A very nice addition to any MC-BWL-AQ raiding mage's setup. Huge damage, huge stats, and mana regen is also a great thing to have in those looooong boss fights, although the easy-to-get blue pvp helm can arguably shame this if you rely on criticals. Put your ZG enchant on this asap (+18 spells / +8 spell hit rating) and it will melt face.

for anyone who gets this item you are very lucky. this item i consider very powerful. And if you get this crown you will pretty much are no longer noobish you are now considerably powerful because of its +32 healing/magic increase and its +26 intellect.

Great addition to a mage's arsenal.
Drops from onyxia, as do all the other Tier2 helms.
Combined with the ZG enchantment this item can frontload a great new boost to a mage's damage.

Fairly easy to get, and definately worth the small effort.

This helm easily makes it into the top 5 helms in the game. It has a superb amount of spell damage, and had all the stats a raider could ever want (except maybe fire resistance, but for that there's arcanist crown). The 4 mana per 5 seconds is excellent for mana-dependent fights, and the resistances come in handy for MC and Naxx (shadow for MC, frost for Naxx). Plus, you get to have a big glowing ball right in the middle of your forehead. Woohoo!

Stat-wise, it is fantastic for a raiding mage. The additional 26 intellect adds a significant amount of mana to your mana pool, and the stamina adds a nice amount of health. The spirit, however, is rather low, but still adds some extra mana regeneration.

If you are looking for a helm with greater spell damage, you might want to take a look at Mish'undare, Circlet of the Mind Flayer. It is a drop off of Nefarian (the last boss of BWL), and gives you an additional +35 spell damage. It also adds 28 points to your spell critical strike rating (2% in the old system), which is also very good.

Overall, I recommend this helm to any mage.

It is nice, the whole set just flat out rocks, getting the whole set requires you having a lot of time on your hands (most likely, summer vaction and under the age of 18). With the introduction of BWL you can now actually get the full set. However, I urge people that are struggling in MC to keep your dkp for your Tier one, Arcanist helm. Cause if your struggling in MC you won't see much of BWL, successfully at least.

Im a rogue in a pretty good sized guild and definitely a respectable one (we can take down nef like hes a piece of cake). We can also do 2 ony runz with 1/2 alts on both runs - so we make it a habit so that we can get some more ony scale cloaks rolling in. On last saturday, we took her down 2x - when we looted the first one - two netherwind crowns (only one mage left in the guild that needed it - coincidentally it was my brother who was going on his first ony kill :-P) one went to nexus pile. I was happy enough that he got his - but i cant get my BF helm (been trying since back in september for my helm and haven't had even one drop in the guild). On the other run, they took her down - 2 helms dropped again - this time one was a netherwind crown and an alt ended up with it. The other thing that dropped: BF helm - but remember - i was on the first run..... another guy got his helm that hes wanted for less than a couple months..... i see my brother walking around now with his helm..... needless to say..... i cry all the time since :-(
I think i need a life outside of WOW - it is starting to make me sad that i dont get lewt - anyone else ever feel that way?

I totally agree with you, theres actually a blue in ZG which has +40 dmg - in my eyes it is better for raiding and even pvp then the NW crown..

I'm considering whether this crown is worth putting the +18dmg/1%hit enchant on. Might wait til i get the mind flayer because that is a great hat.

The difference is stats and mana regen. I love +spell damage as much as the next mage, but the int, stam, and mana regen make this a WAY better hat than Crimson Felt Hat.

I didn't really want to get the Arcanist Crown as it would be a downgrade in spell damage. Now I have the best of both worlds, good spell damage and awesome stats!

Oh and I got it on the first Onyxia kill my guild done. Two Netherwind Crowns dropped, two!

I would definitely sacrifice +9 dmg (about 6 more points of damage on my frostbolt) for 240 mana (almost enough to cast another frostbolt off which is of course greater than one frostbolt with an extra 6 damage), and the regens and resistances of Netherwind. This is much better than the Hexxer's Crown and the Crimson Felt Hat.

i had to leave for 20 minutes on our 3rd attempt, had the most mage dkp...got back, they pulled, 2 of these dropped, i didnt get any one of them because i wasnt in the lair when they pulled. i...am...mad.

I know Netherwind is better than arcanist ...but should i blow 100+ dkp on this ...we only run MC , Ony and ZG mostly no bwl...would it be worth it or just get more arcanist?

Disproportionally high drop rate on Onyxia runs (only drop location I think).

Got the crown last night (for pretty much no DKP, w00t), went straight on for my 65 mage - nice all round helm, where as before I was chopping and changing for PVP/PVE.

I want this thing real bad but I'm really dissapointed that it has the same damage on it as a crimson fel hat (1 pt lower actually), and you're going from a blue to a tier2 upgrade.

Only reason to pass up on this is if you have the Cap of the Scarlet Savant, and even then, you should pick this up for Netherwind set bonus'.

Anyway, I feel lucky to have picked mine up considering the droprate some guilds have experianced.

I don't know about anyone else but I really hate the idea of "crowns". They just look ugly to me, especially the huge part that sticks up in the back. Personally I think mages look the coolest with those wizards hats (ie Mistscape hat, Dreadmage hat). I just think they look so much cooler than the crowns and jeweled headband things.
