This questline begins in the city of Oribos. Though most of the quest is the same for both factions, the initial quest is different for the Alliance and Horde.
吉恩·格雷迈恩
has arrived to call your attention to a matter developing on Azeroth. It seems the Forsaken are up to something. (
老狼的耳目
)
Genn Greymane
An alarming rumor has reached me, thanks to our spies.
The Forsaken are mustering in Tirisfal Glades. For what purpose, I do not know. Notably, Calia Menethil has gone there as well.
We must know more of what they are up to, now that the accursed Banshee Queen no longer unites them.
Go, don a disguise and see what you can discover. Observe everything. And if there is opportunity to gain their trust and learn more, do as they ask.
I eagerly await your report.
Genn Greymane says: You must don a disguise and travel deep into enemy territory. Do not let down your guard.
Genn Greymane says: In life, Calia Menethil endured more than her share of sorrow. She may not be a typical undead, but the Forsaken are not to be trusted.
Before you leave, you may speak to Genn to learn more about your mission.
We cannot be lax in our vigilance. Much remains to be done, and much to be paid for.
How can I spy on the Forsaken without getting caught?
You will be disguised as one of the Horde. It may not be an exact match for your features, but it should fool them.
Remember, do not attack them, and do what they ask you to do.
We must know what they are plotting, and what they intend to do about Gilneas.
Why is Calia important?
Calia Menethil was once a member of the royal family of Lordaeron, and a priestess. But her brother, Arthas, is the one more infamous.
She was another victim to both the Scourge and to Sylvanas. The former killed her family, and the latter killed Calia herself in a brazen, heartless betrayal.
She was raised from death by a naaru and seems intent to continue her aim to help the former citizens of Lordaeron.
You are disguised as a Forsaken and teleported to the coast of Tirisfal Glades, where the land has been scarred by the Blight attack during the Battle for Lordaeron at the start of the Fourth War. You head to the town of Brill, where you find
佳莉娅·米奈希尔
waiting inside the Inn. She is welcoming, but hopes you are here to help.
Calia Menethil says: Who are--ah, my apologies. I did not recognize you at first.
Calia Menethil says: I hope that the old wolf has sent you to help. I believe doing so could benefit the Alliance just as much as the Horde.
Calia Menethil
<Calia studies you closely for a moment, a smile on her lips.>
You will fit right in. And do not fear, I will not reveal you to the others here.
But please understand, many of the Forsaken were once citizens of Lordaeron. They are trying to do something extraordinary here, and I promise, if you play along and help them, it will be worth the effort.
It will make for a better Azeroth.
佳莉娅·米奈希尔
has arrived to call your attention to a matter developing on Azeroth. It seems the Forsaken could use your help. (
洛丹伦的召唤
)
Calia Menethil
With the Shadowlands healing, it is time to turn our attention to matters close to home again, on Azeroth.
The Forsaken are mustering in the ruins of the kingdom of Lordaeron. They seek to reclaim as much as they can of the Tirisfal Glades, to finally put the destruction left by the Fourth War behind them.
And I intend to assist them in any way I can.
I also know that for the Horde, I have much to prove. Come, join me in Brill and we can help the Forsaken together.
Calia Menethil says: In the wake of the Fourth War, the Forsaken have begun to rebuild in Tirisfal Glades.
Calia Menethil says: Lordaeron is a land fraught with memories... and pain. I'm not certain what sort of welcome I'll receive, but I ask that you meet me there.
You are teleported to Tirisfal Glades, just outside the town of Brill. Here, you find Calia inside the Inn, along with
死亡猎手指挥官贝尔蒙特
, who does not seem to be taking kindly to her presence.
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: What have we here? The Menethil princess? Hmph.
Calia Menethil says: I have come to help as best I can, commander.
Calia Menethil
I was always fond of Brill.
Much remains to be done, but it is heartening to see the progress made in rebuilding here.
If you like, you may ask Calia more about the reasons why the Forsaken may reject her.
The people of Lordaeron have suffered greatly. I hope that I am able to find my home here among them, with the Forsaken.
Why wouldn't the Forsaken welcome you?
It begins with my name. I am Arthas Menethil's sister, and I was once a member of the royal house of Loraeron.
Though I was never intended to rule, and nor would I seek to.
Some might see me as seeking authority where I have none, or representing the Alliance when I do not. Or some hear the name 'Menethil' and are rightly horrified by my brother's actions.
But I am my own soul, and I have lost as much to the Scourge as any survivor of Lordaeron. All I wish now is to help.
Calia's first task is for you to help gather certain important Forsaken for a meeting. (
)
Calia Menethil
It's heartening to see progress has been made in rebuilding Brill, but this is only a first step. The ruins of the capital remain inaccessible because of the blight.
And here is where I hope you will aid the cause.
Restoring as much of the land as possible will require a gathering of minds all working toward a singular purpose.
A number of influential figures have risen to prominence among the Forsaken. Please help bring them together so we can meet and discuss the path forward.
You find
大药剂师法拉尼尔
, leader of the Royal Apothecary Society, just outside of Brill, where Blight still stains the land. He is observing one of his creations, a
Gargantuan Plague Eater
. You watch as the construct rushes into the Blight, but it is quickly overwhelmed and killed.
I long for the day when I and the Apothecaries can return to our experiments in the Undercity. What a waste.
Who are you?
Master Apothecary Faranell, at your service. Err, well, at the service of the Forsaken, naturally.
I am a patriarch of potions, artist of alchemy, maestro of mixtures. My concoctions and my laboratory are legendary! That is... when I had a real laboratory. But one thing at a time.
It's time to meet with the other Forsaken.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: Yes, yes, I will come. But first, behold as my creation eradicates the blight!
Master Apothecary Faranell says: You may applaud at any time.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: No! My beautiful construct! Dash it all, how can we hope to succeed now?!
Lore Spotlight: The Royal Apothecary Society
The Royal Apothecary Society is a Forsaken society of alchemists, created by Sylvanas Windrunner and tasked with, among other things, developing a new type of plague. Its former leader was Grand Apothecary Putress, who betrayed Sylvanas and the Horde when he used the new plague on both the living and undead at
the Wrathgate
.
The society has a reputation for unethical experimentation, and is widely mistrusted even in the Horde. However, it also has a reputation for genius - even if it tends to be of the evil genius variety.
You speak with
莉莉安·沃斯
, who you find in Brill's graveyard, explaining the situation to some Forsaken around her - including
阿玛利亚·斯通队长
and
德里克·普罗德摩尔
.
Lilian Voss says: And that's where we stand. Sylvanas is gone, and our homeland remains overrun with toxic blight.
This is a hard time for the Forsaken. It feels like we're always saying that, but it's true.
But we'll take care of ourselves, and not wait for anyone else to swoop in and save us. We have to stick together.
Who are you?
I'm Lilian Voss. Who I was before doesn't matter so much now, but it's taken me a while to get there. I've tried to help others who had a rough time as much as I can.
And I'll try not to disappoint them.
We have to make something of this world ourselves, because the world sure isn't going to give us anything.
Do you trust Calia?
I haven't decided yet. But I've got my eye on her.
It's time to meet with the other Forsaken.
Lilian Voss says: I will attend this gathering. After all, someone needs to make sure Calia gets a chance to speak up for herself.
The Proudmoores are traditionally Alliance. If you wish, you can ask Derek about his presence among the Forsaken.
At last, there is a place for me.
Why are you here?
My little sister Jaina introduced me to Calia after I unexpectedly... returned from the sea. Lady Calia has helped me confront what all this means now, with patience and grace. And I will stand with her to serve as I am able.
Lore Spotlight: Lilian Voss
Lilian Voss is a character who was first introduced in Cataclysm, and who played a major role in the Undead starting area. Players were first introduced to her as a new Undead, one struggling to come to terms with her existence. Lilian fled the Forsaken, insisting her still-living father, High Priest Benedictus Voss, would protect her. However, her father saw her as a monster and ordered to have her killed. This set Lilian on the path of revenge - killing not only her father, but working to destroy the Scarlet Crusade itself.
For many years, Lilian chose not to join the Forsaken - a right granted to her on the basis of the Forsaken belief in free will. It was only during Battle for Azeroth that she finally decided to join the Horde, and has been a major member of the Forsaken since.
