Best place to fish for these are the pools just southwest of Crows Crook (51,30). It seems that there are always two nodes that spawn in the eastern pool, and one node in eastern pool. If you're lucky you'll get a spawn in the center pool. The nodes have a consistent 5 to 6 minute spawn timer, so if you get some Abyssal Gulper Eel Bait by the time you finish using it all the nodes will be back up again. If you don't have any bait just fish the waters normally, you might get some bait and all the Crescent Saberfish Flesh you get will make you some extra money since it is a major ingredient in many alchemy potions.

You don't need to fish in schools anymore to catch a specific fish. In order to fish these you will need to attach Abyssal Gulper Eel Bait.

The nodes on the map is still the places where you catch them, but by having the bait active you don't have to bother moving around from school to school.

Crows Crook is the best way to go. I fished for 20 minutes at southport and didn't catch any.

Are you finding the pools by Crow's Crook too dark, too small and too crowded with both hostile mobs and other fishers? I've found that the absolute best place to fish, if you've got the bait already, is in the giant, well-lighted river that runs down the zone's eastern coast.

If you fly in at Crows Crook, you can fish at 51.25 32.79 and agro zero mobs.

Finally came here to find that these "abyssal" fish aren't in the ocean. They need to be renamed :-(

I took the FP to Akeeta's Hovel and fished in the lake right next to the FP. There were zero mobs to agro and while there were no pools at all I fished up the 100 enormous finish pretty quickly.

In about 45 mins I got the following:

100 Enormous Abyssal Gulper Eel
29 Enormous Crescent Saberfish
7 Abyssal Gulper Eel Bait
4 Ephemeral fishing poles
3 Fragrant pheromone fish
1 Awesomefish
1 Worm Supreme
1 Sharpened Fish Hook
1 Strong Fishing Pole
1 Shiny Bauble

Fishing skill 700 plus Nat's hat & lure, Ephemeral Fishing Pole, and Abyssal Gulper Eel bait.

My fishing was at around 180 (with Abyssal Gulper Eel Bait and Worm Supreme applied to my Ephemeral Fishing Pole to make things a little easier). You can fish for these in your Garrison even though the quest giver tells you that you gotta go to Spires of Arak.

A level 1 Garrison Fishing Shack will allow you to get Small Abyssal Gulper Eel (but you need to fish up 20-40 for the quest because getting 20 of them to gut and clean DOES NOT guarantee 10 Abyssal Gulper Eel Egg.
With a level 2 Garrison Fishing Shack, you can fish up Abyssal Gulper Eel which only requires 10 of to gut and clean.
A level 3 Garrison Fishing Shack will allow you to fish up Enormous Abyssal Gulper Eel, which only requires 5 of to gut and clean.

Obviously, the higher level your fishing, the better. But if you're low like me, make sure you apply the Supreme Worm (or any type of bauble you can get that will increase your fishing skill) and ALWAYS apply the Abyssal Gulper Eel Bait which you can fish up randomly from your Garrison pond. With my skill level being so low, I was surprised it only took me 15 minutes to catch all the fish I needed for the quest.

You will fish up "small" fish in Draenor while your fishing skill is low, but as you keep fishing and gain skill points you will find larger versions of this fish which require less catches to gut & clean. To catch normal or "Enormous" versions while your skill is low, try adding a good lure to your pole such as Worm Supreme.

I have found the best spot for these to be around 55, 33 in Spires. It is close to the flight path crows crook. It often spawns pools but using the bait works wonders here.

As of 6.1, cleaning of fish has gotten a LOT simpler. It now takes 5 fish to clean, no matter what size they are, and they now give a set amount of mats. Current yield is as follows, per 5 fish.

Enormous: Yields 20
Normal: Yields 10
Small: Yields 5

There is a small pond at 47.7, 19.6 that has no mobs, and a pool that spawns about every 5-8 mins. With a skill of 700 plus eel bait, my catch rate for enormous for the achieve was around 80% without the pool. Good if you want laid-back fishing.....the best kind imo.

I caught these for cooking and for the Abyssal Gulper Eel quest. I had a lot of success catching these at Sethekk Hollow in Spires of Arak, right next to Talon Watch. There's Spiteful Animates and Crazed Outcasts nearby, but I was able to perch up above the water at 63.4, 41.8 and didn't have any problems.

It's helpful to use a bladebone hook, oversized bobber, and Abyssal Gulper Eel bait, which you will likely fish up while fishing for them.

I caught what I needed for my quest within a couple minutes then stayed to catch more for cooking. I'd also fished by the Writhing Mire while doing another quest, but it doesn't appear abyssal gulper eels can be found there.

As of the start of the Midnight expansion, the most relevant reason to use these is as part of the recipe for the Hungry Human's Platter, from the Cooking profession. Its flesh must first be turned into Grilled Gulper. If you are clearing out your old hoards of fish, you may not want to vendor these immediately (possible AH sale or hold on if you want to craft the item/sell the item yourself.)
