Riptide charges you have to manage and the higher emphasis on target selection, while is much simpler to execute on but also suffers more in scenarios where the group is very spread.

A lot of the benefits from come from being able to spread Riptide to more targets and having more power on Riptide and Chain Heal, but this does require constant attention to not overcap Riptide stacks, which can get complicated when ancestors going away will randomly reduce the cooldown in bursts of two seconds. Having to cast your Chain Heals yourself also presents challenges on heavy movement fights. on the other side is more weighted towards Healing Rain-related effects, passive healing increases and free Chain Heals from Lively Totems.

The result is that, while manages to avoid some of the issues presented from people not standing inside Healing Rain (both your own and the ones spawned by your tierset), it does this by putting a higher emphasis on always-be-casting and cooldown management, rapidly losing power if you miss play or have to constantly move and can't cast. will give the majority of player much better results, as it is extremely simple to play and most of the encounters in the season lend themselves to groups being close together enough to properly benefit from Healing Rain.

The core of the gameplay revolves around spreading Riptides, maintaining Surging Totem, using your Healing Stream Totem on cooldown, and using the rest of the time for Chain Heal. The build optimizes the healing from all these central components and avoids extra active buttons that don't represent big healing gains but increase complexity.

The least valuable point in the tree is Overflowing Shores. While moving this somewhere else will result in a small healing loss, you can opt into other options if you need a specific type of healing profile or utility:
For passive dps, talent into Acid Rain instead. This does represent a small healing loss but it can be worth it on scenarios with a lot of adds to benefit from the aoe damage.
Ancestral Vigor is another option, more oriented towards survivability, but getting a second point for it is much more costly.
For extra single target healing there are several options. Improved Earthliving Weapon is good in scenarios where you have to do spot healing but are constantly changing targets, as the guaranteed application of Earthliving Weapon means you will always have Earthsurge on targets that you are healing. Unleash Life will add extra burst when used and on your next cast every so often, making it a good burst single target option. Crashing Waves is a more passive increase to Healing Wave that also improves its mana efficiency a bit.

While Downpour is a very strong and efficient spell, it can also feel a bit clunky to use in some scenarios. It can be very potent if used in conjunction with our tierset to activate multiple Downpours at the same time, but keeping track of the random Healing Rains is very annoying. Getting three talent points to pick up the whole Downpour package is also very costly, as most tier 3 talents are very good now.
The randomness from Deeply Rooted Elements can make the talent feel bad to play, but the power of Ascendance is so high that moving this talent point into any other alternatives will result in clear losses.
Healing Tide Totem is only a bit behind Ascendance as because of Splitstream. It can be a valid option in situations where you prefer a raid cooldown that doesn't force you to cast during it.
Consider First Ascendant if the two-minute timing fits better for a specific boss fight. This can work with either major cooldown option but does reduce the power of Deeply Rooted Elements.

As you are forced into Unleash Life to summon the ancestors. Healing Rain is still a very strong part of your kit and the extra Riptides that you get from Offering from Beyond enhance the effects of Tidewaters, Undercurrent and Swelling Tides.

The choice between Routine Communication and Ancient Fellowship or Latent Wisdom and Heed My Call results in a minor difference. The "gambling ancestors" combo will give better overall results over a longer period of time at the cost of less consistency.

The flexibility of instantly casting your stronger healing spell by using your totems gives you greater ability to respond to situations. You do have slightly lower priority healing than but this can easily be compensated by other means while also gaining a much better damage contribution via Acid Rain.

Seems like these builds are outdated or not reflecting on what shammies actually play - as almost no one seems to progress the raid as Farseer, and almost no one plays Downpour with on totemic.

Farseer is rubbish now, Totemic dominates with the crazy aoe healing.

Why would you say that Farseer is the best choice on the mainpage, and then put Totemic as the best here? You've also said the trinket from L'ura in M+ is B-tier, when it is objectively one of the worst trinkets. I also fail to understand why you wouldn't take Windveil. Yes it's conditional and specialized - but 15% spell dr is better taking Purge (arguably more niche). Additionally, taking Ascending Air in M+ makes no sense. The alternative option in that tier provides way more utility and survivability than a CDR on a speed totem. Snare removals are potent this season.

You need consistency.
