One of the best uses for this item will be to go back to Ulduar and use it to help get Iron Dwarf, Medium Rare (25 player) and the 10 man version for those who have not yet completed it.

This achieve is currently a major pain to get even with no armor on as the dwarfs still die in 1-3 hits. This toy will make it 100x easier as you can do it fully armored and not worry about killing them. Great addition Blizz! :)

Soft Foam Sword hits an enemy of trivial difficulty for 90% of their HP.
Perfect for doing old quests where you have to take them low before you can use an quest item on them.
It's sold by Jepetto Joybuzz in the new Dalaran for 50 gold at the coordinates 44.45.

well this will help with lot of quests, but there are still places where this won't help as 90% percent hit is still too much - mostly some old achievements where you need trigger something more then once like Crushing Bones and Cracking Skulls or 90% hit make you skip mechanic you need for achievement - thankfully there isn't so many of those

Maybe add also "Soft Foam Mace" - hit trivial enemy for 10% of its health

Has anyone tested exactly what the "trivial" part means? 5 levels below you ? 10? Could this be used to quickly farm elite animals for the garrison barn at 110?

This item does damage equal to 90% of the enemy's maximum health, has a 3.5 second cast, has no cooldown, Not usable in dungeons/raids and "trivial difficulty" means non-elite enemies 20 or more level lower than you (e.g. level 80 enemies as level 100).

Also used on a 16hp Rapana Whelk and it hurt the critter for only 15 hp. The critter was still alive, made me LOL.

You can put this toy on your action bar to cast it like a normal attack. If you attack an enemy twice with this they will die. If you attack an enemy with < 90% health they will die. Got a "Cannot attack that target" message when attempting to use on elite enemies. Got a "Cannot use that here" message when attempting to use this in a dungeon. Assume it will be the same for raids.

Here are my tests with this toy on the PTR before pre-patch as level 100 Warrior to support this. I've tested again on Live and it looks like this is still accurate.

Useable on non-elite enemies in Icecrown, Northern Barrens and Ashenvale
UNuseable inside of Wailing Caverns dungeon
UNuseable on elite Raging Ancient in Ashenvale
UNuseable on non-elite level 83 Sha-Infested Prowler
UNuseable on non-elite level 84 Muddied Water Elemental
Usable on non-elite level 80 Scalding Rock Elemental
Scalding Rock Elemental below 90% health died on the first attack with this toy

Did not get a chance to test on an non-elite rare but I assume it would work on non-elite rares.

Shame on you Blizzard... WTF was the Soft Foam Sword created for?... seems pretty damned LAME that a toy just issued during the pre-patch can't even be used DURING the pre-patch on very low level quests from (what 4?) many Xpacks ago.

Just to name two, Lunk's Adventure: Cranky Little Dwarfs and Lunk's Adventure: Spider Rider

On my ilevel 705 BMH, I found that equipping Simple Dagger, running up to the Dwarves (also works for Spiders in Lunk's Adventure: Spider Rider) and giving them a single hit worked fine. Since I had Auto Attack already on my action bar, I clicked it on and then IMMEDIATYELY off again.

FYI: the Simple Dagger is sold by a plethora of vendors, but the most convenient might be Gnimo who can be found on the Traveler's Tundra Mammoth. This is still ONE advantage that mount has over the bloated-priced Grand Expedition Yak!

Fun fact: This toy is quite useful for capturing level 90 beasts for your garrison barn in Draenor, if you're there for whatever reason. I've found it very handy on my druid as meleeing them normally results in death after two hits :P

Unfortunately, it does not work on the PTR server I have already reported several times, unfortunately no response. I do some quests in Draeonor on the 114 Paladin tank and it does not work.

Currently in pre-patch. I was using this to trap wolves for my Garrison Barn. It now says that the wolves are invalid targets.
Seems that it won't work anymore. Have to think of something else, I guess

Today I made the "discovery" for the Soft Foam Sword. For any players with non-50 level characters who want to do legacy content the solution is to go to the capital city (Orgrimmar or Stormwind), find Chromie (look on the map for the hourglass symbol) and activate Chromie time for the respective expansion. This will scale the mobs to the level of your character and you will not be one-shotting the mobs.

The toy starts working for max-level characters (when Chromie time is no longer applicable). Sadly, Blizzard are yet to set a clarifying tooltip (and I kind of doubt they will), so - yeah.

Sorry for not giving the news you probably expected.

In the prepatch 9.0.1:
I can confirm again that it does not work on wolves etc. for garrizon traps. Here is what I did at 50 when I could not get the death debuff due to some bug:
1. Go to the Frostfire Ridge. Activate the shaman stone that allows you to summon a wolf when fighting.
2. Take off all items.
3. Find a pack of beasts. Kill some - the wolf spawns.
4. The wolf brings a beast to low hp (remember, you do not command it - check which one).
5. Place the trap.
6. Aggro the wounded beast (for me - my aggro ability in bear form) while standing behind the trap.
7. The beast runs over the trap and gets caught.
8. Profit!

Other low-level helper-summoning abilities and trinkets might work, but I have not tested it.
Btw, this costs no money for repairs)

QUICK FIX for people that used this for Draenor Garrison Barn Traps.

Use a level 2/3 Barracks and add a follower to it on your architects table. Then go to outside your barracks and ask him/her to join you on patrol.

Now seek out your prey! Use a non-damaging ability on your target which will engage your bodyguard in combat and this will do appropriate damage to your beast giving you time to trap it!

Doesn't work in Shadowlands prepatch right now on gray level 35 mobs in Uldum, while character being 48. A possible solution (to complete some quests) is to undress lol and get resurrection sickness, worked for me.

Blizz response to queries about it not working.

The Soft Foam Sword is useable on NPCs that are a trivial difficulty to your character. This means that it can only be used if the character is at least 20 levels higher than the NPC you're targeting.

The sword has a couple of other limitations: it cannot be used in dungeon or raid instances and cannot be used on rare elite creatures.

As foam sword works only on mobs +20 levels under you, guard does not act when they hit me and i one shot mobs even naked- killing yourself and getting ress sickness works to not one shot them if youre not able to use foam sword and kill them- only for 10 min but in shadowmoon next to anguish fortress theres graveyard next to tons of wolves (bit in middle of all crossroads) you can just trap and kill yourself- tag them and trap, wait for ressick to end-kill yourself and again. Annoying but hey it works.

Looks like they might have reduced the level difference needed in 9.1, as a level 50 I'm able to use this on level 40s in Draenor.

First time I've used it in a long time, but in 10.0 it's causing me to auto attack my target after the cast finishes, instantly killing what I was trying not to kill.

This works great didn't remove anything on my level 70, 415 ilvl druid and was able to bonk level 40 mobs to complete a quest.

TWW Update: Can confirm that it works on open-world lvl 70 NPCs. Still does not work in raids, dungeons, or other instances.

Use the Toy "Whole-Body Shrinka' " if you gotta low dps raid bosses. Just unequip everything and auto hit them.

I was doing this quest Frenzied Manafeeders on my level 80 druid.
Mobs were level 40 and died instantly from anything I threw at them. (-_-)
The sword solved the issue, I confirm it's still functioning as intended.

As of the MidnIght expansion, I found the toy seller at a permanent shop in Dalaran. I could not find the toy sellers in their previous locations (Stormwind, Founders Point, etc.)
