Summary

Welcome to Ardenweald
You journey to Ardenweald, where you meet Lady Moonberry and ask for her help in gaining an audience with the Winter Queen. It won't be easy - with the state that Ardenweald is in, the Winter Queen is kept constantly busy, but Lady Moonberry agrees to help you if you assist her with her duties. You fight off Spriggans, rescue souls, and charm a nesting valeshrieker into giving up the wildseed it took for its own egg. In the grove of Tirna Vaal, Moonberry tells you the good news. The Winter Queen is on her way to bless the grove.

Aiding Tirna Vaal
The Winter Queen is arriving in Tirna Vaal soon, but before she does, you need to help get the grove ready. You head over to Spirit Glen, where you help Choofa rescue his friends Rury, Awool, and Slanknen from attacking Spriggans, and help recover anima stolen by the creatures. You also visit the Tranquil Pools where you help Dreamweaver protect and restore wildseeds, and search for their missing caretakers, who you soon discover have been eaten by plants. Rescuing the Wildseed Tenders is a simple case of cutting open the carnivorous plants, and soon, the Tranquil Pools are restored to order. To thank you, Dreamweaver invites you to witness a wildseed being infused with anima. The wildseed chosen turns out to be quite unique. It struggles with nightmares so strong, they don't go away even after being soothed with anima. However, it also bonds with you - an unusual and joyous thing. Dreamweaver names the spirit within the wildseed the Dreamer, and wonders what your bond will mean.

Waning Grove
As Lady Moonberry gives you a gift for all your help, she spots refugees fleeing from Heartwood Grove. It must be under attack. You rush over to investigate, and meet a shaken Niya, who explains that strange masks started appearing on her friends. Before long, almost everyone had them on, and the masks seemed to be possessing them, driving them to attack and steal anima from the grove. While you are able to rescue some survivors, it's too late for most, and even the Heart of the Grove is taken and drained completely of its anima. You return to Tirna Vaal, just in time for the Winter Queen's visit, but she's too busy to stop and wait, and you do not get to speak with her.

Glitterfall Heights
Clearly, if you want any hope of getting an audience with the Winter Queen, you will need to ease her burden so that she isn't so busy. You begin by reporting to Hunt-Captain Korayn of the Wild Hunt, who needs help against strange blighted creatures in Glitterfall Basin - who you recognize as Drust. You help her locate her missing hunters - all of whom have been killed except for Ara'lon and Lumera, and you fight the creatures, who seem to be equipped with Fae weapons. Finally you confront Lorkron the Hunter, who was once Korayn's friend, but who seems to have become corrupted beyond help. It seems the Drusts are using the masks seen in Heartwood Grove to possess the Night Fae and join them to their forces. Lorkron escapes and Korayn chases after him, while you return to Tirna Vaal - which has fallen into chaos. It turns out the wildseed you bonded with has become distressed, so much so that its nightmares are spilling out and attacking. You help destroy the nightmares and soothe the distressed Wildseed, which calms things... for now.

This is the Way
The young Wildseed needs to be taken to Hibernal Hollow, where Droman Aliothe may be able to help calm its nightmares once and for all. On your journey, you meet Ara'lon and the Wild Hunt, who are fighting against the Drust in Soryn's Meadow. You help turn the tide of the battle, and in gratitude, they escort you to Hibernal Hollow. Aliothe agrees to help, and you perform a ritual on the young Wildseed. Unfortunately, it fails as you don't have enough anima.

The Fallen Tree
Ara'lon knows where more anima can be found: His old grove, Tirna Noch. The Drust have been stockpiling all the anima they've stolen there - for what purpose he doesn't know. You venture into the grove and follow the anima trail until you find the Heart of Tirna Noch. Though it's protected, you manage to obtain it, and Lady Moonberry flies you out just in time to escape the entire Drust army.

Visions of the Dreamer
The Heart of Tirna Noch contains so much anima, it immediately attracts the attention of the Drust, and they begin to attack. In between fending them off, you perform the ritual to awaken the Dreamer's Wildseed, confronting and soothing her nightmares once and for all. You recognize many characters from her dreams, such as Deathwing and Tyrande Whisperwind, and it soon becomes clear the spirit within the wildseed is none other than Ysera herself. Finally, you help her confront her most terrible memories - her corruption and death. You witness these nightmares first hand, as does everyone around you. This completes the ritual, and the Wildseed is, at long last, soothed of her nightmares.

Awaken the Dreamer
Ysera's dream ignites the Drust invasion, and soon they're attacking in full force. With the Wild Hunt's help, you are able to defend Hibernal Hollow and defeat Lorkron the Hunter, who is leading the Drust forces. Sadly, the Dreamer's Wildseed is fatally wounded in the battle. Ysera's only hope is the Winter Queen and you rush the wildseed to her. She is able to awaken and save Ysera, though the leader of the Green Dragonflight is bound to Ardenweald as a result, and can never return to Azeroth. At long last, you have your audience with the Winter Queen, and you deliver the Primus's message. She is deeply troubled at the news, and shows you the Heart of the Forest, which is withering. While once its power was used to help keep the Jailer bound to The Maw, the anima drought has weakened it so much, all the anima in Ardenweald cannot save it - though the Winter Queen has made many sacrifices to try. She needs help, and asks you to bring a message to Sire Denathrius in Revendreth. As a master at anima extraction, he may be able to find a way to save the Heart of the Forest.

Tal-InaraWinter QueenArdenwealdJourney to ArdenwealdThe warning you received from the Primus needs to reach the Winter Queen of Ardenweald, <name>. The Eternal Ones must stand together against the coming darkness.

The Winter Queen oversees the cycle between Death and Life. In her forest slumber ancient spirits of nature that must be reborn.

I fear the anima drought will have taken an especially grim toll upon her realm.

The night fae can lead you to the Queen. Bring her this message, and she will know what needs to be done.ArdenwealdLady MoonberryFeatherlight

Lady Moonberry says: This will be a prank to remember! Just--oh! Hello there!

Lady Moonberry

We haven't seen anyone come through the gateway in a very long time! Certainly not someone like you.

What brings you to Ardenweald?Night LilyI Moustache You to Lend a Hand

Lady Moonberry

A message from the Primus of Maldraxxus you say? We haven't heard from him in... Well, it's been a long time.