Lore Spotlight: Derek Proudmoore
In life, Derek Proudmoore was the Jaina Proudmoore's brother, the eldest son of Daelin and Katherine Proudmoore. Derek died in battle with the Horde during the Second War, a tragedy from which his father never fully recovered, and which helped contribute to Daelin's absolute loathing of the Horde.
Derek's body was found by the Horde during the Fourth War. Seeing the opportunity to cause distress to the Proudemoores, Sylvanas commanded he be raised as a Forsaken and be forced to serve as a weapon against his former family. However, he was rescued from this fate thanks to the intervention of Baine Bloodhoof. Though he reunited briefly with Jaina, the fact that he was Undead meant Derek could not simply return to the Alliance - nor could he easily join the Forsaken under Sylvanas's rule. Eventually, he was brought to Calia, who has similarly been stuck between the Alliance and Horde. Derek has since shown his dedication to Calia, choosing to stay by her side even after Sylvanas leaving the Horde meant that he could safely join the Forsaken.
黑暗游侠维罗娜拉
is willing to meet with Calia, on the condition that you help fight off some of the Blighted that have been attacking the Forsaken. (
)
Dark Ranger Velonara
The plague unleashed during the war has tainted the land and disturbed the dead. That is to say, more so than they already were.
We have worked hard to rebuild, but our people cannot complete their efforts while under threat.
My first duty is to ensure the safety of the Forsaken. I will meet with the others as Calia requests, but first you must help me eradicate some of these Blighted.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: wI will join the meeting. But we must ensure that the outskirts of Brill are secure.
After you've helped with the threat, Velonara is willing to talk a little more about the Forsaken and Calia.
Our quivers must remain full. Even thought our direction is unclear.
Who are you?
I am Velonara, former ranger of the Quel'dorei. I served under Ranger-General Sylvanas Windrunner, and I served the Banshee Queen in death.
I am loyal to the Forsaken and the Horde, and will use my bow in their defense for as long as I have strength.
How do you feel about Calia?
Some might also ask if the Dark Rangers are to be trusted, as well. We were Sylvanas' closest cohorts, and even we were left behind.
I have declared my allegiance to the Forsaken. Calia should be given the opportunity to prove the same.
Dark Ranger Velonara
That should give our guards some breathing room. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
Thank you for the help, <name>.
Lore Spotlight: Dark Ranger Velonara
As a Dark Ranger, Velonara served with Sylvanas as one of her rangers in life, died with her as they tried to protect Quel'Thalas from Arthas Menethil's Scourge invasion, and was later resurrected by her as a Darkfallen.
Like all Sylvanas's Dark Rangers, Velonara is an elite and accomplished fighter, and was fiercely loyal to her Banshee Queen. During Legion, it was Velonara who represented the Dark Rangers at Trueshot Lodge, the Hunter Order Hall. When Sylvanas left the Horde, Velonara remained behind, reaffirming her loyalty to the Blood Elves and Forsaken.
Once everyone is assembled, you meet up with them in Brill's Inn.
Lilian Voss
Looks like we're ready to get started.
I don't think there have been this many Forsaken in one place since... well, Darkshore.
But we are in our own lands now, and it's time we take care of our own.
The meeting is ready to begin. (
凋零会议
)
Lilian Voss
We, the Forsaken, have been through a lot since the destruction of Lordaeron. But we're determined to keep our home.
Why should we give up what we've fought so hard to carve out for ourselves?
Calia is still a relative newcomer in some ways, but obviously she's known to our people. How could she not be, as the sister of Arthas himself?
I hope we can move forward, and that she can really help. Her voice could be a powerful one, if she is really truly committed to the people.
Master Apothecary Faranell's plague eaters might help against the Blight, but they'd need modifications. Calia suggests Maldraxxus might have knowledge that could make them more effective.
Let's begin.
Lilian Voss says: All right. What are we going to do about the plague in Undercity?
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: Don't you mean what are we going to do about her?
Dark Ranger Velonara says: We should focus on the blight. Faranell, do you have any more of your plague eaters?
Master Apothecary Faranell says: This is my last one, and it's a puny thing. I can make more, but to be effective, they must be formulated to survive the plague!
Calia Menethil says: If I may... our allies in the Shadowlands might be able to provide insight. In particular, the plague-lords of Maldraxxus.
Faranell will also need a pure sample of the Blight. Calia volunteers to fetch it - leaving Belmont and Faranell quite amused.
What do you propose?
Calia Menethil says: Master Apothecary, what do you need to make your creation stronger?
Master Apothecary Faranell says: Nothing less than a pure, undiluted sample of that plague. From deep within its reaches.
Calia Menethil says: Very well. I will help acquire that sample for you.
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: That is one solution.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: She won't succeed.
Calia Menethil
I expected that my presence might cause friction. But I'm grateful to Lilian for her mediation, and for giving me the chance to show that I am committed to helping the Forsaken people.
But now, I must prove it.
Calia asks if you will help her. She can cast a shield of Holy Light to keep you both safe as you collect the sample. (
)
Calia Menethil
I promised that I would help, and I shall. We need that pure sample of the plague afflicting Lordaeron, but we cannot put anyone else at risk.
Come with me. I will call forth a shield of Holy Light to safeguard us deep into the blighted area so that we can collect that sample.
This spell will require my full focus. I'll trust you to protect us from anything that might try to stop us.
Are you with me?
The plan works, and the watching Forsaken can't help but be impressed.
<Calia stares out across the field of plague. Her hands tremble slightly.>
Let's get that plague sample.
Calia Menethil says: Stay close and be wary. I can't hold back the ffects of the blight for long, and we don't know what threats are lurking out there.
Calia Menethil says: The toxicity is... overwhelming.
Calia Menethil says: This should be far enough. Hurry, get the sample!
Calia Menethil says: That's it! We need to get back. My shield is starting to fail.
Calia Menethil says: Keep fighting! We're almost there!
Lilian Voss says: Well I'll be.
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: She... did it. And survived.
Lilian Voss
That's something you don't see every day.
Lilian volunteers to journey with you and Calia to Maldraxxus. (
咨询盟友
)
Calia Menethil says: We have the blight sample. Now to bring it to the plague-lords of Maldraxxus.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: I hope you're right about their expertise, Lady Menethil. This could give us a fighting chance to restore the city.
Lilian Voss says: I'll accompany Calia along with our friend here. Faranell, we'll need to bring your last plague eater with us, too.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: Do be careful with it! Should these plague-lords bolster its resilience, the Apothecaries can replicate it many times over.
Lilian Voss
I hope Calia is right about these lords of Maldraxxus. That they know how to deal with this sort of powerful plague.
We've only got one plague eater left, too, but Faranell says he can replicate more of them as long as they're strong enough to survive.
Let's get to the Shadowlands.
You head to the necropolis Exoramas, above the House of Rituals, where you find Lilian and Calia already speaking with
辛达妮侯爵
.
Calia Menethil says: We are grateful for your aid, Margrave.
Margrave Sin'dane says: Ah, Maw Walker. I sensed you had a part to play in this. Step forward.
Margrave Sin'dane
You carry a rather nasty example of the unchecked and unfettered ambition of a plague-maker.
I trust the creator of this monstrosity has already been pured. What would you ask of the houses of Maldraxxus?
Sin'dane tells you that
Plague Deviser Marileth
is most likely to be able to help you. (
凋零密院
)
Margrave Sin'dane
The one with the knowledge you seek is a survivor of the House of Plagues. You already know him.
Plague Deviser Marileth may not be the most lucid of conversationalists, but he will know what to do with your plague.
Find him near the ruins of that fallen house. But be wary! Many things lurking there could end your existence without a hint of concern.
Before you leave, Calia takes a moment to ask Sin'dane about the nature of her existence.
Calia Menethil says: Before I take my leave, Margrave, may I speak to you on the nature of undeath?
Margrave Sin'dane says: You will find no one with greater knowledge on the subject than I, mortal. Proceed.
Calia Menethil says: The Forsaken were raised through necromancy, and this shared origin has provided them a sense of unity.
Calia Menethil says: I, however, was raised by the Light. That difference has caused me to wonder if I can ever truly find a place among them.
