I'd definitely include the contenders gear as an easy cost effective way to get ready for heroics. Even though they're technically for PvP they are much better than any 437 item.

Very nice guide thus far.

I've recently gotten my main to max level and pretty much all slots full with raid gear, and I've been working on my protection/retribution paladin who has been stuck at 80 (never played her in Cata). She's now 86 and running normal MoP dungeons; I'll definitely check back to see what you recommend in way of JP/VP and craftable items for her.

There's full sets of healing and tanking plate in the craftables that you're omitting which is well above the 438 minimum for heroics. Each piece is 450 and suitable for tanking or healing.

This is an outrage, OUTRAGE I say. Warlocks will NOT go to the Mage - DPS section, NO! And you know whats going to happen instead? I'll tell you what's going to happen. You will give the warlocks the appropriate listing in the proper format and show the proper respect that is due to the superior casting class. I mean really, 'See Mage DPS'...tsk. Although other forum/wowhead members have pointed out missing items that should have been included in this guide, I still see it as an excellent GUIDE in gearing up when hitting level 89-90 with the goal being the ability to run heroics and LFR. While members made purposeful contributions as to class/spec items that were missing, and PvP craftables that were excluded from the guide, this is...after all....a "guide". For someone new to WoW and leveling to 90, this guide would be indispensable.

Great job, and I am giving my 5 stars just for the fact that this guide is exactly what new players need (until someone makes another newbie guide that out-rates it). Going to send the link to this guide to a friend of mine.

This is a great guide and any fresh level 90 will find this information invaluable. However I must point out a minor typo in the following section:

Different paths for Gearing Up

One thing to do is finish up Dread Wastes (if you want) and Complete Arena of Annihilation.

Once you've done that, if you've been accumulating Justice Points, you can buy some 458 pieces with those. Hopefully this will get you to the 435 required to run Heroic Dungeons. If you don't have Justice Points, you can get some craftables (either craft them, or get them on the AH) to get you to 435. Otherwise, you can grind out Dailies for a faction (I would strongly suggest Shieldwall) to get a piece of valor gear.

Once you are queued for Heroics, you have two options to get to 460. You can either grind rep with factions and buy Valor Gear, or you can just constantly run Heroics to get 463 pieces (with maybe the odd high level craftable item), to get you to 460. Personally, I would suggest going for Shieldwall rep, as you can get a few 396 items from them.

Notice the number bolded at the end of the last paragraph, not sure many people would be that excited about obtaining an ilvl 396 item at lvl 90! Hehe

Edit: One other thing, you have the Firecracker Corona listed as 1150 Valor Points on the Mage section but only 1125 Valor in both the Priest and Warlock sections.

For a hunter just getting started gearing up, there is an archaeology-craftable ranged weapon that has the same DPS & stats as the Klaxxi-reputation weapon (weapon speed is different, but all the stats balance out to be equal to the weapon cited here), if you don't have the rep yet. It comes from the Mantid digsites. Can't remember the name of it... but if you don't have the Klaxxi rep yet, it is a good way to go.

Note that all of the items listed are getting a mighty reduction in Valour/Justice cost when 5.4 goes live. If you're thinking of purchasing anything you may want to wait as they will all cost significantly less than they currently do.

Adjustments have been made to Mists of Pandaria faction quartermasters.

Epic quality (purple) Valor Points items sold by the Shado-Pan Assault now have their reputation requirements reduced to Friendly or below, and have their Valor Points cost reduced by 34%.
Epic quality (purple) Valor Points items sold by all other Mists of Pandaria faction quartermasters no longer have reputation requirements, and will now cost Justice Points instead of Valor.
Rare quality (blue) items have their Justice Points cost reduced by 75%.
No changes for items that require an Exalted reputation.