This isn't a prank, is it? The Queen doesn't have time for pranks. But I do!

<Moonberry leans in close and whispers to you.>

And for this one, I think we need one more lily.

<Moonberry winks.>

Let me take a look at this message. You bring that last night lily to Featherlight, and then we'll talk.

Lady Moonberry says: The message is magically sealed? Well, that's no fun...
Lady Moonberry says: Featherlight, you place the lily. This stupid seal just won't open!

Zayhad, The Builder

Lady Moonberry yells: Zayhad! Wake up!
Zayhad, The Builder says: My slumber... recedes...
Zayhad, The Builder says: A beard, a hat... gifts of time and... mirth of fae.
Zayhad, The Builder says: The forest sighs in laughter. You bring joy, Lady Moonberry.
Lady Moonberry says: I try, old friend. Maybe you can help the forest grow again soon!

Lady Moonberry says: This way, come along.
Lady Moonberry says: Sadly, the Queen cannot grant you an audience. Her spirit is spread thin across Ardenweald.
Lady Moonberry says: This drought threatens the entire forest. Your voice is but one bird singing in the night.
Lady Moonberry says: The Queen's magic protects every branch, every leaf. If not for her vigilance, all might be lost.
Lady Moonberry says: For now, we night fae must act in her stead.

Tanor

Tanor says: Help! Help me!
Lurking Spriggan yells: Someone wants a stabbing!
Lady Moonberry yells: I warned you not to come back!
Lady Moonberry says: Ugh. Spriggans.
Lady Moonberry says: Sorry! I had to make a quick stop on the way.

Lady Moonberry

I hope that your arrival in Ardenweald is a sign that better times are on the horizon.Mothbane the MightyFirst on the Agenda

Lady Moonberry

Let's make a deal, <name>. I'll seek out the Winter Queen on your behalf if you complete a few of my duties in my stead. The Queen isn't the only one who's been kept busy by the drought!

First, you're going to help my fellow fae here with their spriggan problem. Boot their leader off that poor moth! Featherlight will tell you where to go after that.

We'll reunite in Tirna Vaal if you survive.

Oh, and I would stay on the path if I were you. Ardenweald can be dangerous for the unwary!

Lady Moonberry says: Featherlight will guide you from here. Help the forest as you head for Tirna Vaal!

If you can handle the spriggans then perhaps I can give you some of the more interesting items on Lady Moonberry's agenda. Excellent!KorenthWildseed Rescue<Featherlight checks his notes.>

Let's see... There was a request for help regarding an imperiled wildseed and... something about an egg? The original note wasn't entirely clear, but the fae who sent it was... Ah! It was Korenth. Again.

Well, I suppose we'll find out what his trouble is soon enough!

I'll fly ahead and look for him. Stick to the path.

Featherlight says: Korenth is always getting into trouble. Let's see what it is this time.
Korenth says: Featherlight! Over here!

Nesting Valeshrieker

I was supposed to take care of them... but they were taken!

I'm standing in for Lady Moonberry. What happened?

There is so little anima, and I've had to say goodbye to so many slumbering spirits; friends I've looked after for ages.

But Elder Dunmira is so close to her time of awakening, I couldn't say goodbye like that!

I moved her wildseed to a spot where I thought she could get a little more anima to make it through, and then that terrible creature stole it! I think the bird is trying to incubate it like an egg.

What's a wildseed?

They're the purpose of Ardenweald! Wildseeds contain slumbering nature spirits like Elder Dunmira. Who is under that bird. If you could coax it off the nest for me, I could sneak in and grab her!

I'm glad Moonberry was able to send someone if she couldn't come herself. You know she normally wants a song and dance for her help?

<Korenth chuckles.>

So you'll help me get that bird off the nest?

<Korenth smiles hopefully.>

<Request a song and dance, as Moonberry would have done.>

Korenth says: Well... if you insist...
Featherlight laughs.
Korenth says: Lady Moonberry... is the finest faerie... is this really necessary?

"Valeshrieker"

Korenth whispers: Try to coax the bird away from the nest!
Korenth says: Keep it up! I'll just sneak past...
A twig snaps loudly under Korenth's hoof!
The valeshrieker notices Korenth.
Korenth says: Uh oh... umm... hello?
Featherlight yells: Run, Korenth!

That was fun to watch! You had that bird ready to build a nest and raise hatchlings!

Oh, how I needed that laugh...List of wildseedsDroman KrelnorWe Can't Save Them AllI am surprised--but pleased--that you weren't torn to pieces! Well done.

But now... I fear we have a far more serious task to complete.

The Winter Queen has decreed that Heartwood Grove's anima is to be reclaimed, and its denizens must leave it to wither. Not all of their wildseeds will go with them. In fact, only a few have been chosen to be saved.

We are to bring the final list to Droman Krelnor.

Elder Dunmira
Ashamane
Nyga'Thella

Featherlight says: Follow me. Heartwood Grove isn't far.
Featherlight says: Each wildseed holds a spirit of nature who will one day awaken and return to their world.
Featherlight says: The Queen must decide which ones survive... and which wither away, the spirit within lost forever.
Featherlight says: It's... a grim task. But until the drought ends, it has to be done.
Droman Krelnor says: Look for refuge elsewhere, friend. This grove will soon be gone.

Droman Krelnor

<Droman Krelnor sighs wearily as he reads the short list of wildseeds.>

At least a few will be relocated to Tirna Vaal.Droman KrelnorTe'zan

Who am I? I'm a soul!

When my time came, I was called to Ardenweald. I worked with spirits all my life, so it felt only... well, natural.

How do you like my soul shape form? I always wanted to run around as a wolf ALL the time!

Wagonmaster DerawynSouls of the ForestIf you're standing in for Lady Moonberry, then maybe you can help!

Wagonmaster Derawyn was escorting a bunch of us to a new grove when we were attacked by a pack of hungry predators! The wolf be a fast soulshape, so I got away... but some of the little ones weren't so lucky. They're being hunted like prey!

Come on! They're just down the road!

Te'zan says: This way! We were attacked by starving wildlife. There are souls in danger!
Niya says: I swore an oath to care for those wildseeds! We can't just abandon them!
Wagonmaster Derawyn says: Te'zan! You found help!

