I got this drop in Arathi Highlands for the recipe, from the Duskwhisker Kobolts, I think that was their name. DIdn't know how much it sold for but ended uyp getting 3G for it in IF just by sending an offer to sell it. I think I made out okay.

I think no one wants it because they prefer to get a Mithril Spike (adds damage when blocking) instead of +2% to Block.

This is an incredibly rare enchant, more so than crusader. That is why this enchant is worth *ALOT*. Really it is. 2% block is an amazing amount for a warrior, don't charge cheap, and if you're selling the recipe then don't sell it for a measly 3g.

ok well let's see: magmadar has about 700k hp. everytime i block (i.e. about 10% of the time), i hit him for insane 10 dmg with the shield spike...
on the other hand, he hits for about 1k (2k and more when enraged), so 2% blocking means prolonging my life and saving the healers' mana by absorbing about 10-20 more dmg per hit in average.
if the enchanter in our guild didn't already have this little fella, i'd be smiling and dancing while paying up to 50g for it...

The above calc about averaging 10-20 damage per hit is wrong. A block doesn't absorb ALL damage, just the amount of the "block" value + a fraction of your strength. So even with the best shield, you'd be very hard pressed to block more than 100 damage when you block.
So instead of getting hit for 2k damage by Ragnaros, you get hit for 1.9k for 2 out of every 100 attacks with this enchant. So that works out to absorbing 2 damage per hit. Sucks. Shields are best used to add 2000-2500 armor and generate threat. Blocking is a very very minor bonus.
Vs the shield spike, which can really help hold aggro on the trash mobs that you might be tanking...

I just got this enchant and I was wondering how much I should charge. The mats are inexpensive, but the recipe itself was a lot. And if someone brought the mats what should I charge? Not just a measly tip right?

it is possible 2 block a whole attack....not just the block value of the shield.....get your facts straight before you post....+2% blocking is way better than +7 stam imo

If you ask me you this one should be charged 5-6 gold but not more.The enchant is really very good one especially for the lv 60 ppl when you block 60 dmg + with one block :)

For a tank, the real benefit of blocking isn't the damage reduction. It's the enabling of Revenge, which cheaply generates a very good amount of threat (more than sunder, I believe) and has a 40% of stunning the mob if you have Imp Revenge.

Come on folks do the Math! A Throium Shield Spike (even the lesser spikes) is FAR superior than either 2% blocking or +7 Stam.
Example
Take a Warrior with 10% Block (from attributes and shield).
Enemy hits our hero for 100dam, armor reduces dam to 50 (or some similar amount due to armor and buffs)
Out of 100 hits a 2% Block increase would block a max of 100dam (if the "block" rating of the shield + additional block from strength is > 50 -which it rarely is!) You have saved yourself 100damage!
Now with the Spike, out of 100 hits the shield would block 10 hits (avg). The Thoium Shield Spike (20 - 30 dam) would avg 25dam per hit for 250dam. Assuming that the Mobs armor would decrease the dam by roughly 50% you deal 125dam to enemy over time - Nice!
Additionaly if you rend armor or as other buffs stack against enemy our damage increases, not to mention all the additional threat that is generated by the spike attacks (important to MT and OT). Also if you are like my War and Block 16% of the time well the Spike is a just plain mean. Again against 99% of mobs you can't beat the spike.
BOTTOM LINE
The +7 Stam is equal to 70 hps, clearly it is the worst of the 3 (even with Tauren add) The priority is Stam (worst), Iron Spike, +2% Block, Mithril Spike, Thorium Spike (best). If you already have more than 12% block no one can argue the benefit of the Spike. One additional benefit is cost. Iron and Mithril Spikes can be bought on most servers for less than 2g (a lot of blacksmiths give iron spikes away). Thorium Spikes less than 25g. The +2% Block is usually more than 100g. Spikes are cheaper and do more damage
(BTW the main rebuttal I get is "what about guys who hit for 1000dam" - REMEMBER shield only blocks as much damage as Shield "block#"+ strength bonus. Even if it blocks you don't block 1000dam almost never more than 50dam.)

What you aren't getting is that 2% block not only blocks about 100 damage, but it mitigates critical strikes and crushing blows. And a 2% greater chance to got get crit is good stuff, far better than a stupid shieldspike or 7 stamina.

Ah, but a paladin tank could find it useful because he or she can already cause damage with every block. With the Blessing of Sanctuary, a paladin does more damage with every block than spikes do (and its holy damage). With Holy Shield, there is an additionally 30% block chance and another 140+ damge with every block. And if somebody crits on him or her, she gets ANOTHER 30% block chance. So with this, there is 32%+character block chance to deal close to 200 damage with every blow, or 62%+ after a crit. Sure the spikes would bring more aggro with every hit, but holy damage is the major source of pally aggro and so if that 2% brings me closer to block for about 200 holy damage, I would be happy to take it. Sure the constant flow of white damage is very nice (it really is), but it wouldn't cause as much threat in the long run because the paladin tank deals holy damage with every block anyway and this only increases its frequency.