Margrave Sin'dane says: Necromancy is the art of animating unliving flesh. Here in Maldraxxus, we use the magic of Death to accomplish our craft.
Margrave Sin'dane says: But whether these rituals are empowered by Death or Light or any other magic, necromancy is necromancy. You perceive a difference where there is none, child.
Calia Menethil says: Then perhaps I have found my purpose...
Calia Menethil says: Thank you, Margrave. Your perspective has been a great help.
Marileth is always happy to see you.
Lilian Voss says: We brought this tiny plague eater. Can you make it stronger?
Plague Deviser Marileth
Hello, my favorite apprentice!
Say, you look a tad wan. Are you certain you're getting enough sleep?
He agrees to examine the plague sample to see what can be done to help. He suggests you feed the plague eater any plague you come across. (
魔药营养
)
Plague Deviser Marileth
Your little friend there looks hungry! Not to worry, I know just what to feed it. Soon it will grow big and strong and be able to eat all the plague it can.
There are various concoctions nearby that will give it bolstering properties. And every color is a different flavor!
I will take the plague sample you brought me deeper into the House of Plagues, to see what else we can learn. Meet me there, and let your plague eater dine in style!
Plague Deviser Marileth says: Everything you need can be found in the House of Plagues! Let's get this sample of yours ready for testing.
Lilian Voss says: Did he just walk into...? Never mind, I'd better give him some cover. Meet you farther in!
Calia Menethil says: I will call upon the Light to shield you from the caustic fog. Be careful.
With each new concoction, the plague eater grows and changes.
Calia suggests you also feed the plague eater on the slime creatures within the House of Plagues. (
喂食吞食者
)
Calia Menethil
The House of Plagues has suffered calamity, much like Lordaeron. I hope that our work and effort here will reverse some of that destruction.
But first, we must reach farther into the House of Plagues so we can strengthen the capabilities of Faranell's plague eater.
Any slime or creature you slay will surely help it gain fortitude.
The Blight sample turns out to be more feisty than Marileth expected, and it attacks him.
Plague Deviser Marileth says: While you bolster your little friend, I'll see what I can learn about your plague sample...
Plague Deviser Marileth says: My oh my, what a pernicious little strain! Let's give it some body and study its characteristics.
Plague Deviser Marileth says: What? Ouch!
Lilian Voss says: Blast it, the plague sample turned on him. Hurry and get over here.
Plague Deviser Marileth
Did you see that What a fearsome plague sample you brought me!
It hit me in the head and quite nearly killed your friends, apprentice. Marvelous!
Calia Menethil
The Plague Eater is looking so much stronger already. I think Master Apothecary Faranell would be pleased.
You're going to need to bring down the manifested plague creature. (
魔药化形
)
Plague Deviser Marileth
What a nasty little plague you've brought me, apprentice. Must've been concocted by a true sadist.
To study the sample, I gave it form. But the ungrateful thing turned on me and attacked, completely unprovoked!
It's shuffled a bit further on into the House. I hate to say it, but I believe this one must be put down before it is allowed to grow any stronger... or larger.
Look on the bright side. If your plague eater manages to survive, it'll be attuned to your particularly terrible form of blight.
Plague Deviser Marileth says: That plague sample you brought put up quite a fight! I'm afraid you'll have to deal with it now.
Lilian Voss says: Take the plague eater with you. If it survives that monstrosity, we'll know we've got the right formula.
As you kill the
Lordaeron Blight
, your plague eater grows and transforms yet again.
Lilian Voss
Despite all the trouble that sample gave us, I think I actually have a little bit of hope now.
The plague eater is ready, and you can return to Brill. (
返回布瑞尔
)
Lilian Voss
We've strengthened our plague eater, and now it looks ready to take on a much, much bigger meal.
Let's get it back to Faranell. He said he can replicate its properties and disperse plague eaters all across the ruins.
Then maybe, just maybe, we can set foot in our home again.
Here, take my hearthstone. It'll bring you back to Brill.
Lilian Voss says: Calia and I will get the plague eater to the Apothecaries. Use my hearthstone and meet us back in Tirisfal.
Plague Deviser Marileth says: It was wonderful seeing you again, my apprentice. Do remember to visit!
You use
莉莉安的炉石
and return to Faranell, who is very pleased to see how big and healthy his plague eater is now.
Checking in. What's next?
Master Apothecary Faranell says: We have replicated and loaded my improved plague eaters! We are ready to deploy.
Calia Menethil says: Master Apothecary, you should know that the blight sample we took to Maldraxxus took form and became aggressive.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: Really? Hmm, I suppose that should make it easier to kill. Ingenious! Wish I'd thought of that.
Master Apothecary Faranell
Wonderful! Not only did you manage not to lose my plague eater, you brought it back stronger than ever!
Now, witness the genius and rapidity of my machines. There will be more than enough plague eaters to spread across the surface of the Undercity.
Now that you are able to replicate as many plague eaters as you want, all that's left is to deploy them. (
)
Calia Menethil
The time has come. By the Light, I pray our plan works.
Master Apothecary Faranell's wagons have reproduced the plague eater many times over, and the bats are ready to deploy them.
If you see a place where our forces could spread even more of the remedy, you can signal them with a flare.
Take to the skies, and let's put an end to this blight. For Lordaeron, and for the Forsaken.
Calia Menethil says: All our efforts have come to this. I pray our strategy works.
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: My forces will join you in the skies to help with any unforeseen... side effects.
You mount a shadowbat and use it to deploy plague eaters from the air. For some reason, they start to gather at the center of Lordaeron. Before you know it, they've gathered together into a giant
Amalgam
created from all the Blight of Lordaeron.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: It's working! The plague eaters are consuming the blight!
Lilian Voss says: They've eaten their fill, and now they're... gathering up in the middle of the ruins?
Master Apothecary Faranell says: Keep going! Whatever happens, we will be ready!
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: The plague eaters have merged ito a gigantic monstrosity! Kill it! Kill it now!
Thankfully, bringing the creature down finally cleans the Blight from the area.
Lilian Voss says: We did it! What a fight! Meet us down in the courtyard now that the ruins are clearing.
Lilian Voss
We did it. By working together, we've cleared the surface level of the deadly plague cloud.
It will take more time to clean up the lower reaches of the Undercity, but it's a fine start.
Despite fears, Calia will not become the new leader of the Forsaken, but she will join a new council of leadership called the Desolate Council. (
荒芜议会
)
Lilian Voss
By combining our knowledge and expertise, we've restored the surface of the Undercity to the Forsaken.
It was only possible by setting aside our distrust and acting for the good of our people. Now it's time to make this council official.
We are no longer the same undead that followed and served Sylvanas Windrunner. From here on, we lead ourselves, with the same spirit of independence and pride we've had since we reclaimed our free will.
It's time for a new future, with new leadership.
Lilian Voss says: No more excuses. No more Banshee Queen. The Forsaken have many different points of view, and we should be led by a council, not a single ruler.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: My fellow dark rangers and I are with you.
Deathstalker Commander Belmont says: Are we really going to trust a Menethil on the council?
Calia Menethil says: I cannot escape the shadows of my past, but I have no desire for a throne. My place here is among you, and I vow to serve all our people.
Master Apothecary Faranell says: I take you at your word, Lady Menethil. And we, the Apothecaries, will help shape our brighter future.
Lilian Voss says: Then it's settled. We are the Desolate Council. We are the Forsaken.
Calia Menethil
I am greatly honored that they have accepted me as part of the new leadership of the Forsaken.
I swear that I will do my best to protect and preserve the people, no matter where they came from, or what form of undeath has created them.
Velonara sees past your disguise, but she is not angry. Instead, she tells you that Alliance Darkfallen will still be welcome among their ranks. (
)
Dark Ranger Velonara
<Velonara peers at you knowingly.>
It was a fair disguise, but I saw at once that you were not who you claimed to be.
Regardless, you risked your life to aid us. I will not forget that.
There are those among the kaldorei raised by Sylvanas' val'kyr who wish to return to their own. If Tyrande would have them back, they are free to go. The rest will be welcome in the ranks of the dark rangers.
In recognition for your service to us, I offer this gift.
