Gruul slashes his primary target inflicting 451,536 Physical damage and applies a debuff which increase the damage taken from subsequent Inferno Strikes by an additional 20% per application of this debuff.

Additionally, this burning slash will also inflict 809,477 Fire damage split evenly among additional enemies in a cone behind the primary target. Burning them for 20,237 Fire damage every 3 seconds. This also applies a debuff that stacks.

Éboulement (Phase 1)

Rocks comes falling down from the ceiling, marking a circle on the ground which inside you will take 101,185 Physical damage every second.

Coups accablants (Phase 1)

Gruul strikes his primary target and inflicts 379,822 Physical damage to enemies within 10 yards.

It also applies a debuff which increase the damage taken from Coups accablants by 10% per application.

Fusée éclairante (Phase 1+2)

Mythic only ability.

Fireballs will be flying through the room, from side to side in a straight path.

Inflicts 101,185 Fire damage to those it passes through and additionally increases their Fire damage taken by 20%.

Heurt pétrifiant (Phase 1)

Knocks players in a random direction and begins the process of petrification.

You will move slower and slower as this debuff fades away and at 0 seconds you will be frozen to stone. Gruul will shatter the stones with mighty roar, causing players to inflict 66,782 Nature damage to all allies within 8 yards.

Frappe écrasante (Phase 1+2)

Gruul does a big smash which will be marked on the ground, a straight line infront of him.

Phase 2 consists of only these smashes on repeat.

This ability gets buffed when Gruul gets Saccage destructeur, making him cast it 50% quicker.

Saccage destructeur (Phase 1)

Gruul increases his haste by 50% and repeatedly slams the ground in fury.

Execution

Gruul has a 6 minute Enrage Timer.

You may run into this Enrage Timer so it's important that your raid does as much damage as possible, it's recommended to have healers help with damage when it's possible.

The fight is all about staying alive and trying to put as much damage as possible into Gruul. The complicated part is for tanks which has to deal with taunts and spreading the debuffs from Tranchoir de la fournaise properly on the raid.

Raid SetupTanks: 3

You will want three tanks on this fight to properly deal with the debuffs and taunting.

It doesn't matter which classes are used.

Healers: 4-5

We recommend that you use at least 2 classes that has a healing cooldown, such as druid, shaman and holy priest. Every class is viable for this encounter.

A balanced healer setup is always a safe bet for any fight.

DPS: 12-13

Good single target damage is required--use the appropriate single target dps talents.

A good balance between ranged and melee dps is recommended.

The 3rd tank taunts him back, and for the next slice, the 1st tank will taunt him to the melee group. He will keep the boss but move to the diamond position.

Your 2nd tank will taunt him to the melee for 2 slices in a row, with the 1st tank taunting him back all the time.

After that the 2nd tank should taunt him to the ranged group and he should keep the boss on him but move to diamond.

3rd tank should then taunt him to the ranged group for 2 slices, and on the 2nd he will keep the boss on him and move to diamond.

After this, your 1st tank will taunt him to the melee for 2 slices and your 3rd tank will taunt him back in between.

Tank 2 starts on boss, on slice 1 and 2 tank 3 taunts him quickly to the ranged camp, 2nd time to the melee group, tank 2 taunts him back.

For slice 3 ,tank 3 taunts him to the melee and he keeps the boss and moves to diamond.

For slice 4, tank 1 taunts him to melee, tank 3 taunts back.

For Slice 5, tank 1 taunts him to the ranged and he keeps the boss and moves to diamond.

For Slice 6 and 7, tank 2 taunts him to the ranged, and on number 7 he will keep it.

And for the last slices, 8 and 9 tank 3 taunts him to the melee and tank 2 taunts him back. And then intermission will begin and you can start from the beginning.

Class TipsRestoration Druid

Rêve de Cénarius is recommended to help the raid with damage output.

Use Wild Growths for each Tranchoir de la fournaise.

Ecorce has a 1 minute cooldown, use it!

Healing Priest

The preferred specialization for this encounter is discipline. It's good to know inside your head which groups will soak the next Tranchoir de la fournaise, so you can pre-shield them with Mot de pouvoir : Bouclier.

Have archangel in preparation for the slashes.

Holy Paladin

Use Devotion Aura for the Inferno Slice + Heurt pétrifiant combination.

Chasseur

You can deterrence Inferno Slice to prevent an application of the debuff while at the same time helping mitigate it.

I don't really see the point of having 3 tanks and since the guide is directed at more "casual" guilds who might have considerable dps problems and are prone to mess up somewhat more intricate presets, you might even want to argue that it's counterproductive. This strat is pretty much poorly suited for the players it is acutally written for.

We killed the boss in <20 pulls the first week using 2 tanks and our tanks basically didn't even die once and if you play the boss with more gear, which usually applies to casual players, the "simple" strat will scale even better with that increase in ilvl. By simple strat I mean playing the boss with 2 camps and 2 tanks. First tank takes 4 slices, second takes 5 slices. Each camp takes 3 slices before the target changes to the other camp. You stack classes with immunities in camp 1 since that camp is going to take 6 slices overall between the rampage phases and that's it. Basically every somewhat more recent kill uses this start.

It is possible to do Mythic with 4 tanks while solo-soaking every Inferno Slice. The good thing is that due to the anti-solo-soaking mechanic, there will be 12 Inferno Slices in one p1, but Gruul will not use any of his other p1 abilities because he is too busy on Tranchoir de la fournaise, so the rest of the group won't get much damage and you can have just 3-4 healers. The only damage non-tanks face will be those flares, which are easy to dodge and not fatal. During the Rampage phase you may need to use group healing cds.
