Meet Xiao Liu, World of Warcraft's first companion pet with the ability to teleport players, taking them to any Mists of Pandaria dungeon or raid! Revealed by NetEase to soon be available in China for ¥120 (around $16 USD), we've discovered independent evidence suggesting it may be heading to North American, European, and other regions as well.
NetEase also released a cute video hyping up the pet, with a surprise
Black Myth Wukong
reference at the end.
Chinese Reveal
The pet was revealed for Chinese audiences earlier today by NetEase detailing its features and price tag, though of all the places the pet could teleport players to, Mists of Pandaria dungeons and raids is an interesting choice. Undoubtedly still a popular expansion, it's difficult to imagine a high demand for getting around the zone quickly, especially after the Mists of Pandaria: Remix event has already ended. While it may have been an exceptionally useful feature in the upcoming
Mists of Pandaria Classic
, the pet is specifically
only available in the retail version of the game
. Nevertheless, Xiao Liu is notable for being the first companion pet in World of Warcraft history to offer teleportation services - joining a very short list of service providing pets, including
Mini-Ragnaros
,
Smobas der Amboss
, the
Gildenherold
, and
Argentumknappe
.
Interacting with Xiao Liu in-game will present players with a standard dialogue menu asking them where they'd like to go, while using a teleport will incur a 20-minute cooldown adorably titled "Sleepy Xiao Liu."
"Wanderer Liu yawned adorably. He's too tired to teleport for you right now."
Potential Worldwide Release
Although NetEase has revealed nothing regarding for other regions in the world, we since discovered evidence suggesting that the pet could also become available in other regions: decrypting a new preview image tagged
"shop-card-full-panda-teleport"
on North American and European servers. Although unclear if the pet's name or price tag might change for western audiences, its a very interesting addition that raises the bar for future potential companion pet functionality - note that battle pets usually cost around ~$6 USD in China, so a commensurate amount would probably be closer to $25 in the west.
A shop card recently decrypted on NA and EU servers also showcases the pet, suggesting its eventual release in other regions.
Astute readers may also recognize that Xiao Liu shares the same model as the red furred
Teebüschelzähmer
datamined as a
future Trading Post offer in Patch 11.0.7
, though undoubtedly without the unique teleportation features.
