Slow news day and wanting to stir up controversy it seems, because this is the most pointless article I've seen about D4 in some time, and that's saying a lot because about half of the articles about D4 end up being pointless. The game doesn't have as much going on as WoW does, it doesn't need the same amount of articles coming out daily.
Doesnt matter how stupid and ugly they look, there will always be idiots who will pay for them
Logging in from my premium account to say that if this the content Wowhead is looking to push, I will be canceling.
Look at wow, people whine over all the good stuff goes to the shop. Now people whine about stuff not being good enough in the shop.
/facepalm at the article and bad encouragement."i wanna support the game and a job well done", that goes for F2P games. Not ones that you already pay a premium amount (and an ever increasing sub like WoW). You're already supporting by enabling them to sell early accesses, ultimate premium battle passes, etc.
Honestly seeing transmog that isn't " Oh god I HAVE to have it! I NEED it! " is great. Getting really tired of buyable items/transmogs/etc being pushed every time I turn around. Wowhead, this is one big fat L for you. Unreal that you are actually promoting whaling.
The pure amount of cringe in the majority of the replies to this article is laughable! I agree with the OP that the in-game shop could use more options with a bit more flare/style. This is a fantasy game, and who doesn't like their glowy/shiny when they are walking about in a MMO? (whc D4 has been designed to be!)Nobody is forcing anyone to buy anything on the cash shop. you CHOOSE to either buy it or you CHOOSE to not. If you have a compulsory issue and cant control your spending just because you see something with appeal, that is on you friend! If you see something that you like but cant afford it, then don't get it (or maybe even use it as a gift suggestion to friends/family instead of something that you will just toss under your bed or in your closet never to touch again!) See something you like and you feel it is of good value, then buy it and support the artists that made that shiny!
PoE did 99% of their work for them on everything from how to run seasons, to cosmetic MTX.And Blizz ignored it and did their own thing.
No thank you. We need less cash shop stuff, not more. Extremely disappointing take.
I both agree and disagree with this article. On one hand, I don't want all the cool gear going into the cash shop, that's really bad for the game and really shouldn't be where they put the best gear, which I don't think this article is calling for, cause that would be really really dumb. I want to be able to earn good gear in the game and keep it that way. On the other hand, the stuff that's in the shop has been really bad. It's like what's the point of even having it. Which yes I would prefer there not being a shop, but if they're going to put a shop in they may as well try a tiny bit. They're WAAAAAAAAAAAY overpriced on what they actually show off and only one of them I find has been any good (The Barbarian with Lion Pelt one) but other than that they've all been. I think they've done a lot poorer with the gear in this game compared to the last game. The "too cartoony" look is a problem sure, but at least the gear looked good.
They should definitely add cooler items to the shop. I have no issues spending extra money but I won't spend it on trash.
Good article and I share the author's opinion. Clearly there's a lot of opinions with regards to in-game shops that sell cosmetics; for D4 armor sets and sets for your mount. Most of the in-game cosmetics are ugly as heck! Even most of the in-game gear that drops looks bad. Sure, it makes more sense to earn the gear in the game itself through playing, but sometimes people just don't want to grind for a certain piece of gear! BUt Blizzard should NOT charge an arm and leg for mediocre looking gear either! Either get artistically creative with the gear appearances or remove it completely from the in-game shop. At the end of the day, is the game fun? Yes or no? I rather just look cool massacring a horde of demons in my gucci shoes! Happy hunting! <3
Possibly the worst wowhead article i have ever read. Shop items should never be better or more unique than what you can obtain in game.
Diablo 2 was $50 in 2000. Adjusting for inflation, that's $85-$90 in today's money. As well, games are more complicated now and require more manpower by far to create. If not for MTX shops, you're paying over a hundred dollars for AAA titles.Nobody likes cash shops unless they have plenty of money to dump on them, but they would like $120 box costs for the base game a lot less. This stuff used to be earnable in game because you used to be paying for the full game with the box price. That isn't the case anymore, even if I totally understand how someone can look at a $60 box cost and feel like that should be enough.