Traditionally, Dark Rangers have been loyal to Sylvanas. No longer. (
)
Dark Ranger Velonara
For years, we dark rangers worked as agents of the Banshee Queen. Now, under the leadership of the new Forsaken council. we serve a greater cause: shaping our people's future.
We cannot be certain what lies ahead. But I vow that the dark rangers will do everything in our power to defend this kingdom.
Your aid was crucial in helping us cleanse the ruins of Lordaeron. Take this, with our thanks.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: When we darkfallen elves were raised into undeath, Silvermoon shunned us. All that we knew, all that we loved, had been lost.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: In time, we found a place here within the ruins of Lordaeron. But after it was blighted in the war, we feared we had lost this home, too.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: Today we not only reclaimed our legacy, we began a new path forward. And for aiding our cause, we owe you a great debt.
Dark Ranger Velonara says: Together with all the Forsaken, we will build a new future here. You will always be welcome among the dark rangers, friend.
Al diel shala. Farewell.

Calia Menethil
Thank you for all of your assistance, leading to this historic moment.
I believe there may be others who are interested in what happened here. Please, carry this letter, and my well wishes, when you return to them.
Calia Menethil says: So many memories...
The letter can be read.
King Greymane,
The ally you sent to aid us was most effective, and in return for your patience, I offer welcome news.
With the formation of the new Desolate Council, one of the first topics I propose is the withdrawal of Forsaken troops from the kingdom of Gilneas. In time I hope that we may come closer to agreement, and see both lands into a brighter future.
Warm Regards,

Reclaiming these ruins means a lot to the Forsaken. Especially since the war ended, our people have needed something to hold onto, to give us purpose in the wake of everything that's happened to us.
I saw Calia walk toward the throne room. That place holds many memories for her. Many ghosts.
We should check on her.
Cinematic Analysis: The Future of the Forsaken
When Horde players follow Calia into the throne room, a cinematic plays.
The scene opens on Lordaeron's throne room. Calia Menethil stands near the center of the room, and footsteps echo through the room as Lilian Voss approaches her. Almost immediately, we're put in mind of previous important scenes in this room - the
footsteps that rang out as Arthas entered the room
on his return to Lordaeron during the events of Warcraft III, and
Baine's footsteps as he confronted Sylvanas
at the end of the Battle for Lordaeron.
Though this time is different - there will be no conflict or bloodshed here today - the presence of tragedy in this room is still strong. Calia says as much as she reflects on the Fall of Lordaeron, the day when Arthas - Calia's brother - murdered their father, King Terenas, and unleashed the Scourge on their own city.
Calia: Within this hall we shared ceremonies. Celebrations.
Calia: And tragedy.
Calia: I loved my family.
Calia: And on one fateful day, I lost them all.
Calia: Now, I am all that remains of the once-proud Menethil line.
Calia: The last heir to a legacy that ended in shame.
Calia mentions "one fateful day" when she lost her whole family, but not everyone she loved and called family was lost to her at the Fall of Lordaeron.
For many years, it was assumed Calia died in the Scourge attack on Lordaeron. However, though it was a traumatic experience, she managed to escape to Southshore in Hillsbrad Foothills, where she lived for some time with her husband - a common footman who she had married in secret - and their daughter. In the Christie Golden novel
Before the Storm
, Calia tells Anduin that she was separated from her husband and child after Southshore was attacked by blight - she has never seen them since. It's assumed they died during this attack - though for a while Calia hoped she would find they had become Forsaken.
While it's possible Calia could have been referring to a Scourge attack when she told her story, Southshore was destroyed by the Forsaken with blight during the events of Cataclysm. This means Calia Menethil was potentially living happily with her husband and daughter in Southshore until her life was ripped apart for a second time during Cataclysm - the same expansion that introduced Lilian Voss.
Raised by her father High Priest Benedictus Voss to be a weapon against the undead, Lilian's reality was turned upside down when she died and was raised into undeath herself. At first unwilling to accept her fate, Lilian attempted to seek refuge with her father - but he just saw her as a monster and ordered her execution. Lilian began a quest of righteous revenge, killing many of her former comrades and finally executing her father.
At first, Lilian did not join the Forsaken - nor was she required to. However, she finally joined the Horde during
BFA
, and seems to have found meaning in her new allegiances. As she explains to Calia, the Forsaken are her family now.
Lilian: So you ran away from the pain.
Lilian: I did too.
Lilian: But it was only when I stopped running that I understood...
Lilian: Those people out there...they're my family now.
Calia asks the question that has clearly been plaguing her - will the Forsaken ever accept her. The worry is clear on her face as she asks - and as she looks to Lilian, her expression is almost one of pleading. She is frightened that she will be rejected.
Calia: But will they ever truly accept me?
Calia: Bearing a name forever stained by a brother's sins...
Calia: Just as these flagstones are stained by my father's blood.
Calia has a reason to fear. The question she asks is one that transcends the story. In-game, many Forsaken reject Calia. In the quests leading up to this cinematic, we see how many Forsaken hate Calia for her Menethil name - associating her with the brother who doomed them to their fate. We see how they mistrust her, worrying that she will try to claim a right to rule - as the last known "surviving" Menethil, she is technically the heir to Lordaeron.
However, these are the concerns of players as well, particularly voiced by many Forsaken players. Even when Calia has stated she does not wish to rule the Forsaken, there is some cause to worry she will be thrust on the Forsaken anyway as a replacement for Sylvanas. It doesn't help that certain parallels have been drawn - for example, while Lilian Voss's new title simply shows she's a member of the
Desolate Council
, Calia is now called
"The Pallid Lady"
, a title too similar to Sylvanas's title of "The Dark Lady" to feel coincidental. Derek Proudmoore, meanwhile, is now the
"Champion of the Pallid Lady"
- echoing Sylvanas's own champion, Nathanos.
This has caused a certain amount of suspicion and resistance to any involvement Calia has with the Forsaken's story, even if her character is as much of an undead searching for acceptance as Forsaken traditionally are.
As she references her father's blood, Calia points to the blood stain in Lordaeron's throne room. Though the stain is still there, a hint of an answer to Calia's question may be found in the game's ambient track.
Before the Battle for Lordaeron, going into the throne room and turning Ambience up to 100% would allow players to hear the
whispered echoes of Arthas murdering his father
. After Lordaeron was destroyed by blight, it became impossible to survive for any length of time in the throne room. However, after cleaning up part of Lordaeron during the 9.2.5 questline preceding this cinematic, it's possible to stand in the throne room without dying again. Now, if you turn Ambience up to 100%, you might notice the echoes are gone.
While it is possible these echoes may come back, it is also possible that the ghosts that haunt Lordaeron are beginning to disappear - and that it's finally going to be the time to look to the future rather than the past.
Calia may be a Lightforged Forsaken, but she is still Forsaken. She has lost her family. She has been hurt - by the Scourge, by blight - by her own death. Even now, she is rejected by those who should understand her most - who know what it's like to be judged by their appearances and the things they cannot control.
For her part, Lilian seems to be prepared to offer Calia the chance for a home with the Forsaken. Like Calia, her own journey has been very different to most. Lilian was never around for the establishment of Undercity, and was never particularly enamored with Sylvanas. But with Sylvanas gone, Lilian represents exactly the sort of future that the Forsaken must look to - one that finds meaning and purpose without their Banshee Queen.
Without any queen at all, in fact. Calia will not be ruling the Forsaken. Instead, she will be one of many who sit on a council. At their core, the Forsaken are a people who seek acceptance and a place in a world that rejects them. Once, many might have felt that it was Sylvanas who gave them that acceptance, Sylvanas who carved that place out for them. Now, they have to be that for each other.
Lilian: We are all the same here, Calia.
Lilian: Seeking our place, despite everything we've lost.
Lilian: But it's a long road, and we will need your help.
Calia: Then... let us find our place together.
Lilian: As Forsaken.
You bring Calia's letter to Genn Greymane in Oribos. He is surprised but pleased to hear her plans to end Forsaken attacks on Gilneas.
Calia Menethil says: King Greymane, the ally you sent to aid us was most effective, and in return for your patience, I offer a gesture of good will.
Calia Menethil says: With the formation of the new Desolate Council, one of the first topics I propose is the withdrawal of Forsaken troops from Gilnean lands.
