit a friend summon & summoning each other to Shal'aran.

We tried to use the mount but it said we couldn't use the item. We hit 20 last night and bought the max level of riding available and were still U N A B L E to use the mount.

So either Shadowlands release added a hidden level requirement to the item or something is broken.

Currently have a ticket in, will try and update if I get anywhere.

As of 9.1 Blizzard "nerfed" the portal to Shal'aran located in Nighthold (Nightborne starting area) and it now requires level 45 to use and even if you get to Shal'aran by other means, it seems the mount has a hidden level requirement of 45 to learn. So you can no longer learn this mount with a newly created Nightborne character at level 10.

To make things worse, if you complete Fate of the Nightborne with a non Nightborne character you won't be able to learn the mount if that character is not Exalted with the Nightfallen faction.

Fear not. Here's the fastest and easiest way to get the Arcanist's Manasaber :

1. Create a "Class Trial" and choose Nightborne as the race (that character will be level 48)
2. After entering the world, immediately use your hearthstone, it will take you to Orgrimmar
3. Go to Orgrimmar's Embassy and take the portal to Nighthold just outside the embassy
4. Now you can take the portal to Shal'aran located in Nighthold (it requires level 45 and you're 48)
5. Trade with Thalyssra and she will give you the mount for free
6. Click the mount in your bags to learn it (account wide)
7. Enjoy your new mount :D

Not sure when this occurred, but in 9.2.0 the Masquerade is a ghostly figure AND stands on top of the Manasaber like it's surfing. No idea why or when this happened.

Finally got this one.
I saw it in First Arcanist Thalyssra's vendor goods, it looked like a rep grind and you could buy it.
Turns out it took the rep grind, 20 storylines (100's of quests), and a large dungeon run.
This was the most difficult mount I have gotten to date.

Simply make a Nightborne trial character and you can purchase the mount for free. Every character will keep the mount even after deleting the trial.

How to get the Arcanist's Manasaber in under 30 minutes total in TWW. (5-10 minutes if Nightborne is already unlocked)
~~Unlock Nightborne which now takes about 20ish minutes.~~

Next part takes 5-10 minutes. (I never did a single Suramar quest!)

Make a Nightborne Mage and, since you cannot take the portal to Shal'aran (as it now requires level 45), just walk as far as you can towards Suramar until you are met with a big closed gate. Have no fret, for we are determined...

Read this carefully... Use your mount to CAREFULLY jump on top of the back left side of the railing that leads up to the top of the gate and then walk about halfway up. If you fall off the left side into the water you will be teleported back to spawn. PAUSE!

Cast Slow Fall on yourself and then mount back up. Now you're going to sidestep the gate entirely by jumping across the water and landing on the road in front of the gate. (I got this on my first try, so it shouldn't be too difficult.)

From this point forward be careful because mobs will be level ? and 1-shot you. If you die, just hit revive. (I died to a little arcane dude that charged me and exploded once I was nearing the bridge to Meredil area.)

Now all you have to do is walk all the way to the area by Meredil, where you will find another portal to Shal'aran on your left side in some ruins. Avoid the teleporter that is surrounded by Kirin Tor on the way there. (If you accidentally fall in like I did, just carefully take it again to come right back up and continue.)

Once you reach the ruins on your left-hand side, you will walk up to the portal and continue past it into that little grassy area behind the ruins. Don't venture too far out!

Now locate the entrance to the cave that First Arcanist Thalyssra is inside of and you're going to want to get as close as you can before making a jump for it.

SURPRISE! You should now be standing right next to her...

Tell her you wish to trade and you can now buy it from her for FREE! (Nightborne are already considered to have done all the quests and reached exalted!)

That is how you get the Arcanist's Manasaber in about 5-10 minutes!