Thanks gunstarr. I am noticing now that these two weapons are slightly different, aside from the difference in speed. Secondary stats for the Amber Sprayer of Klaxxi'vess are +617 Crit & +570 Mastery; where secondary stats for the archaeology-craftable Sonic Pulse Generator are +600 Haste & +600 Mastery. I don't know if Blizzard considers these differences of secondary stats into their calculated DPS or not... but I feel this makes the Amber Sprayer a slightly better option given the commonly-accepted stat priorities. Obviously, if something changes or you prefer +600 Haste & +30 Mastery over +617 Crit, go with the Sonic Pulse Generator.

An interesting side note on the Sonic Pulse Generator... this gun makes NO SOUND when fired, completely silent... I hated this, but it might be the effect some are going for.

Updating for 5.4 The main section is all done. I've removed all the 450 PvP gear and replaced with the 476 gear. Restructured a bit, and I've started on the class/role section.

DK DPS, Hunter, Priest DPS, Mage, Warlock, and Ele Shaman are done so far. Next up is Druid DPS and Paladin DPS.

Arrgh, I can't believe you all let me get away without adding the 463/476 and 502 Blacksmithing weapons added in 5.3. I totally missed those. I've added to the main section now, and will update the classes next.

For the crafting section of the guide I notice you say "the the" twice.
Nothing major, but.. Just letting you know

Oopsies, another error spotted.
Under the Dungeon and LFR section, once you hit 90 you still CAN do normal dungeons, you just cannot queue for a random normal, you must queue for specifics

"You can run regular Pandaria dungeons while questing to level 90. These reward you with JPs and will drop level 410, 435 and 450 gear. Once you get to level 90, you are no longer able to run these dungeons"

Hey sorry guys. I really feel less than motivated to finish the individual class sections. Let me tell you why.

Although they will be complete, they will hardly get used. Most people will just head to Timeless Isle and get gear there, and start running LFR and stuff. So, listing all the Justice, Honor, Valor, and Crafting gear will really be overkill, unlike it was at the start of the expansion.

I will put comments in all ones that are out of date, and people can always use the main body of the guide to look for Justice, Honor, Valor, and Crafting gear.

I'm also rethinking doing these individual class sections, and putting more work into the main body of the guide for WoD.

Regardless of whether this guide is completely up to date as to what's new in the last several seconds or not, it's (like Ivory Snow) 99 44/100s up to date and it's a terrific place to start from, well-organized and comprehensive.

For many of us who suffer from multiple-alt-ADD, there just isn't any other way to figure all this out other than hours spent on multiple sites and hundreds of envelope backs covered with arcane scribblings. Thank goodness I failed med school or I wouldn't even be able to read my own notes.

Note that the Honor gear you can buy now is 522. I won't be updating the individual class sections that are complete, so just use the main body.

Just want to say THANK YOU THANK YOU for the great guide. I've been gone from WoW for over a year and leveled a fresh 90 had no idea where to start gearing with all the new raids, & islands everywhere this was extremely helpful.

Go to timeless isle if you are a fresh 90. You will be mostly geared in 496 epics in a couple hours just from looting chests. Go get the Handy Notes Timeless Isle addon from curse gaming

Timeless Isle and Heroic Scenarios are the absolute best places to get fresh 90 gear.

Opening the giant chests on the Isle will give you Burden of Eternity, which will upgrade your 496 gear to 535 (granted you haven't already opened the item)

You can also get Burden's from rare drops. I've only seen this happen a few times, usually on Archiereus of Flame.

Having fully upgraded Timeless Gear (or even just a few 535's with the rest being 496), is a great way to get into Flex raids for better gear.

That's how I get geared up quickly with all my alts. Works like a charm.

A couple of things.

1. I'll be updating the body of the guide tomorrow to include Honor item level increase, and gold used to buy former JP and VP gear. Also, I'll include stuff about Ordos on TI now that the Legendary Cloak is not required, and also talk about Level 90 USRS. I will not be updating the class sections. This guide is only relevant for another month.

2. I'm back playing WoW, and will be doing a Gearing Up When You HIt 100 guide.