Choofa

Nature Soul says: Thank you, thank you!
Choofa says: Safe, safe! Here on your head.
Wagonmaster Derawyn says: Night embrace you. We're in your debt!

It's been a while since a new soul arrived in Ardenweald, so each one already here is precious to us.

I'll be sure to let Lady Moonberry know of your heroic rescue efforts on her behalf. She might even decide she owes you a favor!Keep to the PathThat's everything on the list for this part of the forest. Lady Moonberry said to meet her in Tirna Vaal. It's just down the road; I'm going to fly ahead so everyone knows to expect you.

Just stay on the path and you won't be eaten. Probably. See you soon!

Featherlight says: Stay on the road to reach Tirna Vaal. I'll see you there!

Nelwyn

Nelwyn sobs.
Nelwyn says: Help! Won't anyone please help me?

My granny is so sick!

We were trying to go to Tirna Vaal. We were hoping the Droman could help us, but she's so weak and the forest is so dangerous!

Please, would you help me? My granny is hiding in a cave nearby. She's so sick...

I'm going that way too. I'll help.

Nelwyn says: Oh, thank you, stranger! It's so hard to find someone you can trust.

"Granny"

<This Sylvar is unnaturally pale and is barely breathing... She might be dead already.

You blink and one eye is wide open, staring at you.

The mouth stretches open into a gaping maw.>

My, what big teeth you have Granny.

<Nelwyn smirks at you.>

Hey! What's the big idea?

Nelwyn says: Now we play for real!
Mire Trickster says: You should have stuck to the road!

Featherlight says: Hurry, now! Everything must be perfect for the queen!
Lady Moonberry says: Hello again! I have good news!

Who are you? WHAT are you?

I am tirnenn. I am of the forest, kin to the trees.

When the Winter Queen stretched out her hand and created Ardenweald, we were among the first to grow. We dug our roots deep and lifted walls high. We built the groves.

The tirnenn serve, until the immeasurable breadth of time is spent, and we return to the cycle.

Droman Tashmur

Animals of the forest, mortal souls given form, frolic in the glen. Their anima, a boon to the weald, given freely as rain on the leaves.

Rescue them.DreamweaverDreamweaver

Droman Tashmur

Troubled winds sweep across Tirna Vaal. The boughs tremble in concern over the Queen's arrival. All must be as it should be.

Dreamweaver's wings droop with the weight of worry. Chaos swirls around the wildseeds under his care.

Calm the churning waters of the grove. Bring harmony to discord and let Dreamweaver flutter once more.

Featherlight says: We have a lot to do before the queen arrives. No time to waste!

What's this? What's this?

The Tall Tree has sent you to help us? Help us!

Choofa says: Help! Spriggans stole our anima! They took my friends!

They Need to Calm DownSpriggans! Nasty spriggans. They came to the grove. They messed it all up!

They took the anima from the soul webs! We were collecting it, yes. Collecting it for the Tall Tree and their grove. The spriggans have to pay!

Beat them up! Then use this soulweb to take back the anima. We need it! They don't!Nothing Left to GiveOh no, oh no!

My friends, they gave so much. So much of their anima, they lost their forms! We all take a form when we come here, you see. Something that suits us!

But we give our anima, we give! To help the groves. And we give so much, that sometimes it's too much.

I still have some anima. I still have my form! Get me to my friends! We can get THEIR forms back!

Choofa says: We must save them! Hurry!

Stolen! They stole the anima! They ran like crazy and...

Wait that's normal. They're always that bad. Stupid spriggans!Slanknen

Oh dearie me. I seem to be rather far away from where I'm supposed to be.

I am so tired. If only I could lay my head down and rest...

Let's get you out of here.

Slanknen says: Now what sort of spirit are you?
Choofa says: They're not a spirit, Slanknen!

Rury

I was doing just fine, having a little nap. What's the big fuss?

The fuss is, it's time to leave.

Rury says: What an odd creature you are.
Choofa says: They're helping us, Rury!

Awool

I've got this! I've got this! No, I don't got this.

It's fine, you can leave with me now.

Choofa says: Awool! You're okay!
Awool says: I can fly again! Thank you, Choofa!

You found them! You found my friends! They have their forms!

Now we have one last thing to do. One last thing!Mizik the HaughtyMizik the HaughtyBad spriggans! Bad! They take our anima. We lose our forms! And one is worst of all.

Mizik! He tells the others what to do. And he rides a gorm! Big, nasty gorm!

Get him. Get him!

Choofa says: Get him, get him! The one that rides the gorm!
Mizik the Haughty says: I'll take all of your anima!
Mizik the Haughty says: But... the Ancient One... promised...
Choofa says: It's done! It's done! Meet you outside the glen.

Lore Spotlight: The Ancient One

As he dies, the Spriggan leader Mizik mentions something about a promise from "the Ancient one". You may also loot Orders from the Ancient One, which reads, "Sow havoc. Reap chaos. He will take his place as the one true God of Death."

These orders are in fact from Mueh'zala, the former Loa of Death. Night Fae players will later learn Mueh'zala has made a deal with the Jailer, and is stealing souls from Ardenweald on his orders. All players can help put a stop to Mueh'zala's plans in De Other Side, Ardenweald's max-level dungeon.

Gone! The bad spriggan is gone! Spirit Glen will be ours again.

Now to leave. We have to leave.Souls Come HomeTo the tree, to the tree! It is time for us to return to the grove.

We have our anima. We have our forms. The Tall Tree needs the anima. The Tall Tree will be happy!

I will see you there!

Choofa says: To the tree, to the tree! We'll all be safe at the tree.

Droman Tashmur

From acorns grow forests, from souls comes vital anima. Small though they be, on them our fates depend.

The forest sighs in gratitude.

Dreamweaver says: No, no... this won't please the queen at all...

You're new, aren't you? Not a fae, not a soul, nor are you bound for a wildseed.

And the droman sent you here to help me? Well, this just got very interesting.Shooing WildlifeThings are chaotic here in the Tranquil Pools. I'd be devastated if the Winter Queen saw this.

This is meant to be a peaceful place where we give anima to wildseeds.

But with the current drought, starving beasts have encroached on the pools and are trying to feed on the anima themselves.