First you can block a lot more than 100 dmg per hit. It goes up very quicly when you start getting tier 1+ gear. 2ndly it is possible to block the entire attack when the amount of dmg you block > the dmg taken. ie i block 102 dmg with my shield if i'm fighting a mob that does 60 dmg per hit when i shield block i will block the entire attack. What i'm wondering is if this is +2% block chance or if it increases how much i block by 2%

for a tank, this is far better than a shield spike.
a) as a tank, your job is not to do damage. if you run a 5-man instance properly, you will be second from the bottom on the damage meter (only above your main healer) every single time.
b) as a tank, your job
is
to hold aggro. most aspiring tanks don't realize this simple fact:
we don't generate nearly enough aggro by causing damage
. if you count on your dps rate to hold aggro, pretty soon the mages/warlocks/rogues around you will all be getting ground into a pulp while you stand there, slack-jawed, with mobs not even knowing that you're around. warriors are given many aggro-building abilities that all cause laughable amounts of damage (if any at all), yet keep the mob(s) we're fighting with their attention solely on us.
if you're counting on the extra 25 points of damage from a shield spike to help you maintain aggro, you really need to revisit your ideas of how aggro generation works. +2% to block keeps you alive longer (you're taking less damage) and lets you use your absolute best aggro-generating ability, Revenge, more often.

From what I understand...having the +2% is much better. I got really lucky when i got this and gave up engineering (300 skill lvl) for enchanting immediatley. Our guilds MT wanted this and now she has 26% to block...so in her case she blocks 1 out of 4 hits average, which saves healers mana and keeps MT alive longer, which is obviously better then inflickting 20-30 dmg every so often to endgame mobs/bosses that have 10k and more HP! Ravenmaw has this on the Alexstraza server...(horde)

I hope to get this on my paladin when I get a better shield. I'm sure it's real nice on warriors, but I can't wait for it for my pally cause more blocks = more holy Shield, Blessing of sanctuary, Retribution Aura procs which is alot of holy damage which is a ton more threat!
Can't wait until I get all the mats together!

Get a pally in the raid to spec sanctuary, it does just as much damage as a thorium spike and doesn't act as the enchant on the shield. +2% block is better when you have pallies, and in the expansion both factions will have pallies. So, just get the +2% block and Sanc and be happy with tanking...

Simple reason, why this is crap for a tank:
With Shield block you get +75% chance to block. Add in the 20% you will hit once you got some stuff from MC, Zul Gurub, etc., and you will have 95% most of the time (since you almost always have shield block active). Since there is a 5% miss rate for the mob, anything beyond this point is wasted.
If you have got enough hitpoints, Shield spike is better than +7 Sta. It adds good dps, depending on mob attack speed. Assuming you have that 95% chance to block and the mob hits you every 2 secs, this will be 12.5 dps against armor 0. Not bad at all.
But in the end +7 Sta does work always, no matter what kind of mob and no matter if it actually hits you in melee.
Edit: With raid buffs i've got approx. 150 Block Value at the moment. No, blocking is not for triggering revenge. It absorbs damage. Revenge is the most efficient skill a warrior has, but it is not the main reason for blocking.

Something u may not know about blocking that makes it invaluable to a warrior, and makes him/her by far the best tank in the game over druids and pallies is the shield block ability.
A high level well geared warrior will have about 25% natural shield block, so when he pops his shield block ability this will be 100%.
With talents, he will have 2 successful blocks per 5 seconds, giving a steady stream of mitigation.
The most IMPORTANT thing to note about a block is that it cannot be a critical hit or a crushing blow. So if a warrior keeps his shield block up non stop he will give his enemy maybe only 1 or 2 (if the enemy attacks very quickly) chances to crit/crushing blow during that time, which is the downfall of most tanks - the sudden spike of incoming damage throws off healing.
So 2% block can be invaluable to get u to that 25% natural block rating.
Also, a well geared warrior will have at least 20 parry and dodge, so add that together u get 40% chance to completely avoid an attack, add your shield block and u have 65% chance to dodge/parry or block the attack. This means the enemy will have only 35% chance to crit/crushing blow on any attack that is not completely blocked by charges of shield block ability, and on most bosses, it is only 3 attacks per 5 seconds, meaning u are giving yourself the better odds against the boss for that 1 attack u cant guarantee the block for.

This is just about the most expensive recipe to get hold of. Regularly sells for over 300g, and I've seen it up for 900 a couple of times, even on an old server.
Rare as hell, and unfarmable, as it's a world drop.
