You get Corruption Resistance, allowing you to wear more and more Corruption gear.

The Item Level of the Cloak increases every rank increase.

You get an On Use to remove all Corruption Effects for 6 sec at Rank 6

You get a Large Main Stat Proc for 15 seconds at Rank 12.

The cloak is required for the Carapace of N'Zoth fight in Ny'alotha, the Waking City - Not having the cloak equipped ensures you will become mind-controlled by the fight's abilities.

We’re now a couple of weeks from some players reaching Rank 15 on their legendary cloaks, and we’d like to clarify how you’ll further improve your cloak in the weeks after hitting Rank 15.

At Rank 15, players who wish to make use of more and greater Corrupted items will want to imbue themselves with greater Corruption Resistance. This is done at Rank 15 with a Malefic Core, which can be consumed and applied to the cloak, increasing the cloak’s max Corruption Resistance by 3. There are two ways to acquire a Malefic Core:

Complete all four objective areas and the boss in a Horrific Vision.
Defeat N’Zoth the Corruptor in Ny’alotha on Normal (or higher) difficulty.

Players who are at the limit of the cloak’s progression can receive one Malefic Core from the first of these two activities completed each week, and can continue to upgrade their cloak with a Malefic Core once per week for the remainder of Visions of N’Zoth. However, if your cloak isn’t caught up to the current cap, you can acquire and use up to two Malefic Cores per week by doing both of the activities above.

Beginning with weekly maintenance in each region the week of March 24, players who previously reached Rank 15 will start receiving a Malefic Core from the two feats listed above.

What is the timeline for all of this? Is it actually gated? Or, is it just gated by the amount of Coalescing Visions you can farm? Getting enough for the 3 weekly Vessel of Horrific Vision is easy enough, but could you theoretically farm enough to go into the visions and have a fully upgraded cloak in the first week?

Is there a point that the hardcore raiders are shooting for? Have it at level 6 by raid open? level 12 by mythic? Is there a level us plebs should be looking to have before raid opens?

Disappointing that engineers won't be able to use a Tinker's Kit to upgrade their Ashjra'kamas, Shroud of Resolve to cast Goblin Glider.
Professions, especially engineering, used to be fun, but the benefits are being systematically removed.

Hmm. I guess a lot will depend on how tough these Horrific Vision's are, but it sounds like a weird version of the Mage Tower from Legion with progressive rewards. Not sure how I feel about it. It's literally a grind within a grind (Grind Coalescing Visions, to grind attempts at upgrading your cloak) with at least a moderate chance of failing to get the upgrade altogether. It also reminds me of the Lei Shen Treasure runs in MoP, except whereas those were for fun and gold, these are inextricably tied to character progression.

Speaking as someone who mostly plays Retail now just to make gold, I was already burned out on progression grinds. I haven't set foot inside a BfA dungeon or raid zone in months and instead I invested time into 3 alts which will now have to basically get benched as I spend all my time on my main farming for Cloak upgrades. Just not sure I have the energy to be that frenetic. Either way I'm sure I will give it a shot, but I ended up skipping most of 5.3 in MoP when there was a similar kind of Cloak grind. We will have to see how it turns out, but as of right now it's starting to feel more like a Diablo 3 style of repetitive grind with scaling difficulty. Horrific Visions just sound like another name for Nephalim Rifts with a different combat system. That's not what should be at the heart of WoW IMO.

Ok am I the only one who said, "What the hell? We already had a Legendary Cloak" and it was taken from us just as the ring we built and the weapons of the last expansion. Anyone getting sick and tired of working their rear off to build this great thing only to have it ripped from us and replaced with some greens with the next expansion? Come on Bliz, at least you could have had us go and recover our old cloak and move forward with it since that would make more sense!

Does anyone know if the Sanity loss reduction on the cloak affect the sanity attacks the mobs do or does it only reduce the passive sanity loss in each zone that ticks every second?