Sadly, we need to put them down... or else they may endanger the spirits within the wildseeds.Tending to WildseedsWe infuse wildseeds with anima from the animacones we collect in the surrounding area.

But the caretakers are missing, and we have wildseeds in need of an anima infusion.

This is an absolute mess that must be corrected before the Winter Queen arrives!

I've already gathered a basket of animacones. Can you use them to infuse a few of the wildseeds?

I'll show you how it's done, but then I have to look for the missing caretakers.

Dreamweaver says: Thank you, friend! These pools are anything but tranquil lately...
Dreamweaver says: Wildseeds need caretakers to give them anima. Without it, the spirits inside can't be reborn.
Dreamweaver says: Since the drought started, there hasn't been enough anima to go around. We've had to make some... hard choices.
Dreamweaver says: Good, you finish up here. I'll look for the missing caretakers.

Normally, I wouldn't require help from whatever race you are.

Ah... my apologies. That was rude.

Please understand that Ardenweald is home to souls from across all of the mortal realm. It's hard for me to keep track of every race that arrives here.

Fine work. We mustn't stop tending to the wildseeds that the Winter Queen has chosen to be saved.

Now, perhaps you can lend me a hand with another matter.Wildseed Tender

Dreamweaver says: The plants ate them? Not again...

DreamweaverBelly Full of FaeThe local flora have gone somewhat wild during this anima drought.

It seems they swallowed most of the young fae who were tending to the wildseeds here.

At least now we know where they've been.

Oh, don't worry. This isn't the first time this has happened. We can last quite a while inside those plants.

Take my dagger. Use it to cut through the shrubbery and free the other wildseed tenders.Gobbling BlossomAnimaconeHungry for AnimaconesI have to apologize for the state of the Tranquil Pools. Normally, it's quite peaceful here.

The wildseed tenders tell me that the plants you see walking around have eaten all the animacones intended for use in Tirna Vaal.

Could you rip the animacones out of those plants?

We have wildseeds that are in need of that anima.

Dreamweaver says: Use my dagger to open the plants and free the others. We'll meet you in Tirna Vaal.
Dreamweaver says: Oh, and thank you again! Whatever world you're from, they're lucky to have you.

Great work. This should help get the Tranquil Pools back to normal.

I admit, I had thought the worst when I couldn't find any of the tenders. I'm glad they were only eaten by the local vegetation.

The animacones! In this time of drought, we have to scrounge for every bit of anima we can get. Thank you.

Dreamweaver says: We've all been eaten by plants before. It happens.

One Special SpiritYou've been a huge help to Tirna Vaal. I need to bring this anima to one of our newest wildseeds.

I'd love for you to come with me. It's only fair, since you're the one who recovered the animacones.

I'm quite excited for you! Let's go.

Dreamweaver says: Come, we'll show you how to care for a wildseed and watch its spirit dream.
Dreamweaver says: Let's start with a younger one. It arrived just before the drought, and needs a little extra attention.
Droman Tashmur says: The wind lifts your wings once more, Dreamweaver.
Dreamweaver says: All thanks to our helpful new friend!

Young Wildseed

Isn't this a great little wildseed? It will be many years before it returns to its plane.

Go on, take the animacones you found and infuse it with anima.

I'll take the animacones and infuse this wildseed with their anima.

Dreamweaver says: Uh oh... a nightmare is afflicting the spirit inside this wildseed. Poor thing must have met a violent end...
Dreamweaver says: A touch of anima should soothe it. Once its dreams have calmed, we can--
Dreamweaver says: Wait... the spirit is... bonding with you! This hasn't happened since... well, since I can remember!
Dreamweaver says: We should tell the droman. A wildseed bonding with its caretaker is a rare and joyous occasion!
Dreamweaver says: Hmm, this isn't good... the spirit's nightmare still lingers. Whatever could have happened to it?

Tell me about the spirit in the wildseed.

Within this wildseed rests a powerful agent of nature. When they died, their spirit was brought directly to Ardenweald.

It is our honor to care for them as they dream and prepare for rebirth on their world.

The interesting thing is, though... they seem to know you. Isn't that something?

Droman Tashmur

Starlight shines within Dreamweaver, radiant and serene.

And... two rivers meet in a lush delta. A wildseed and a mortal, both new to the forest. Bonded by spirit and by fate.

Long has it been since the boughs beheld such an event. The weald will be watching.Waning Grove

Tirna Vaal is ready for the Winter Queen's arrival! And it's all thanks to you.

You have more than upheld your end of our bargain... and yet I was not able to do the same.

That is absolutely unacceptable for a faerie like me! What would the others think if they knew I had failed to honor our agreement?

Please, allow me to make it up to you. I may not have been able to deliver your message to the Queen, but I have a special surprise that I hope you'll accept instead!

Lady Moonberry says: A faerie must always repay a favor. You've done much for the forest, but I couldn't deliver your message in return.
Lady Moonberry says: Please accept this gift instead. A small part of Ardenweald's magic, yours to use as you wish.
Lady Moonberry says: There! Now that we're even--wait, what's that?
Lady Moonberry says: Look! All those fae running from Heartwood Grove... Something's wrong!
Lady Moonberry says: I'll alert the Wild Hunt. It looks like we need your help again!

Niya says: These masked fae suddenly attacked the grove. Please, we have to drive them back!

We can't leave Heartwood Grove like this. The End of Former FriendsHeartwood Grove was to give up its anima so that other groves could survive.

But then... I started seeing these masks on many of the other fae. Soon, everyone was wearing them.

They aren't the friends I once knew. Not anymore.Drained WildseedRecovering WildseedsOne of my tasks in Heartwood Grove was to tend to the wildseeds.

Some were chosen to be brought back to Tirna Vaal. But now the masked fae are draining the anima from them!

We need to save the ones that remain. I beg of you, recover any surviving wildseeds you can find.

The spirits within them were chosen to be reborn. I won't let them wither away!KorenthHeart of the GroveWe were supposed to take the heart of the grove to Tirna Vaal when we left this place to wither.

The masked fae struck before that could happen. They must be after the heart of the grove!

The heart contains all of the anima that was meant to save the other groves. We can't afford to lose it.