Calia Menethil says: The effort will take time, but I believe that we will come to an accord,a nd that both our kingdoms will see a brighter future.
Genn Greymane says: Well... this is welcome news. I find myself surprised in a pleasant way, for the first time in a long while.
Genn Greymane says: Let us all hope that the future is indeed brighter.
Genn Greymane
They did WHAT?
And Calia has proposed a discussion on the return of Gilneas?
Your ability astounds me, <name>. Well done.
At long last, Calia feels at home.
Calia Menethil
Thank you, <name>. You have helped so much.
From here, I believe the Forsaken will rebuild and solidify their identity. Not just as former denizens of Lordaeron, but as their own people. A people I am proud to be one of.
A Gift of Hope

Greetings, Maw Walker.
I bear a summons from the Winter Queen. She requests your presence in to witness a ceremony involving others from your world.
Shandris Feathermoon will be among them. You can find her in the Grove of Awakening.
You head to the Grove of Awakening, where you find
Ysera
,
Tyrande Whisperwind
, and
Shandris Feathermoon
. They, too, have been summoned to meet with the Queen.
Shandris Feathermoon
The Winter Queen awaits our presence, <name>.
I am ready to meet with her.
Cinematic Analysis: The Queen's Gift
Once you speak with Shandris, a cinematic plays.
The cinematic opens with the Winter Queen addressing Tyrande. The Winter Queen asks Tyrande if she found the justice that she was seeking when she first came to Ardenweald.
Winter Queen: Tyrande Whisperwind.
Winter Queen: You came to my realm in pursuit of justice.
Winter Queen: Did you find it?
Though Tyrande journeyed to the Shadowlands at the same time as we did, she did not arrive in Ardenweald until the Battle for Ardenweald, the first chapter of Chains of Domination, Patch 9.1's storyline. Tyrande arrived in pursuit of Sylvanas, and was
willing to give her own life
in exchange for the power that she would need to defeat the Banshee Queen. For a moment, it seemed like she would get her wish - but Elune retracted her power at the last minute, leaving Tyrande unconscious - but still alive. Later, during the Power of Night, we learned that Elune had acted to save Tyrande's life.
Straight away, Tyrande corrects the Winter Queen, echoing a sentiment that we have witnessed many times in the Shadowlands - that she was not seeking justice, but vengeance.
Tyrande: I came here seeking vengeance.
This has obvious parallels to Uther Lightbringer's story - while Uther told himself sending Arthas directly to the Maw was an act of justice, he later came to realize he was motivated by revenge.
Uther says: Devos convinced me that my death was wrong. She promised me justice.
Uther says: What we did to him was not justice. It was vengeance.
However, even though Uther may have initially been motivated by revenge, his questioning of the Kyrian path ultimately led to a better future for all of the Kyrian.
Uther did regret throwing Arthas into the Maw. He, and most of the Kyrian, came to realize they were being used as pawns by the Jailer - that they were working for the Maw without even knowing about it - and that their allies in the Maw had no interest in the justice of their cause, the Jailer only wanted to exploit them.
Even so, none of that invalidated the Forsworn's problems with the Kyrain Path. The Archon herself came to realize they had valid complaints, and that the Kyrian Path
should
be questioned after all. As a result, the Path was changed - the tenet of Loyalty replaced by Devotion. While Uther was not seeking justice, he ultimately helped the Forsworn find it anyway.
In the same way, Tyrande may not have been seeking justice - but she found it anyway. When Sylvanas submitted to the judgment of Tyrande Whisperwind, it was under the guidance of Pelagos, new Arbiter of the Shadowlands. Pelagos - who now holds the power of the Arbiter - is the paragon of justice in the Shadowlands, and he encouraged Sylvanas himself to declare Tyrande her judge.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: The Jailer did not control me. My actions were mine alone, and I accept their consequences.
Arbiter Pelagos says: Then... you know in your heart, to whom you must answer.
Sylvanas Windrunner says: I submit to the judgment... of Tyrande Whisperwind.
In this scene, the Winter Queen did not ask Tyrande simply if she found justice - but if she found justice in Ardenweald. Tyrande's correction highlights that any justice she has found was neither sought for or found in Ardenweald. In Ardenweald sepcifically, she found something else.
For a long time, Tyrande's relationship with Elune has taken on a more sinister form.
The Night Warrior power draws from the phase of the New Moon
, when the moon is entirely dark. Tyrande has also seemed increasingly frustrated with Elune, wondering why the moon goddess didn't intervene to save the Night Elves at Teldrassil, or why Elune withdrew her power just before Tyrande gained the killing blow on Sylvanas. But here, she refers to the "light of Elune". This, alone, indicates the change in Tyrande, and the return to hope. Her relationship with her goddess is once again one of faith and light.
As for the Winter Queen, her relationship with Elune has also been healed. The Winter Queen believed her sister had abandoned her, but through Tyrande, came to understand that wasn't true.
Tyrande: But within these groves, and by the light of Elune, I found something I feared lost.
Tyrande: Hope.
Winter Queen: And thanks to that choice, a sisters' bond once broken has been mended.
It should be noted, there is still something strange about Elune. The goddess does not seem as all-knowing or all-powerful as she perhaps should be - unable even to communicate with her sister properly. The abandonment the Night Elves and the Winter Queen both felt still raises concerns, but at least there is hope that Elune is as loving and trustworthy as they previously believed her to be.
The Winter Queen produces the seed that she and Elune created together.
Even before she learned that Elune had not betrayed her, the Winter Queen opened Ardenweald to any Night Elf souls that were brought there. Night Fae players helped rescue many souls that died in Teldrassil from Torghast. Later, the Winter Queen hinted that a special purpose awaited the Night Elf souls.
Shandris Feathermoon says: The Winter Queen spoke of a purpose for the souls of our people. What did she mean?
Tyrande Whisperwind says: That, Elune did not tell me, daughter. Not yet.
Here, we finally see that purpose. In a scene reminiscent of Warcraft 3, the Night Elf souls transform into wisps and begin flooding into the seed. There are several reasons why this parallel is so powerful.
Winter Queen: This tear was born of sorrow.
Winter Queen: Now it shall become a vessel of renewal.
Winter Queen: These souls were saved from the darkness of the Maw.
Winter Queen: Unto them, I have offered eternal tranquility in the boughs of Ardenweald.
Winter Queen: They have chosen instead to become part of a new beginning for their kin.
During the Battle for Mount Hyjal, when Archimonde began to climb the World Tree Nordrassil, all hope seemed lost. The Defiler would consume the World Tree's powers and rip it from the Well of Eternity. He was stopped only because the souls of Night Elves - thousands of wisps - sacrificed themselves by swarming him until he was overwhelmed, and detonating. This also greatly harmed Nordrassil and damaged the Night Elf race - who lost their immortality - but Azeroth was saved.
Later, the Night Elves would fine hope in the growing of Teldrassil, a new World Tree. And though Teldrassil is now destroyed, the reference is clear. Though the Night Elves have suffered a great loss, all hope is not lost - and a new World Tree can be grown again.
What's more, these wisps do not detonate. No enemy is being killed here, and nothing is being destroyed. Instead, the wisps infuse the seed with their own life.
As the Winter Queen explains the seed embodies the cycle of death and life, it is a promise that from death - the death of the Night Elves at Teldrassil - will come life. We have been to the Shadowlands.
We have experienced the "death" part of the cycle. Next
will
come life - this is the Winter Queen's promise, and gift.
Winter Queen: This seed embodies the cycle of death and life.
Winter Queen: I offer it to you, Tyrande Whisperwind.
Winter Queen: May it bring your people happiness and peace.
As Tyrande presses her forehead to the seed, we hear a heartbeat. Once again driving in the point that these souls have not been destroyed - they are alive, and finding purpose in the hope and promise of life that they bring to their people.
Tyrande's final words, "Andu-falah-dor", means "Let the balance be restored".
Tyrande: On behalf of all the kaldorei, I thank you.
Tyrande: Andu-falah-dor.
At the moment, Azeroth is still carrying the scars of the Fourth War - but with this patch, we are seeing the signs of healing. It seems clear that this seed will be used to once again create a World Tree for the Night Elves, restoring the balance that was lost with Teldrassil's burning.
Shandris Feathermoon
The Winter Queen's gift... what we just witnessed...
