The War Within
is World of Warcraft's latest expansion, revealed on November 3, 2023 and launching on August 26, 2024. This is WoW's tenth expansion, and introduces new features including
Delves

Warbands
, class-specific
Hero Talent
trees, the new
Earthen
allied race,
Skyriding
, and
4 new zones

The War Within Zones
In this expansion, players will venture deep beneath the surfaces of Azeroth and uncover
Khaz Algar
. A subterranean world exists below filled with secrets waiting to be discovered. Within this new world exists a nerubian empire, where the
Xal'atath, the Harbinger of the Void
has been building an army designed to bring Azeroth to submission.
Isle of Dorn
is The War Within's starting zone. These lands contain extensive, mountainous regions with vibrant nature flourishing over the landscape. This landscape is home to the
Earthen
race, where their capital city,
Dornogal
, will serve as the
central meeting grounds
for the Horde and the Alliance.
The Ringing Deeps
is a vast cavern system and is home to the
Machine Speakers
. Here, the Earthen engage in their work and ensure that the Titan Machines of old remain running.
Hallowfall
is a cratered land to the north bordered by rock formations. A giant crystal lies above the land providing light to the
Arathi
, a civilization that works to defend the borders of their lands from constant nerubian threats.
Azj-Kahet
is the pinnacle of nerubian society and where the
Harbinger of the Void
is building her army. Dark overtones fill the area with dangerous arachnid forces crawling throughout the veins of the landscape.
New Allied Race: Earthen
Coming with
The War Within
expansion is a brand new allied race:
The Earthen
. They are a titan-forged race that has been imbued with Azeroth's worldsoul. The Earthen will be available to both
the Horde and the Alliance
!
Earthen Racial Traits

: Draw upon your inner strength. Release to invoke the power of Azerite on a cone in front of you, dealing Fire damage. 2 minute cooldown. This is an empowered spell that gains additional effects as you empower it:
I: Deals Fire damage.
II: Heals allies hit by the effect.
III: Deals additional Fire damage to the highest health enemy hit by the effect.

New Account-Wide Progression System: Warbands
An exciting quality-of-life change is being introduced in
The War Within
in the form of
Warbands
. Warbands introduces a variety of systems designed to make progression across multiples characters a lot nicer for players to manage. Here's what we know so far:
Warband Bank
: A reagent bank with multiple bank tabs is coming in
The War Within
allowing players to easily transfer reagents and items between characters.
Transferrable Gear
: Certain gear will be
Warbound
allowing players to send the gear between their characters.
Transferrable Currencies
: Transferring currencies between characters will become easier with The War Within! Players will be able to directly transfer currencies to the character they are playing within the User Interface!
General Account-Wide Progression
: Certain progression systems that were once character-specific are being integrated to an account-wide system in
The War Within
! Examples include: Reputation, Transmog collections, Flight paths, Delves, and Achievements!

Warbands Overview
New Class-Fantasy System: Hero Talents
Coming with
The War Within
is the addition of Hero Talents: an in depth class-fantasy system allowing players to give more customization and life to their characters. Hero Talent trees build on top of what we already have, while bringing class fantasy flavor inspired by iconic Warcraft archetypes.
How Hero Talent Trees Work:
3 trees total per class with 2 trees that can be swapped between per spec.
Hero Talent trees automatically unlock at level 71.
Players will earn 1 talent point per level from levels 71-80.
Each Hero Talent tree will come with 10 talents in total, each tree having several choice nodes for players to choose between.
Low opportunity cost for respec and swapping between trees.

Professions
Many Professions received tweaks and adjustments in The War Within, notably only Tailors will be able to loot cloth from humanoids.

Some systems introduced in Dragonflight are returning in The War Within with twists.
Reagent Quality is scaled much differently in The War Within, providing fewer bonuses at lower levels; for the average player.
Ingenuity is a Secondary Stat replacing Inspiration.
Crafting Orders see the addition of NPC Work Orders.

Skyriding
Introduced as Dragonriding in the
Dragonflight
expansion,
Skyriding
will be further expanded upon into
The War Within
expansion! This will give players multiple methods of transportation to choose from throughout their adventures.
Skyriding will be available to players immediately upon arriving to Khaz Algar.
The Skyriding Talent Tree will be moving to a more evergreen system.
Dragonriding Glyphs (which will be known as
Skyriding Glyphs
) will be available throughout Khaz Algar for players to collect.
Players will be able to earn Skyriding Proficiency as they level up which can be spent unlocking new talents in the Skyriding Tree.
Players will be able to swap between Skyriding or Steady Flight (TBC flying) depending on personal preference.
464 Mounts will have Skyriding available to them!