Can you secure it? I need to find Korenth, one of our healers. His skills will help any survivors we find.

Niya says: I'll look for survivors. Meet me further into the grove.

Korenth says: He took... the heart...
Korenth says: Krelnor... masked... Shrouded Mire...

Thank you. I tried so hard to save them... but once that mask is on, there is no return.

You found more wildseeds! They're so weak... I can't stand to see them like this.

We need to finish this and bring them to Tirna Vaal as soon as possible.

Korenth is... gone? And the heart of the grove has been taken?

Then... then we have much to do.

Niya says: Korenth... we'll take back the heart of the grove. I swear it.

Droman KrelnorDrained WildseedAnimaconeRecovering the AnimaconesThe grove's droman is wearing one of the masks. I fear he's going to drain all of the anima from the grove's heart!

That anima is meant for the forest's other groves. If we lose it... then Heartwood Grove would have been lost for nothing...

We'll carve a path to the Shrouded Mire to find the droman before it's too late.

Many of these masked fae have stolen Heartwood Grove's animacones. We must recover them along the way.

In this drought, every bit of anima is precious.Survivors of Heartwood GroveKorenth... I can't believe he's...

Wagonmaster Derawyn says: So... dark...
Wagonmaster Derawyn says: It's... too late... for me...

Derawyn... I can't lose her too! We can use the animacones to save her!The Sacrifices We Must MakeHurry! We can use the animacones we gathered to save Derawyn.

I know they're intended for the wildseeds... but we can't let these monsters take anyone else from us.

Wagonmaster Derawyn says: No... the anima... is for the wildseeds...
Niya says: Korenth is gone. I can't lose you too!
Wagonmaster Derawyn says: The cycle... goes on... and so... must you...
Niya says: Derawyn... no! Those monsters will pay for this!

Recovering the Heart

Warden Casad

Darkness grasps the heart of Droman Krelnor, as he grasps the heart of the grove.

Anima drains from the heart, nectar taken from ripened fruit. It must be stopped.

Foul magic bars the way. Anima in peril, anima the salvation.

Beseech Te'zan. An old soul, brimming with anima, the spark to ignite our hope.

Te'zan says: You want my anima? Why can't the ancient tirnenn do it?
Warden Casad says: Darkness encroaches. Starlight shines in our defense.
Warden Casad says: Anima given shall return in time.
Te'zan says: Well, okay. But I better get some back later!
Te'zan says: There. Let's finish this!

Droman Krelnor says: Ardenweald will belong to the masters!
Niya says: You will take nothing more!
Droman Krelnor says: All shall bow! All shall wither!
Droman Krelnor says: Niya... I... am sorry...
Niya says: The heart of the grove! No!
Niya says: Without the heart's anima, so many wildseeds will starve...
Warden Casad says: Hope grows from seeds of ash. The cycle continues, always.
Warden Casad says: Our paths diverge in the twilit woods. Tirna Vaal beckons you home.

We've lost so much. Why would anyone do this?HeartlessSo many of my friends have returned to the cycle... all because of those strange masks.

Why did they take my friends? What was the point of destroying the heart of my grove?

You have to return to Tirna Vaal tell Droman Tashmur what happened here.

I'll make my way there eventually. I just... need some time to say goodbye.

Niya says: I'll catch up with you in Tirna Vaal. I... just need time to say goodbye.
Te'zan says: Are you sure it's safe? There are still a lot of masked fae around.
Niya says: I'll be fine, Te'zan. You go on ahead.
Te'zan says: Well... I better stay with you. For protection.
Niya says: Thank you.
Te'zan says: I've heard that Derawyn and Korenth were great at pranks. Is that true?
Niya says: Hah... well, one time with Dreamweaver...

You've done so much, but the Queen's focus is still divided across the forest.

If you want to deliver your message, then we need to help lessen her burden.

Let's start with the Wild Hunt. They are the protectors of Ardenweald, and dealing with the threat of the masked fae has stretched them thin.

Seek out Hunt-Captain Korayn at Glitterfall Basin. Last I heard, her hunting party could use reinforcements.

And don't let her ferocity put you off. She's quite nice as long as you're not her prey!

Lady Moonberry says: The Wild Hunt protects Ardenweald in the queen's name. Helping them might ease her burden!
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: Hail, mortal. Lady Moonberry speaks highly of you.

Who are you?

I am Hunt-Captain Korayn, of the Wild Hunt. I serve the Winter Queen and protect Ardenweald.

Know that my blade will swiftly end anyone, and anything, that threatens the forest.

No argument, no discussion.

Hunt-Captain Korayn

Lady Moonberry said she would be sending a strong hand to help secure this grove.

Now, how are you in a fight?ArdenwealdThe Missing Hunters

Hunt-Captain Korayn

Strange creatures have been seen lurking just outside the grove. Terrible, ugly things.

Whatever they might be, they are not native to Ardenweald.

It does not matter how they breached our borders, though. Every one of them must be eliminated.

I sent my best huntsmen and huntresses to slay them, but not one has returned. See if you can determine what has delayed them.Extreme Recycling

Hunt-Captain Korayn

The Wild Hunt serves the Winter Queen under the leadership of Lord Herne. We are elite fighters, hunters, and trackers.

But we cannot fight without weapons and supplies. The droman here informs me that there are severe obstacles to their delivery.

I do not have time to wait. We need equipment, and we need it now.

See what you can scavenge from the field. A broken weapon can always be mended and put to use again.

I serve Ardenweald.

Ara'lon's report matches what I have seen. Too many enemies, and too few of the Wild Hunt to dispose of them on our own.

Fortunately, I feel strongly inclined to take matters into my own hands. And avenge my fallen hunters.

Let us depart. We will show those monsters the fury of nature.

Hunt-Captain Korayn says: These vile creatures will know the fury of the Wild Hunt!

Lorkron the Hunter

Lorkron the Hunter says: Korayn... ever the cunning huntress.
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: I know that voice. But he fell in battle...
Lorkron the Hunter says: Know your prey. The first lesson you taught me. One you have forgotten.
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: Lorkron... what has become of you?
Lorkron the Hunter says: Do you not recognize your quarry? The blades they wield? The faces behind the masks?
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: The masked fae... this is the fate that awaits them?!
Lorkron the Hunter says: You sent us on a doomed hunt. Now you are the prey. And I know you well.
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: Enough, Lorkron! If you truly know me, then you should be afraid.