Shandris's eyes glisten with tears of hope.
We must ask Ysera to help us keep this precious seed safe.
Conversation: Ysera's Future
Before you leave, you may wish to stay around and listen as Tyrande, Ysera, and Shandris discuss the events and the future. During this conversation, Tyrande asks Ysera to help look after the seed. Ysera knows the perfect place to keep it safe, but the location is somewhere on Azeroth. She tells Tyrande to bring the seed to her daughter, Merithra, who we already know is
likely to play a major role in Dragonflight
.
At this, Shandris Feathermoon asks Ysera if she won't be returning to Azeroth. Ysera explains that she can't. While usually, a soul like hers would merely rest in Ardenweald until it was ready to be reborn, Ysera's soul was bound to Ardenweald when the Winter Queen rescued her - she is unable to leave.
However, for the first time, the story has hinted at some hope that Ysera may return to Azeroth one day. She mentions that it is possible, but it would take a "great sacrifice". Tyrande is ready to make whatever sacrifice is necessary, but Ysera gently refuses, stating that she will return one day, but only "if Elune wills it".
Tyrande Whisperwind: The Winter Queen called her gift a seed. Ysera, my beloved friend, could it truly be so?
Ysera says: Yes. I sense this seed is touched by the Dream as well as by Ardenweald. A symbol of the crucial balance between life and death.
Ysera says: I know of a place it can be protected, but... it has been so long...
Ysera says: Bring the seed to my daughter. Merithra will know where it should be taken.
Shandris Feathermoon says: Are you not returning to Azeroth with us? Surely the Winter Queen will allow you to--
Ysera says: When the queen used her own essence to revive me from the wildseed, it bound my soul to this realm.
Ysera says: I cannot leave it. Not without great sacrifice.
Tyrande Whisperwind: Then tell us the price, and it shall be paid.
Ysera says: No, my friends. The kaldorei need you beside them once more.
Ysera says: If Elune wills it, I will soar through Azeroth's skies again... one day.

Lady Liadrin
Greetings, <name>.
Let us not mince words--you are urgently needed in Silvermoon.
We're experiencing a resurgence of Scourge in Quel'thalas. With nothing to hold the Scourge in check, we'll soon be overrun. We must hold the line!
Meet me in the Hall of Blood, and we will get you a full briefing.
Lore Spotlight: No More Lich King
During Secrets of the First Ones, the story of Patch 9.2, we helped the Primus reforge the broken shards of the Helm of Domination into the Crown of Wills. By transforming it into an instrument of free will, we ensured a Lich King would never again reign in Icecrown.
However, we the Scourge now running free, we are seeing the after-effects of that decision.
You meet Liadrin in Farstrider Square, along with
Lor'themar Theron
, the Regent Lord of Quel'Thalas,
Archmage Aethas Sunreaver
of the Kirin Tor, and
Grand Magister Rommath
.
Lady Liadrin
Good, you made it.
Let us begin.
Liadrin invites you to listen to the briefing. (
军报
)
Lady Liadrin
We haven't much time.
The Scourge have attacked Tranquillien, and there's nothing to hold them back.
We must take decisive action.
The Scourge on Tranquillien seems organized - and threatens to overrun the town. Since forces are needed urgently, Liadrin authorizes sending those still in training to help. Aethas and the Grand Magister agree, and leave through a portal.
Lor'themar Theron says: These reports are alarming, Lady Liadrin. Tranquillien is in danger of being overrun by Scourge?
Aethas Sunreaver says: Their forces appear far too organized for this to be some random attack.
Aethas Sunreaver says: Perhaps we should request additional aid from our Horde allies.
Grand Magister Rommath says: And waste more time awaiting their arrival? No. We must address this at once.
Lady Liadrin says: Then we most call up those still in training. We will hold the line and keep Quel'thalas safe. I swear it.
Grand Magister Rommath says: Very well. I will open the way and meet you in Tranquillien.
Lor'themar lingers behind, unsure about Liadrin's decision, but she eases his concerns. He leaves, and Liadrin's adopted daughter, Salandria arrives, complaining at the lack of trust in her and eager to prove herself.
Lor'themar Theron says: Lady Liadrin... are you sure about bringing up trainees to fight? This is no mere training exercise.
Lady Liadrin says: I am. You will find their skills are more than adequate, but I shall let their performance prove it. They are ready.
Lor'themar Theron says: I look forward to good news, then. May the eternal sun guide you, Liadrin.
Salandria says: UGH--finally! It feels as if I've been in training for ages. Send me to Tranquillien!
Lady Liadrin says: Salandria... This will be no easy task. More will be expected of you than any other.
Salandria says: Then I should prove myself, right? You said it yourself--we'll hold the line and keep Quel'thalas safe. I intend to do just that!
Lady Liadrin
We don't have time to waste.
Lore Spotlight: Salandria
Salandria is Lady Liadrin's adopted daughter, First introduced during the Burning Crusade's version of
Children's Week
, players actually spent some time with Salandria while she was still a child in Shattrath City's orphanage.
Salandria has a particularly interesting prophecy about her. During a quest where players take her to the Caverns of Time, some of the Wardens of Time prepare to attack her. They're stopped by the bronze dragon Zaladormu, who berates the wardens for attempting to punish the child for something she "might do, or fail to do, in the future".
Zaladormu yells: WAIT!
Zaladormu yells: This girl has done nothing, and will not be held accountable for what she might do, or fail to do, in the future.
Zaladormu yells: Go in peace, child.
Afterwards, when players give Salandria a toy dragon, she makes a comment about how she plans to own a real dragon one day.
Awesome! A dragon of my very own! Someday I plan to own a real one.
<Salandria slyly eyes her new toy, the gears within her mind turning.>
With Dragonflight on its way, and Salandria's sudden appearance in 9.2.5, we can't help but wonder if we might finally see more about this prophecy soon.
Liadrin invites you to take the portal to Tranquillien with her. (
塔奎林的围攻
)
Lady Liadrin
Rommath has opened the way for us to quickly travel to Tranquillien. I warn you, it's already a bloody battlefield.
Take the portal, and I will be along right after you.
And <name>... keep an eye on Salandria. She may have excelled in her training thus far, but she has yet to be tested like this.
You arrive to find the town is already overrun with Scourge. Liadrin runs ahead, and you meet up with her in one of the town's buildings, protected by an arcane barrier.
Lady Liadrin says: By the Light! Quickly, get into town!
Lady Liadrin
Not a moment too soon.
Let's get to work.
Liadrin seems shaken - she hasn't seen this many Scourge since Arthas lead them in the attack against Quel'thalas. (
天灾之灾
) Archmage Aethas Sunreaver suspect some sort of leader is behind the attack. (
建立魔法防御
)
Lady Liadrin
I haven't seen Scourge mustering in numbers like this since...
<Liadrin shakes her head, steeling herself.>
Never mind. There's no use dwelling in the past.
Our first priority is thinning their numbers enough that we can find out what--or who--is really behind this attack.
Slay as many of the undead as you can.
Rewards
Archmage Aethas Sunreaver
This is no mindless strike... I have a strong suspicion that some powerful entity is manipulating the Scourge.
Ever since the Helm of Domination was shattered, there has been a conceivable risk that someone else could exert their will and assume control over the undead--at least temporarily.
Rommath and I can help defend Tranquillien, but we need to break those lines.
Clear a spot for us. Let us see if we can draw out their leader.
As you help Aethas and Grand Magister Rommath set up the first of the protective wards around the town, you're interrupted by the san'layn
Vorath
. You defeat him, but he only laughs - warning that you will see him again soon - before his body disappears.
Vorath Yells: Ah, the rabble have arrived!
Archmage Aethas Sunreaver says: A san'layn, here? Take him down while we finish the ward!
Vorath says: See you soon... Ha ha hahaha...
Grand Magister Rommath says: That's not very reassuring. Quickly, to the next ward!
Twice more, you face and defeat Vorath, until all three wards are in place. At Vorath's third death, Rommath senses a surge of magic from the direction of Deatholme.
Vorath yells: I have overcome death!
Grand Magister Rommath says: There he is again! Put him down for good!
Vorath says: Do you sense the futility yet?
Archmage Aethas Sunreaver says: One more ward to go. I suspect we'll soon have company.