So I got screwed by an amazing bug which sadly depleted 3x a horrific vision for me. Can someone tell me how bad this is and how long I need extra to catch up?

Is this correct that it changes appearance at rank 5, or is that a typo and it changes at rank 6? It would make more sense for it to change at 6 since that's when the ability unlocks and I'm at rank 5 with no change.

Tips for all my fellow engineers out there:

- do all the Garrison Missions that grant Garrison Resources
- get a Trading Post in your garrison and buy all mats for the Goblin Glider Kit (True Iron Ore and Sumptuous Fur)
- create your very own Goblin Glider Kit and fly like a bird
- don't forget to put your Goblin Glider back on when Shadowlands arrives and we get a new cloak

We didn't need another mandatory grind in order to keep up. And yes, it is mandatory to keep up meaning you cannot take a few days off without falling behind. See you all next expac.

Question(s):
If from ranks 7-11 you need those torn pages from "Fear and Flesh"...
Do you get 1 page from each bonus boss you kill in the corrupted and lost areas? So if I killed a Lost boss, and a corrupted boss I'd get 2 pages? Or if I killed both corrupted bosses would I get 2 pages? Or if I killed both Lost bosses would I get 2 pages?
And then if that's the case... doesn't it mean I could get a maximum of 4 pages each run if I clear all 4 of the bonus bosses from both the corrupted and lost areas?
And if that's the case... doesn't that mean I could get rank 9 with a minimum of 1 run (since you need 4 pages) if I manage to do a full clear? (your chart says you need 2 runs minimum)
And if that's the case.... doesn't that mean I could get rank 11 with a minimum of 2 runs (since you need 8 pages) if I manage to do 2 full clears? (your chart says you need 3 runs minimum)

My overall question is what objectives drop the pages and how many pages are dropped per objective's chest?

I've been looking for clear answers but nothing is saying "if you want rank 7, you need to clear these objectives...." (like do I need to clear 1 corrupted area and the main boss (Ex: Thrall)? Or do I need to clear 2 corrupted areas and ignore the boss because it will only give me momentos?

Help to clarify please!

P.S. What do I need to clear so I can get that book for rank 6... I'm guessing it's 1 corrupted area and the main boss... I'm not finding clear answers on forums.

My math might be wrong but in step 1 it says that if you do the Major Assault (10k), both Minor Assaults (11k), and the mini-vision every day (8k) you'll get 3 Horrific Vision tokens. But if you look at the rewards stated for those events, that only adds up to... 29, 000 Coalescing Visions?

That's still 1000 short of getting a 3rd token. Am I missing something?

ou do not need to kill Thrall of Alleria, so the punishment for failure is lessened and you can explore more, as long as you complete at least 2 zones per run

Are we 100% sure of this ? can we finish the vision doing just the secondary objectives ? whitout killing thrall/alleria at the end?

I am extremely amused by the sane replies explaining why goblin glider can't be used being downvoted and the "sky is falling" comments are upvoted. An item can't have two on-use effects. It's as simple as that. As an engineer with 150 bag slots, one more used for goblin gliders for the next 8-10 months isn't going to break the game.

For those confused how to activate the Corrupting Core and use it boost your cloak:

open your character screen and inventory
right click on the Corrupting Core in your inventory
left click the Cloak on your character window
wait a few seconds for a channeling bar to finish

This guide kinda needs a slight rework, as the amount of Coalescing Visions gathered with Dailies has changed drastically. You get 3000 + 1500*6 for the lesser vision each week for 12000 and each Daily gives 250, so with 7 dailies and 7 days you get another 12250 on top of that, giving you overall 35250 Coalescing and another Vessel. So that's 4.5 run per week, which kinda changes things drastically.

Also if you want to get Rank 15 as soon as possible, better get your strategie set soon, because those 15 runs you have to do in two weeks will require a bit of preparation in the form of keeping chests and vessels and coalescing visions from the prior weeks.