Hunt-Captain Korayn

If it was not clear before, it is now. This is a personal hunt.

We will rid Ardenweald of this monster.

We have slain so many, and yet more remain. We must get to the heart of this evil and tear it out.

If we don't, then soon it could spread all across Ardenweald.I Know Your Face

Hunt-Captain Korayn

This voice... I have heard it before. Though it is distorted and vengeful now.

He hunts us.

But I am not prey. And I will not let him gloat over his slain quarry. That is not the way of the Wild Hunt.

Though he may draw us to ground of his choosing, we will fight him.

And we will win. Are you with me?Blighted Monstrosity

Lorkron the Hunter yells: Your hunt ends here, Korayn!
Lorkron the Hunter says: I serve a new master! One who will watch Ardenweald wither!
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: Then you are a huntsman no longer.
Lorkron the Hunter yells: No! I will not fall to my prey again. Beware the shadows, Korayn...
Lorkron the Hunter makes his escape!

Who was that? What now?

Hunt-Captain Korayn says: A dear friend... twisted into a dire foe. He must be slain.
Hunt-Captain Korayn says: Return to Glitterfall Basin. My hunt has only just begun.

It cannot be easy for Korayn to hunt one of our own... but she is right. The forest is not safe so long as Lorkron lurks within it.

Droman Tashmur says: The storm abates... for now.

Droman Aliothe

Dreamweaver has told me much about your strange wildseed.

I will do what I can to help.

Dreamweaver says: Please, Aliothe. Help us end this spirit's nightmare!
Droman Aliothe says: Though our resources are stretched thin, I will do what I can.

Who are you?

I am Aliothe, Droman of the Hibernal Hollow. I protect the tree and all who live within these walls.

But before that, I lived on a beautiful world full of lush forests and sparkling seas. I was a god, a powerful spirit of the wilderness. My fur was full of stars and my teeth could crack mountains.

What happened?

I died.

Green fire rained from the heavens and burned our forests. Boiled our seas. I did all that I could, but it was not enough. My world died too.

By the Queen's grace I was reborn here in Ardenweald, and the spirits here in the hollow are my responsibility.

Don't you want to be reborn in your own world?

Even if I still had a home to return to, I could not. This is the way of things.

ProgloInfusing the Wildseed

Droman Aliothe

Dreamweaver tells me of a ritual to quell the wildseed's nightmares... but it will require anima.

A soul named Proglo lives beneath this tree, gathering anima for the grove's caretakers to use.

His mortal life came to a violent end, and his soul has been skittish ever since. He will not respond well to your current form.

I will grant you the ability to assume the soulshape of a fox. Approach Proglo in your new form to gain his trust and ask for his anima.

Droman Aliothe says: Accept this portion of my power, mortal. Use it to alter your shape into one that the soul below will find more... welcoming.
Dreamweaver says: We'll prepare the ritual!

AH! What are you? Four spriggans in a whatever you call yourself costume?

One of those blighted monstrosities?

Whatever you are just... just go away! Please?

ArdenwealdArdenweald

Greetings! Are you here for the anima? Proglo has been making sure to keep it stored for any wildseeds that may need it.

Those nasty spriggans and blighted creatures won't get their hands on this!

Proglo is one of the bravest souls in Ardenweald. Nothing gets by him!

Droman Aliothe says you were storing anima that we could use to help a wildseed.

Of course! Proglo has saved this anima to use just for an event like this.

Here you go. Take care, and if you need anything remember that Proglo is one of the bravest souls in Ardenweald!

Thank you Proglo. I'll use this anima to help the wildseed.

Dreamweaver says: Let's hope this is enough...
Niya says: Did it work?
Dreamweaver says: No... the nightmares still linger. We need more anima.
Ara'lon says: I may know where we can acquire more.

Many of the masked fae have been collecting anima for some unknown purpose. I propose we take it back from them.

The Wild Hunt has tracked them to Tirna Noch... my former grove.

Long has it been since I walked beneath its boughs. Not since it was left to wither so that other groves might survive.

I remember it well...

Lore Spotlight: Ara'lon

While his grove withered around him, Ara'lon worked to keep one special wildseed alive with anima, until the Winter Queen arrived with news that his grove would have to be sacrificed of it's anima for Ardenweald. However, she gave Ara'lon the choice. He ultimately decided to sacrifice the wildseed - which contained the soul of the Wild God Ursoc, for the sake of saving his home. You can watch it below and read more about it in our Afterlives: Ardenweald Cinematic Analysis.

But why? Why are they gathering anima and bringing it all to one place?

And how did they enter Ardenweald?

Nothing can be done for Tirna Noch. But it wounds me to see it crawling with foes of the forest.

We need a great deal of anima. The masked fae must be keeping a stockpile somewhere within the grove--we just need to find it.

They likely used soulwebs to collect and move the anima. If I examine them, I should be able to pick up the trail.NiyaStolen MementoMementosAt Heartwood Grove, I heard tales about the fall of Tirna Noch. I never thought that I would see it with my own eyes.

It brings me great sadness. And I wonder... if this is the fate that awaits my old grove as well.

I can't believe that everything that was once here is truly gone.

Perhaps there are still some mementos that can be recovered. Something to remember the fallen.

Ara'lon says: The anima is somewhere nearby. We must continue our search.
Niya says: Will this be the fate of my grove as well?
Ara'lon says: We are getting closer. Where could the Drust be hiding so much anima?
Niya says: They must be gathering it for some dark purpose...
Ara'lon says: The Drust must be storing the anima in the heart of the grove. But it withered so long ago...
Niya says: Perhaps the decaying groves are what drew them to Ardenweald.

This anima will help Dreamweaver complete his ritual... and perhaps save spirits who otherwise would have been lost.

Good work.

The Drust have stolen more anima than I expected. To think that they have deprived us of this much in the midst of a drought...

We must take back whatever we can. Not only for the sake of the wildseed, but to also thwart whatever the Drust intend to do.Thank you.

Vroth says: The Drust will rule all realms!
Vroth says: Vengeance... will be... ours...

We made it to the heart. Well done.