Archmage Aethas Sunreaver says: Here he comes!
Vorath says: You think to be rid of me so easily?
Grand Magister Rommath says: That's it! I sensed a surge of magic coming from Deatholme at the moment of his demise. Let's get back to Liadrin and report what we have found.
You return to Liadrin to find Salandria already delivering her report. By the sounds of it, Vorath is using some sort of crystal array to cheat his own death.
Lady Liadrin says: Salandria, report your findings. What do we face at Deathholme?
Salandria says: Even more Scourge than anticipated! But we managed to get close enough to look inside.
Salandria says: That san'layn Aethas mentioned had some sort of crystal array. He kept appearing within it... almost as if summoned.
Grand Magister Rommath says: That explains the surge of magic I sensed. That traitor has found a way to cheat his own death!
Aethas Sunreaver says: If we can overpower his safeguards, perhaps we can send his accursed soul to the Shadowlands for good.
Lady Liadrin says: Then that is our next move. Upstairs there is a weapon. If infused with the proper power and wielded by worthy hands, it just might change our fortunes.
Lady Liadrin
Well struck.
But for every undead we strike down, more come. We must find a way to stop them at their source.
Archmage Aethas Sunreaver
The wards are in place, and that should give us some breathing room.
But this san'layn has me worried.
If you like, you can question Liadrin about the san'layn.
What sort of creature is a san'layn?
The san'layn are vampiric Scourge--a sect of darkfallen known for their guile and dark magic, particularly the manipulation of blood and shadow.
Vorath clearly is working on his own, in the the absence of the Helm of Domination. The weaker Scourge flock to the more powerful.
If we can dispose of him, we can rout the rest.
Lore Spotlight: The San'layn
The San'layn are a type of vampiric Scourge who used to be Blood Elves in life. They were created by Arthas from fallen Sunfury - Kael'thas Sunstrider's personal army - who died in Northrend.
We killed the San'layn's leader,
鲜血女王兰娜瑟尔
, during Wrath of the Lich King, and her daughter,
鲜血公主萨安娜
, during Legion. In Battle for Azeroth, a group of San'layn, lead by
鲜血王子德利文
, made attempts to join the Horde - but were thwarted by Alliance players under the leadership of
珊蒂斯·羽月
.
Only the most powerful of weapons can kill a threat like this. Liadrin asks you to fetch the newly forged ranseur from upstairs. (
骑士的武器
)
Lady Liadrin
It's clear that this san'layn has decided to use the Scourge to empower himself somehow. We can keep taking him out, but he will just keep coming back.
We need a weapon that can break him for good.
I think I have a solution. Upstairs, you will find a newly forged ranseur. It has yet to be tempered with magic--we will need to unlock its full potential. It will be our instrument of the Light.
Vorath still seems to have eyes on your movements, and as you reach for the weapon, he sends a couple of gargoyles to attack you.
Vorath says: You think that antique will save you?
You fight off the Eyes of Vorath and return the ranseur to Liadrin.
Lady Liadrin
Good. That's exactly what we need.
Now it's time to temper this ranseur with enough power to destroy this san'layn once and for all.
The ranseur can be used to defeat Vorath, but it needs to be empowered first. Liadrin asks you and Salandria to head to the Shadowlands to ask for help. She suggests you visit the kyrian of Bastion. (
诚实的心
) And, if there's one place that understands the sort of death magic you're witnessing, it's Maldraxxus. (
不灭之志
)
Lady Liadrin
If we are to defeat Vorath, we need to amplify the power of the ranseur. But we will not cut corners or impose our will to do it. That lesson has been learned.
However, the kyrian of Bastion are masters of ushering souls to their proper places. Perhaps they would lend a fragment of their power to our cause.
Go to Bastion, and find a way to empower the ranseur.
Lady Liadrin
We're clearly dealing with someone who is using terrible magic to suspend his own death.
There's another force we know of that uses magic in this fashion. The Maldraxxi are intimately familiar with the trappings of death, and equally familiar with how to subvert it. Perhaps the one of the Houses knows of a way to help us.
Go there, and seek out power that can break this unnatural loop.
Grand Magister Rommath says: My portal can take you as far as Orgrimmar. Hurry! We have no time to waste.
Salandria: I'll meet you there... in the Shadowlands.
In Bastion, you find Salandria with a kyrian Ascended named
Vandellor
I suppose if one happened to die, this wouldn't be such a bad place to end up.
This kyrian says he will help us.
Vandellor is happy to help, providing you can show your heart is pure. (
公平之赛
)
Vandellor
A soul that refuses to cross the veil is a problem we kyrian are familiar with. I can help you.
But before I grant your weapon this power, I must know that you will not abuse it, and that your heart is true.
Let us run a race. Along the course, ring the bells. If your heart is pure, they will aid your speed. You must have at least five bells recently rung in order to complete the race.
Do not be distracted by shortcuts. And do not try to cheat to get ahead, it will not work.
Are you ready?
You race along the path, ringing kyrian bells as you go, until Salandria veers off the path slightly to ring an ominous bell - hoping it will give her an advantage. The discordant rings slow her down instead.
Salandria says: This looks like it might give us an edge!
Vandellor yells: Often what looks like a shortcut only leads to grief. Stay true to your path.
Salandria says: Stay true to my path.
Vandellor
Such a stubborn young knight. She... almost seems to dredge up a memory of long ago.
Here, accept this gift of power. I wish you victory over your foe.
You complete the race, and Vandellor agrees to grant you the power. As he does, he speaks of the feeling of familiarity Salandria has ignited in him.
Vandellor says: Strange... speaking with you, it is as if a long-forgotten memory flickers in my mind.
Salandria says: Perhaps I remind you of my mentor, Lady Liadrin? She said she was adopted like me, by a man named Vandellor.
Vandellor says: I do not recall. To better focus upon the service I perform, I let go of my mortal memories.
Vandellor says: Even so... it was a pleasure to meet you, young one. May your weapon serve you well.
Salandria says: One down! Now onto the next challenge in Maldraxxus. I'll meet you there, my friend.
Lore Spotlight: Vandellor
High Priest Vandellor was a Blood Elf in life, and Lady Liadrin's adopted guardian. A close friend of her family, Vandellor took Liadrin in after her parents were killed by Amani trolls.
Like many Blood Elves, Vandellor died during Arthas's Scourge attack on Quel'thalas. Afterwards, he was raised into undeath, and Liadrin was forced to kill him.
A vision of Vandellor when he was alive can be seen during the
Blood Elf heritage armor questline
.
Next, you meet Salandria in Maldraxxus, speaking with a weapons speacialist the Theater of Pain.
We're not in Quel'thalas anymore.
Let's get what we need as quickly as we can--we've got no time to waste!
Fightlord San
is also willing to help, providing you can prove yourself in battle. (
战无不公
)
Fightlord San
A cowardly pest that cheats his way out of the glory of death? Bah!
I have something that'll cut him down where he stands. But such an enhancement requires one who is strong enough to wield it properly.
Show me your mettle and fight! If you can prove yourself, I'll empower that ranseur of yours.
Salandria says: We can defeat him. No problem!
Fightlord San says: Heh. There will be blood.
To Salandria's surprise, Fightlord San transports you into an arena to face the gladiator
Frisson
, but you defeat the challenge anyway - earning your reward.
Fightlord San says: I never said you would fight me!
Salandria says: Anar'dalel! What a dirty trick!
Fightlord San says: Well fought! I admit, I did not expect such a battle from you.
Fightlord San says: Meet me down below and I'll empower your ranseur.
Fightlord San
Here, take the power we've honed and use it to defeat your hardest-to-kill enemies.
If that san'layn ever shows up here, well... he'll have an appropriately warm welcome.
With the ransuer fully empowered now, you can head back to Liadrin. (
重回幽魂之地
)
Such power! Surely not even Vorath can withstand the might of this weapon now.
We have what we came to the Shadowlands for. The ranseur is ready.
Let's get back to Lady Liadrin in Tranquillien. I hope we're not too late to make a difference!
Salandria says: That's it! We have what we were asked to get. Let's return to the Matriarch and report our success.
Lady Liadrin
Now that you have the empowered ranseur, it's time to show our full might on the battlefield.
