Utgarde Pinnacle (Timewalking) Dungeon Strategy Guide

Completing 5 Timewalking dungeons in A Frozen Path Through Time rewards Seal of Inevitable Fate which is the bonus roll currency for Tier 18 and Mythic Dungeon loot, as well as a Iron Fleet Treasure Chest containing normal-mode Hellfire Citadel loot.

The gear earned from Timewalking bosses is ilvl 660, which is better than gear from Heroic Dungeons, Highmaul Normal, and Highmaul LFR.

If you did not run this instance back in the day, Timewalking is a great opportunity to learn more about the instance with friends. Players above level 81 can queue together for this Timewalking instance, so this is a fun way to play with friends that are not max level.

All bosses drop 5 Timewarped Badge (end bosses 10 Timewarped Badge), and this currency is used to purchase mounts, toys, badge gear, and more. See the full list in our Timewalking Guide.

For completing the instance and killing every boss, you can earn 5 Timewarped Badge.

Svala SorrowgraveNotable Trash Mobs:

Dragonflayer Deathseekers have a Cleave effect, so melee DPS may occasionally take heavy damage

The Deathseekers will also debuff the tank with Grave Strike, which will detonate after 5 seconds, dealing damage to nearby allies; this Magic effect can be dispelled

Dragonflayer Seers will cast Lightning Bolt and Chain Lightning at players, and use Healing Wave to heal their allies

Dragonflayer Fanatics buff themselves with Fervor, an Enrage effect that increases their damage done and movement speed, and prevents them from being CCed

When Fervor is removed, the Fanatic is stunned for 4 seconds

Scourge Hulks attack their target with Mighty Blow, which will deal heavy damage and knock the target back, and cast Volatile Infection on a random player

Classes with abilities that remove Disease effects can dispel the Volatile Infection

Sinister Strike deals moderate damage to the tank

Call Flames causes nearby Flame Braziers to spit a Ball of Flame at a random player

Ritual of the Sword

The chosen player is debuffed with Ritual Preparation, is transported onto Svala's altar, and is incapacitated

Three Ritual Channelers will Paralyze the sacrificial player

Svala will cast Ritual Strike, summoning a sword over the sacrificial player's head that will slowly descend

The rest of the party must kill the Ritual Channelers to free the incapacitated player before Ritual Strike completes

Players standing on the altar when Ritual Strike completes will take extremely heavy damage

Attacking the Ritual Channelers afflicts players with Shadows in the Dark

Taunt Svala quickly after she is broken out of her Ritual of the Sword

If affected by Ritual Preparation, quickly move off the altar once all three Paralyze debuffs fade

Attack the Ritual Channelers if not affected by Ritual Preparation

Stay off the altar to avoid Ritual Strike damage

Use a damage-reduction CD when tanking Svala if you have any stacks of Shadows in the Dark

If affected by Ritual Preparation, quickly move off the altar once all three Paralyze debuffs fade

Quickly kill the Ritual Channelers if not affected by Ritual Preparation

Stay off the altar to avoid Ritual Strike damage

Use a personal survivability CD or a self-healing ability if your stacks of Shadows in the Dark are high

Tank damage is consistent but not terribly high

Players with stacks of Shadows in the Dark will need focused healing

Ball of Flame deals spiky, random damage to players

A player standing on the altar at the end of Ritual of the Sword will take extremely heavy damage - you may not be able to save them

If affected by Ritual Preparation, quickly move off the altar once all three Paralyze debuffs fade

Stay off the altar to avoid Ritual Strike damage

Gortok PalehoofNotable Trash Mobs:

Ymirjar Savages put dangerous Rend bleeds on the tank, and also debuff the tank with Beast's Mark

Ymirjar Flesh Hunters will Shoot their current target

Bloodthirsty Tundra Wolf will Fixate on a player for 10 seconds, dealing strong melee damage

The Stasis Generator will awaken each of the four hunting-trophy beasts along the walls

The order in which the beasts are activated is random

Players must defeat each beast before Gortok can be engaged

Ravenous Furbolg

Chain Lightning is usually cast on the tank, and has a short jump radius; players should stay at maximum range to avoid chaining the attack