If that is what all the Drust are truly like, then Ardenweald is in a dire situation, indeed.Heart of Tirna NochGo for the HeartI was right! A great deal of anima has been stored inside the heart of the grove.

The Drust must have collected it from all over Ardenweald.

And now, we will take it back.

Quickly, destroy that barrier and grab the heart. Niya and I will protect you.

Niya says: So much anima... could we not use it to restore your grove? And mine, as well!
Ara'lon says: Our groves are gone, Niya. We must accept it and let them go.
Niya says: There must be some way to bring back what we've lost! Some way to ease the pain...
Ara'lon says: They were sacrificed to save Ardenweald. The greatest thing we can do now is fight to protect it.

Now that we have the heart, we need to find a way out of this place.

Dreamweaver says: Well, it's pretty clear that this spirit won't dream peacefully until we confront what haunts it.

Dreamer's WildseedYou're a natural at this. Now we can bring the spirit's nightmares into the open and deal with them directly.

If we succeed, she will be so much more at peace.

Those Drust really are cruel to us fae! Those spirit tenders were just trying to do their job...

Thank you for helping them.

Droman Aliothe

This is just the beginning of their attack. But it is still a heavy blow dealt to them. Thank you.

You're ready to begin preparing for the ritual? Wonderful.

I am also ready!

Dreamweaver says: Good. All that's left is to begin the ritual.

Visions of the Dreamer: OriginsThe spirit within the wildseed dreams of her birth and youth, in the primordial days of her world.

Someone as close to her as a brother, turned to an enemy.

Go to the second Dreamshrine in the Basin, and help vanquish the pain of this nightmare.

Dreamweaver says: The nightmares may not be real... but they can still hurt you. Be careful.

I miss you, my love.

We will be together again in the Dream, one day.

Daughter

Mother, if only you were here with me. Our kin still have hope, but we struggle without you.

I need your guidance.

Adopted Son

You were the mother that walked the path of the dream with me. You taught me so much.

The world needs you.

Student

My beloved made the right choice, when she tried to save you. I grieve for the way it ended.

The Dream will never be the same.

Dear Friend

My friend... I mourn your loss, and the part that I had to play in it.

I hope that this is not the end.

Dreamweaver says: So much left unfinished. So much remorse and regret...

Worldbreaker

Dreamweaver says: A dear friend's betrayal... a pain that never fades...

Lore Spotlight: The Dreamer's Dreams

The Dreamer is, of course, Ysera of the Green Dragonflight, and many of her dreams are instantly recognizable.

The Consort is Eranikus, who died sacrificing himself in the War Against the Nightmare. It seems he has found his way safely to the Emerald Dream.

The Daughter is Merithra, who took up leadership of the Green Dragonflight after her mother's death. It seems she is struggling to believe she can live up to her mother's legacy.

The Adopted Son is the Wild God Cenarius, the patron of Druids. When his birth sent a ripple through the Emerald Dream, Ysera took an interest in him right away, and it was she who taught him the secrets of the Dream.

The Student is Malfurion Stormrage, the very first Druid, who learned his craft from Cenarius himself.

The Dear Friend is, of course, Tyrande Whisperwind, leader of the Night Elves, and High Priestess of Elune, who was forced to play a part in Ysera's death after Ysera became corrupted by the Emerald Nightmare during the Story of Val'sharah.

The Worldbreaker is Neltharion, the Black Dragon Aspect, former leader of the Black Dragonflight. Neltharion became Deathwing after he fell to the corruption of the Old Gods, betraying his fellow Aspects. Ysera, along with the leaders of the other Dragonflights, was forced to help destroy the friend that would have once been as close as a brother.

We all start somewhere. Sometimes in unexpected places. Me, I just popped out of the ground like a flower.

To have an old friend turn against you, in the most terrible way. How very painful.

But we are so close now, to soothing the spirit within the wildseed.End of the Dream

Dreamweaver says: It's time. Enter the spirit's nightmare and bring her peace.

The time has come. The ritual will be complete when you have fully entered into the spirit's dreams.

It will be as if you are her, in every aspect.

She relives the moment of her death over and over again. It torments her. Something about how she ended... she had no control over her actions. She hurt the ones she loved.

Speak to me when you are ready to immerse yourself in her nightmare of the end.YseraXavius

Ysera says: It begins again... the pain and agony, the madness beyond measure...
Ysera says: Forgive me, children. My actions... they are not my own...
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Now Xavius has me by the throat. I must abandon my beloved, and subdue the most beautiful creature I have ever known.
Ysera says: This is your end, mortals. The Dream is undone!
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Not while I still draw breath.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: Are you truly lost, Ysera? After all we have built? All we have done?
Ysera says: Do what you must, dear friend. It is the only way.
Tyrande Whisperwind says: By the light of Elune, we will end this madness!
Ysera says: My time draws near. I feel... her embrace...

What a terrible end for such a majestic spirit...

But that was why she connected with you! Because you are of the same world! Azeroth!

Now, I can finally feel her nightmares wane. At last, she knows some peace.

Thank you, my friend.

Lady Moonberry yells: Hey! Everyone listen!
Lady Moonberry says: We're not the only ones who witnessed that nightmare. The Drust are approaching as we speak!

Sorry! While we were in dreamland, possessed spies have snuck into Hibernal Hollow!

They must be hunted down and slain before they can report back on the grove's defenses.

Droman Aliothe

Our enemies close in swiftly, <name>. We must sound the call to defend the grove!

Use this horn to call upon our protectors. Summon the Wild Hunt to slay those who would attack us.

Droman Aliothe says: The Hunt did not heed the call? That does not bode well.

Droman Aliothe

Have you uncovered all those pesky spies yet?

The Wild Hunt rides to our aid... but not from the west?

That is where Hunt-Captain Korayn was tracking a dangerous foe. She and her hunting party must have been waylaid.Hunt-Captain KoraynMissing!

Droman Aliothe

The Wild Hunt has answered the call to defend us... except for Hunt-Captain Korayn and her forces.

She had led her hunting party to the west, on the trail of a powerful foe. They may have encountered trouble.

Find her and provide whatever aid she requires.

We need her hunters and her leadership if our defenses are to hold.

Hunt-Captain Korayn says: I see your hunt goes well, mortal.