Are you ready?
Now that the ransuer is empowered, you can use it to cut through the invading Scourge. (
我是圣光的利刃
)
Lady Liadrin
It's time to put all that power and training into the field.
Take the empowered ranseur, and cut a swath of destruction through the Scourge!
We'll meet you at the doorstep of Deatholme.
Lady Liadrin says: Wipe the Scourge from the Dead Scar. We will meet you at the gates of Deatholme.
You find a Thalassian Warstrider waiting for you in front of the Dead Scar. Mounted on its back, you cut a line through the Scourge until you reach the gates of Deatholme, where you find Vorath waiting for you. As he falls to the eempowered ransuer, the san'layn does not seem so sure of himself.
Vorath says: What... is this? What have you done to that weapon?!
Finally, you meet Salandria, Liadrin, and
Crusader Dawnheart
just inside the gates of Deatholme.
Lady Liadrin
He's here. We've driven the fiend back into his cage.
Now to send him to his doom.
Vorath awaits you ahead, and he will not be able to cheat death this time. (
迟来的正义
)
Lady Liadrin
You made short work of the Scourge in the Dead Scar, but we've a bigger target to face. It's time to test the mettle of your weapon against Vorath.
Let us finish this, together.
You fight Vorath together, noticing as you do how he draws power from the green crystals around him.
Once he falls, you use the empowered ranseur on his body to stop him from resurrecting. It works, he is transformed into a monstrous Amalgam of Wrath. The transformation sends out a wave of deadly energy, and only thanks to Liadrin's shield do you survive.
Lady Liadrin says: Quickly now! Use the ranseur on his body, before he comes back to life!
Lady Liadrin yells: Get behind me!
Though the fight is difficult, you manage to defeat the creature. As it dies, so too does its hold over the local Scourge.
Lady Liadrin
It's done. Already the Scourge are beginning to scatter.
We can dispose of the rest in time.
Quel'thalas is safe once more, thanks to your efforts. Liadrin invites you to a formal ceremony honoring your deeds. (
/
血骑士
)
Lady Liadrin
The power of the ranseur has been spent, but we are victorious! With Vorath defeated, perhaps the Scourge will be more easily dealt with--thanks to you.
( Meet me back in the Hall of Blood. Silvermoon is grateful for your bravery.)
Meet me back in Silvermoon. Your efforts and heroism today will not go unrecognized.
Before they leave, Liadrin takes a moment to check in with her trainees - Salandria and Dawnheart.
Lady Liadrin says: Are you two all right?
Salandria says: Still standing. And... thank you for the shield. I think I may still have a few lessons to learn.
Lady Liadrin says: One never stops learning, little phoenix. Come, let's get back to Silvermoon.
Lady Liadrin
This is not the end of the Scourge, but it is gratifying to drive the threat from our lands with such tenacity.
Silvermoon is grateful for you this day.
While you may have won the day, the incident is worrying enough to warrant informing the Ebon Blade - the Scourge of Northrend will especially need to be kept an eye on.
Lor'themar Theron says: I will inform the Ebon Blade of what transpired. If the Scourge caused such problems here, I suspect matters in Northrend may be even worse.
Lor'themar Theron says: But regardless, your efforts must be lauded. When our lands were threatened, you stood strong and held the line.
Lady Liadrin says: Know what you have our gratitude, and that you set a shining example for the future.
Lady Liadrin says: For Quel'thalas!
Lor'themar Theron says: For Quel'thalas!
Workers in Capital Cities
The following quests relate to mysterious building activity that appears to be going on in the Alliance and Horde Capital Cities of Stormwind and Orgirmmar.
Alliance
Alliance:
失踪的商品

In
暴风城
, just outside the Mage Quarter, the Dwarf
Onnesa
asks you to help her out by retrieving some missing merchandise. (
失踪的商品
)
Hmmph, those sea-brained Seabraids are off on another adventure, and I'm stuck here sifting through their goods!
Ah, maybe I'm a bit bitter, but I do wish Tawny could be a bit more brief. I don't need a novel, just some instructions is all. And on top of it all some of the merchandise has disappeared, along with one of my workers!
Would ye mind gettin' it back for me? I'm sure ye could tempt him with an exchange of a drink, or throw this at him if ye can't.
You head to the docks, where you find the thief
Millbert
about to run off with the merchandise - but you throw some
Briny Seawater
and it chases him away.
Millbert says: I was gonna bring it back!
Ah! Ye got seawater on the merchandise! Ah well, don't think the Seabraids will mind too much... long as it's intact.
Next, Onnesa asks you to round up her workers, who have been taking a long lunch. (
欢乐时光
)
Now that the merchandise is back, it's time ta get everything else sorted out.
With everything going on some of my crew decided it would be okay to disappear for some extended meal times. See if ye can find them and get them back here.
We can all celebrate AFTER the work is done.
The workers are having a good time, but throwing seawater at them convinces them to get back to work.
Worker says: Ach! I'll come back!
Worker says: Back to work!
Worker says: All right, don't get yer beard in a twist.
Great job! Now that we're all back ta work we'll make good time.
But what
is
the work that the workers are working on? That's a mystery... for now.
Not much here for ye to look at yet.
Horde
Horde:

Tha shipments from Shiri and Zen'kala keep comin' in, we can barely keep up! But one of my workers thinks I won't notice if he shaves a little off the top.
The goblins here have been workin' on a little device to help make a mess of this thief: an exploding pie.
Look for Kanyaku and throw one straight at him. I'm sure he's makin' mischief somewhere.
You catch
坎亚库
in the act, and throw the exploding pie at him, chasing him away from the goods.
Kanyaku says: Don't mind me, I just wanted a peek!
Kanyaku says: Not another pie!
Great work mon.
Next, Zaa'je asks you to round up his workers, who have been snoozing around the city. (
空心馅饼
)
Now that we have the wares back we can finish up here. But all my workers are lazin' about the city.
Find where they're hidin' and 'encourage' 'em to head back here. A little leftover pie to the face, should have 'em runnin'.
You find and wake up the workers, motivating them to get back to work.
Worker says: Don't throw pies!
Worker says: Ya don't need to throw pies at me, mon!
Worker says: I need a break.
Many thanks, everyone is back and workin' hard. <his eyes glance over to an extra pie>
But what
is
the work that the workers are working on? That's a mystery... for now.
Not much here for ye to look at yet.
Lore Spotlight: New Stables in Capital Cities
Along with these quests, new stables have been added to the Mage Quarter in Stormwind and the Valley of Strength in Orgrimmar. The reason for their addition is not yet clear.
While we certainly can't tell without more details, we can speculate on the meaning of these additions to the Capital Cities.
Since we are getting
shiny new dragon mounts in Dragonflight
, it could be tempting to think these stables are specially designed to house these mounts. However, that makes little sense - since it's been stated that dragonriding system will only be available on the Dragon Isles themselves. Besides, they don't really scream "suitable stables for Dragons" anyway.
Another very tempting explanation could have to do with the long-awaited player housing. A little house would fit quite neatly into each area that the workers are working on, and stables nearby could be a place to show off mounts - similar in style to the way that stables worked in Garrisons. Wagonloads of goods have also been added to each area, filled with items that look like they could be decorative.
Sadly, fun as that copium may be, Ion Hazzikostas has already stated
Player Housing will not be part of Dragonflight
. That said, he has also very specifically said they are hoping to do it - but that it's a
project that would "span multiple expansions"
. Who knows, perhaps these workers are building houses - they're just going to take a VERY long time.
A third possibility is that these workers are building something to do with Kul Tiras and Zandalar. The Alliance quest giver makes it clear that she's working on a building project that involves the goods and follows the instructions of the Seabraids - which puts us in mind of the
海鬃骏马
, the Kul Tiran themed mount from the Battle for Azeroth collector's edition. Its flavor tesk reads, "Horses in the Kul Tiran military are bred from an early age not to fear the sea, and revel in galloping along the shoreline and through the spray." The Horde quest giver, meanwhile, mentions an unknown character named Zen'kala. According to the
Zandali Wowpedia page
, Zen is a Zandili word that means Druid, often a prefix added to a name when they become one.
Whatever the explanation, it's always exciting to see the older zones in Azeroth getting updates!