After the recent improvement to daily quest rewards, it is now possible to earn a minimum of 5.44 Vessels per week.

6500*2 = 13000
3000+(1500*6) = 12000
((325*7)*7)+(325*3) = 16900

If you don't have the time, or have no need for the reputation gains, you can easily disregard the non-Vision daily quests and still earn 3.75 Vessel of Horrific Visions per week.

Edit 2: The Coalescing Visions currency limit is gone! No change to the major assault reward, other than being friendlier to your inventory space.

"How to Obtain the Legendary Cloak". Note that for a fresh 120 you first need to unlock Naz'jatar and neck essences, up to and including Harnessing the Power. This will also take your neck up to level 50, include one 385 piece of Benthic azerite armor and give you a 370 iLevel weapon.

This starts with the quest The Wolf's Offensive / The Warchief's Order to visit Genn/Nathanos. You might have to re-log or exit & re-enter the main town (Boralus/Dazar'alor) in order to get this quest to pop.

I am sure most of you reading this post already know the information, but for those players who don't, I just wanted to give a quick update.

First, since the cloak was launched everything has been increased regarding the legendary cloak power with Blizzard continually increasing the caps on all currencies we need for cloak leveling. This includes the ability for players to carry more vessels (used to access horrific visions; 1 used per visit), an unlimited coalescing visions cap, increased currencies from all invasion content including dailies, mini, bi-weekly, and weekly invasions, and most recently the ability to raise corrupted resistance after the cloak has reached max level. Blizzard has even changed the chance of receiving a corrupted piece of loot from the first weekly completion of a horrific vision to 100%.

Also, the best way to stay current with the latest changes in the game is to check out the top of Wowhead's main page in the latest news section on a regular basis. Err....sorry, I sound like someone being compensated for advertising the site, but I assure you guys that I am just a long time player who really appreciates the help I have received from it. The Wowhead website with our wonderful player community has just been extremely helpful to me by saving allot of time and effort with completing in game objectives.

This guide should have the The 8.3 Cloak Quest Line from Patch 8.3 for Alts linked here. The other guide notes where skips are in the cloak questline. I had read through it before, but it took a little digging to find the for-alts version, whereas this guide was super easy to find.

The update regarding the Legendary Cloak upgrade, IS NOT LIVE. I have rank 9 and the quest requires 6 pages. If it is only on NA, then say so. If it is false entirely, fix the post.

I'm totally confused on the number of runs this guide says it takes to finish the quest. ONE for every quest? No way if you need 4 pages but can only carry or obtain 2 per run, how does that calculate? Will someone please explain this to me! I've not seen this to be even possible on the low level ones that require you to do the side zones at all.

Mother now sells one Malefic Core a week (you can only buy one, but it doesn't disappear from her store) for 2,000 Echoes of Ny'alotha. I don't know if you can get three total or not as I am currently unable to test it by completing the Normal and up Ny'alotha.

Update. Yes, you can get all 3. Just got one from HC Raid, Vision and Shop.

Is 125 Corruption Resistance the the Final Cap>? I was able to buy a Malefic Core from Mother but when I attempt to apply it to my cape this week I was told I cannot.

Is the cloak still required for the last two bosses of Ny'alotha in 9.0.1 Shadowlands pre-patch? I mean, it still should be because of the boss abilities, but the tooltip now lacks any corruption or sanity drain resistances.

Also, is the raid overall easier or harder in the pre-patch?

Is anyone else experiencing a bug where Voidborn Core gives an error message? Attempting to upgrade my Rank 12 cloak gives the message "That item can not be modified".

As of Dragonflight, there may be a hiccup in acquisition- the nazjatar campaign for horde leads to a dead end. For some reason there is a new way to start the nzoth patch quest, a letter on the war campaign ship will give the quest that makes valeera spawn, this was the case on my evoker