When Crazed, the Furbolg will chase and attack random players

Terrifying Roar will fear all players within 10 yards; this is a Physical-school fear that cannot be dispelled

When the Furbolg becomes Crazed, players should spread out to avoid the entire party being struck by Terrifying Roar

Ferocious Rhino

Gore is a tank debuff that deals heavy Physical damage and leaves a short DoT effect

Stomp deals heavy Physical damage to players within 25 yards and knocks them down

The Rhino may charge a random player, dealing heavy Physical damage, and leaving a Grievous Wound

The Grievous Wound is a very strong DoT effect that will last 15 seconds or until the target is healed to full

Massive Jormungar

Poison Breath is a cone attack that deals Nature damage and leaves a Poison DoT

Tanks should face the Jormungar away from the party to avoid spreading the Poison Breath daamge

Acid Spit deals moderate Nature damage and decreases its target's armor; this is typically cast on the tank

Acid Splatter will summon six Jormungar Worms; these Worms will die very quickly to incidental AoE

Frenzied Worgen

Debuffs the tank with Mortal Wound every six seconds, reducing their healing received by 5% with each stack

At 20% health, the Frenzied Worgen will Enrage, increasing its attack speed and Physical damage for 8 seconds

This buff can be removed by classes with effects that clear Enrage mechanics

Gortok has very strong melee attacks, and will use Arcing Smash on the tank

Impale will target a random player and inflict very heavy damage along with a bleed effect

Every 12 seconds, Gortok's Withering Roar will reduce players' health pool by 1000 and deal moderate Physical damage

Face all of the enemies away from the party to limit cone attacks and AoE damage

Use an AoE ability to generate threat on the Jormungar Worms and quickly kill them when the Massive Jormungar uses Acid Splatter

Use Active Mitigation against the Ferocious Rhino's Gore ability, and against Gortok's Arcing Smash

Save powerful survivability cooldowns for the latter part of the Gortok fight where your health total is low

Ranged DPS should remain more than 25 yards from the bosses

Melee DPS should make sure to stay behind the enemies, since many have cone attacks

Use a personal survivability cooldown if affected by the Ferocious Rhino's Grievous Wound or Gortok's Impale

If possible, remove the Frenzied Worgen's Enrage effect

Save DPS cooldowns for Gortok, to prevent stacks of Withering Roar from becoming too high

Tank damage will be heavy for most of the beast fights and Gortok

Players affected by the Rhino's Grievous Wound or Gortok's Impale will need focused single-target healing

If you can remove Poison effects, dispel the tank during the Massive Jormungar fight

AoE heals should be used after each of Gortok's Withering Roar casts

Skadi the RuthlessNotable Trash Mobs:

Ymirjar Warriors will melee and Strike the tank, dealing heavy damage, and will occasionally Hamstring players

Ymirjar Witch Doctors will cast Shadow Bolts at their current target, and will debuff random players with Shrink, which can be removed by classes that can dispel Curse effects

Ymirjar Harpooners Throw their harpoons at players and will throw a Net at the tank, briefly immobilizing them

Skadi the Ruthless Tips & StrategySkadi the RuthlessGraufFreezing Cloud

The Freezing Cloud will deal heavy Frost damage to players standing in it

There are a few seconds of warning to allow players to move out of the Freezing Cloud before it lands

The party must avoid Freezing Cloud while killing the advancing trash packs, with particular focus on the Ymirjar Harpooners

Only players who loot a Harpoon can interact with the Harpoon Launchers

Each Harpoon looted allows one use of the Harpoon Launcher

Three Harpoons will need to hit Grauf to knock him out of the sky

Use the Harpoon Launchers when you see the raid warning, "Skadi the Ruthless is within range of the harpoon launchers!"