11.0.5: To get the Arcanist's Manasaber completely free, you have to do the following:

Create a TRIAL Nightborne character, which starts in Orgrimmar.
Fly up to the Embassy. Outside it on the right is a portal to Nighthold.
Go down the steps ahead of you and take the portal to Shal'Aran on the right, as before.
Thalyssra is on your right, marked as an innkeeper.
Click and choose the trade option, Arcanist's Manasaber is the first item, free of charge.
Use the item in your bag.
Relog and confirm on another toon it's in your collection. Then you can delete the trial character.

There seems to be a LOT of confusion about getting things free and what to do and blah blah blah. Here's the simple way to get this mount (and there are requirements and differences between Arcanist's Manasaber and Nightborne Manasaber ).

You get Nightborne Manasaber by creating a Nightborne character. That's the faction mount. It does NOT FLY and is ground only, and restricted to Horde players only.

You get Arcanist's Manasaber by becoming Exalted with the Nightfallen faction from Legion. This a slightly different looking mount, and is available to both factions and is capable of flying!

To get both easily, you must have at least a level 40 Horde character. For Alliance, you have 2 options. Don't make the same mistake I did.

Level 40+ Horde Character Available:

On any Level 40+ Horde character, do the Nightfallen embassy quest in Orgrimmar. It takes at most a few minutes and automatically unlocks the Nightfallen race and the faction mount, which is the Nightborne Manasaber.
Once you have unlocked the Nightfallen race, create a trial character of any class - must be Nightfallen. You'll spawn in Orgrimmar. Turn around and run to the portal room located within the front gates. Literally, bust a 180 - run forward and turn left. Take the portal to Azsuna.
Fly to the Nightfallen "city" Shal'Aran in Suramar. Or run, whatever. Do whatever you need to do to get to that cave.
As a Nightborne character, you are automatically Exalted with the Nightfallen race. You are looking for First Arcanist Thalyssra. She will be standing off to the left when you enter Shal'Aran.
Talk to her. One of her options is to buy stuff. When that window opens, you'll see Arcanist's Manasaber as the first item listed. It'll be free. Purchase and learn. Log onto another character to confirm it's in your collection.

If you have Alliance characters only, and no access to the Nightborne race, follow these steps:

Option 1: Rep-grind the Nightfallen faction and get to Exalted over the course of about 3-4 days. On my Alliance hunter, I was able to do all the Good Suramaritan and Insurrection lines and got to about 2000 rep short of Exalted. You'll need to a) Wait for a Legion timewalking event and buy the rep tokens to get you over the edge, or b) do the WQ's for Nightfallen for a week-ish and the Withered Training Grounds every few days to grind out those last rep points. WQ's and WTG's give about 350-400 rep per. So maybe 2-3 days more. I was able to the entire questline of Insurrection in about 2 days at level 80 in War Within. And I was only limited by that stupid quest that required 10 WQ's to be done in Suramar. At the end of Insurrection you'll automatically receive Arcanist's Manasaber as a reward. I received it and wasn't Exalted yet so I couldn't use it. FRUSTRATING BLIZZARD. >:O
Option 2: Probably the same amount of time -- level a fresh Horde toon to 40 and do the above. You can probably get to 40 in about the same time it takes to do the Insurrection questline. Maybe faster. Then follow the above steps to get your Manasaber.

I hope that clears things up. I kept reading about all these ways to get the for free and was confused -- some people suggested the Nightborne faction mount "was the same thing". It isn't. It's faction locked and doesn't fly. The Arcanist Manasaber looks better, is cross-faction, and it FLIES.

Anyone else notice this mount is missing? I've been grinding rep with a friend and when we were selling tonight, we noticed the mount isn't available from Thalyssra anymore. Did they remove it? Bug / glitch / error?

Blizzard have ruined this mount for steady flying. The flapping sound is now completely out of sync with the animation (you get flapping noises when gliding) and, in Dragon flying, you can get the flapping sound while using it as a ground mount. It's been like this for months despite me reporting it when it first started.