Hunt-Captain Korayn

These Drust thought to send a force to strike us from behind.

<Korayn smirks.>

Your call brought my fellow huntsmen and huntresses to reinforce us. Our foes were the ones caught by surprise.Enemies at the GatesLorkron the Hunter

Hunt-Captain Korayn

Lorkron is here.

I tracked him all the way from the Glittering Falls. Then I saw the Drust try to flank our forces.

I'd say they were rather surprised that we turned the tables against them.

<Korayn's smile is fierce. She lifts her weapon and her voice to address all present.>

Huntsmen and huntresses, with me! We ride to defend the grove! Take no prisoners and leave none standing!

Hunt-Captain Korayn yells: Wild Hunt, with me! For Ardenweald!

Droman Aliothe

This attack... It is like they are being driven!Battle for Hibernal Hollow

Droman Aliothe

This is where we make our stand. The Drust and their minions have us nearly overrun.

But we will not let them destroy Hibernal Hollow. Nor will they take our anima or our wildseeds.

Fight with us. Let us drive them out.

Droman Aliothe says: A great danger looms. Come to me, and together we will face it.

I am ready to stand with you!

Gorak Zhar says: Their anima will feed our victory.

<Moonberry looks at you, resolute. Her voice is strangely formal, her manner commanding.>

Come, <name>. We will carry her on the Path of Rebirth and entreat the Queen to save her.

Hurry and make preparations. We have little time.

Lady Moonberry says: I once said that your voice is but one bird singing in the night.
Lady Moonberry says: Well... I think it's time we all sang with you.

Lord Herne

Lord Herne says: Moonberry. Here to play more tricks? Or are there serious matters at hand?
Lady Moonberry says: Matters most serious, I'm afraid.
Lady Moonberry says: Lord Herne, we request an audience with the Winter Queen.

Lord Hern

Well met, stranger. You arrive in... interesting times.

<Herne snorts a laugh.>

And with equally interesting company.Awaken the Dreamer

Lord Hern

Much of the Queen's focus has centered on the Grove of Awakening, where rejuvenated spirits emerge from their wildseeds and return to their worlds.

Perhaps it is fitting you carry a wounded spirit with you.

<Lord Herne studies Ysera's wildseed for a moment before a slow grin spreads across his face.>

This one fights with all of her being. Even now she clings to existence.

Come stranger, let us see what fate the Queen will decree for this one.Ara'lon

Lady Moonberry says: My queen! Please help us.
The Winter Queen says: This is of my sister. Why have you brought it to me?
Lady Moonberry says: This one is slipping away.
The Winter Queen says: Our duty is grim. Many have been lost. Why would I save her... pet?
Lady Moonberry says: Those who have dreamed by its side awaken with a joy and peace that whispers of wonder. If she dies... then all that is emerald dies with her.
Ara'lon says: Some must be sacrificed. But some must be saved.
Ara'lon says: If we forget that, all that will remain will be empty shells... and sorrow.

Lore Spotlight: The Winter Queen's Sister

Several hints are made about the Winter Queen's sister, who was still unknown when this questline first came out. From this cinematic, we know that the Winter Queen is unhappy with her sister, and that she identifies Ysera as her sister's "pet".

The identity is revealed in the Story of Chains of Domination, Shadowlands' Patch 9.2 main storyline. The Winter Queen's sister is Elune, who reached down for Ysera's soul when she died, and who is bound to the cosmic force of Life in the same way that the Winter Queen is bound to the cosmic force of Death.

In the face of the forests of Ardenweald dying due to the anima drought, the Winter Queen cried out to her sister for help. Though Elune did try to use the tragic event of the Burning of Teldrassil to save Ardenweald, the Night Elf souls never reached their destination. At this stage in the story, the Winter Queen believes her sister abandoned her - yet she still sacrifices some of her own anima to save Ysera.

Winter Queen

My Court informs me that you bear an important message.

You may now deliver it.

<Deliver the Primus's message.>

The Winter Queen observes the message from the Primus.
Winter Queen says: My old friend. After countless ages, our worst fears have come to pass.
Winter Queen says: If the Banished One stirs, then we face a danger even more grave than this crippling drought.
Winter Queen says: Come, mortal. Join me at my court and stand before the Heart of the Forest. There we shall speak further.

The JailerThe Maw

Yes, your majesty?

Winter Queen says: The Heart of the Forest is vital to Ardenweald... and to the protection of the realms beyond.
Winter Queen says: Long ago, we drew upon its magic to ensure the Maw would be inescapable. That the Banished One would remain forever bound.
Winter Queen says: The drought has caused the Heart to wither. Its strength must be bolstered... though we have precious little anima to save our waning groves.
Winter Queen says: An impossible choice. Yet, one that must be made for the good of the cycle.

Winter Queen

Dire portents indeed.

I have used what little anima we possess to save our groves and the spirits they nurture. So many were lost... all as the Heart of the Forest grew ever weaker.

Keeping the Banished One bound within the Maw will require more anima than Ardenweald can spare.

<The Queen considers for a moment.>

Sire Denathrius is a master of anima extraction. Journey to Revendreth and inform him of our plight. I know he will lend us his aid.

Your allies in Oribos can open the way.

Winter Queen says: Your path leads onward, mortal. Know that you have gained an ally in me, and in Ardenweald.

What will you do now?

I feel that so much has happened in my absence.

It will take time for me to be myself again, if that is even possible.

Thank you for saving me.

<Stay awhile and listen.>

Ysera says: I feel a profound connection to this realm. And yet, in my dreams I still soar above Azeroth.
Droman Aliothe says: You are bound to the Queen, and to Ardenweald, just as I am. Yet I envy your dreams of home.
Ysera says: The longing in your voice speaks of loss.
Droman Aliothe says: My world was shattered beneath the hammer of the Burning Legion. There is nothing left but ashes.
Droman Aliothe says: Now this forest is my home. As it is meant to be. We serve the cycle, and the Queen guides us.
Ysera says: But Ardenweald, too, is under threat. I see many shadows tearing at its fringes. Clawing their way in.
Droman Aliothe says: Aye. Though with your help, we will drive them back. Of this, I am certain.
Ysera says: Thank you, Aliothe. I welcome your counsel, and your friendship.
