These have a random chance of being obtained when using Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim on the various progenitor forges (orbs) around Zereth Mortis.

Fifteen of them can be turned into an Globo di Effimero, which can contain:

Ten can also be combined with Tiara Cismetrica, for the one time quest Disco Cismetrico which rewards Pocopoc Malvagio, 200x Flusso Cosmico, and 24x Codici dei Primi.

For many of the larger or floating forges, the positioning and range can be a problem. For best results, you should stand nearer their vertical centre (of the whole orb) rather than on top. For many floating forges, you can do this by standing within one of the dips on the orb.

There is a 3 minute cooldown on tapping the same forge, but you can get lucky and find one that doesn't go on cooldown until many uses.

How to do Disco Cismetrico:

get Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim from Firim located in Zereth Mortis inside the cave (Exile's Hollow).
use Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim on Forgia dei Progenitori to get 1x Tiara Cismetrica, 100x Enigmet di Traccia, 10x Fili di Effimero and 5x Particelle Eidoliche.
combine all items to get the quest Disco Cismetrico. Rewards: Pocopoc Malvagio part of Moda dei Primi.

Where to get all items:
Tiara Cismetrica has low drop. I got from Forgia dei Progenitori located in Circle of Thought. /way 46,9, 63,0 Kismetric Circlet
Enigmet di Traccia I got 100x in 2 minutes from Forgia dei Progenitoris located in Forge of Afterlives, around /way 44,6, 52,0 Trace Enigmet
Fili di Effimero drop from Forgia dei Progenitoris everywhere (not 100% drop).
Particelle Eidoliche can drop from the 4x Big Forgia dei Progenitoris located around the name Forge of Afterlives in your map. You can see drawned on the map. If doesn't drop wait a few minutes or hours and try again.

Complete chapter 3 of Zereth Mortis main storyline
This will unlock the Firim questgiver
Complete several Firim quests and after you complete Materiali della creazione
Now you can talk with Firim and get Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim
Use Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim near the spheres that you see around Zereth Mortis (big and small landscape spheres)
There is a chance that you will get Fili di Effimero on use

As of February 25th, it seems the item is missing in the game.
After 30+ minutes of farming it I got 0 drops, although I got 160x Enigmet di Traccia and 4x Particelle Eidoliche. Additionally, when I use Tiara Cismetrica I get the error message "Missing reagent: UNKNOWN" instead of "Missing reagent: Ephemera Strands".

The item is back in the game and I retroactively got a lot of it.

So I got some from a Canteric Cache today that was for a world quest, but it was really weird. I completed the cache puzzle like 5 times and the world quest wouldn't complete, I have 5 ephemera strands in my backpack that show up as a question mark which has "Retrieving item information" when moused over. I only figured out it was ephemera strands when I sold it to a vendor and bought it back it said what it was. This is really weird and glitchy.

Found a true infinite farm spot.

Make you way to /way 34.88 46.23 Exactly. ( its on top of a pillar)
Make sure you are looking at the stone and start tapping. ( You will be looking towards the Path of Inception on the map)
Wait for the effect to disappear from the stone and tap again.
Profit.

P.s This stone is also the only one I found that drops the Serene Pigment

Infinite farm spots:
/way 38.19 64.33
/way 38.96 37.87 (you gotta glide or slow fall from the broken pillar to the medium sized floating orb above the small one. Be warned there is a patrolling set of flyers that will aggro).

Just wait for the purple effect to dissipate between casts. If you're down-voting, its because you're not in the right position. It can be finicky to get it right.

Edit: Welp. Blizz put the kybosh on this so no more infinite farm spots =/

How to farm this optimally (with exactly 3 seconds of the CD between casts):

Go to /way 42.12 57.26 Two small spheres
Stand on the spheres so you aren't on the ground.
Use yourZipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim when on the center of the bigger sphere. The bigger one should go blue.
Move about half way down the big sphere towards the little one and use your item there as soon as it is off cooldown. The little one should go blue.
The big one should not be blue anymore, so go to step 3.

You can use /timer 180 for timer and realm hopping with Antros world quest or other rare queue (thanks RemusYT and Lizonya)

The strands required to make this have ~20-25% drop rate from using the forge-tap on orbs (see other comments).

Best farming is in the GREEN (southwest) part of Zereth Mortis. I can get an orb every 10-15 minutes in this area.

The rare items that drop (pet, key, yolk) CAN drop from the same orb (I got 2 of the rare items from 1 orb).

Not sure if this will help people while farming, but I discovered something interesting today while out in ZM.

It always bugged me how the larger the forge, the harder it was to get the strands to drop (along with the rare items for the achievement). My thought is that despite the size of the sphere, they all use the same sized hit-box that the scanner triggers and that it is set on a 2D plane. I noticed that I could snag smaller forges from yards away (as to not agro mobs), but the larger forges I literally had to be standing right next to them. One of the largest four at the 'corners' of the center of the zone was where I thought about this, since I had to get my face right on top of it for it to trigger.