Crush will deal moderate tank damage and briefly knock the tank down

Poisoned Spear will deal very heavy damage to a random player and debuff them with a Poison DoT

Whirlwind deals very heavy damage to players in melee range, and Skadi will chase a random target while channeling this ability

Whirlwind

Pull adds out of the Freezing Cloud side of the hallway to avoid damage

Interrupt the Witch Doctors' Shadow Bolt or Shrink when possible

Quickly taunt Skadi when he lands

Taunt Skadi during Whirlwind to kite the boss away from the party

Activate a cooldown when affected by Crush

During the gauntlet, prioritize killing Ymirjar Harpooners and loot the Harpoon that drops near its corpse

Move to the safe side of the hallway when Grauf begins to cast Freezing Cloud

Use the Harpoon at the Harpoon Launchers to knock Skadi off his mount

Move away from the center of the balcony when Skadi lands to avoid being meleed

Move away from Skadi when he begins to Whirlwind, as this deals very heavy damage

Use a personal survivability cooldown if targeted by Poisoned Spear

The tank will require additional healing when affected by Crush

Players affected by Poisoned Spear will take very heavy single-target damage

Dispel the Poisoned Spear DoT if you can dispel poison effects, and/or the Shrink effect if you can remove curses

Players who take Whirlwind damage will require strong emergency healing to prevent them from dying

Move to the safe side of the hallway when Grauf begins to cast Freezing Cloud

Use a personal survivability cooldown if targeted by Poisoned Spear

King YmironNotable Trash Mobs:

Ymirjar Berserkers will Terrify players in front of them, causing a long Fear effect

Berserkers will also buff themselves with Shred, causing their melee attacks to hit harder

Ymirjar Dusk Shamans will heal other enemies with Dark Mending

Dusk Shamans also buff themselves with Lycanthropy, taking on the form of a Wolf Spirit and dealing greatly increased melee damage

Ymirjar Necromancers cast Shadow Bolt at their current target, and will cast a very powerful Shadow Bolt Volley, dealing heavy damage to all players within 30 yards

Necromancers may also summon 3 Mindless Servants, which will melee random players unless taunted by the tank

Pull packs of Berserkers back to reduce the likelihood of pulling additonal packs

Use line-of-sighting around the staircases or narrow hallways to pull caster packs back and avoid patrols

Tanks should face Berserkers away from the party to limit the number of people affected by Terrify

Players should interrupt the Ymirjar Necromancer's Shadow Bolt Volley and the Dusk Shaman's Dark Mending

Focus the Berserkers down first, then Dusk Shamans, then Necromancers

King Ymiron Tips & StrategyKing Ymiron

He buffs himself with Bane, which will deal heavy damage to all players within 10 yards each time he is attacked

He will attack the tank with Fetid Rot, a Disease that also reduces incoming healing

He will attack the tank with Dark Slash, dealing 50% of the tank's current HP in damage

Players should remove Bane if they have offensive dispels

Classes that can remove Disease effects should dispel Fetid Rot from the tank

Tanks can use a self-healing ability after Dark Slash

Screams of the Dead

Spirit Burst (entrance-right) will deal Shadow damage to all players

Spirit Strike (throne-right) is a tank debuff that increases their Physical damage taken

Spirit Fount (throne-left) summons an orb that will deal Shadow damage to nearby players

Avenging Spirits (entrance-left) will Curse their targets with Wither

Spirit FountScreams of the Dead

Avoid attacking Ymiron during Bane, particularly if affected by Spirit Strike or Fetid Rot

Use survivability cooldowns while debuffed with Spirit Strike

Quickly pick up threat on Avenging Spirits

Move Ymiron away from Spirit Founts when they spawn

Remove King Ymiron's Bane if your class has an offensive dispel

AoE the Avenging Spirits quickly

If your class has a way to break or grant immunity from stuns, use it to negate a Screams of the Dead cast

Ranged DPS should stay more than 10 yards from Ymiron to avoid most of the AoE damage

Primarily watch the tank's health, as Fetid Rot and Dark Slash can cause damage spikes

Dispel Fetid Rot if your dispel can remove Disease effects

Remove Bane if you have an offensive dispel

Stay more than 10 yards away from Ymiron, and move away from Spirit Founts when they spawn

Great guide! Utgarde Pinnacle was one of my favorites back in Wrath and I loved running it again. Think a-lot more people should brush up. I've never wiped on Skadi the Ruthless before until Timewalking. XD