Delves
Delves
is a new form of endgame content coming with
The War Within
. Delves are composed of outdoor vaults that players will be able to explore alongside the Dragonscale Expedition.
Delves can be completed by groups composing of
1-5 players
.
Delves are
role-agnostic
- meaning players will be able to complete Delves in any specialization!
Delves will be integrated into
Seasonal content
, meaning players can earn rewards, mounts, pets, and more for the season through Delves. Additionally, there will be seasonal NPCs there to assist players with all of their Delving needs.
A new Outdoor row is being added to the Great Vault
! Players will be able to complete Delves for Great Vault rewards each week!

New Raid: Nerub'ar Palace
Nerub'ar Palace
is the first raid that will be coming with
The War Within
expansion. This will be an
eight-boss
raid in Azj-Kahet.
Nerub-ar Palace opens on September 10th, 2024 on Normal and Heroic difficulty, with Mythic opening the week after on September 17th, 2024.
Deep within the kingdom of Azj-Kahet lies Nerub-ar Palace, Queen Ansurek's seat of power. From this shadowed throne Queen Ansurek has tightened her grip on her Sureki followers, leading them along a dark path to a new future. As her paranoia grows, the members of the conspiratorial Severed Threads launch their final gambit against Ansurek's rule.

Cross-Realm Guilds
Throughout World of Warcraft's time, Blizzard has implemented many steps and enhancements when it comes to Guilds. Making Guilds more accessible to players across different realms has always been a wide-spread player desire. With The War Within Pre-Patch, Cross-Realm guilds will be available for players!
To further add, the restrictions on Cross-Realm Mythic Raiding have also been removed! This will allow players of all Realms to Mythic Raid when it becomes available as a part of The War Within Season 1!
Guilds are now able to invite characters on different realms. Cross-Realm Guild bank functionality will become available in the next update (11.0.2).
User Interface Updates
There are many new improvements coming to the User Interface in The War Within! We will cover the important notes below:
New Map Legend
The Map has been updated to include a new Legend that makes it much easier to distinguish between different types of quests, activities, and more!
New Spellbook Look
The Spellbook got a brand new look with The War Within! Players will be able to view more spells and abilities on one screen, passives can be hidden, and a search function can let players see what spells are missing from their action bars!
Arachnophobia Mode
The War Within comes with a lot of new Spider-based mobs and enemies. For those who would rather not see them on your screen, a new
Arachnophobia Mode
is available in the Accessibility section of the Options Menu! This mode seems to replace all most spiders in the game with alternative creatures where possible.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Blizzard has mentioned that not ALL spider models will be replaced!!!

What is with Bliz taking the parts of WoW that players hate the most and turning them into expansions?
Nobody likes the cave parts of quests where you have to go into caves.
I think we need to call out what the structure of this expansion is really about: Bliz gave us all the ability to fly really fast in Dragonflight, now they need to create artificial obstacles to prevent us from clearing out an entire expansion in less than a week.
Historically, in portions of gameplay where Bliz has used a lot of caves, it was visibly an attempt to slow down players who could not otherwise be slowed down by minigame and puzzle quests by intentionally making every route confusing. They make tunnels that loop back on themselves and interlock with other tunnels that also loop back on themselves so that each trip requires 2-3 attempts to find the exit.
That's all this whole expansion is really about. Bliz realized they DFU when people got dragon riding and started blowing through content despite attempts to restrict their progress by making flying mounts that have to stop and recharge every ten seconds like a ten-year-old Nissan Leaf.
And you know what's coming next. It's an underwater expansion so you have to swim everywhere and it will have swimming mounts that have to stop and recharge. Watch and see if it don't happen. They'll say something like, oh the caves got a whole under the ocean and flooded, so now you have to swim everywhere.

Looking for the list of AddOns for a character on the TWW loading page?
You can access AddOns on the Game Menu in 2 places:
On the Warband group loading page, click on a character, then click on the word
MENU
at the top of the screen. This opens the Game Menu. IMO “MENU” should be re-labelled “GAME MENU”.
or In the World, click on the
red question mark
that's the icon for the Game Menu. It's the last icon in a row of utility icons (Character Info, Professions, Talents & Spellbook, etc.).
Once you’ve pulled up the
Game Menu
, click on
AddOns
. You'll see a complete list of AddOns. Select a character using the drop down menu to see character-specific AddOns.
The Game menu in the TWW loading screen is shorter than the Game Menu in the World:

It seems like only a few classes and specs actually have anything special about their Hero Talents. For a subtlety Rogue, it's just procs for abilities we already have.
I wish all classes and specs had Hero Talents that made that selection unique and showed as such on that character. Too bad :/ maybe all the time wasted on sharing things on Warbands took up the development time and that is why we are seeing more tweaks now, 5-6 months after release.
I miss the days when the devs wanted players to experience the entirety of the game, not just rush as fast as possible to endgame so they can repeat the same 1% of the game, over and over again.
