Normally with our nostalgia posts we go back a few expansions to remember what we are up to. Today though we are looking just one year back to June 29, 2021. On this day, Patch 9.1: Chains of Domination was released. It was only a year ago that we were heading into Korthia and chasing Sylvanas through the Sanctum of Domination.
The traitorous Sire Denathrius has been defeated, but the power of the Maw still grows. Return to the Maw with the restored strength of the kyrian, necrolords, night fae, and venthyr and together strike back at the Jailer.
New Raid: Sanctum of Domination
For eons, the Jailer was bound within The Maw. Now, his endless armies gather as he expands its boundaries to consume Oribos. In the face of annihilation, Bolvar marshals his last remaining allies to charge into the heart of Torghast and confront the Jailer where he is most powerful.
Sanktum der Herrschaft
has ten boss encounters, culminating in a lengthy chase from the top of Torghast, up the chains, to Oribos and the final battle with Sylvanas Windrunner. Sanctum may well be best remembered for the Shards of Domination mechanic with which players could somewhat customize their gear.

The controversial defeat of the final boss ended not in Sylvanas' death, but rather in the death of who she had become. Many who wanted to see her punished for her crimes were left cold by the possibility of her ultimate redemption.
New Zone: Korthia, City of Secrets
As mid-expansion patch zones go,
Korthia
was unexceptional. Dailies, mounts and pets to collect, rares, treasures; it boasted all of the usual and expected content.

New Mega-Dungeon: Tazavesh, the Veiled Market
Tazavesh, der Verhüllte Markt
is a gorgeously detailed, intricately designed mega-dungeon. Despite the stunning milieu and 8 challenging bosses, Tazavesh ultimately suffered from being a bit too innovative with many players perplexed and frustrated with many of the mechanics.

Patch 9.1 also introduced a few items of note:
Covenant Assaults were added to the Maw
Flying was enabled in Shadowlands proper, although not in Oribos, Korthia, or the Maw
Ground mounts became usable in Korthia and the Maw
Torghast was expanded by 4 layers, and each layer was reduced by one floor. Torments and Blessings replaced the difficulty adjustments for each layer. The Tarragrue was removed, and the Adamant Vaults was added.