Now, I can't verify this as there is no real way to measure in game and it didn't work 100% of the time (sometimes they didn't trigger at all, no matter how close, must be a bug). I also think that the scanner is set to a 2D plane or a very, very narrow 3D plane because it is almost impossible to trigger it standing on top of the sphere. Essentially, the range and the spread of the scanner's "view" is fixed into one location, probably around your character's waist. This also explains why you can't trigger one behind you, only from certain angles in front of you and you must be on the ground or ground level. That would explain why, when hunting for certain achievement items, you have to stand down on the indent of the sphere and not on top.

I'm sure at this point most people have worked on this and are well past needing this info, but for future players, this might help a bit.

I don't know if it's obvious to you but if you're looking for the mentioned "giant" orbs for the eidolic bits needed for the Kismetric Circlet, they are so large they are visible on the world map in a sort of square surrounding the center Forge Of Afterlives.

To be honest so far I've only gotten the two in the friendlier side of the map there to trigger yet.

Confirmed, the "hit box" has to include the diameter of the sphere you're trying to tap.

For small one's that's easy, even broadly so. Enough so that globes hanging up in a tree but not very far, are reachable.
For the huge ones I could park on top, not get anything, fall off the side and be at the base, got it. No other changes.

It has to be the diameter.

First speak with Firim to get Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim. Firim is located in cave 35,2 45,6. Or do it when WQ Materiali della creazione is up ( when you finish WQ but you will not do Achi don't wary now you cen get this item from NPC ).

Then Use Zipolo di Scorta della Forgia di Firim on Stone Orbs, You need to face them and is not working on all Stone Orbs, if You use item on Orb and nothing is happening just move to next one.

Main Reward from achivement is Trasportatore di Mortis but during it you can get Pocopoc Malvagio, Geordy or Chiave della Cassa di Provis to open treasure Cassa di Provis Chiusa.

Farming tip.

Do it when Firim gives one of the quest where you have to use the Forge-Tap.
The orbs which can be tapped, has the lootable glimmer around them, even if you finish the quest. So after you are done, fly around the quest area, and you can tap those that you see glimmering.
After you tapped all the has the glimmer, abandon the quest, and reaccept it.
I dont know if it is because you accept the quest, but the tappable orbs seems to respawn instantly.

During Materials of Creation I got 47 Ephemera Strands under 30 minutes, by doing the above mentioned method.

During Hollow Efforts I got 45 Ephemera Strands under 30 minutes.

On my journey farming these items i found a good spot at /way 41.11 53.54, which has some orbs around giving at least 2 each time and its close to /way 34.6 46.7
which gives 1 per 3 minute, so you can make it like a circle.

For those of you who don't like realm hopping and or waiting around for 3 minutes at the infinite forge from ElmaSaenji comment:
Blizzard has made the achievement progress account wide, meaning that any one of your characters getting the yolk will complete the achievement for all your characters.
So for those of you who have like 4-6 characters with access to Zereth Mortis: character hopping works just fine.

#1: Place all your characters at the forge with Firims Forge Tap
#2: tap the forge
#3: logout
#4: log in with the next character
#5: repeat steps 2-4

doesn't matter which one of them gets lucky.

20 second logout timer, 5 second login time, a bit to tap and stuff and maybe check the map for rares and 6 characters will make the lap at a bit more than 3 minutes for me.
I'll do a count later but I am projecting roughly 100-110 Fili di Effimero per hour (or 7 Globo di Effimero for that matter)

On a side note: I can recommend combining this tedious task with some picture-in-picture videos from your favourite video on demand website.

Edit: well, I haven't been doing it perfectly but it took me about 50 minutes to get an orb on all 6 characters.
(which got me 3 keys, 2 pets and no yolk, so yeah. still gotta suffer the terrible rng.)

You can collect Ephemera Strands pretty easily during the daily quest Sforzi vani.
You can run around outside the questing zone and collect from almost any copper orb in Zereth Mortis.
I got about 20 strands in 15 minutes.

And against all odds... I got the Yolk, the Key, and Geordy in my first orb...

All of the forges at these points have a chance to yield Fili di Effimero. If you hit all of these, the first should be reset by the time you get back to the start. Then you can just continue the loop again.

This is so infuriating farm. You go to sphere and sphere not work, and not possible to see sphere will work or not. You go to sphere and sphere works, but don't gives shard, not possible to see when you got shard. You go to sphere and get shard, but after 15 shards you will not get battlepet. What a painful junk of farm. RNG on RNG and RNG.

I just completed Traversing the Spheres and got my anima charged yolk today 28 January 2025.

I found these 5 spheres would consistently give me 1 Ephemera Strand.

I would fly between them with Steady Flight, wait 5 mins or so and then fly again.

I also got my anima charged yolk on my first Ephemera Orb, so the buff rate may have been buffed since I tried it a couple of years ago.

I would say the farm to get 15 Ephemera Strands is slow but you can make it consistent, rather than flying around to any random sphere you see.
